If the "A Song of Ice and Fire" books by George R.R Martin were made into a TV series

who I would cast as the characters

1. Val Kilmer

Actor | The Doors

Val Kilmer was born in Los Angeles, California, to Gladys Swanette (Ekstadt) and Eugene Dorris Kilmer, who was a real estate developer and aerospace equipment distributor. His mother, born in Indiana, was from a Swedish family, and his father was from Texas. Val studied at Hollywood's ...

as Lord Eddard Stark. Val can pull off the nobility look pretty easily but he also has a rough edge reflective of Stark's history as a soldier. Easy choice.

2. Ashley Tisdale

Actress | Phineas and Ferb

Ashley Michelle Tisdale (born July 2, 1985) is an American actress, singer, and producer. During her childhood, she appeared in more than 100 TV advertisements and had roles in theatre and television shows. In 2004, she was cast as Maddie Fitzpatrick in Disney Channel's The Suite Life of Zack & ...

as Daenerys Targaryen. When I was first introduced to the character I hardly envisioned anyone as fitting as Ashley. I have yet to see her in a soft passive role, which is how Dany starts, but if High School Musical and The Suite Life of Zack & Cody is anything to go by, there is a fire in her to pull of the Khaleesi with perfection.

3. Oded Fehr

Actor | The Mummy Returns

Oded Fehr was born on November 23, 1970 in Tel Aviv, Israel. He is an actor, known for The Mummy Returns (2001), The Mummy (1999) and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo (1999). He has been married to Rhonda Tollefson since December 22, 2000. They have three children.

as Khal Drogo. Ever since kicking ass in The Mummy I've always suspected there would be another role suited for Oded to kick more ass. He would own this role and take names in the process as the Dothraki warlord.

4. Verne Troyer

Actor | The Love Guru

With a decades-long career as an actor and stuntman, Verne Troyer was best known for playing "Mini-Me," Dr. Evil's smaller and more concentrated pure evil protégé, in the hit comedies Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me (1999) and Austin Powers in Goldmember (2002), and for his role in Harry ...

as Tyrion Lannister. Verne is one of the most popular types of those people, and I think he can pull off the wit and cunning of one of my favourite characters from the series.

5. Drew Barrymore

Producer | Charlie's Angels

Since melting audiences' hearts at the tender age of six - in Steven Spielberg's beloved sci-fi blockbuster, E.T. (1982) - Drew Barrymore has emerged as one of the most endearing and singularly talented actresses of her generation. Born in Culver City, California to actors John Drew Barrymore and ...

as Cersei Lannister. Let's be honest. Cersei is a huuuge bitch, but there is all that emotion that underlies her manipulative and deceitful ways. Drew was my first choice, Reese Witherspoon a close second.

6. Haley Joel Osment

Actor | The Sixth Sense

Haley Joel Osment is an American actor who has proven himself as one of the best young actors of his generation. He is the first millennial male to have received an Academy Award nomination for acting.

Osment was born in Los Angeles, California, to Theresa (Seifert), a teacher, and actor Eugene ...

as Joffrey Baratheon. I won't spoil the secret, but HJO would definitely pull off being Drew Barrymore's son. Although he may be a little older than his character, HJO's boyish good looks that he's retained from sixth sense would serve him well.

7. Susan Sarandon

Actress | Thelma & Louise

It was after the 1968 Democratic convention and there was a casting call for a film with several roles for the kind of young people who had disrupted the convention. Two recent graduates of Catholic University in Washington DC, went to the audition in New York for Joe (1970). Chris Sarandon, who ...

as Catelyn Tully. As the Stark family's wife and mother, Susan fits that family-first mould since she's so old and has a family herself that she loves. There is also that Tully heritage that she so nobly represents which Susan could pull off like nothing.

8. Jonathan Taylor Thomas

Actor | The Lion King

Jonathan Taylor Thomas was born Jonathan Taylor Weiss on September 8, 1981 in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, to Claudine (Gonsalves) and Stephen Weiss. He has an older brother, Joel, and has Pennsylvania Dutch (German) and Portuguese ancestry. Growing up, he liked the music group Boyz II Men, and his ...

as Robb Stark. Been a while since he was on the scene, but what a way it would be for him to get back on the horse. Lighten up his complexion and I think he could do well as the proud Stark son, and eventually, THE KING OF THE NORTH! Him and Val also look eerily similar... hmmm

9. Abigail Breslin

Actress | Little Miss Sunshine

Academy Award-nominated actress Abigail Breslin is one of the most sought-after actors of her generation. Her unique and charismatic talents have contributed to her versatile roles in both comedy and drama.

Recently, Breslin headlined the first season of the horror-comedy series, Scream Queens (2015)...

as Sansa Stark. The naiveté of Sansa annoys throughout the books and I think Abigail is young enough to know how that goes (in New Years Eve she shows it well) but she also has the experience to show some maturity for this role.

10. Sean Bean

Actor | The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring

Sean Bean's career since the eighties spans theatre, radio, television and movies. Bean was born in Handsworth, Sheffield, South Yorkshire, to Rita (Tuckwood) and Brian Bean. He worked for his father's welding firm before he decided to become an actor. He attended RADA in London and appeared in a ...

as Jaime Lannister. Already well-versed in playing characters from epics, Sean Bean's Jaime could be the wild card for the show. Bean does villainy well too.

11. Jackson Rathbone

Actor | Twilight

Internationally recognized for his breakout role as Jasper Hale in The Twilight Saga (2008-2012) Jackson Rathbone was born to American parents living in the Republic of Singapore. Growing up internationally, Jackson spent his adolescent years living in Tananger, Norway and Midland, Texas. After ...

as Viserys Targaryen. Such a slimy and arrogant piece of crap. Jackson hasn't much of a resume, but this could be a break-out role for him if portrayed how I imagined.

12. David Caruso

Actor | First Blood

His low-keyed intensity, deep-voiced somberness, pale skin, puffy-eyed baby face and crop of carrot-red hair are all obvious and intriguing trademarks of TV star David Caruso. A hugely popular item in the 1990s as a result of a smash crime series, he got way too caught up in all the hoopla ...

as Jorah Mormont. Already popular in TV through CSI: Miami, this would be a welcome switch-up that I think Caruso could work well with. The worldly knowledge of Jorah could be seen through David's eyes.

13. Vinnie Jones

Actor | Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels

Vincent Peter Jones was born on January 5, 1965 in Watford, England. He first came to public notice as a professional footballer, playing in the English Football League. Noted as one of football's hard men, he leaped to fame when a photographer, at a match, snapped him "marking" Newcastle United's ...

as Sandor Clegane. A renowned hard man, Jones has the build and look to provoke the dark nature of The Hound.

14. Mark Calaway

Actor | Suburban Commando

Born on March 24, 1965. Best known as "The Undertaker" from World Wrestling Entertainment. He first came to the WWF in 1990 as Ted DiBiase's mystery partner at The Survivor Series (1990). At first, he was a heel, but later turned face, around WrestleMania VIII (1992). He has held the WWF World ...

as Gregor Clegane. The Undertaker as The Mountain is hand to glove.

15. Meat Loaf

Actor | The Rocky Horror Picture Show

Meat Loaf was born Marvin Lee Aday in Dallas, Texas, to Wilma Artie (Hukel), a teacher and gospel singer, and Orvis Wesley Aday, a police officer. He moved to Los Angeles in 1967 to play in local bands. In 1970, he moved to New York and appeared in the Broadway musicals "Hair", "Rockabye Hamlet" ...

as Robert Baratheon. Under-rated actor because people can't see past his amazing power ballads, Meat Loaf can be gruff but also humorous enough to play Robert. He also has a build fit for a gluttonous pig of a king.

16. John C. McGinley

Actor | Scrubs

John C. McGinley's path to stardom is a story that reads like a classic Hollywood script. While an understudy in New York in the Circle-In-The-Square production of John Patrick Shanley's "Danny and the Deep Blue Sea," he was spotted by director Oliver Stone and soon after was cast in "Platoon," the...

as Stannis Baratheon. Stannis is described as being skilled in the art of war, something John C. McGinley is somewhat familiar with after being in Platoon. There's also a directness in Stannis seen in McGinley's Mr. Cox from Scrubs.

17. Jeremy Piven

Actor | Serendipity

Jeremy Piven was born on July 26, 1965 in Manhattan, New York City, New York, USA. He is an actor and producer, known for Serendipity (2001), Entourage (2004) and Grosse Pointe Blank (1997).

as Renly Baratheon. No offence meant but Piven has a sunny disposition about him that can carry onto this role.

18. Kyle Gass

Actor | Tenacious D in The Pick of Destiny

Kyle Gass was born on July 14, 1960 in Walnut Creek, California, USA. He is an actor and writer, known for Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny (2006), Elf (2003) and Tenacious D (1997).

as Varys. Having already played a eunuch in Year One (hilarious) Kyle Gass could come into this role ready to go. Being the Master of Whisperers is a dimension he could also take on as he is back up vocals for Tenacious D where he is barely audible in their songs.

19. Spencer Breslin

Actor | The Cat in the Hat

Spencer Breslin was born on May 18, 1992 in New York City, New York, USA. He is an actor and producer, known for The Cat in the Hat (2003), The Kid (2000) and The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause (2006).

as Samwell Tarly. Samwell is described as being fat and pale.

20. Jim True-Frost

Actor | The Hudsucker Proxy

True-Frost graduated from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois. He has been an ensemble member of the Steppenwolf Theatre Company in Chicago since 1989. Prior to that, he was a member of Remains Theater, co-founded by actor William L. Petersen (To Live and Die in L.A., CSI: Crime Scene ...

as Lord Petyr Baelish. Jim is from The Wire, a well-known TV series held in high regard. By having him on board it could draw a following from that show. He also looks secretive enough to be Littlefinger.

21. MattyB

Actor | MattyB: Moment

MattyB first became interested in hip hop music at the age of five. He said that he was drawn to the beats and right away wanted to take dance lessons! When his cousin Mars (Charles Marshall Manning), a 19-year-old rapper, moved in with his family, he listened to Mars' music and rapped his lyrics ...

as Rickon Stark. If you are familiar with this young talent you would say nothing but "Chyeah!" to this choice, as would I.

22. John Candy

Actor | Planes, Trains & Automobiles

Candy was one of Canada's greatest and funniest character actors. His well-known role as the big hearted buffoon earned him classics in Uncle Buck (1989) and Planes, Trains & Automobiles (1987). His career has handed him some dry spells but Candy always rebounded.

Born in Newmarket, Ontario, in ...

as Hodor. Okay so this may be the most difficult casting choice as he has already departed (RIP) but I feel he'd be so perfect and riveting for this part because, like Hodor, he is known for his warmth and bigness. I think with modern technologies able to manipulate old footage [This is exampled in Sky Captain with the use of Laurence Olivier] there'd be a way to have scenes work, especially because Hodor will barely have any screen time with such a minor part played in the book. It'd be simple but effective green screen work that maybe WETA? could be involved in, and Hey Presto! our old mate John Candy is back as if he never left us in the 90s. I imagine the reception being akin to fans seeing the ghost of Tupac at Coachella
