- DirectorLuis Alberto LamataStarsJuvel VielmaDaniela AlvaradoGledys IbarraTAITA BOVES chronicles a thirst for revenge that devastated a country. It tells the true story of Jose Tomás Boves, a cruel man who became a legend during the Venezuelan War of Independence, the most violent in the Americas. He went from seafarer to pirate, horse smuggler to prosperous merchant, prisoner to military chief. Spanish by birth, he spearheaded a grass roots troop of slaves, mulattoes, Indians and mestizos that crushed Simón Bolívar and his patriot army. Respectfully referred to as "Taita" by them, he fought for the underprivileged and the poorest of the poor, and curtailed three centuries of order in this colonial region. This film is about his passions and power, his loves and misadventures, and a bloody saga that rocked Venezuela.
- DirectorDiego RísquezStarsBeatriz ValdésMariano ÁlvarezErich WildpretIn 1856, a whaler arrives in Paita, Peru; on board is Herman Melville, who is astonished to learn that Manuela Sáenz, for eight years the lover of Simón Bolívar, is still alive. He calls on her, and although she will not talk to him about her life, his visit sends her to her chest of Bolívar's letters. As she reads them, the sepia-toned present gives way to flashbacks in color: she meets 'the Liberator' in 1822, becomes his lover, and also becomes a colonel in his military movement to realize the 'Gran Colombia', one nation across South America. As plague (brought by the ship) closes in on Manuela's household, so does her tempestuous story move toward Bolívar's betrayal and death.
- DirectorShams BhanjiStarsRicha AdhiaRenaida ArbogastRichard BezuidenhoutShot on location in Zanzibar, the story revolves around Zamora, a well traveled Zanzibar painter/womanizer on a voyage of self discovery. Filled with romantic connotations about the spice island, he meets a beautiful Zanzibar / Omani woman who mesmerizes and influences him to buy a dhow( sail boat) to have a comfortable life in Paradise. Zamora's passion for the unknown, a reckless adventurous lifestyle and a sordid past lands him in nightmarish situations. Through three separate emotionally charged relationships, (Zulfa, Saada and Zareena) he almost becomes a victim of the confrontation between the good and the evil. Zulfa stands for pure, innocent love but is tied down by traditional restrictions. Saada stands for the mystical, magical and unconditioned side to the African psyche. Zareena stands for power and obsession and its corrupting impact. The film explores the adoptive nature of the African spirit with all its consequent pros and cons.
