David Lynch films: Best to Worst
In my *very* humble opinion (I don't think I'm a true Lynch fan) Just his feature length theatrical films, not all his shorts and stuff. Some of these I've only seen once years ago so if I rewatch I may change my mind about them. I bet I'm going to get some stick for this list, but feel free to say whatever you think.

- DirectorDavid LynchStarsIsabella RosselliniKyle MacLachlanDennis HopperThe discovery of a severed human ear found in a field leads a young man on an investigation related to a beautiful, mysterious nightclub singer and a group of psychopathic criminals who have kidnapped her child.Probably the most accessable David Lynch film and definitely some of his finest work.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsAnthony HopkinsJohn HurtAnne BancroftA Victorian surgeon rescues a heavily disfigured man who is mistreated while scraping a living as a side-show freak. Behind his monstrous façade, there is revealed a person of kindness, intelligence and sophistication.Very moving.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsSheryl LeeRay WiseMädchen AmickLaura Palmer's harrowing final days are chronicled one year after the murder of Teresa Banks, a resident of Twin Peaks' neighboring town.Like a very dark remake of the TV series. Probably one of the scariest films I've seen. You really need to see the series first to appreciate it (first time I actually watched it before seeing a single epsiode)
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsKyle MacLachlanVirginia MadsenFrancesca AnnisA Duke's son leads desert warriors against the galactic emperor and his father's evil nemesis to free their desert world from the emperor's rule.I know many people consider this a bad film (not to mention the fanboy hate factor) but I found it great fun in a Flash Gordon kind of way. It's full of hilariously silly moments and dialogue. The truth is I enjoyed it much more than Lynch's more "Lynchian" work.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsRichard FarnsworthSissy SpacekJane Galloway HeitzAn old man makes a long journey by lawnmower to mend his relationship with an ill brother. Was slightly underwhelmed by this but it had some effective scenes does avoid a lot of sappy conventions that Hollywood movies with this kind of story usually have.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsNicolas CageLaura DernWillem DafoeYoung lovers Sailor and Lula run from the variety of weirdos that Lula's mom has hired to kill Sailor.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsNaomi WattsLaura HarringJustin TherouxAfter a car wreck on Mulholland Drive renders a woman amnesiac, she and a Hollywood-hopeful search for clues and answers across Los Angeles in a twisting venture beyond dreams and reality.Only seen once, didn't really understand it but it had some good bits.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsJack NanceCharlotte StewartAllen JosephHenry Spencer tries to survive his industrial environment, his angry girlfriend, and the unbearable screams of his newly born mutant child.Didn't have a clue what it was about but I suppose it's quite influential and avantgarde.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsBill PullmanPatricia ArquetteJohn RoseliusAnonymous videotapes presage a musician's murder conviction, and a gangster's girlfriend leads a mechanic astray.Bamboozling but had some excellent moments.
- DirectorDavid LynchStarsKarolina GruszkaKrzysztof MajchrzakGrace ZabriskieAs an actress begins to adopt the persona of her character in a film, her world becomes nightmarish and surreal. After the first half hour or so it plunges into total incomprehensibility and bizarreness. At least his other films had an ending that felt like an ending.
