- DirectorTony RichardsonStarsTrevor HowardVanessa RedgraveJohn GielgudIn 1854, during the Crimean War, poor planning leads to the British Light Brigade openly charging a Russian artillery position with tragic consequences.I think this is really underrated. The plot is loose and episodic but the cinematography is outstanding. There's the original use of period propoganda drawings (surely an influence on Terry Gilliam's Monty Python work), hit or miss but never dull performances and sparkling individual scenes full of the madness of power.
