- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleHeath LedgerAaron EckhartWhen the menace known as the Joker wreaks havoc and chaos on the people of Gotham, Batman must accept one of the greatest psychological and physical tests of his ability to fight injustice.Rated #1 by fans and critics a like. Everyone who has seen it will remember Heath Ledger's greatest and last performance. The best of the Christopher Nolan trilogy this Caped Crusader comes in first for exceptional cast, notable shots/lighting, and soundtrack that keeps you on the edge of your seat.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsHenry CavillAmy AdamsMichael ShannonAn alien child is evacuated from his dying world and sent to Earth to live among humans. His peace is threatened when other survivors of his home planet invade Earth. This is by far the most amazing portrayal of a large scale super hero movie. The enormous amount of cg destruction alone was breathtakingly real. With harsh, yet real writing and a solid cast of actors. Man of Steel brings superman out of the 90's and back into the lime-light.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneRhys IfansAfter Peter Parker is bitten by a genetically altered spider, he gains newfound, spider-like powers and ventures out to save the city from the machinations of a mysterious reptilian foe.Certainly the most prestigious of any of the previous "Spider-Men" movies, this comic book reboot is one of the finer points of the Marvel Cinematic universe. With dynamic action, cg, acting, and lighting this is a top notch film that's hard to beat.
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity. This unprecedented event marks a new age in the hero genre. Uniting four big box office hitters into one giant movie, this is to be Joss Whedon's career making masterpiece and possibly a classic movie moment in time.
- DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe.Arguably one of the best movies marvel has put since Avengers. This movie gives Comic nerds everywhere the depth of lore they've been waiting for while still maintaining the action and comedy necessary for a family film. The CGI team was top notch coming in and the results speak for themselves.
- DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier.I'm not sure why it's called Winter Soldier, when the Winter Soldier only has 30 minutes of screen time. Wonderfully written, acted, & directed. I don't like the lack of backstory, but it was a really good movie.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleTom HardyAnne HathawayEight years after the Joker's reign of chaos, Batman is coerced out of exile with the assistance of the mysterious Selina Kyle in order to defend Gotham City from the vicious guerrilla terrorist Bane.Finishing off the Nolan Trilogy this part 3 award-winning film takes a hard fought 6th place. With it's great direction and powerful story, it lacks in female acting(catwoman/talia) and a main villain(Bain), although the addition of Talia was good, it was too little too late.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil. This icon of a film was what brought Iron man out of the comics and into being a house-hold name. Setting up the Marvel Cinematic universe this solid caste of players set up a dynamic film. With solid acting from Robert Downey Jr. and Gwenneth Paltrow, it lacks in some areas. Like an apparently replaceable co-actor and a semi-forgettable villain. After watching the movie a couple of times I couldn't tell you the main villain's name...
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartIan McKellenHugh JackmanThe X-Men send Wolverine to the past in a desperate effort to change history and prevent an event that results in doom for both humans and mutants. This movie is the best X-men film that Marvel has put out yet. That being said the X-men franchise in general has been a major disappointment compared to the other Marvel Cinematics. Hopefully we will finally see X-men joining the rest of the Marvel Universe, but this still wasn't enough to redeem itself compared to the rest of the Marvel Cinematics.
- DirectorLouis LeterrierStarsEdward NortonLiv TylerTim RothBruce Banner, a scientist on the run from the U.S. Government, must find a cure for the monster he turns into whenever he loses his temper.By far the most action packed Hulk movie we've seen this Pre-Avengers warm-up movie makes its move big, Hulk Style. Taking a more comic-true approach this Hulk is a big hitter in terms of acting, lighting, and cg animation. [RIP Edward Norton]
- DirectorKevin MunroeStarsPatrick StewartMakoChris EvansWhen the world is threatened by an ancient evil, the Ninja Turtles must reunite and overcome their faults in order to stand against it.For those of you thinking this is just a kids movie... well you'd be wrong. This comic book classic finally finds the action sequences it deserves; leaving fans and critics satisfied. This CG re-boot builds on classic TMNT film lore giving a tasteful look at each turtles story, personality, and fighting style.
- DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city. The first bit of flair we have seen from DC Comics into the film franchise in some time. Setting the dark feel of the Nolan trilogy, this film is a masterpiece that is worthy to stand in any film collection.
- DirectorPete TravisStarsKarl UrbanOlivia ThirlbyLena HeadeyIn a violent, futuristic city where the police have the authority to act as judge, jury and executioner, a cop teams with a trainee to take down a gang that deals the reality-altering drug, SLO-MO.This gory, cult-comic book receives a great tribute. With a fast-paced, adult content film that highlights great shots and camera movements. The only thing holding this film down is it's lack of writing and fan base.
- DirectorMarc WebbStarsAndrew GarfieldEmma StoneJamie FoxxWhen New York is put under siege by Oscorp, it is up to Spider-Man to save the city he swore to protect as well as his loved ones.
- DirectorAlan TaylorStarsChris HemsworthNatalie PortmanTom HiddlestonWhen the Dark Elves attempt to plunge the universe into darkness, Thor must embark on a perilous and personal journey that will reunite him with doctor Jane Foster.
- DirectorShane BlackStarsRobert Downey Jr.Guy PearceGwyneth PaltrowWhen Tony Stark's world is torn apart by a formidable terrorist called the Mandarin, he starts an odyssey of rebuilding and retribution. From a fan that doesn't know the comic book/lore this may seem like Marvel's biggest hit yet. The villain's were amazingly disappointing, with A.I.M.s lack of yellow hazmat suits and don't even get me started on "The Mandarin". The cinematics were top notch but the story jumped surprisingly quick without developing any characters. The writers pretty much assume you've either seen Iron man, or Avengers at some point so they give you zero background, and almost no focus on any character but Tony (Besides the romance with Pepper and the 5 min devoted to Happy Hogan). Dr. Maya had pretty much two scenes and then got shot. Where was the character development?
- DirectorJames MangoldStarsHugh JackmanWill Yun LeeTao OkamotoWolverine comes to Japan to meet an old friend whose life he saved years ago, and gets embroiled in a conspiracy involving yakuza and mutants. The part of Jean Grey is badly overstated with a poor actress and overemphasis. Hugh Jackman himself, could probably have used a stunt double as he looks bad in some action scene, especially the hopping from roof to roof chasing down the limo. The CG is MUCH better than Origins but there was room for improvement. The action and story have been the best so far of any other Wolverine movie. Things could be looking up or above average for the X-men series.
- DirectorSteve BarronStarsJudith HoagElias KoteasJosh PaisFour teenage mutant ninja turtles emerge from the shadows to protect New York City from a gang of criminal ninjas.
- DirectorJoe JohnstonStarsChris EvansHugo WeavingSamuel L. JacksonSteve Rogers, a rejected military soldier, transforms into Captain America after taking a dose of a "Super-Soldier serum". But being Captain America comes at a price as he attempts to take down a warmonger and a terrorist organization. The stars stripes come to life in this prequel to the Avengers, Chris Evans leads a solid role with a forgettable cast of misfits. Besides the appearance of Tommy Lee Jones this movie is a great start in almost every area but acting.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsJames McAvoyMichael FassbenderJennifer LawrenceIn the 1960s, superpowered humans Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr work together to find others like them, but Erik's vengeful pursuit of an ambitious mutant who ruined his life causes a schism to divide them. This prequel to the X-men trilogy leaves viewers with hope of what could be a common trend for the mutant generation. The filmography is solid but with the common plot holes and timeline issues between this movie and the trilogy.
- DirectorJonathan HensleighStarsThomas JaneJohn TravoltaSamantha MathisAn undercover FBI agent becomes a vigilante and sets out to unleash his wrath upon the corrupt businessman who slaughtered his entire family at a reunion.Quite far one of the most over looked superhero movies. The Punisher with it's high noon western feel comes in just below the top 10. With great moments, but poor acting this movie is a comic book fans wet dream.
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsMichael KeatonJack NicholsonKim BasingerThe Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker.Tim Burton's dark persona fit's perfectly into the Batman realm. A masterpiece in time this first movie in the series sets a dramatically dark tone for Batman. While still a great movie, it suffers from costume meltdown. With the all black leather bat-suit Batman hardly moves let alone stalks the night. Action scenes and intensity are just underplayed. It was a limited movie to say the least, time period not being the issue.
- DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonNicolas CageChloë Grace MoretzDave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a superhero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.This comedic and juvenile hero film does what it does somewhat well. Being that it has a believable lead actor, somewhat believable plot, and a good team of directors/producers. Of course add in Nicholas Cage, the notoriously stoic actor, juvenile/unnecessary humor and the lack of villains, making it only worthy of top 20 if that.
- DirectorStephen NorringtonStarsWesley SnipesStephen DorffKris KristoffersonA half-vampire, half-mortal man becomes a protector of the mortal race, while slaying evil vampires. This cult comic comes to life with Wesley Snipes performance. The costume design for Blade is good while everyone else is sub-par. The acting is fairly cheesy and the camera/lighting is bad, but the unique take on this classic comic is inspiring and well done.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsRon PerlmanSelma BlairDoug JonesA prince of the mythical world starts a rebellion against humanity in order to rule the Earth. Hellboy and his team must fight to stop him from locating the all-powerful Golden Army.Del Toro Strikes again, with an even better plot line! The famed director takes everything good about the first movie and improves adding a more believable villain and a more heinous story. The story does a greater job of drawing the viewer in emotionally to connect with both the heroes and the villains.
- DirectorTim BurtonStarsMichael KeatonDanny DeVitoMichelle PfeifferWhile Batman deals with a deformed man calling himself the Penguin wreaking havoc across Gotham with the help of a cruel businessman, a female employee of the latter becomes the Catwoman with her own vendetta.Tim Burton's sequel in the batman series keeps it's same dark persona as Michael Keaton takes two. This film is an echo of the first keeping similar camera, lighting and direction. But what made the first movie great was it's unique take. This stoic man in black didn't keep up for some film fans.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsBrandon RouthKevin SpaceyKate BosworthSuperman returns to Earth after spending five years in space examining his homeworld Krypton. But he finds things have changed while he was gone, and he must once again prove himself important to the world. With the HIGHLY debated story of Superman's illegitimate son... This movie still rose fairly well among fans. With solid areas in lighting, sound, special effects and acting this movie gets on my list.
- DirectorKenneth BranaghStarsChris HemsworthAnthony HopkinsNatalie PortmanThe powerful but arrogant god Thor is cast out of Asgard to live amongst humans in Midgard (Earth), where he soon becomes one of their finest defenders. This exciting CG film, lets fans down in terms of action, drama, and story. This was probably the lowest ranking film in the Marvel Cinematic universes phase on movies.
- DirectorPeter BergStarsWill SmithCharlize TheronJason BatemanHancock is a superhero whose ill-considered behavior regularly causes damage in the millions. He changes when the person he saves helps him improve his public image. This real-life super of a man misses the mark. With a great concept and and good CG animation this film came down to lack of plot and poor writing. What could have been a success became a hiccup in Will Smith's career.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsRon PerlmanDoug JonesSelma BlairA demon raised from infancy after being conjured by and rescued from the Nazis, grows up to become a defender against the forces of darkness.Hellboy goes traditional! Well sort of. This Dark Horse comic goes a little more traditional with use of costumed characters whenever possible (hell hound, Red and Blue, etc.) instead of CG. Film and camera are average but solid and acting is decent for a movie without big namer's.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstWillem DafoeAfter being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, a shy teenager gains spider-like abilities that he uses to fight injustice as a masked superhero and face a vengeful enemy. The first of the Spider-man series, the original idea of this movie is enough to break into the hearts of fans everywhere. Although it was a favorite, the poor acting by our hero and villain is a sour note in Spider-man's film history. The only solid acting in this movie is from Aunt Mae as our inspirational figure.
- DirectorGavin HoodStarsHugh JackmanLiev SchreiberRyan ReynoldsThe early years of James Logan, featuring his rivalry with his brother Victor Creed, his service in the special forces team Weapon X, and his experimentation into the metal-lined mutant Wolverine. With all the making of a real box office hit this movie just fell short. Besides disappointing Deadpool fans everywhere (with Ryan Reynold's portrayal), this movie creates plot potholes for the whole X-Men series. This film is cluttered with high amounts of quick unfinished CG. The acting from our two lead roles makes up for some but not all of it's downfalls downfalls.
- DirectorRichard LesterStarsGene HackmanChristopher ReeveMargot KidderSuperman agrees to sacrifice his powers to start a relationship with Lois Lane, unaware that three Kryptonian criminals he inadvertently released are conquering Earth. This classic Christopher Reeves adaptation is the zenith of his career in acting. With decent action, story and special effects, this movie is a monument to him as a beloved actor. R.I.P. Superman
- DirectorMichael BayStarsShia LaBeoufMegan FoxJosh DuhamelAn ancient struggle between two Cybertronian races, the heroic Autobots and the evil Decepticons, comes to Earth, with a clue to the ultimate power held by a teenager. This starter film for the robotic series, takes a grand leap into theaters everywhere. CG animation is great and makes up for the lack of acting. The voice over is decent, but the camera shots and lighting needs work. Most of this series is spent in flashes of heavy metal violence where the viewer can't tell what's happening.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsEric BanaJennifer ConnellySam ElliottBruce Banner, a genetics researcher with a tragic past, suffers an accident that causes him to transform into a raging green monster when he gets angry. This take on green rage monster borrows story from here and there. Following more of the original hulk comics and the Incredible Hulk TV Show. This artistic take on Hulk bred distaste in comic book fans everywhere. The CG was decent but the acting and story were low-notes in the movie.
- DirectorMartin CampbellStarsRyan ReynoldsBlake LivelyPeter SarsgaardReckless test pilot Hal Jordan is granted an alien ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers that inducts him into an intergalactic police force, the Green Lantern Corps. This sad epic of a story leaves fans going "what the heck?" Even Ryan Reynolds himself was disappointed in the way this film turned out. With notable shout outs to the green lantern corps, it is a good try for the first Green Lantern movie in history.
- DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Mickey RourkeGwyneth PaltrowWith the world now aware of his identity as Iron Man, Tony Stark must contend with both his declining health and a vengeful mad man with ties to his father's legacy. After a box office hitter like Iron man this series struggled to rake in a good impression with it's second movie. The nearly overlooked villain brings in a low blow as both bad writing and acting. The plot of the movie makes very few ripples in terms of climax and rising actions. The CG is good and the lead actor great but a film needs more than that.
- DirectorZack SnyderStarsJackie Earle HaleyPatrick WilsonCarla GuginoIn a version of 1985 where superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends active vigilante Rorschach on the trail of a conspiracy that will change the course of history. This highly stylized film starts off on a great note! Only to introduce you to a group of misfit want-to-be superheroes. Looking past the bad character development and the zero back story, this film suffers from horrible plot holes and in general a bad story. I couldn't tell you what happened. Lighting and camera work are sound, but not everything is worth putting on the big screen if you can't do it well.
- DirectorMichel GondryStarsSeth RogenJay ChouChristoph WaltzFollowing the death of his father, Britt Reid, heir to his father's large company, teams up with his late dad's assistant Kato to become a masked crime fighting team.A quick wit and slap-stick humor carry this movie to the very end. With a horrid actor and decent co-part, this movie rides the obvious through it's "storyline" to the very end. The camera work is crud and the lighting is blah. It was however a nice throwback that isn't worth the theatre priced seats and the overpriced snacks.
- DirectorMark Steven JohnsonStarsNicolas CageEva MendesSam ElliottWhen motorcycle rider Johnny Blaze sells his soul to the Devil to save his father's life, he is transformed into the Ghost Rider, the Devil's own bounty hunter, and is sent to hunt down sinners.Hell's Rider roars into theaters with one of the worst actors money can buy. This potential of film begins and ends with Nicholas Cage. The CG is essential to this movie bringing everything to life in a fiery way. The writing and story are classic Ghost Rider comics and are well fitting to the film.
- DirectorTim StoryStarsIoan GruffuddMichael ChiklisChris EvansA group of astronauts gain superpowers after a cosmic radiation exposure and must use them to oppose the plans of their enemy, Doctor Victor Von Doom.Although fairly accurate the personalities of the four didn't seem write. The writing was average and so was the acting. Dr. Doom was the only upside and you couldn't even see his face most of the movie...
- DirectorMark Steven JohnsonStarsBen AffleckJennifer GarnerColin FarrellA man blinded by toxic waste which also enhanced his remaining senses fights crime as an acrobatic martial arts superhero. With a D-list acting crew this film hits it big for fans and only fans. With the first ever daredevil movie, it ranks at the bottom of our list for bad acting lighting, writing and directing. This movie had a great costume and a dark feel and those are it's only upsides.
- DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanIan McKellenIn a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.Between cheesy one-liner writing that makes comic book fans vomit, and "muppet-like" costumes; this movie suffers from a bad disease, existence. The first X-men movie is a leap of faith that ends in a fiery pit... of despair.
- DirectorRob BowmanStarsJennifer GarnerGoran VisnjicWill Yun LeeElektra the warrior survives a near-death experience, becomes an assassin-for-hire, and tries to protect her two latest targets, a single father and his young daughter, from a group of supernatural assassins.A spin off film from Daredevil, this movie took everything that was interesting about Daredevil and did the opposite. A dramatic and serious tone was the worst way to go here and the actress just didn't fit Elektra(even the hair color is wrong). With bad acting, writing, and directing this is a very low score for a movie.
- DirectorBrett RatnerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanHalle BerryThe human government develops a cure for mutations, and Jean Grey becomes a darker uncontrollable persona called the Phoenix who allies with Magneto, causing escalation into an all-out battle for the X-Men.
