- DirectorFrank OzStarsKevin KlineJoan CusackTom SelleckA midwestern teacher questions his sexuality after a former student makes a comment about him at the Academy Awards.Watched: March 1st 2015
My Opinions: Coming Soon
Verdict: D - DirectorBrad BirdStarsTom CruiseJeremy RennerSimon PeggThe IMF is shut down when it's implicated in the bombing of the Kremlin, causing Ethan Hunt and his new team to go rogue to clear their organization's name.Watched: March 5th 2015
My Opinions: Not bad. Tom Cruise gives a good performance and the supporting cast is top notch. However, the character moments feel forced, the story isn't that strong and neither are the plot twists, but the action sequences are well designed and thought out and there is occasionally some pretty clever dialogue.
Verdict: B - DirectorJohn WooStarsTom CruiseDougray ScottThandiwe NewtonIMF agent Ethan Hunt is sent to Sydney to find and destroy a genetically modified disease called "Chimera".Watched: March 5th 2015
My Opinions: Eh. The character development is weak (Particularly among the supporting characters), Thandie Newton is a forced romantic partner to Tom Cruise, and while I can see the chemistry, the relationship is developed way too fast. Tom Cruise gives a so-so performance while Dougray Scott shines in a one note role. It had moments in which it was fun, but not that many.
Verdict: C- (Possibly D+) - DirectorKevin CostnerStarsKevin CostnerMary McDonnellGraham GreeneLieutenant John Dunbar, assigned to a remote western Civil War outpost, finds himself engaging with a neighbouring Sioux settlement, causing him to question his own purpose.Watched: March 6th 2015
My Opinions: I'll admit that I only half watched it, but from what I did see, I really liked. The character development is there, the portrayal of the Native Americans is top notch and Kevin Costner gives an inspired performance alongside the excellent supporting cast. The production design is good, and while i'll admit the film is alittle too long, it justifies its length. I just wish there was just a little more tension.
Verdict: B+ - DirectorWilliam FriedkinStarsTommy Lee JonesSamuel L. JacksonGuy PearceAn attorney defends an officer on trial for ordering his troops to fire on civilians after they stormed a U.S. embassy in a Middle Eastern country.Watched: March 6th 2015
My Opinions: Good court drama. Solid performances by Tommy Lee Jones, Samuel L Jackson and Guy Peirce.
Verdict: B - DirectorChristian AlvartStarsDennis QuaidBen FosterCam GigandetTwo crew members of a spaceship wake up from hypersleep to discover that all their colleagues are missing. Despite this, it appears that they are not alone.Watched: March 7th 2015
My Opinions: Held my interest until the end even though the film wasn't that great. This is something that is hard to do... The concept has many-many holes, but it was intriguing enough that it kept me watching. The directing is top notch, the set design is great... The character development wasn't there, but the lighting was good. I'll say this: The film had a few large rocky moments, and a few really good moments (Particularly in the concluding 40 minutes).
Verdict: C - DirectorTodor ChapkanovStarsJason LondonWes BrownGary GrubbsWashington haunting series of weather disasters, devastating the city. Two brothers - sons of a recognized scientist and meteorologist - begin an investigation to explain the unexpected attacks of nature.Watched: March 7th 2015
My Opinions: Ok, so I just wanted to say that the films actual title is Weather Wars'. This is your average made-for-TV movie. Cheap visual effects, bad editing, poor performances... All that you'd expect and more... We also get a script that adds in one dimensional characters, and a story that wasn't well constructed.
Verdict: D- - DirectorMasayuki OchiaiStarsJoshua JacksonRachael TaylorJames KysonA newly married couple discovers disturbing, ghostly images in photographs they develop after a tragic accident. Fearing the manifestations may be connected, they investigate and learn that some mysteries are better left unsolved.Watched: March 8th 2015
My Opinions: Its nothing original and will be easily forgotten. It uses the same guidelines used by all paranormal movies... Scary girl in picture... All that good stuff. Its got scare or two, but that's it.
Verdict: D - DirectorRachel TalalayStarsLori PettyIce-TNaomi WattsA girl is among the few survivors of a dystopian Earth. Riding a war tank, she fights against the tyranny of a mega-corporation that dominates the remaining potable water supply of the planet.Watched: March 8th 2015
My Opinions: What the *beep* did I just watch. This is both good and bad. Sometimes i had fun watching this dumbass movie, and other times (Such as when that random musical sequence occurs) I was hitting my head against the wall in complete PAIN. The cast (Lori Petty in particular) seem to have fun in each of their hammy-wacky-weird characters... The dialogue (Lori Petty's mostly) is funny most of the time, but once or twice it misses the mark. The score and look of the film is good. Most of the time though the film just comes out as too over the top weird and cheesy and though I admire Lori Petty's enthusiasm that she gives off in her role, my admiration wore out after the hour mark.
Verdict: C- - DirectorRon HowardStarsDaniel BrühlChris HemsworthOlivia WildeThe merciless 1970s rivalry between Formula One rivals James Hunt and Niki Lauda.Watched: March 9th 2015
My Thoughts: Its a shame that this film didn't receive much awards consideration at the Academy Awards 2014. Its got excellent cinematography... (The racing sequences were extremely thrilling to watch), a slick visual sense, sharp dialogue and strong character development equally between Niki Lauda and James Hunt.... I also enjoyed the production values and the costume designs. Its another good Ron Howard film that unfortunately didn't get a Best Picture nomination that it should of got at the Academy Awards.
Verdict: B+ - DirectorSteve BarronStarsDan AykroydJane CurtinRobert KnottAliens with conical crania crash-land on Earth.Watched: March 10th 2015
My Thoughts: A guilty pleasure, mostly do to the fun performances from Dan Aykroyd and Jane Curtin who play off of each other's performances to good success. The concept is unique and funny, and some of the jokes work while others don't. Its a fun movie to just watch. Its not perfect but that doesn't matter that much.
Verdict: B- - DirectorJohn HughesStarsSteve MartinJohn CandyLaila RobinsA Chicago advertising man must struggle to travel home from New York for Thanksgiving, with a lovable oaf of a shower-curtain-ring salesman as his only companion.Watched: March 10th 2015
My Opinions: Its not as good as I thought it'd be, but its entertaining, and Steve Martin and the late John Candy are truly funny comedians who have fun with the dialogue, situations and characters they portray. The script and characters are noticeably good.
Verdict: B - DirectorRidley ScottStarsDemi MooreViggo MortensenAnne BancroftLt. Jordan, a US Navy topographic analyst, joins the US Navy Special Warfare Group and struggles to prove her worth in a unit dominated by men. But a cynical woman Texan senator has sold her out.Watched: March 11th and 12th 2015
My Opinions: I liked the score, and I liked Demi Moore's performance. The characters and story however is hit or miss. Some parts of the story is memorable, other moments (Such as the conclusion) are not. The characters are underwritten including Moore's. The film is mostly inconsistent dramatically.
Verdict: C+ - DirectorM. Night ShyamalanStarsSigourney WeaverWilliam HurtJoaquin PhoenixA series of events tests the beliefs of a small isolated countryside village.Watched: March 12th 2015
My Opinions: So-so bad. I absolutely suffered through this film. Its dull and boring, the performances are uninspired and amateur to say the least, the story is one note, and directing is really bad. Nobody knew what to do with this. This is by far one of the worst films I have seen in 2015 thus far. The script deserves to be torched because of how it develops these weird characters. That's the best I can say of them... Weird. Very-very weird, and not in a good way, in an annoying way. And the ending is one of the stupidest and biggest mind *beep* I have ever endured through.
Verdict: F - DirectorPeter JacksonStarsElijah WoodIan McKellenOrlando BloomA meek Hobbit from the Shire and eight companions set out on a journey to destroy the powerful One Ring and save Middle-earth from the Dark Lord Sauron.Watched: March 12th 2015
My Opinions: I don't know what to say about this film. I mean, its not bad but it isn't great either. The performances are enthusiastic and the production values are high, but the tone is inconsistent and the score unmemorable. I liked some aspects of the film, such as the editing and make up and visual effects but the story was hard to follow and the dialogue a bit hammy. It fails to hit me emotionally. I may end up rewatching the film and rethinking this.
Verdict: C - DirectorBrian De PalmaStarsTom CruiseJon VoightEmmanuelle BéartAn American agent, under false suspicion of disloyalty, must discover and expose the real spy without the help of his organization.Watched: March 12th 2015
My Opinions: Unique. The story itself isn't but the script keeps you watching. The cast is top notch but the characters underdeveloped. This is a very flawed movie with a good Tom Cruise performance. The middle half was very amusing and the plot twist at the end was somewhat rushed but nevertheless worthwhile but it would've worked better if the characters were more developed.
Verdict: B- - DirectorRenny HarlinStarsKellan LutzGaia WeissScott AdkinsThe origin story of the mythical Greek hero. Betrayed by his stepfather, the King, and exiled and sold into slavery because of a forbidden love, Hercules must use his formidable powers to fight his way back to his rightful kingdom.Watched: March 13th 2015
My Opinions: Cheap looking. The performances aren't that good and neither is the story or dialogue. Its your average January release, you get what you expect to get. There isn't that much to like about this film.
Verdict: D- - DirectorJohn WooStarsBen AffleckAaron EckhartUma ThurmanWhat seemed like a breezy idea that would net an engineer millions of dollars ends up leaving him on the run for his life and trying to piece together why he's being chased.Watched: March 14th 2015
My Opinions: I liked it. It did what it was meant to do, which is to entertain the viewer for a little while. Ben Affleck isn't believable but whatever, he has yet to redeem himself with Argo, Gone Girl, and The Town. I liked the action sequences, and the script.
Verdict: B- - DirectorRidley ScottStarsSigourney WeaverTom SkerrittJohn HurtThe crew of a commercial spacecraft encounters a deadly lifeform after investigating a mysterious transmission of unknown origin.Watched: March 15th 2015
My Opinions: Surprisingly enough, I had never seen the first Alien film, and now that I have I am not surprised by how it was. It was good. The set designs are a marvel, the script is original and so is the alien design itself. I liked the cast, even though character development is scarce and the dialogue is sometimes hard to hear near the beginning. It scares and wins my vote. Sigourney Weaver is a standout.
Verdict: A- - DirectorSeth MacFarlaneStarsMark WahlbergMila KunisSeth MacFarlaneJohn Bennett, a man whose childhood wish of bringing his teddy bear to life came true, now must decide between keeping the relationship with the bear, Ted or his girlfriend, Lori.Watched: March 19th 2015
My Opinions: A letdown. Not as funny as one might assume. It has heart, but its deflated by the vulgarity of the script. The jokes don't work, but just Mark Wahlberg, Mila Kunis, Giovanni Ribisi, and Seth McFarlene's amusing vocal performance as Ted make this watchable. It has its moments, inconsistently. Coulda been worse, but coulda been better.
Verdict: C- - DirectorAnthony RussoJoe RussoStarsChris EvansSamuel L. JacksonScarlett JohanssonAs Steve Rogers struggles to embrace his role in the modern world, he teams up with a fellow Avenger and S.H.I.E.L.D agent, Black Widow, to battle a new threat from history: an assassin known as the Winter Soldier.Watched: March 21st 2015
My Opinions: Good. Its a well written, well acted, visually stunning comic book adaption that scores points for its well chosen direction, and smart script (Even though its a bit overstuffed). I really did enjoy this film more on the second viewing then on the first.
Verdict: B - DirectorJames MangoldStarsRussell CroweChristian BaleBen FosterA small-time rancher agrees to hold a captured outlaw who's awaiting a train to go to court in Yuma. A battle of wills ensues as the outlaw tries to psych out the rancher.Watched: March 22nd 2015
My Opinions: It was good. I enjoyed the direction and performances.
Verdict: B - DirectorRoger MichellStarsBen AffleckSamuel L. JacksonKim StauntonA young lawyer and a businessman share a small automobile accident, and their mutual road rage escalates into a feud.Watched: March 22nd 2015
My Opinions: Ok, so, this film was made on the performances of the cast and the cast did just find. Sometimes I wished the script was more harsh then it was, but Samuel L Jackson gives a good performance as always, and the story keeps me interested, so i'm happy.
Verdict: C+ - DirectorRichard DonnerStarsBruce WillisYasiin BeyDavid MorseAn aging alcoholic cop is assigned the task of escorting a witness from police custody to a courthouse 16 blocks away. There are, however, chaotic forces at work that prevent them from making it in one piece.Watched: March 23rd 2015
My Opinions: David Morse and Bruce Willis give top notch performances in this thrilling film with good action and a solid script, though I wished Mos Def had toned down his accent, because some of his dialogue was hard to understand.
Verdict: B- - DirectorFrank OzStarsRobert De NiroEdward NortonMarlon BrandoAn aging thief hopes to retire and live off his ill-gotten wealth with his lover when a young kid convinces him into doing one last heist that comes with a large payout.Watched: March 24th 2015
My Opinions: Really good film. Solid casting, good directing and a fun script make this popcorn picture worth watching.
Verdict: B+ - DirectorLes MayfieldStarsSamuel L. JacksonEugene LevyMiguel FerrerSpecial Agent Derrick Vann is a man out to get the man who killed his partner, but a case of mistaken identity leads him to Andy Fiddler, a salesman with too many questions and a knack of getting in Vann's way.Watched: March 25th 2015
My Opinions: Just like 'Coneheads' this is a guilty pleasure that I watch often. It has a trademark for being one of the only films that I actually found funny. Thanks to a mostly funny script and Eugene Levy and Samuel l Jackson's chemistry, this is a fun movie to watch, even though the last 40 minutes or so aren't as funny as they could or should be. Its not great, but it makes me happy.
Verdict: B - DirectorStanley KubrickStarsMatthew ModineR. Lee ErmeyVincent D'OnofrioA pragmatic U.S. Marine observes the dehumanizing effects the Vietnam War has on his fellow recruits from their brutal boot camp training to the bloody street fighting in Hue.Watched: March 25th 2015
My Opinions: Where do I begin with this one, I had never seen this movie before this day that I write my opinions for it. I also must mention that before this movie, I had never seen a Stanley Kubrick directed movie. I did begin watching his 1960's film '2001: A Space Odyssey' but I turned it off 40 minutes in because I found it quite uncompelling and boring. This was not boring and this was compelling. The scenes of war are not shot with glory but with dread, the gore is horrifying and real, and the performances are raw and real, especially that of Vincent D'Onofrio and R. Lee Ermey both of whom unfortunately (SPOILER) are killed off at the half way mark. But no matter. I enjoyed the first half of the film (The bootcamp) because I found it to be much more harsh, gritty, and the most emotionally compelling... When the hour mark happens and we come to the war in Vietnam, I sort of lost interest a little, I didn't care as much. If Kubrick had simply shot more for the Bootcamp half of the movie, he could've just completely cut the second half of the movie out completely and just expand the beginning half which was really good. But whatever. The score was excellent and original, it kept me at the edge of my seat the entire time, and the cinematography and directing are excellent. The movie has top notch editing too.
Verdict: B- - DirectorGareth EdwardsStarsAaron Taylor-JohnsonElizabeth OlsenBryan CranstonThe world is beset by the appearance of monstrous creatures, but one of them may be the only one who can save humanity.Watched: March 26th 2015
My Opinions: What's unique about this film is that after every viewing I somehow dislike this movie a little more then I had before. The visuals are beautiful, and Gareth Edwards was an excellent choice for director, I loved his vision, to tease us a lot. I liked that. I didn't like the original 1998 Godzilla film, because it showed too much of Godzilla, and I didn't like that this film showed too little of Godzilla. Plus, the characters are undercooked and the performances weren't allowed to shine due to that fact. The film has tension and suspense, but the story itself is only so-so and so underdeveloped. But again, I found the script to be smart in that it did something most blockbusters don't do, restrains itself.
Verdict: B- - DirectorGeorge C. WolfeStarsHilary SwankEmmy RossumJosh DuhamelA drama centered on a classical pianist who has been diagnosed with ALS and the brash college student who becomes her caregiver.Watched: March 26th 2015
My Opinions: Story is unoriginal, and the film's a bit too sappy, but I liked Emmy Rossum and Hilary Swank.
Verdict: C - DirectorDavid O. RussellStarsBradley CooperJennifer LawrenceRobert De NiroAfter a stint in a mental institution, former teacher Pat Solitano moves back in with his parents and tries to reconcile with his ex-wife. Things get more challenging when Pat meets Tiffany, a mysterious girl with problems of her own.Watched: March 26th 2015
My Opinions: I really like this movie, and it stands as my favorite Jennifer Lawrence performance. The chemistry between her and our perfect lead actor Bradley Cooper is stunning and the story is top notch. I loved the characters, the cast, and the dialogue and editing. Excellent film.
Verdict: A- - DirectorJon AmielStarsAaron EckhartHilary SwankDelroy LindoThe only way to save Earth from catastrophe is to drill down to the core and set it spinning again.Watched: March 26th 2015
My Opinions: Ok, so if you can get past the sheer stupidity of the film's scientific logic, (I mean, there is no way in hell the core would stop spinning, plus, there is no way in hell that these guys would be able to get as far down to the core as they did.) What i'm saying is that if you can get past the stupidity, you can embrace the dumb fun. If your bored, this'll entertain, that's what I'm trying to say. So, is it a good movie? No, but is it an OK movie? Sure, why not. Any movie that can entertain a person is an OK movie, but what makes a movie GREAT is that it can both be entertaining and make sense, and this doesn't make sense, so its only OK. Plus: Stanley Tucci
Verdict: C+ - DirectorMike NewellStarsAl PacinoJohnny DeppMichael MadsenAn FBI undercover agent infiltrates the mob and finds himself identifying more with the Mafia life--at the expense of his regular one.Watched: March 27th 2015
My Opinion: This is my second favorite Johnny Depp performance (Behind Pirates of the Carribean) and is one of my favorite gangster movies, just based on the performances. The story is good, but it could've been more (Especially in the last 30 minutes) but addition points for the top notch dialogue.
Verdict: B- - DirectorPhil Alden RobinsonStarsRobin WilliamsMila KunisPeter DinklageA perpetually angry man is informed he has 90 minutes to live and promptly sets out to reconcile with his family and friends in the short time he has left.Watched: March 27th 2015
My Opinions: This was the last Robin Williams film released BEFORE his death, and it stands to be one of his worst. I was bored the entire time the movie played. It was dull, annoying and unfunny and Robin Williams didn't seem to have much of a good time either when he gave us this bland performance as an angry man.
Verdict: D- - DirectorFrancis LawrenceStarsJennifer LawrenceJosh HutchersonLiam HemsworthKatniss Everdeen is in District 13 after she shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta and a nation moved by her courage.Watched: March 28th 2015
My Opinions: Underwelming, and it never hits the right keys. Its always off centered, unfocused. Its so filler and unexciting. It features no worthwhile moments and it feels like a set up with no payoff. Its a beginning with no middle or end... Its not good. Its got nothing to remark about. The script again gives us lackluster character development but Julianna Moore and Josh Hutcherson (In a bit part) give excellent performances and the visual effects are vastly better then the previous films. This film doesn't leave me excited for Part 2.
Verdict: C- (Possibly D+)
