- DirectorDavid LynchStarsNaomi WattsLaura HarringJustin TherouxAfter a car wreck on Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.Dark, disturbing, depressing, intriguing, scary, and incredibly complex. This one will leave you feeling a little funny inside. Naomi Watts is phenomenal.
- DirectorSofia CoppolaStarsBill MurrayScarlett JohanssonGiovanni RibisiA faded movie star and a neglected young woman form an unlikely bond after crossing paths in Tokyo.Just love this one. I've always been attracted to movies that "feel" real and this one certainly does. Scarlett Johansen just looks phenomenal in this and Bill Murray is perfect for the role. Will never get tired of it.
- DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsJohn TurturroJohn GoodmanJudy DavisA renowned New York playwright is enticed to California to write for the movies and discovers the hellish truth of Hollywood.Dark, humorous at times, and just odd...just the way I like them. Some mysteries will never be solved, instead this one leaves the viewer with their own interpretation. Like Mulholland Drive, a very dark look at Hollywood
- DirectorSteven SoderberghStarsGeorge ClooneyBrad PittJulia RobertsDanny Ocean and his ten accomplices plan to rob three Las Vegas casinos simultaneously.Just a fun movie that never gets old. Clooney is the perfect Danny Ocean and the complex crime is perfect. Great performances, Vegas atmosphere, and a great time to be had by anyone who watches it. I defy anyone to find someone that says "I didn't like it"
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsKevin SpaceyGabriel ByrneChazz PalminteriThe sole survivor of a pier shoot-out tells the story of how a notorious criminal influenced the events that began with five criminals meeting in a seemingly random police lineup.Didn't see this until recently, but fell in love with it and had to watch it twice. Spacey is awesome and the story never backs down. Plot twists throughout.
- DirectorJoel CoenEthan CoenStarsWilliam H. MacyFrances McDormandSteve BuscemiMinnesota car salesman Jerry Lundegaard's inept crime falls apart due to his and his henchmen's bungling and the persistent police work of the quite pregnant Marge Gunderson.Arguably, the Coen Brothers best. It's so goofy and silly at times and then becomes so dark and disturbing right before your eyes. Only the Coen brothers could pull it off. Love William H Macy in this as the spineless goofy and inept lead.
- DirectorHarold RamisStarsBill MurrayAndie MacDowellChris ElliottA narcissistic, self-centered weatherman finds himself in a time loop on Groundhog Day.Perhaps no comedy stands the test of time like this one. As in I can watch it over and over and never tire of it even though I know every line. Bill Murray at his comedic peak.
- DirectorJames CameronStarsLeonardo DiCaprioKate WinsletBilly ZaneA seventeen-year-old aristocrat falls in love with a kind but poor artist aboard the luxurious, ill-fated R.M.S. Titanic.Deserves a nod if nothing else for the incredible 2nd half and the madness that ensues after the iceberg is hit. Incredible job by Cameron bringing Titanic to life and making you feel like you're really watching the real Titanic sink
- DirectorSteve GordonStarsDudley MooreLiza MinnelliJohn GielgudAlcoholic billionaire playboy Arthur Bach must marry a woman he does not love, or he will be cut off from his $750,000,000 fortune. But when Arthur falls in love with a poor waitress, he must decide if he wants to choose love or money.Dudley Moore was an absolute genius and he owns this movie. NO ONE could have pulled this one off the way he did. A very sweet and lighthearted film with a message in the end, but Dudley as the lovable drunk is perfect
- DirectorPaul Thomas AndersonStarsDaniel Day-LewisPaul DanoCiarán HindsA story of family, religion, hatred, oil and madness, focusing on a turn-of-the-century prospector in the early days of the business.Daniel Day Lewis is a genius and delivers a performance like no other. This movie might be average at best if not for Lewis, and because of his performance, I watch it over and over. Really fascinating look at the oil boom in California
- DirectorTodd PhillipsStarsRobert Downey Jr.Zach GalifianakisMichelle MonaghanHigh-strung father-to-be Peter Highman is forced to hitch a ride with aspiring actor Ethan Tremblay on a road trip in order to make it to his child's birth on time.I was surprised at how much I laughed at this one. Non-stop. Roberty Downey JR is the perfect straight man to Zack's manical, wacky, and bizarre character. So many great lines. I actually am in the minority, but much preferred this to The Hangover
- DirectorTobe HooperStarsMarilyn BurnsEdwin NealAllen DanzigerFive friends head out to rural Texas to visit the grave of a grandfather. On the way they stumble across what appears to be a deserted house, only to discover something sinister within. Something armed with a chainsaw. No one has come close to beating this one in terms of pure madness, and relentless horror. It's so sick, disturbing, and so gruesome without showing a lot of blood. What more do you want from a horror film?
- DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsEllen BurstynMax von SydowLinda BlairWhen a young girl is possessed by a mysterious entity, her mother seeks the help of two Catholic priests to save her life.Scared me out of ever using a Ouija board again. They don't make them like this anymore
- DirectorAndrew DavisStarsHarrison FordTommy Lee JonesSela WardDr. Richard Kimble, unjustly accused of murdering his wife, must find the real killer while being the target of a nationwide manhunt led by a seasoned U.S. Marshal.Back when Harrison Ford actually put in a bit of an effort, but the greatest performance is by Tommy Lee Jones. Just great entertainment from start to finish
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.Just so dark. Who would think that a movie with a character as goofy (in premise) as The Joker would be so chilling.
- DirectorMilos FormanStarsJack NicholsonLouise FletcherMichael BerrymanIn the Fall of 1963, a Korean War veteran and criminal pleads insanity and is admitted to a mental institution, where he rallies up the scared patients against the tyrannical nurse.Nicholson is fantastic of course, but I think it's all the supporting performances that make this a classic. Some future stars and Nurse Cratchett will always be a legendary character
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsMel GibsonJoaquin PhoenixRory CulkinA widowed former reverend living with his children and brother on a Pennsylvania farm finds mysterious crop circles in their fields, which suggests something more frightening to come.Think this one is very underrated. Shyamalan does a great job of creating suspense without really showing much of the meat. Gotta love the Joaquin Phoenix performance
- DirectorDavid FincherStarsMorgan FreemanBrad PittKevin SpaceyTwo detectives, a rookie and a veteran, hunt a serial killer who uses the seven deadly sins as his motives.Love the horror fils that leave you feeling so disturbed and of course nothing can compare to the ending of this one. Kevin Spacey steals the last 1/4th of the film
- DirectorPhil Alden RobinsonStarsKevin CostnerJames Earl JonesRay LiottaIowa farmer Ray Kinsella is inspired by a voice he can't ignore to pursue a dream he can hardly believe. Supported by his wife, Ray begins the quest by turning his ordinary cornfield into a place where dreams can come true.A must for every father. A must for every son. A must for every Baseball fan
- DirectorAlbert BrooksStarsAlbert BrooksMeryl StreepRip TornIn an afterlife way-station resembling a major city, the lives of the recently deceased are examined in a court-like setting.Just a sweet film that is an absolutely hilarious look at the afterlife in the eyes of Albert Brooks
- DirectorAlbert BrooksStarsAlbert BrooksDebbie ReynoldsPaul CollinsA neurotic, twice-divorced sci-fi writer moves back in with his mother to solve his personal problems.Such a funny look at the complicated relationship between a mother and her grown son that can't figure out women.
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsMarlon BrandoAl PacinoJames CaanThe aging patriarch of an organized crime dynasty transfers control of his clandestine empire to his reluctant son.Is there such thing as a list without this? 40 years later it holds up better than ever
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsAl PacinoRobert De NiroRobert DuvallThe early life and career of Vito Corleone in 1920s New York City is portrayed, while his son, Michael, expands and tightens his grip on the family crime syndicate.A sequel that rivals the original is rare, but without Brando's Don Corleone it can't be called better, though it's close
- DirectorJay RoachStarsBen StillerRobert De NiroTeri PoloMale nurse Greg Focker meets his girlfriend's parents before proposing, but her suspicious father is every date's worst nightmare. The movie that showed the world that DeNiro can do comedy. A classic film. "I have nipples, Greg. Can you milk me?"
- DirectorWes AndersonStarsGene HackmanGwyneth PaltrowAnjelica HustonThe eccentric members of a dysfunctional family reluctantly gather under the same roof for various reasons. So subtle in it's humor, particularly from Gene Hackman who is one of the funniest actors going and so underrated for his comedy
