- DirectorRamesh SippyStarsRishi KapoorKamal HaasanDimple KapadiaRaja, a fisherman is secretly in love with Mona. When wealthy Ravi comes to live with his grandmother, Kamladevi, he sees Mona and falls in love with her. Mona also reciprocates his love. Raja is devastated by this turn of events. But when Kamladevi gets to know that Ravi is seeing Mona, she puts pressure on Mona to give up Ravi and marry someone else.Nothing new in the storyline but this film shows what good direction, superb acting and a great soundtrackcan do for a film. Rishi Kapoor, Dimple Kapadia and Kamal Hassan topline the cast in this classic directed by Ramesh Sippy (the man behind classics like Sholay, Shakti, Seeta aur Geeta, Andaz and Shaan). The songs by Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar and S.P. balasubrahmanium are great. The music direction by RD Burman is one of his best and even the background score touches your hart. Satish Kaushik (as one of the villains), Shafi Inaamdar, Saeed Jaffrey (for once tolatable) , Madhur Jaffrey and Nadira are also in the cast. This is one of the best love stories from the Indian film industry. A must watch for all moviebuffs!
- DirectorPrakash MehraStarsAmitabh BachchanVinod KhannaRakhee GulzarWhen a homeless and orphaned young man finds work in the house of a wealthy man, he falls in love with the daughter of that wealthy man. But things start to change a lot thereafter.Prakash mehra left a "Devdas" project when he thought that the story was good but the setting had to be changed to make his own interpretation of the Devdas story. And thank god he did. The outcome was one of the most romantic films ever to be made in India. And every time you watch the movie you end up with tears in your eyes. All the cast is good but the movie surely belongs to THE MAN... Amitabh Bachchan. One of Amitabh's best performances ever (and that says a lot!). Vinod Khanna, Raakhee, Rekha, Amjad Khan, Sharat Saxena, Rakesh Kumar, Kadar Khan and Dr. Shreeram Lagoo co star in this great film. The music by Kalyanji Anandji and the songs by Kishore Kumar, lata Mangeshkar, Asha Bhonsle and Mohd. Rafi only make this movie even more memorable. If you want to see what acting is all about just watch this one scene of Amitabh Bachchan right before the Kishore Kumar version of "O Saathi Re Tere Bina Bhi Kya Jeena". I heard and read that the scene was a one-take scene by Amitabh. Just unbelieveable. Keep not one but a box of tissues near you when you watch this one. And the climax of the movie has often been repeated afterwards but nobody, AND I MEAN NOBODY, can do that Amitabh Bachchan magic!
- DirectorShakti SamantaStarsRajesh KhannaSharmila TagoreSujit KumarArun meets Vandana during a vacation and very soon they secretly get married. Arun is an Air Force pilot and dies in a crash, leaving pregnant Vandana heartbroken--and unable to prove that she is a married mother-to-be. As her marriage was never formalized she decides not to keep the child, and her own father dies around this time. She gives birth to her son, Suraj, and when a wealthy couple adopts him, she decides to be the nanny. All goes well until Shyam, a relative, starts to eye her, and one day he tries to molest her. Suraj stabs him, and she takes the blame and goes to jail for it. Years later when she is released from jail, the jailer takes her to his house to take care of her daughter Renu. Renu starts bonding well with Vandana and introduces her to her lover--who is none other than Suraj. The moment she sees him, she knows he is her son because he is his father's exact replica. But she decides not to reveal this truth that might embarrass Suraj. The movie that introduced Rajesh Khanna to the world. Actually Rajesh had some movies to his credit already but this was the movie that made Rajesh Khanna. And though i am not a die hard Rajesh fan myself even today you can see why people went crazy over him when you see this movie by Shakti Samantha. This clearly (in my opinion together with Anand) is the best of Rajesh Khanna ever. Sharmila Tagore easily matches Rajesh Khanna. Sometimes she even overshadows him. A daring role for such a young heroine at that time. Great songs and music by SD Burman assisted by RD Burman. The songs by Mohd. Rafi and Lata Mangeshkar were great but what gave the movie that little bit extra was a man called Kishore Kumar! Oh god how i miss a singer of his calibre... Madan Puri, Manmohan, Subhash Ghai (!!!) , Sujeet Kumar, Asit Sen, Madan Puri and Ashok Kumar co star
- DirectorKaran JoharStarsShah Rukh KhanKajolRani MukerjiDuring their college years, Anjali was in love with her best-friend Rahul, but he had eyes only for Tina. Years later, Rahul and the now-deceased Tina's eight-year-old daughter attempts to reunite her father and Anjali.Though not one of the biggest Shah Rukh Khan fans ( im more of a Salman Khan fan) this has to be one of the most romantic film ever (but hey, Salman is in the film too). A great soundtrack by Anand Millind, great songs by amongst others Kumar Sanu, Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan) this debut by Karan Johar as a director was nothing less then great. All the performances by Shah Rukh Khan, Rani Mukherjee, Anupan Kher, Jhonny Lever, Farida Jalaal, Reema Lagoo (watch her in Police Public -you wont believe its her), Archana Puransingh and all the others are good. Salman Khan steals are the scenes he is in. The young Anjali is good too. But the movie - as far as performances goes, surely belongs to Kaajol!. She is absulotely great in this movie (but yey, when is Kaajol not good? Even if the movie isn't she is!). You will end up crying every time you see this movie (in a good way). Clearly one of the best movies of the 90s!
- DirectorRamanand SagarStarsRajendra Kumar TuliSadhana ShivdasaniFeroz KhanAfter completing his medical studies, Gopal (Rajendra Kumar) takes a break and goes on holiday in Kashmir. There he meets with Usha (Sadhana) and both fall in love with each other. Back home, Gopal has a close friend, Ramesh (Feroze Khan), whose dad (Brahm Bhardwaj) wants him to marry Usha as an arranged marriage. Ramesh likes Usha and is willing to marry her. In the meantime, Gopal finds out that Ramesh is going to be married to Usha and decides not to pursue his romance with Usha. When Ramesh and Gopal's sister, Sarla (Nazima) convince Gopal that Usha only loves him, he reveals a dark secret to them, which may convince them that he is not right for Usha.Once again... if you look at the storyline this movie has nothing new to offer. two friends, rajendra Kumar and Feroz Khan (before he went cuckoo) fall in love with the same girl (Sadhana). Who will she end up with...? But the performances of all involved and especially the outstanding songs (by Mohd. rafi and Lata Mangeshkar) make this movie an evergreen movie. Rajendra "Golden Jubilee" Kumar creates his magic, Sadhana is as beautiful and graceful as ever. Even Feroz khan is bareable, even good. The supporting cast consisting of Naaz, Hari Shivdesani (father of actress Babita and greandfather of Karishma and Kareena Kapoor) are good and Mehmood is great as always. The songs...each one of them is a gem! Even more then 50 years after first released this movie gets you every time you see iot and not outdated at all! A must watch for all romantic sould
- DirectorYash ChopraStarsAnil KapoorSrideviAnupam KherYash Chopra's most cherished film with soul stirring music is a story of moments - moments of passion, of ecstasy and of life changing love. One of the most romantic movies of the 90s and along with Bombay Ka Babu (the Dev Anand - Suchitra Sen version) one of the most daring mainstream movies ever to have been made in India. the soundtrack by Shiv-Hari is quite good. Songs by lata Mangeshkar, Sudesh Bhosle, Hariharan and Suresh Wadkar are enjoyable. The climax music of "Chandni"where Sridevi is going to get married to Vinod Khanna and Rishi Kapoor falls of the stairs was used in this movie again as a full length song. Anil Kapoor finally won me over after many years with his performance in this movie. Anupam Kher, waheeda Rehman are excellent. But the movie clearly belongs to my all time favourite heroine ever... Sridevi. Her double role in this movie is just great. Nothing less then great. One flaw in the movie however... The guy who plays the role of the man the first Sridevi actually marries... Oh my God !! His "Pallo" has me in splits even today. But nonetheless nothing less then an evrgreen classic by Yash Chopra this one
- DirectorMansoor KhanStarsAamir KhanJuhi ChawlaGoga KapoorDespite knowing that their respective families are bitter enemies, Raj and Rashmi fall in love with each other and decide to elope.THE breakthrough movie for everyone! Director Mansoor Khan, actors Aamir Khan and Juhi Chawla, Alok Nath, music directors Anand- Millind. When i saw this movie for the first time when it was released the only actor i recognised was Dalip Tahil (because i had seen Jaanbaaz as well)!! Though Aamir Khan had been in a few movies as a child artist and had made a movie ( i think it was Raakh as a hero before this one) and Juki Chawla had made her debut with Karan Kapoor in Sultanat (Dharmendra, Sunny deol, Sridevi, Anita raaj and many others) this movie was THEIR movie. The cast was perfect: aamir Khan, Juhi Chawla, Raj Zutshi, dalip tahil, Alok Nath, Beena, Goga Kapoor...all of them. The direction was superb! The music by Anand Millind... Oh my god. I think this was the first movie produced by nasir Hussain in decades which did not have music by my all time favourite RD burman. But man did Anand Millind live up to the banner... " Papa Kehte Hain" (with a cameo by Aamir's then wife Reena), "Kahe Sataye Kahe Ko Rulaye", "Akele Hain Toh Kya Ghum Hain" , "Ae Mere Humsafar" and my personal favourite "Ghazab Ka Hai Din"... each one of them a gem. I think they had filmed two endings for this movie but they went for the "sad ending". And that is one of the things that makes this movie one of the evergreens. The ending is just great... and the second version of "papa Kehte hain"is magic as well. Although i believe Aamir Khan is one of the best actors to come from Bollywood i have to say the film belongs to Juhi Chawla,. She is great in this role!
- DirectorSimi GarewalStarsMithun ChakrabortySimi GarewalMarc ZuberArjun Rai lives a poor lifestyle in Bombay, and works as an auto mechanic for a living. He and wealthy Sapna are in love with each other, much to the chagrin of Sapna's dad, who wants her to get married to someone wealthy. Arjun decides to buy his own garage and borrows money from a client, Jagdish Chopra. He works hard and is able to save some money. When he goes to propose for Sapna's hand, her dad asks his watchmen to throw him out, while doing so they find out he was armed, as a result police are summoned and he is arrested. Sapna re-locates to the U.S. to stay with her aunt, who subsequently convinces her to get married to Gautam Saigal. Nine years later Arjun and Sapna are destined to meet again - this time Sapna will be a mother of a girl, Komal, and wife to Gautam; while Arjun will be an assassin, who has been hired to locate and kill Gautam at any and all cost. This movie which was directed by the actress Simmi Garewal is just one of the lesser known but extremely loveable love stories ever. The music was by Kalyanji Anandji and the songs sung by Kishore Kumar, Sadhana Sargam, Suresh Wadkar and Anuradha Paudwal are from one of the best most enjyable soundtracks of the 80s. All the performances are great- even Marc Zuber. The girl who plays the role of Anuradha Patels daughter is really good. This movie was remade in the 90s (minus the role of the daughter) as Jeet. When watching this movie hold a couple of kleenex near you because the ending will just tear you up...But there is no other way this movie could have had another ending. It's perfect. And Kishore Kumar his rendition...Great. Pradeep Kumar, Amrish Puri, Anuradha Patel, marc Zuber are very good. Simi garewal in a cameo is okay but the entire movie purely belongs to the hero of the movie (and the musc). His role is written that way that you will root for him anyway but the performance that Mithun Chakrevotry gives you is easily one of his best ever!! Cant believe this is the same Mithun Cahakrevotry who made all those Ootycrap in the 90s!
- DirectorLekh TandonStarsRajendra Kumar TuliSaira BanuRajendranath MalhotraSanjay lives a poor lifestyle in Darjeeling and makes a living as a Tourist Guide. He meets with Calcutta-based Priya Khanna, and both fall in love. When she receives word that her dad has been arrested, she returns home, and with a lot of problems does manage to secure her dad's release. She then finds out that Sanjay is also in Calcutta, both meet and plan to get married. Her dad finds out and cautions her against meeting him as this person's real identity is Tarun Kumar Saxena - the very man who had him imprisoned. Priya disbelieves her father and goes to meet Sanjay - and this is when she will find out that her dad not only told her the truth, but Tarun is already married to a woman named Rita.Good heavens...they surely dont make movies like this anymore... So sad. I can easily think of a remake of this movie with salman in the role of Rajendra Kumar. There was a black and white movie "here Comes Mr. Jordan" which was remade by Warren Beaty as "heaven Can Wait" with Julie Christie (and later another remake called "falling Down by and with Chris Rock). This movie "Jhuk Gaya Aasmaan" is actually a remake of "heaven can wait"and boy did they do verything, and i mean EVERYTHING right this time. The script, the emotions, the casting, the perfomances and especially the music of this film...perfect. Rajendra Kumar. Saira Banu. rajendra Nath, Prem Chopra, Durga Khote, Prem Chopra and david all are very good in their roles. The song sung by Mohd. Tafi are all ecergreen classics... Unse Milli Nazar, Kaha Chal Diye, Kaun Hai Joh Sapnon Mein Aaya all are gems...my favourite being the Rafi solo sachha Hai gar Pyaar mera Sanam. A movie with romance, good story, perfect performances, comedy... a real Bollywood masala love story
- DirectorKapil KapoorStarsRishi KapoorTina AmbaniPoonam DhillonThe Promis What I love most about the film was when they met again after the successful operation and Sunita was singing but he couldn't recognise her but he recognised the voice and the hand clapping.Though a remake of an american tv movie "I Promise" this time the remake of a movie is actually much and much better than the original. But look at who was involved... Rishi Kapoor, RD Burman, Kishore Kumar, Asha Bhonsle and Rose Movies (Ramesh behl). This is a very enjoyable love story which has stood the test of time. The movie stars Poonam Dhillon, Shammi Kapoor, Raakhee, Sarika, Tina Munim and others. All are equally good in the movie. All performances are god. But the movie belongs to (as far as acting goes) Rishi Kapoor! He is just great. But to be honest this movie would have not been the classic it it had not been for the unforgettable soundtrack created by RD Burman and Gulshan Bawra his lyrics. Nor would it have been as good if the songs were not magically sung by Kishore Kumar and Asha Bhonsle. All songs are good! But the evergreen "Tu Tu Hai Wohi" picturised on Rishi Kapoor, Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim is out of this world (and no remix can do justice to the song). A very special mention must go out to Jaya Bachchan. Very special attention has been given (for once) to detail. Like Poonam Dhillon and Tina Munim portray the same character before and after the accident. Their face may change but their voice remains the same. So Jaya Bachchan actually dubbed all the lines for these two actresses and the result is magical. watch this one for sure!
- DirectorRaj KanwarStarsSunny DeolKarisma KapoorSalman KhanA hitman working for a crime boss falls for a woman but she is married off to her childhood friend. Later, when the woman's and her husband's life comes under threat from the crime boss, the hitman becomes their protector.A love story with Sunny deol in the lead...? YES!! And it works BIG TIME!! This is a remake of the Simi garewal directed movie Rukshat without the plot about the kid. Sunny Deol in Mithun Chakrevotry's role, Karishma Kapoor in Anuradha Patel's role, Salman Khan in a extended version of Marc Zubers role and Tabu in the cameo role done by Simi garewal. Only Amrish Puri repeats his own role. This is more of a spiced up 90s version of the movie and boy is it great. Just when your heart goed out to Sunny Deol and you want him to get the girl (Karishma Kapoor) enters the second hero ( no Marc Zuber BUT Salman Khan) and you dont know who to root for anymore. Salman is " Prem" so you know what kind of charcter he will be. Once again a good soundtrack (not as good as Rukshat's though). This time by nadeem Sharavan. Songs were by Kumar Sanu, Alka yagnik, Vinod rathod and Sonu Nigam. This is the movie with Sunny deol's famous "Yaara O Yaara" song and his dance. But the best song according to me was the Sonu-Alka gem "Abhi saans Lene Ki Fursat nahin Hai Ke Tum Mere Baahon Mein Ho" picturised on Salman and Karishma. This song is not included on some dvd versions and is incleded in other dvd versions... Everything about this movie is very good. One of the 90s best romantic movies from India
- DirectorRamesh BehlStarsRakhee GulzarAmitabh BachchanRandhir KapoorAmit is employed as a lecturer within a university and wholeheartedly loves Suman opting to get marry to her soon. Their only short-coming in life is Amit's younger brother, Raju, who they allow too much liberty to spoil him which gets him into serious trouble prompting Amit to intervene which gets him killed. A guilt ridden Raju comes across Amit's look-alike, Shankar; thinking that his brother has returned; Raju attempts to make amend by bringing Shankar into Suman and his life without knowing that Shankar is a wanted criminal who is using this route to escape from the authorities.Ramesh Behl, Rose Movies and RD Burman are at it again. This time in the mix is THE man himself... Amitabh Bachchan and that too in a double dosis and the result is outstanding. recently (2016) a part of this movie was recreated with Shah Rukh Khan, Kaajol and Varun Dhawan in their movie "Dilwale" but as we know (courtesy of the Don franchise) Shah Rukh Khan (not reagrding what he may think about himself) is NO Amitabh Bachchan. Only Amitabh Bachchan is Amitabh Bachchan. AB has a dual role as Amit and as Shekhar. Though Shekhar may seem as aversion of Vijay the Amit character is who we love and root for! Vijayendra Ghatge who has been in many movies as a hero and side hero afterwards portrayed his role so well that i just hated the guy for years. Though he was Amitabh's friend in Satta Pe Satta and even was in the last movie by Ramesh Behl and Amitabh Bachchan "Indrajeet" as Amitabh's friend i -whenever i saw him on screen- had to think about Kasme Vaade and what het does to "Amit". Randhir Kapoor, Raakhee, Neetu Singh, Rekha, Amjad Khan, Sharat Saxena, Bhagwan and Vijayendra are all good in their roles. But it's Amitab Bachchan's show all the way. The soundtrack by RD Burman is nothing less then Genius...yes with a capitol G. Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar are at their best and Mohd. Rafi,Asha Bhonsle, Amit Kumar and Rd Burman himself are very good too. "Mille Joh Kadi Kadi Ek Zanjeer Banne", "Kal Kya Hoga Kisko Pata, Abhi Zindagi Ka Lailo Mazaa", "Aati Rahenge Baharein, Jaatee Rahenge Baharein" are evergreen classics. But the songs that truelly and i mean truelly stands out is the title song... "Kasme Vaade Nibhaenge Hum, Milte Rahenge Janam Janam" . Why dont they make songs like this anymore... Watch this one for sure...
- DirectorRajendra Kumar TuliRahul RawailStarsKumar GauravVijayata PanditDanny DenzongpaVijay is a wealthy Builder who loves Suman while Ram a civil engineer also loves Suman who were college friends,Vijay gets jealous of Ram and Suman's friendship and leaves her marrying another women while Ram marries Suman.Ram and Suman give birth to a girl Pinky while Vijay's wife passes away after giving birth to Bunty, years later Bunty and Pinky meet each other and are complete strangers and get in tiff .Bunty elopes from house when Vijay wants him to become a Builder rather then a Pilot, while Pinky elopes as her parents want her to get married they meet again but Hawaldar Sher Singh is assigned the task of arresting them.Bunty and Pinky fall in love with each other during the time and go to a remote village and live happily away from everyone but their happiness is short lived.Rajendra Kumar produced this one as the launchingpad for Kumar Gaurav as a hero. And boy was it a succes! A little bit of Bobby (later also the inspiration for other love stoeries including the classic " Qayamat Se qayamat Tak ") but this time with an additional story about the generation before the lovers. A masterstroke. The film was directed by rahul Rawail but because of the interference of Rajendra Kumar rahul Rawail was not pleased with the results and disassociated himself from the movie. So instaed of a "directed by Rahul Rawail" credit on screen you see a "a film by Rajendra Kumar" during the credits. The performances are all very good. Kumar gaurav and Vijayeta Pandit (sister of Sulakshana Pandit and Jatin-Lallit) made a good debut (not everyone can give a first performance like Aamir Khan did in QSQT)... for their first roles they were actually good. Danny Denzonpa, Aruna Irani, Dev Kumar, Bharat Kapoor and Beena all are good in supporting roles. because this being his son's debut Rajendra Kumar doesn't mind playing a kind of a grey character in the beginning which he does really well. And one of my favourite actresses from the 70s but had not been as succesful as she could have been does a really good job as the love interest of Rajendra and Danny - Vidya Sinha. BUT there is one real scenestealer in this movie. Every scene he is in he owns it and though you watch the love story of Gaurav and Pandit you actually wait for Amjad Khan to be on screen again and again. he is teriffic!. Though all the performances are good, the direction and the story hold your interested this movie would -COULD- never have been the classic it has become if it had not been for Rahul Dev Burman! Man he comes up with one gem of a song after another... "Kya Ghazab Karte Ho Ji" , " Kaisa Tera Pyaar Kaisa Gussa Hai Tera", " Yeh Ladki Zara Si Deewaani Lagti Hai" and "Dekho Maine Dekha hai yeh Ek Sapna, Phoolon Ke Shehar Mein Ho Ghar Apna" all are nothing less then genius. But according to me the best of the best in tis great soundtrack (and in two version nonetheless) is " Yaad Arahi Hai". Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhonsle shine in their songs. And just like Kishore Kumar broke through with SD Burman and Aradhana this movie marked the arrival of Amit Kumar. And he became the voice of Kumar Gaurav. This movie might be a bit dated now but it still is more enjoyable then some of the crap with is produced these days.
- DirectorSubhash GhaiStarsSanjeev KumarShammi KapoorJackie ShroffAfter his friend is imprisoned, a hitman kidnaps the daughter of the police commissioner by telling her that he is a police officer. There was a time when Subhasg Ghai actually made movies that were watchable. There ec=ven was a time when directed movies that you could watch...over and over again. hero is after "Karz" i think Subhash Ghais's best till date. He kind of launched the leading pair of this movie. Though Jackie Schroff had been a sidekick of Shakti Kapoor in Dev Anand's Swami Dada and Meenakshi Shehshadri had been apposite Manoj Kumar's brother in his Painter Babu this was the movie that launched them big time. And the story, screenplay, direction it all works. Jackie and Meenakshi do a commendable job. The music of this film by Laxmikant Pyarelal is really enjyable. "Ding Dong O Baby Sing A Song", "Neendiya Se Jagi Hai Bahaar", " Lambi Judaai" and "Tu Mera Hero Hai"are remembered even today! Lata Mangeshkar, Reshma, Manhar Udhas, Suresh wadkar and Anuradha Paudwal do justice to all the songs. Jack and Meenakshi are good in their breakthrough roles. Shammi Kapoor, Amrish Puri, Shakti Kapoor, Neeta Mehta and Bindu are all good as well. Just what the script demands/movie needs. But once again there is a real scenestealer in this movie. Everytime he appears on screen you automatically you get a big smile on your face. But to be honest that was one of his specialities because he was the scenestealer in many many films...even in Seeta aur Geeta. Sanjeev Kumar. This movie would never have been as good as this movie if it not had been for Sanjeev Kumar. And this movie really is proof that a good script without the magic of a great soundtrack and a good casting will not work. Hero was remade in 2015 with the same script as a starting point. But there was Laxmikant Pyarelal, no Lata Mangeshkar, no great songs and no Sanjeev Kumar, Shammi Kapoor, Jackie or Meenakshi... Yes the film did have Natasha in Neeta Mehta's role but that aint enough. Do yourself a favout and watch this one instead...again!!
