- A romantic love story from the last century. A wealthy merchant, Peter Ó, marries his daughter Ida to the poor but respectable journalist-cum-painter Csaba Balogh. Both young men have their reasons for doing so, Csaba's family is struggling financially, Ida's father wants to get rid of her so that his dissolute, high society lifestyle is not disturbed by the presence of the respectable girl, who was brought up in a convent. Ida thus has to choose between the convent and marriage. Their verbal agreement is that they will stay together only until he is able to repay the dowry advance, which is considered a loan, and that she is free to dispose of the full amount of the dowry, according to the father's terms. Although married to the outside world, they behave like strangers in private.
- A version of Ben Johnson's play: A swindler goes from town to town pretending to be a dying millionaire in order to attract (and dispose of) greedy "friends".
