My Mortal Kombat Kast

If someone were to remake the Mortal Kombat movies, these are the people I would cast.

1. Stephen Chow

Actor | Kung fu

Stephen Chow was the only boy of his family, and has grown up as a Bruce Lee fan and a martial arts addict. His career started on TV, where he presented a children show ( "430 Space Shuttle" (1983)) and started becoming popular. He got some supporting roles, after that, and won the Taiwanese Golden...

Kung Fu Hustle was an excellent movie because of its blend of action and comedy, not to mention its storyline. If Chow and Nolan were to write and direct Mortal Kombat, I think the result would be outstanding.

2. Christopher Nolan

Writer | Tenet

Best known for his cerebral, often nonlinear, storytelling, acclaimed Academy Award winner writer/director/producer Sir Christopher Nolan CBE was born in London, England. Over the course of more than 25 years of filmmaking, Nolan has gone from low-budget independent films to working on some of the ...

Nolan did an exquisite job writing for Batman: The Dark Knight. I would like to see what happens when Nolan's style is applied to the Mortal Kombat universe.

3. Woo-Ping Yuen

Stunts | Wo hu cang long

Woo-Ping Yuen was born on January 1, 1945 in Guangzhou, China. He is a director and actor, known for Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), Fearless (2006) and Kung Fu Hustle (2004).

This is the reason The Matrix and Kill Bill had such awesome fight scenes. None of the Mortal Kombat movies had good fight scenes, and that's because Woo-ping Yuen wasn't choreographing them.

4. Rain

Actor | Ssa-i-bo-geu-ji-man-gwen-chan-a

Rain was born in Seoul, South Korea on June 25, 1982 as Jung Jihoon. He was extremely shy in elementary school; in interviews he's stated that he barely spoke. He caught the desire to become a dancer at a school talent show in sixth grade; when nobody from his school stepped forward to dance, he ...

Rain did a reasonably good job in Ninja Assassin (2009). It wouldn't take much to turn him into Liu Kang, but he would definitely need to improve his acting, and lighten up a bit. Liu Kang is the light to Raizo's darkness. That shouldn't be too hard, since Rain is a pop star, after all.

5. Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa

Actor | Mortal Kombat

Cary-Hiroyuki Tagawa got his first big break as an actor when he was cast in Bernardo Bertolucci's The Last Emperor (1987). A US Army brat, he was born in Tokyo and lived in various cities while growing up. His father was in the army, stationed at Ft. Bragg (NC), Ft. Polk (LA) and Ft. Hood (TX). His...

He'll ALWAYS be Shang Tsung. Period.

6. Chris Evans

Actor | The Avengers

Christopher Robert Evans is an American actor, film producer, and director. Evans began his acting career in typical fashion: performing in school productions and community theatre.

He was born in Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Lisa (Capuano), who worked at the Concord Youth Theatre, and G. ...

Remember how arrogant and self-centered Johnny Storm is, "bordering on narcissism"? Yeah, that's Johnny Cage.

7. Jason Statham

Actor | Crank

Jason Statham was born in Shirebrook, Derbyshire, to Eileen (Yates), a dancer, and Barry Statham, a street merchant and lounge singer. He was a Diver on the British National Diving Team and finished twelfth in the World Championships in 1992. He has also been a fashion model, black market salesman ...

I'm sure Kano would be an easy role for Statham.

8. Ian Anthony Dale

Actor | The Walking Dead

Ian Anthony Dale was born on July 3, 1978 in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. He is an actor and director, known for The Walking Dead (2010), The Resident (2018) and Hawaii Five-0 (2010). He has been married to Nicole Garippo since October 8, 2016. They have two children.

This is Mortal Kombat: Legacy's Scorpion, however, I would keep the armor from the Mortal Kombat (2011) video game (not the one that is currently used in Legacy).

9. Terry Crews

Actor | Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2

Terry Crews was born in Flint, Michigan, to Patricia and Terry Crews Sr. He earned an art excellence scholarship to attend Western Michigan University and also earned a full-ride athletic scholarship to play football. Crews was an All-Conference defensive end, and was a major contributor on the ...

Michael Jai White is currently cast as Jax in Mortal Kombat: Legacy. But how about Terry Crews? I always thought that he looked the part.

10. Glenn Jacobs

Actor | See No Evil

Glenn Thomas Jacobs better known by the ring name Kane, is an American politician, actor, and professional wrestler. He has been the Republican Mayor of Knox County, Tennessee since 2018. He is signed to WWE.

He began his professional wrestling career on the independent circuit in 1992, wrestling in...

Kane as Goro. THAT'S really scary.

Shao Kahn

12. Brock Lesnar

Actor | WrestleMania

Brock Lesnar was born on July 12, 1977 in Webster, South Dakota, USA as Brock Edward Lesnar. He is an actor, known for WrestleMania XIX (2003), Summerslam (2002) and WWE Unforgiven (2002). He has been married to Rena Mero since May 6, 2006. They have two children named, Turk & Duke. Lesnar also has...

Shao Kahn

13. Chow Yun-Fat

Actor | Wo hu cang long

Chow Yun Fat is a charismatic, athletically built and energetic Asian-born film star who first came to the attention of western audiences via his roles in the high-octane/blazing guns action films of maverick HK director John Woo.

Chow was born in 1955 on the quiet island of Lamma, part of the ...

I liked Mortal Kombat (2011 video game)'s new version of Kung Lao, however, I believe the character made more sense as an older man (he is supposed to be Liu Kang's ancestor).

14. Liam Neeson

Actor | Kinsey

Liam Neeson was born on June 7, 1952 in Ballymena, Northern Ireland, to Katherine (Brown), a cook, and Bernard Neeson, a school caretaker. He was raised in a Catholic household. During his early years, Liam worked as a forklift operator for Guinness, a truck driver, an assistant architect and an ...

Christopher Lambert was an excellent Rayden because he made the character different... funny. But Mortal Kombat (1995)'s Rayden wasn't much of a mentor, and he certainly didn't do any martial arts except for the pose at the end. Liam Neeson could add some depth to the character.

15. Kevan Ohtsji

Actor | The Man in the High Castle

Born and raised in a suburb of Vancouver, Kevan discovered his love for performing from an eighth grade drama class. Known for his diversity, his talent emerged as an adolescent. " I suppose I'm the ham in my family. I figured someone had to be," jokes a jubilant Ohtsji.

Idolizing film greats such ...

Ohtsji is currently cast as Sub-Zero in Mortal Kombat: Legacy.

16. Michael J Rogers

Actor | Beyond the Black Rainbow

Michael is an award-winning Canadian actor with over 90 credits under his belt. He is well known for his portrayal of deeply layered mad man, Barry Nyle, in the critically acclaimed cult favorite, BEYOND THE BLACK RAINBOW. Beyond the Black Rainbow screened at the TRIBECA FILM FESTIVAL, and ...

Rogers is currently cast as Quan Chi in Mortal Kombat: Legacy. I think he fits the look and the character nicely.

17. Bingbing Li

Actress | Transformers: Age of Extinction

Li Bingbing (born 27 February 1973) is a Chinese actress and singer. She rose to fame with her role in Seventeen Years (1999) and since then received critical acclaim for her roles in A World Without Thieves (2004), Waiting Alone (2005), The Knot (2006), The Forbidden Kingdom (2008), The Message (...

In Forbidden Kingdom, Bingbing Li played the witch with white hair. I never liked how masculine Sindel looked in the video games (especially the new one), and Mortal Kombat: Legacy seems to be going in the same direction I am looking for.

18. Ray Park

Actor | Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace

Ray Park was born in Glasgow, Scotland, UK. He moved with his parents, younger brother and sister to London, UK, at the age of seven. Ray always wanted to be in the movies, and be like their heroes. He also began to nurture a love for martial arts from the age of seven, when his father's fondness ...

Ray Park could definitely pull off Reptile, either as the fully human-appearance one or the new lizardlike one.

19. Taboo

Soundtrack | G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra

Taboo was born on July 14, 1975 in Los Angeles, California, USA. He is an actor and composer, known for G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009), Taxi (2004) and Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle (2004). He has been married to Jaymie Dizon since July 12, 2008. They have one child.

In Street Fighter: the Legend of Chun Li, Taboo played Vega, and I thought the look would be perfect for Kabal. In fact, if you look at the Mortal Kombat (2011 video game)'s pre-immolation version of Kabal, the character kinda looks like Taboo.

20. Lee Byung-hun

Actor | Dalkomhan insaeng

Lee Byung-hun was born in 1970 in Seoul, South Korea, and grew up in a wealthy family, thanks to his father, who was a successful businessman. He never dreamed of pursuing acting until a friend of his mother's suggested it. He auditioned for the KBS television network in 1991 and was accepted. His ...

Sub-Zero's brother

21. Katheryn Winnick

Actress | Vikings

Award-winning actress, director, producer, Katheryn Winnick, is best known for starring and directing the critically acclaimed, Emmy award-winning television series "Vikings." Winnick made her directorial debut in sixth and final season which earned her "Best Director" at the 2020 WIN Awards. She ...

Mortal Kombat: Legacy's Sonya Blade is played by Jeri Ryan, who looked good as Seven-of-nine in Star Trek: Voyager, but doesn't look so great now. Katheryn Winnick is also an actual martial artist.

22. Manu Bennett

Actor | 30 Days of Night

"Shall We Begin!", the battlecry of The undefeated Gaul Crixus first bought Manu Bennett's voice & acting career to international attention. Spartacus: Gods of the Arena (2011) spoke a universal language that slowly but surely captured a massive audience. The the show lost lead actor Andy Whitfield...

Nightwolf

23. Djimon Hounsou

Actor | Blood Diamond

Djimon Hounsou was born in Cotonou, Benin, in west Africa to Albertine and Pierre Hounsou, a cook. He moved to Lyon, France, when he was 13. Hounsou has graced the catwalks of Paris and London as a popular male model. He has since left his modeling career and has worked on Gladiator (2000) by ...

I'm basing this casting on the new alternate character model for Cyrax in Mortal Kombat (2011 video game).

24. Shane Rangi

Stunts | The Wolverine

Shane Rangi was born on February 3, 1969. He is an actor, known for The Wolverine (2013), The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010) and The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014).

baraka

25. Russell Wong

Actor | Romeo Must Die

Russell Wong has earned a reputation as a sexy, charismatic leading man whose good looks are matched by his skills as an actor. The sixth of seven children, Russell Wong was born in Troy, New York; the son of restaurateur William Wong and Dutch-American artist Connie Van Yserloo. When Russell was ...

sektor

26. Angel Locsin

Actress | One More Try

Angel Locsin was born on April 23, 1985 in Bulacan, Philippines. She is an actress and director, known for One More Try (2012), Everything About Her (2016) and Darna (2005).

Please refer to Google Images for my pick for Kitana and Mileena

27. Pornchita Na Songkhla

Actress | Love You to Debt

Pornchita Na Songkhla is known for Love You to Debt (2024), Maid (2004) and Zapp (2006).

Please refer to Google Images for my pick for Jade. This Thai actress also goes by the name Benz.
