- DirectorLee DanielsStarsGabourey SidibeMo'NiquePaula PattonIn New York City's Harlem circa 1987, an overweight, abused, illiterate teen who is pregnant with her second child is invited to enroll in an alternative school in hopes that she can re-route her life in a better direction.1/1/2014-Didn't really want to see this, but I just ended up watching it because I wanted to see Monique say "Who-who-who is going to take care of me?" That was funny.
- DirectorSeth GordonStarsJason BatemanMelissa McCarthyJohn ChoMild mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Florida to confront the deceptively harmless looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy's identity.1/2/2014-I found the two "stars" of the movie very annoying. Not funny at all, even in a dumb way.
- DirectorDaniel EspinosaStarsDenzel WashingtonRyan ReynoldsRobert PatrickA young CIA agent is tasked with looking after a fugitive in a safe house. But when the safe house is attacked, he finds himself on the run with his charge.1/9-Alright. Pretty standard Denzel to me.
- DirectorAng LeeStarsSuraj SharmaIrrfan KhanAdil HussainA young man who survives a disaster at sea is hurtled into an epic journey of adventure and discovery. While cast away, he forms an unexpected connection with another survivor: a fearsome Bengal tiger.1/19-Wow, pretty intense. It was a really incredible collage of Indian culture, religious symbolism, colorful animals, lush land and seascapes in a coming of age film about an Indian teen. So good to see another culture and places we don't see in most movies.
- DirectorTodd GraffStarsQueen LatifahDolly PartonKeke PalmerG.G. Sparrow faces off with her choir's newly appointed director, Vi Rose Hill, over the group's direction as they head into a national competition.2/13-Better than I thought it would be. Good in all respects especially musically. The plot is a bit cliche but is enjoyable. Hard to believe how fast the young starlet Keke Palmer is growing.
- DirectorMeir ZarchiStarsCamille KeatonEron TaborRichard PaceAn aspiring writer is repeatedly assaulted, humiliated, and left for dead by four men she systematically hunts down to seek revenge.2/15-What a piece of crap. A horrible movie that seems to mistake sadism and misery for entertainment. Stripped down to the core showing the worst in people, there is nothing good at all about this. Avoid at all costs.
- DirectorRyan CooglerStarsMichael B. JordanMelonie DiazOctavia SpencerThe story of Oscar Grant III, a 22-year-old Bay Area resident, who crosses paths with friends, enemies, family, and strangers on the last day of 2008.2/17-Very good retelling of a young black man who gets unjustifiably killed by a stupid police officer. Excellent.
- DirectorPaul GreengrassStarsTom HanksBarkhad AbdiBarkhad AbdirahmanThe true story of Captain Richard Phillips and the 2009 hijacking by Somali pirates of the U.S.-flagged MV Maersk Alabama, the first American cargo ship to be hijacked in two hundred years.3/3-Excellent movie. I remember hearing about the original incident when it happened. Great re-telling of this story.
- DirectorRob CohenStarsTyler PerryMatthew FoxRachel NicholsA homicide detective is pushed to the brink of his moral and physical limits as he tangles with a ferociously skilled hired killer who specializes in torture and pain.3/6-Better than I thought. Excellent! I underestimated Tyler's non Madea acting abilities.
- DirectorLauren GreenfieldStarsJaqueline SiegelDavid SiegelLorraine BarrettA documentary that follows a billionaire couple as they begin construction on a mansion inspired by Versailles. During the next two years, their empire, fueled by the real estate bubble and cheap money, falters due to the economic crisis.3/8-This was on CNBC after Suze Orman. Pretty interesting. 2008 affected so many people!
- DirectorMalcolm D. LeeStarsMonica CalhounMorris ChestnutMelissa De SousaWhen college friends reunite after 15 years over the Christmas holidays, they discover just how easy it is for long-forgotten rivalries and romances to be reignited.3/18-Though I have some complaints about this sequel, I thought it was really moving.
- DirectorRic Roman WaughStarsDwayne JohnsonSusan SarandonJon BernthalA father goes undercover for the DEA in order to free his son, who was imprisoned after being set up in a drug deal.4/19-Good, but would have liked to see The Rock waste a few more heads.
- DirectorJohn MooreStarsBruce WillisJai CourtneySebastian KochJohn McClane travels to Russia to help out his seemingly wayward son, Jack, only to discover that Jack is a CIA operative working undercover, causing the father and son to team up against underworld forces.4/20-Bruce too old for the same antics?
- DirectorJefferson MooreStarsChristina FougnieJefferson MooreTom LuceAn abused runaway changes the life of a homeless Gulf War vet.5/24-Watched this on TBN, didn't know what to expect, but it really pulled me in. Very inspirational.
- DirectorTim StoryStarsIce CubeKevin HartTika SumpterSecurity guard Ben must prove himself to his girlfriend's brother, top police officer James. He rides along James on a 24-hour patrol of Atlanta.5/24-Look forward to this. Nothing that special though. As far as Ice Cube is concerned, I am still stuck on Friday.
- DirectorRuben FleischerStarsSean PennRyan GoslingEmma StoneIt's 1949 Los Angeles, the city is run by gangsters and a malicious mobster, Mickey Cohen. Determined to end the corruption, John O'Mara assembles a team of cops, ready to take down the ruthless leader and restore peace to the city.6/1-Didnt really hold my interest the first time. Might try to watch again.
- DirectorRZAStarsRussell CroweCung LeLucy LiuOn the hunt for a fabled treasure of gold, a band of warriors, assassins, and a rogue British soldier descend upon a village in feudal China, where a humble blacksmith looks to defend himself and his fellow villagers.6/7-Not bad, but not what I expected. There are kung fu movies that excite me, and kung fu movies that bore me.
- DirectorPeyton ReedStarsJennifer AnistonVince VaughnJon FavreauA couple's break-up proceeds to get uglier and nastier by the moment as each tries to keep their luxurious condo from the other.6/8-Seen this before. VH1 plays this as a "movie that rocks." Well, I don't know how or in what way it "rocks" but I just got caught up.
- DirectorChad BurnsStarsAaron BurnsMarilyn MooneyChad BurnsSet in 411 AD, Pendragon tells the story of young Artos who is raised to believe that God has a purpose for each day. When his family is killed and he is taken into slavery by the Saxons, Artos questions his God. Advancing through the military ranks, Artos begins to understand that his father's vision was not based on the strength of man, but on the plan of God. Further betrayal by his friends forces Artos to decide between following God's plan unto certain death or abandoning God to save his own life.6/14-It seems alot of people hate this, but it is really a potentially great story that is a bit rough around the edges. A better production that wasn't so low budget would have made this epic.
- DirectorBenson LeeStarsJosh HollowayLaz AlonsoJosh PeckBattle of the Year attracts all the best teams from around the world, but the Americans haven't won in fifteen years. Dante enlists Blake to assemble a team of the best dancers and bring the Trophy back to America where it started.6/28-Pleasant surprise. Wasn't sure about watching this on demand, but it was a good dance movie. The extra drama in the movie was fillled with a bunch of cliche's and wasn't that good, but the real reason to watch this is for the breakdance sequences. Wait, do they still call it that?
- DirectorNelson McCormickStarsMarlee MatlinRegina KingPhilip LesterAn ambitious but inexperienced young lawyer defends a deaf political campaign manager accused of murder. Is her client too blinded by love to reveal all?6/29-Pretty good courtroom drama movie watched on an early Sunday morning.
- DirectorLarry ClarkStarsBrad RenfroNick StahlBijou PhillipsA pack of naïve teenagers conspire to murder a mutual friend, whose aggressive demeanour has proven too much.7/5-Movie about a bunch of drugged out kids who live on fast food, violent video games, gangsta rap and drugs. Kinda reminded me of "Alpha Dog", "Spring Breakers" and "States Evidence". Had to turn it off when unnecessary and crude sex scenes came on; I didn't want to see that! The whole thing left me with a bad taste in my mouth. Why can't there be movies about kids who are successful, rather than these losers?
- DirectorFrancis Ford CoppolaStarsC. Thomas HowellMatt DillonRalph MacchioIn a small Oklahoma town in 1964, the rivalry between two gangs, the poor Greasers and the rich Socs, heats up when one gang member accidentally kills a member of the other.7/13-When I see this movie I cry like a b---ch.

JacksonJohn HeardKelly Rowan15 months after being stabbed 9 times by a student at work as a high school teacher in NYC, Mr. Garfield is working in LA as a substitute teacher come full-time. He refuses to be a victim anymore.7/20-Saw this many times before, but not sure why I watched it this day. Oh, it was on some cable channel.
- DirectorReginald HudlinStarsSamuel L. JacksonJeff GoldblumDamon WayansThe boxing champ's promoter thinks change is needed. He finds the one man who's beaten his champ, a white man now in a rock band. Like Rocky, he trains heavily whereas the champ slacks.7/20-Never really felt the need to watch this, so today I did and I finally found out that it stunk, really bad.
- DirectorRobert TownsendStarsRobert TownsendMarla GibbsEddie GriffinA high school teacher from a troubled inner city Washington D.C. neighborhood becomes a super-powered hero and takes on the gang that has been terrorizing his streets.7/20-Not sure why, but I watched this from beginning to end.
- DirectorJim McKayStarsKerry WashingtonAnna SimpsonMelissa MartinezFocusing on the bonding between three girls in Brooklyn's "Jackie Robinson Steppers Marching Band" and the choices the girls face once their high school closes down for asbestos removal.8/2-This movie is as real as life itself. A young Kerry Washington doing her thing.
- DirectorMichael CuestaStarsRon EldardBobby CannavaleJill HennessyAfter 20 years on the road with Blue Oyster Cult, Jimmy Testagros returns to his hometown to life with his ailing mother. Complications arise when he falls for an old friend, who is now married to his longtime nemesis.8/10-So-so middle age life tragedy.
- DirectorTerry IngramStarsJohn RatzenbergerDakota DaulbyWoody JeffreysA troubled youth vandalizes a church, then winds up in close association with the woodcarver whose work he destroyed.8/16-Saw this on TBN, it was okay. A rather meaningful film.
- DirectorShawn LevyStarsVince VaughnOwen WilsonRose ByrneTwo salesmen whose careers have been torpedoed by the digital age find their way into a coveted internship at Google, where they must compete with a group of young, tech-savvy geniuses for a shot at employment.8/19-They were good in "The Wedding Crashers", but in this....just ok. Funny guys, but the story was just so so.
- DirectorAdam ShankmanStarsMandy MooreShane WestPeter CoyoteTwo North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is sentenced to perform community service.8/23-Another TBN afternoon. It was good, but the trappings of the teeny booper, good girl meets bad boy, teenage trials and tribulations was just a bit much for me. And I was confused as to why TBN showed this movie in the first place?
- DirectorAlfonso CuarónStarsSandra BullockGeorge ClooneyEd HarrisDr Ryan Stone, an engineer on her first time on a space mission, and Matt Kowalski, an astronaut on his final expedition, have to survive in space after they are hit by debris while spacewalking.8/24-Not what I expected but OK.
- DirectorJohn StimpsonStarsGail O'GradyChris GartinJames McDanielAfter the apparent suicide of her daughter, a woman tries to prove that her son-in-law killed her.9/7-One of those Lifetime movies, was really good. Some of the acting was off and the ending was predictable but it was amusing nonetheless.
- DirectorminkStarsShaun BakerBusta RhymesBubba SmithOn returning home to settle his late father's affairs, Joshua Pope finds a different town from the one he left. The once quiet neighborhood is at the mercy of a prejudiced and corrupt police force.9/13-"Hood" flick I had to turn off. Busta is a great rapper but not convincing as a "badass"
- DirectorOlivier MegatonStarsLiam NeesonFamke JanssenMaggie GraceIn Istanbul, retired CIA operative Bryan Mills and his wife are taken hostage by the father of a kidnapper Mills killed while rescuing his daughter.9/14-Watched on demand, didn't hold my interest though. Not as good as the first one.
- DirectorWalter HillStarsMichael ParéDiane LaneRick MoranisA mercenary is hired to rescue his ex-girlfriend, a singer who has been kidnapped by a motorcycle gang.9/17-I just finished watching a football game on ESPN, I had a bunch of stuff to do, and all of a sudden I turn this on. I only wanted to watch one scene, ended up taking in the whole thing. Its like potato chips.
- DirectorClay GlenStarsNina PearceAdam TuominenEmily MorrisA young girl and her coach overcome adversity to make their way into the National Australian Gymnastics Squad.9/27-Suprisingly good coming of age movie! It was on TBN, and though it wasn't obvious in it's focus, there was much in this movie about forgiveness and reconciliation.
- DirectorMichel GondryStarsMichael BrodieTeresa LynnFrancesca PintoA look at the lives of a group of teenagers who ride the same bus route and how their relationships change and evolve on the last day of school.9/27-Excellent! Like an urban "Breakfast Club"!
- DirectorSteve PinkStarsKevin HartMichael EalyRegina HallFollow two couples as they journey from the bar to the bedroom and are eventually put to the test in the real world.10/4-A white romantic comedy with black actors.
- DirectorMartin DavidsonStarsTom BerengerMichael ParéJoe PantolianoA television newswoman picks up the story of a 1960s rock band whose long-lost leader Eddie Wilson may still be alive, while searching for the missing tapes of the band's never-released album.10/20-Broke down and saw this for the first time. I never liked that "Dark Side" song, but this movie was better than I expected.
- DirectorHenry Alex RubinStarsJason BatemanJonah BoboHaley RammA drama centered on a group of people searching for human connections in today's wired world.10/29-Kinda an update of the movie "Crash", whereas in "Crash" people are connected by racism and gun violence, in this movie everybody is connected via the creepy stuff some of the characters (and people in general) do on the internet.
- DirectorJustin LinStarsVin DieselPaul WalkerDwayne JohnsonHobbs has Dominic and Brian reassemble their crew to take down a team of mercenaries: Dominic unexpectedly gets sidetracked with facing his presumed deceased girlfriend, Letty.11/8-Hot chicks, awesome stunts, Rock kicking ass, Tyrese and Luda's corny lines, fast paced fight scenes, fast cars, cheesy plot and a killer team. What more could you want?? Awesome.
- DirectorCharles Stone IIIStarsKeke PalmerRochelle AytesEvan RossThe story of Legendary hip hop/r&b/pop trio TLC.11/15-Despite the catiness and distortions that only a real follower of the industry like myself would pick up on (and there are alot) this bio had alot of good intentions but was flawed. I liked the actresses, but it seems like the producers had an agenda in making this.
- DirectorBradley WalshStarsAlexandra ShippElise NealChristopher JacotThe story of music and video star Aaliyah, whose life ended tragically in a 2001 plane crash in the Bahamas.11/15-Just alright, I think that the Lifetime TV movie gave the R&B princess a Disney treatment. Even the songs they tried to focus on that she did were more of the syrupy kind as opposed to her urban jams.
- DirectorUwe BollStarsDominic PurcellErin KarplukEdward FurlongJim, an average New Yorker, lives with a sick but loving wife. Suddenly, everything changes when the economy crashes and causes him to lose everything. Filled with anger and rage, Jim goes to seek revenge for the life taken from him.11/16-Not so subtle socially irresponsible "political statement" movie that makes mass shootings into entertainment. Pretty disgusting if you ask me.
- DirectorJaume Collet-SerraStarsLiam NeesonJulianne MooreScoot McNairyAn air marshal springs into action during a transatlantic flight after receiving a series of text messages demanding $150 million into an off-shore account, or someone will die every 20 minutes.11/16-Thrilling but predictable action story. I was kinda turned off by how actress Lupita Nyong'O got barely any screen time or lines. But the movie wasn't that great anyways.
- DirectorCraig ClydeStarsDavid BoweWilford BrimleyMary Beth McDonoughEddie, a fourteen-year-old juvenile delinquent of sorts, collides with a car during a petty theft and dies in the hospital. Due to some confusion in heaven, however, he is given three days to clean up his life with the help of a guardian angel - and save his mom.11/22-Corny, cheesy, but had a good message. Highly recommended, if you can get past the lame jokes.
- DirectorJohn PolsonStarsJesse BradfordErika ChristensenShiri ApplebyA high school senior with a promising swimming career has a one-night stand with consequences.11/23-Saw this in the theater. Saw again on "NickMom" Don't know why I watched it again. I really don't know.
- DirectorJohn MiliusStarsPatrick SwayzeC. Thomas HowellLea ThompsonIt is the dawn of World War III. In the west mountains of America, a group of teenagers band together to defend their town, and their country, from invading Soviet forces.12/4-Another 80s flick I decided to watch. I thought this was going to be some mindless anti-commie propaganda and avoided it when it first came out (didn't see it in any format) but it was on Esquire network and I loved it! This is truly one of the greatest films of the 80s! Very relevant given the state of the world today.
- DirectorTerry IngramStarsAllison HossackAaron PearlDan PayneDue to a road closure, eight strangers must take refuge in an abandoned church during a storm. They learn how to manage through various dilemmas by working together.12/6-Very somber but positive Christmas movie on TBN. Liked the theme song at the end.
- DirectorTom GormicanStarsZac EfronMichael B. JordanMiles TellerThree best friends find themselves where we've all been - at that confusing moment in every dating relationship when you have to decide "So...where is this going?"12/13-I liked it. I remember in the 80s you had your "coming of age" classics. "Stand By Me" is a good example. Now, it seems like these days, the romcom is the "coming of age" movie. This one epitomized the romcom as the new "coming of age" movie very well.
- DirectorCraig ClydeStarsKristy SwansonEdward HerrmannK.C. ClydeAbandoned by her husband a few days before Christmas, Martha Evans travels cross-country with the kids in search of work.12/20-Very nice, very sweet Christmas flick.
- DirectorFranc. ReyesStarsJohn LeguizamoPeter SarsgaardDenise RichardsA successful South Bronx drug dealer turns his back on his roots and gives money to a Wall Street broker to invest for him.12/20-I dunno why, I like this kind of movie, but I had to sit through this a few times to take it all in. Not that it was complex, it just goes from one extreme (South Bronx) to another (Wall Street).
- DirectorTodd Strauss-SchulsonStarsKal PennJohn ChoNeil Patrick HarrisSix years after their Guantanamo Bay adventure, stoner buds Harold Lee and Kumar Patel cause a holiday fracas by inadvertently burning down Harold's father-in-law's prize Christmas tree.12/24-My Christmas Eve movie. Outrageous and pretty bizarre at times but it was cool. Missed the 3D though.
- DirectorNeil BurgerStarsShailene WoodleyTheo JamesKate WinsletIn a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late.12/25-As hard edge and violent as it was, everybody was so damn pretty!
- DirectorKasi LemmonsStarsForest WhitakerAngela BassettJennifer HudsonA street-wise teen from Baltimore who has been raised by a single mother travels to New York City to spend the Christmas holiday with his estranged relatives, where he embarks on a surprising and inspirational journey.12/27-Had to turn off. Somber ghetto misery. Zzzzzzzz
- DirectorPeter SegalStarsRobert De NiroSylvester StalloneKim BasingerA pair of aging boxing rivals are coaxed out of retirement to fight one final bout, thirty years after their last match.12/27-Other than the coming together of 2 Hollywood titans, Kevin Hart didn't exactly steal the show but he did make it a bit more interesting.
