8 Things You Need to Know About "MacGyver"1 of 8
MacGyver Still Uses Lo-Tech Science as a Weapon
During the 1980s, when the original "MacGyver" aired, the character was unique because he was a secret agent who thwarted evil with his brains rather than his brawn. While there are now plenty of shows with geeky heroes, "MacGyver" still stands out because he uses improvised inventions rather than computers. Executive producer Peter Lenkov explains, "A sticky situation is a sticky situation. You can’t get out of it using a smartphone or a laptop, and I think that’s the idea. It makes people think about the things that are in our everyday lives and how we repurpose them."
Adds Lucas Till who plays MacGyver, "There are things about MacGyver that [fans] are like, 'He was compassionate. He’d always talk to kids on the street and help orphans.' He was a super-nice guy, understanding… I want to make sure that [he's] still that."
