- DirectorLeslie H. MartinsonStarsAdam WestBurt WardLee MeriwetherThe Dynamic Duo faces four supervillains who plan to hold the world for ransom with the help of a secret invention that instantly dehydrates people. This is a No Brainer this was one of the first times the industry attempt to test if the whole comic book to TV/Film could work, due to his succes as a comic.
- DirectorRichard DonnerStarsChristopher ReeveMargot KidderGene HackmanAn alien orphan is sent from his dying planet to Earth, where he grows up to become his adoptive home's first and greatest superhero.Without this Movie We probably wouldn't have the whole Super Hero Cinema as we Know it today as a whole.
- DirectorMark GoldblattStarsDolph LundgrenLouis Gossett Jr.Jeroen KrabbéWhen Frank Castle's family is murdered by criminals, he wages war on crime as a vigilante assassin known only as The Punisher. The Dark and Avenging type of Hero/Anti-Hero.
Transitioned in some kind of Reboot in 2004 Punisher which was darker but had much less Gore involved which got somekind of sequel in 2008
with a new Actor and Much more Blood and Gore involved. From those 3 Punisher Movies the latest is closer to the Comics than the others. - DirectorWillard HuyckStarsLea ThompsonJeffrey JonesTim RobbinsA sarcastic humanoid duck is pulled from his homeworld to Earth where he must stop an alien invasion with the help of a nerdy scientist and a struggling female rock singer.Underrated Movie which barely made its Cost back without even mentionin the Promo Cost.
Still to this day Unique in it's kind of Comic Book Movie - DirectorTim BurtonStarsMichael KeatonJack NicholsonKim BasingerThe Dark Knight of Gotham City begins his war on crime with his first major enemy being Jack Napier, a criminal who becomes the clownishly homicidal Joker. This was one of the first and early attempts the industry tried to release a more Darker take on the Genre itself, with Succes, i regard Batman Returns the sequel as one of the Best Hero Movies made to this day.
- DirectorSam RaimiStarsLiam NeesonFrances McDormandColin FrielsA brilliant scientist left for dead returns to exact revenge on the people who burned him alive. This was the next take on taking the whole genre grittier and darker not perfect but definetly a Cult Film.
- DirectorMark A.Z. DippéStarsMichael Jai WhiteJohn LeguizamoMartin SheenAn elite mercenary is killed, but comes back from Hell as a reluctant soldier of the Devil. The next step in darker grittier take on the Format, though not as dark
as necessary, but at least a solid try. - DirectorKinka UsherStarsBen StillerJaneane GarofaloWilliam H. MacyA group of inept amateur superheroes must try to save the day when a supervillain threatens to destroy a major superhero and the city.Funny Underrated Satire about Amateur Super Heroes
- DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsBruce WillisSamuel L. JacksonRobin WrightA man learns something extraordinary about himself after a devastating accident. An actual really good Movie that explores the Idea of some one who, in a world as belieavble as possible, discovers that he has "Super Power's"
and can use them to save people (The less you know about this Movie the better, i dont want to spoil anything).
I consider this as the first Superhero Movie that tries to act as realistic as possible while in the same time exploring the idea of someone "different". If you look at The Dark Knight Trillogy and other superhero/whatever of this kind films you can see some resemblance in terms of the tone and ground idea of the society reacting to this kind of person - DirectorBryan SingerStarsPatrick StewartHugh JackmanIan McKellenIn a world where mutants (evolved super-powered humans) exist and are discriminated against, two groups form for an inevitable clash: the supremacist Brotherhood, and the pacifist X-Men.This was one of The first times we Saw Super Hero Movies as an Ensemble Cast, in a pretty Entertaining and fairish balanced act.
As of today in terms of Ensemble Cast Super Hero Movies we see the same Movie over and over again only with different characters and or more Spectacular.
Avengers could be seen as a Child of this Flick because it has the same infrastructure and premise, only as said before different costume and setting - DirectorTakashi MiikeStarsTadanobu AsanoNao ÔmoriShin'ya TsukamotoAs sadomasochistic yakuza enforcer Kakihara searches for his missing boss he comes across Ichi, a repressed and psychotic killer who may be able to inflict levels of pain that Kakihara has only dreamed of achieving. This Movie is based on a Manga and inspired the look and parts of the Personality of the Joker in The Dark Knight (2008), as you can see on the Cover.
In terms of Violence it also inspired Future Horror Cinema.
[Be Warned Only watch this if you are able to cope with Ultra Violant and depressing Movies about Sociopaths, Psychopaths, Masochists, it also features Graphic Rape & Torture !!! (and i don't mean that to sell you this Movie, it wasn't the kind of Movie i normaly watch, in fact i didn't know exacly what kind of Film it was).] - DirectorSam RaimiStarsTobey MaguireKirsten DunstWillem DafoeAfter being bitten by a genetically-modified spider, a shy teenager gains spider-like abilities that he uses to fight injustice as a masked superhero and face a vengeful enemy.Following the path of Superman it lead the Way we see the Light Hearted Fun Block Buster Super Hero Movie as of now, you can call it Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, and else.
A Cocktail featuring romance comedy Fun Adventure and scheme f likeable characters and character development. Not Bad but more like Fastfood for the brain.
First you see the Hero rise and having fun with his or her powers than the enemy comes close and everything seems to go downhill and boom happy end every one saved, than the sequel is on its way and you get the whole thing again. - DirectorAng LeeStarsEric BanaJennifer ConnellySam ElliottBruce Banner, a genetics researcher with a tragic past, suffers an accident that causes him to transform into a raging green monster when he gets angry. This was the First and Serious attempt to Show a Super Hero in a
more Believable and darker Way, at least Psychological wise.
For some reason this Movie doesn't get the recognision it Should have because if this Movie wouldn't have been made we presumably would not have Super Hero Movies focusing so much on the Psychology of the Main character and his Psycho Duality problems plus th pressure on the love interest.
Totaly Underrated and great Movie, Not a Master Piece but a solid 7-8 stars. If Batman Begins wouldn't have been influenced by this and Hulk would've come out after Batman the people would have much more appreciate this Hulk, but in it's time people wanted more of Hulk Bashing this and that than Human Drama - DirectorPark Chan-wookStarsChoi Min-sikYoo Ji-taeKang Hye-jeongAfter being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-Su is released, only to find that he must track down his captor in five days. This Movie is Actualy Cineast wise A Classic Master Piece and one of the rare Comic Book/Manga movies that is in every terms perfect.
- DirectorGuillermo del ToroStarsRon PerlmanDoug JonesSelma BlairA demon raised from infancy after being conjured by and rescued from the Nazis, grows up to become a defender against the forces of darkness.Compared to all the other Hero Movies this is one of the most interesting, because it focuses more on the Fantasy and Situational Comedy aspect, with less Rom-Com elements.
But same as for Watchmen (read in detail in Watchmen article)
it wasn't a succes commercialy wise, at least we got a sequel - DirectorGarth JenningsStarsMartin FreemanYasiin BeySam RockwellMere seconds before the Earth is to be demolished by an alien construction crew, journeyman Arthur Dent is swept off the planet by his friend Ford Prefect, a researcher penning a new edition of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy."Smart and Funny Ensemble Cast Graphic Novel Film
- DirectorFrank MillerQuentin TarantinoRobert RodriguezStarsMickey RourkeClive OwenBruce WillisAn exploration of the dark and miserable Basin City and three of its residents, all of whom are caught up in violent corruption.Great Ensemble Cast Graphic Novel Movie with many Storys being put together in the End. Possible contender for all time CLassic
- DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsKeanu ReevesRachel WeiszDjimon HounsouSupernatural exorcist and demonologist John Constantine helps a policewoman prove her sister's death was not a suicide, but something more. This is also a new attempt to tell a comic book (kind of Super Hero) story in a much darker way which sadly wasn't as succes full as possible.
- DirectorJames McTeigueStarsHugo WeavingNatalie PortmanRupert GravesIn a future British dystopian society, a shadowy freedom fighter, known only by the alias of "V", plots to overthrow the tyrannical government - with the help of a young woman. One of the few that calls to revolution to a government that controls and observes every step of society.
Funny anecdote since 2013 its officialy true and no one cares and does something against it. - DirectorChristopher NolanStarsChristian BaleMichael CaineKen WatanabeAfter witnessing his parents' death, Bruce learns the art of fighting to confront injustice. When he returns to Gotham as Batman, he must stop a secret society that intends to destroy the city. This Took the industry as whole to the next Evolution of Super Hero Movies, it tells a Story about a Hero not Being born as such and all the Psychological problems with it.
After the First Attempt of Darkman and Hulk, it boroughs more from the spirit from the tone of the Chracter Hulk/Banner and his involvement on the rest of the characters plus World.
It doesnt do anything New but it refines previews attempts and make it sellable. - DirectorDavid CronenbergStarsViggo MortensenMaria BelloEd HarrisA mild-mannered man becomes a local hero through an act of violence, which sets off repercussions that will shake his family to its very core.Same as Oldboy focusing totaly on the Human Drama and not Super Hero or else power, more on the pure power of Human Drama.
Great Timeless Cinema. - DirectorJon FavreauStarsRobert Downey Jr.Gwyneth PaltrowTerrence HowardAfter being held captive in an Afghan cave, billionaire engineer Tony Stark creates a unique weaponized suit of armor to fight evil.Has all the usual Summer Blockbuster Super Hero Movie ingredients plus the Main Character having a smooth mouth (or how i call it a bit of James Bond Roger Moore era Personality).
Entertaining but nothing special.
Also part of the Avengers Feature Film Franchise and the Start of the Marvel Yearly Super Hero Film Madness, since then we get at least 2-4 Films from the Marvel Universe yearly. - DirectorZack SnyderStarsJackie Earle HaleyPatrick WilsonCarla GuginoIn a version of 1985 where superheroes exist, the murder of a colleague sends active vigilante Rorschach on the trail of a conspiracy that will change the course of history. This Movie is for IMDB conditions totaly underrated and should be considered as a Movie Power House of Master Piece (only time will tell if it stance the Test of time).
It Took the whole Genre by Storm and was just too much for a big audience, rather focusing on satire and parody of the World, Politics, Society reacting to Super Hero's as Gods, this Movie Flopped totaly in barely made it's budget back not even counting the promo budget, it failed miserable and sadly teached the Industry that to this day never again Produce an R Rated Movie with Mature themes and plot with a budget bigger than 50 million, this Movie cost about 150 Million dollars and wasnt well received by the Vox Populi, most people awaited to see more of a Spiderman/XMen/Batman Movie instead they got an Block Buster Art House Film which was confusing loong and boring (for them) Movie which asked drastic Questions on Human Behaviour to War and its modern God Complex forshadowed by Superheros.
I Would consider this as one of the Best Movies ever Made, it could be the Blade Runner of our generation.
Blade Runner back then was considered as boring and bad by most critics and audience, same goes for its box office, it was a total flop and only decades after seen as the Classic Master Piece it is.
Same as Watchmen it was just ahead of its time - DirectorPeter StebbingsStarsWoody HarrelsonKat DenningsSandra OhArthur Poppington, a regular man who adopts a superhero persona, known as "Defendor", combs the city streets at night, in search of his archenemy, Captain Industry. This Picture is actualy not base upon a Comic/Graphic Novel but it surely is inspired by them, it shows a demented Human thinking he is the Hero fighting criminals, great Comedy Satire.
Unique take on the whole sub-genre - DirectorShinsuke SatoStarsKazunari NinomiyaKanata HongôKen'ichi MatsuyamaAfter trying to rescue a man on the subway tracks, two teens wake up in a room dominated by a mysterious black sphere that sends them to hunt down and kill aliens hiding on Earth.Based Upon the Manga and for some reason ,ostly unknown and underrated Action Movie featuring unusual Heroes which by the end of the Second Film don't seem as Heroic as in the Begining
- DirectorJames GunnStarsRainn WilsonElliot PageLiv TylerAfter his wife falls under the influence of a drug dealer, an everyday guy transforms himself into Crimson Bolt, a superhero with the best intentions, but lacking in heroic skills.A satirical look at a Person who someday decides to become a Hero.
Be warned there is Violance involved.
To this day the only "Super-Hero" Movie of it's kind - DirectorMatthew VaughnStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonNicolas CageChloë Grace MoretzDave Lizewski is an unnoticed high school student and comic book fan who one day decides to become a superhero, even though he has no powers, training or meaningful reason to do so.A new attempt on th Hero Satire told in a much more believable way,
and as mentioned before with Watchmen, an R Rated Movie with a budget under 50 Million.
Entertaining but nothing more, the sequel is again more of the same i even found it weaker because it could have been the first Movie again only with the characters talking about the past adventures, but the main protagonist seems to have forgoten everything he learned in the first and has to start everything from scratch. - DirectorJosh TrankStarsDane DeHaanAlex RussellMichael B. JordanThree high school friends gain superpowers after making an incredible discovery underground. Soon they find their lives spinning out of control and their bond tested as they embrace their darker sides. While not based on a Comic or Graphic Novel it got at least inspired by them, and if you are into "Found Footage" Movies you will find with this picture one of the best
- DirectorJoss WhedonStarsRobert Downey Jr.Chris EvansScarlett JohanssonEarth's mightiest heroes must come together and learn to fight as a team if they are going to stop the mischievous Loki and his alien army from enslaving humanity.Entertaining Brainless Big Budget Spectaculum.
As stated before this is the Incarnation of the X-Men Film concept mixed with the witty humour from the Spider-Man movie, and it continues to do so in the future with more sequels prequels and carbon copies. A JLA Movie is on its way which will be the same kind of Movie mixed with a darker tone, well probably see more of those ensemble Super Hero Brain Fast-Food Films. - DirectorJames GunnStarsChris PrattVin DieselBradley CooperA group of intergalactic criminals must pull together to stop a fanatical warrior with plans to purge the universe.A Mix of The Old Star Wars Trilogy and James Gunn Humour equals=
A comedyc Fun Time on screen, while not inventing anything new it surely executes everything from its sub genre well.
This made me feel like when i was a Kid and Watched the Star Wars Rerun in the 90's. - DirectorZack SnyderStarsBen AffleckHenry CavillAmy AdamsBatman is manipulated by Lex Luthor to fear Superman. Superman´s existence is meanwhile dividing the world and he is framed for murder during an international crisis. The heroes clash and force the neutral Wonder Woman to reemerge.DC´s attempt at starting a Shared Filmverse
- DirectorTim MillerStarsRyan ReynoldsMorena BaccarinT.J. MillerA wisecracking mercenary gets experimented on and becomes immortal yet hideously scarred, and sets out to track down the man who ruined his looks.A new and succesfull attempt of making an R Rated (by US Standards)
Super Hero Movie, which might not be the best Film but certainly has a lot of Fans, with pushing the boundaries in its Super Hero Genre by being Loud, Crude, Childish Humour and constant 4th Wall Breaking (will people understand most of its jokes in 10 Years from after its release ?, probably not, but it sure was a succes and spawned Sequels). If you like it or not for its thin Plot, one thing is for sure it helped argue that R Rated Super Heroes can make Money (where Watchmen sadly bombed, not by its Outstanding Quality which will keep people talking over the decades).
As for it being a Massive succes on a comparable tiny Budget, it inspired Fox to produce Logan aka Wolverine 3 - DirectorJames MangoldStarsHugh JackmanPatrick StewartDafne KeenIn a future where mutants are nearly extinct, an elderly and weary Logan leads a quiet life. But when Laura, a mutant child pursued by scientists, comes to him for help, he must get her to safety.Great film in its Genre, while not being a classical Super Hero Movie perse it surely takes a lot of elements of Western Movies (Films like Anti-Western come to mind: Unforgiven).
The Sad truth is that this finally is the Wolverine Movie everyone waited for, as for one of the reasons, Wolverine feeling castrated in all its previews Movie appearances.
