Born in Habana, Cuba, Ana María Polo is the host of renowned Telemundo show "Caso Cerrado", the first Spanish language program nominated for a Daytime Entertainment Emmy® Award, and in 2015 ranked as the number one Spanish-language program at 4pm across key demos. The great success garnered by "Caso Cerrado" motivated Telemundo to bet once again on Polo's talent and last year launched "Caso Cerrado Edición Estelar" (Case Closed Primetime Edition) (M-F 7PM). The program, which premiered in high definition format, allows viewers to witness the popular show's most extraordinary cases and disputes, presented with the same dynamism and energy by which it is characterized.
With more than 20 years of experience as a lawyer, Polo became known to television audiences in 2001 on Telemundo's program "Sala de Parejas" (Couples' Room), where she quickly won over the hearts of viewers. In 2005, "Sala de Parejas" became "Caso Cerrado con la Dra. Ana Maria Polo" (Case Closed with Dr. Ana Maria Polo) (M-F 4PM), a program highlighting lawsuits and legal situations. In addition to hosting the show, Polo also composed and interpreted the theme song of the program, and during the last 10 years she has maintained an undivided connection with the Hispanic community from coast to coast.
In 2010 Polo also launched "Persiguiendo Injusticias"(Pursuing Injustices), an original program that incorporates a new, never before seen format in Hispanic television; and that with the help of the community seeks to go after and help solve crimes that have gone unpunished. This same year she launched her first book, entitled "Querida Dra. Polo Las cartas secretas de Caso Cerrado"(Dear Dr. Polo: The Secret Letters of Cased Closed), based on the letters that were sent to the renowned attorney by television viewers; and which narrate the secret underworld life of thousands of individuals who can no longer distinguish between good and evil. Since its launch on November 2, 2010, the book has been a huge success, maintaining second place in popularity lists in addition to completely selling out its first edition.
During 2011 Polo was honored with the Mickey Leland Humanitarian Achievement Award that honors individuals and organizations affiliated with the communications industry which demonstrate a humanitarian commitment. To close 2011, Polo was named the first Hispanic ambassador for Stand Up To Cancer, joining an esteemed list of national and international celebrity supporters of the initiative, which raises awareness and funds for collaborative cancer research.
As a breast cancer survivor, Polo has become a fighting role model for many women, and works with different organizations that fight to find a cure to this disease. Her commitment to the Hispanic community has also prompted her involvement with various topics of importance to her, including the fight for human rights and against discrimination. On November of 2014 Ana Maria Polo was invited by the Human Rights Organization to participate on their Americans for Marriage Equality video campaign, the first one released with a Hispanic personality, both in Spanish and English.
Before her formal start in television, Polo practiced her profession as a lawyer for more than 20 years in the city of Miami, where she tended to cases of divorce, adoptions, paternities, custodies, child support, alimonies, and domestic violence. She also participated as an expert lawyer in various television programs, such as The Maria Laria Talk Show,
The Cristina Show, and America en Vivo, among others. Polo graduated with a degree in political science from Florida International University and a PhD in law from the University of Miami.- Actress

Anton Szandor LaVey was born April 11, 1930 to Joseph and Augusta LaVey. His father was a liquor salesman. They soon moved to the San Francisco, California area. The name LaVey came from an immigrant ancestor who in passing through Ellis Island was given the name of his place of origin, Levey, France. Known as Tony, he showed early musical talent, and received musical training. He was always an outsider. He left home after an incident where another youth knifed his face and Tony fought back. He joined circuses and carnivals, learned carny jobs and to play the calliope. He knew Clyde Beatty and Tim McCoy. He played organ for burlesque, and had a short affair with Marilyn Monroe. He left Los Angeles and returned to San Francisco where he continued as an organist and became a police photographer. He married Carole and started his Magic Circle meetings. He later left Carole for even more beautiful Diane. There is a tape circulating of an episode of the local TV program "The Wonderful World of Brother Buzz", narrated by Pat MacCormick, which centers on LaVey's lion Togare, but also shows the life of his "wonderful normal family" with wife Diane, and daughters Karla (by first wife Carole) and Zeena, as well as many animals, who lived in the soon to be famous Black House. At that time Anton was a psychic investigator. He and Diane founded the Church of Satan as a partnership in 1966. It was the world's first openly acknowledged Satanic Church. Anton was spokesman and still remains the very image of Satan and Satanism. High Priestess Diane LaVey was equally Satanic but performed the role of good wife and church administrator. Soon followed the first public Satanic wedding, then a first baptism (for their daughter Zeena) and first Satanic funeral. This period of public rituals, about 1967-70, generated intense worldwide publicity and growth in membership. The movie Satanis: The Devil's Mass (1970) allowed Anton to espouse many of his views, and shows the church at that time. The LaVey's associated with many famous and accomplished people, particularly actors, writers and circus people. Among them were Jayne Mansfield, Sammy Davis Jr., Kenneth Anger, Forrest J. Ackerman, Joseph Cotten, Barbara McNair, Elke Sommer, Keenan Wynn, and directors Milo O. Frank Jr. and Robert Fuest. Anton authored several well-known books on Satanism and witchcraft. Most of what he's told about himself is true as he saw it through his own biases, although he did not tell all. It was NOT a "self-created legend" as charged by critics. As with many '60s celebrities who were private people there was a burnout factor. Press distortion, harassment from many quarters, including gunshots, vandalism and pestering fans caused him to withdraw from most public activities in his last 20 years. Speak of the Devil (1993) once again gave him a chance to express his views on film. He had a son Xerxes with his last companion and successor to the church leadership, Blanche Barton. He was able to spend some time with his grandson, Zeena's son Stanton LaVey. Many fascinating details of his life are still unknown to the public, and some points have been argued back and forth by those who do not know.
There is much to be learned about his activities with Jayne Mansfield and Sammy Davis Jr., and the making of The Devil's Rain (1975) with Director Fuest and William Shatner, John Travolta, Tom Skerritt, Ernest Borgnine and others. He was a kindly man, who was particularly protective of animals and children, but as a human also had a dark side. Being physically strong he almost killed once or twice with his bare hands. He was philosophically an outlaw and heretic. His influence remains great. He was a multi-talented, elitist, private person. He held on to much from the past, yet was also ahead of his time, a forerunner of among other things heavy-metal, Satanic rock, vampire and goth cultures.- Actress

- Cult figure who will forever be remembered as Ben, the resourceful, yet ill-fated hero of George A. Romero's low-budget zombie film Night of the Living Dead (1968). Jones was a former English professor who directed at the Maguire Theater at the Old Westbury campus of New York State University, and he additionally served as artistic director at the Richard Allen Center in New York City. His casting as the hero of the Romero film was unique, as it was the first occasion that an African-American actor had portrayed the hero in a horror film. The tall, talented Jones appeared in a handful of other B-grade horror movies such as Ganja & Hess (1973) and Vampires (1986), but none are remembered as well as his first on-screen role.

He is an 8-time NWA Heavyweight Champion and has held numerous other titles over his career that has spanned four decades.
Harley won his first NWA World Title in Kansas City in 1973 when he defeated Dory Funk Jr. Harley feels that this was the best match of his whole career as Funk had held the title for more that four years, so winning it made the moment all the more special.
In addition to bloody rivalries with both Dory Funk Jr. and Terry Funk, Harley has worked great programs with other wrestling legends as Dusty Rhodes, Bruiser Brody, Dick the Bruiser and Ric Flair. Like how Harley had wrestled long time champion Dory Funk Jr. to his first heavyweight title, it was Ric Flair who defeated long time champion Harley to win his first heavyweight title.
Race reportedly has wrestled in every country in the world, with the exceptions of Russia and Communist China. Race is particularly revered in Japan, having made over 60 trips there during his career.
Towards the end of his in-ring wrestling career, Harley went to work for the WWF (now WWE) and became know as "The King" Harley Race. Harley feuded with "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan and Hulk Hogan, but one of his most memorable matches as against the late Junk Yard Dog at Wrestlemania III in front of over 90,000 people. Harley also once won one of the WWF's first King of the Ring tournaments. During his time in the WWF, Harley was managed by "The Brain" Bobby Heenan.
Harley left the WWF and went back to the NWA, which was now known as WCW. He had retired from the ring and had now begun managing. He managed the Kolassal Kongs, The Super Invader, Yoshi Kwan, Vinnie Vegas (Kevin Nash), Mr. Hughes and he managed both Lex Luger and Big Van Vader to the WCW World Heavyweight championship.
In 1994, Harley retired from the ring, and came back home to Kansas City. In the summer of 1999, Harley Race founded World League Wrestling. Harley was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame on March 13, 2004 and to the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame on May 15, 2004. - Actor

Getting his start in the movie business in Universal's contract and playdate department in New York City, Howard W. Koch moved on to 20th Century-Fox as a film librarian and then entered production as second assistant director on The Keys of the Kingdom (1944). After many films as assistant director, Koch joined forces with his professional benefactor Aubrey Schenck and Edwin F. Zabel to strike a three-picture production deal with United Artists that was to start with the western War Paint (1953). The success of these pictures opened up the deal for more UA films by Koch, Schenck and Zabel (Bel-Air Productions). With Schenck, Koch produced TV's Miami Undercover (1961) and also worked as a director on such series as Maverick (1957), Hawaiian Eye (1959), Cheyenne (1955) and The Untouchables (1959). From 1961 to 1964 Koch was vice-president in charge of production for Sinatra Enterprises; among his many executive-producer credits during this period was the chilling The Manchurian Candidate (1962). - Charles Jason Baldwin was born April 11, 1977. Jason Baldwin, along with Damien Echols and Jessie Misskelley, Jr. are known as The West Memphis Three, who are three men convicted in 1994 of the murders of three 8 year old boys, in West Memphis, Arkansas, in 1993. Many people, including some famous celebrities and musicians, believe that the West Memphis Three are innocent, and have raised funds to support their trials, and have filmed several documentaries on this case. On March 19,1994 Baldwin and Echols, who were tried together, were found guilty on three counts of murder. Echols was sentenced to death and Baldwin to life in prison (Misskelley has been sentenced to life plus 40 years, in a separate trial, earlier in the year) In 2007, DNA collected from the crime scene was tested. None was found to match DNA from Echols, Baldwin, nor Misskelley. On August 19, 2011, after over 18 years in prison, the men filed an Alford plea deal. Baldwin pled guilty to three counts of first degree murder while still asserting his actual innocence. At first Baldwin was resistant to this deal, insisting that he would not plead guilty to something he didn't do. But, he worried that if he refused the deal Damien Echols would have stayed on death row. After accepting the deal, all three men were sentenced to time served, and they were given a 10 year Suspended Imposition of Sentence, meaning if they re-offend they can be sent back to prison for 21 years. After being released from prison Jason moved to Seattle and was in a relationship with a woman he met while in prison. Although he is working for a construction company, Jason hopes to go to college to become a lawyer and help the wrongfully convicted.

Jill Viola Gascoine was born in Lambeth, London, on April 11 1937. She was educated at Tiffin's Girls School (by her own account, a traumatic experience) and later studied at the Italia Conti Academy of Performing Arts in London. She began her career as a fifteen-year old chorine in pantomime and spent a decade-long apprenticeship singing and dancing in revues and musicals. Married at 28, her first husband was a compulsive gambler who also resented her ambition of becoming an actress and abandoned her and her two children some time during the late 60s. Having to support her family on a single income, Gascoine found work in Glasgow cabaret as a singer and dancer. She was eventually able to get into acting with a repertory company in Dundee and from there (with the aid of theatrical agent Marina Martin) landed parts in popular television dramas including Dr. Finlay's Casebook (1962), Dixon of Dock Green (1955), Softly Softly: Task Force (1969) and Raffles (1975).
Her first recurring TV role was as Letty, the prim, philanthropically-minded wife of taciturn sea captain James Onedin (Peter Gilmore) in The Onedin Line (1971). However, she ultimately became best-known for her role as the emancipated, forthright DI Maggie Forbes in the ITV series The Gentle Touch (1980), the very first British police drama featuring a female (senior) police officer. The concept may well have been inspired by the earlier American series Police Woman (1974). Publicity claimed that London 'bobbies' wrote to the producers of Gentle Touch, attesting to its authenticity (interesting footnote: the reason why there was never any footage of Maggie actually driving a car was that Gascoine had never learned to drive). There was a later, more action-oriented spin-off, entitled C.A.T.S. Eyes (1985) (akin to a British Charlie's Angels (1976)), with Maggie turned private eye.
In addition to her television work, the actress also performed on the West End stage, including a starring role as Dorothy Brock in a 1987 revival of the musical 42nd Street at The Theatre Royal, Drury Lane. Her younger co-star (as Peggy Sawyer) was Catherine Zeta-Jones. In 1986, Gascoine married fellow London-born actor Alfred Molina and in the 90s made her home in Los Angeles, though she returned to the U.K. on a number of occasions. As her screen work began to wind down, she turned to writing, publishing a trio of novels, respectively, in 1995, 1995 and 1997. Gascoine made an appearance at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2008, whereupon she announced her retirement from acting. Five years later, it was revealed that she had been diagnosed with Alzheimer's Disease. She died at a Los Angeles care facility on 28 April 2020 at the age of 83.- Actor

Joel Grey's father, Mickey Katz, created "Borscht Capades" in the early 1950s. Mickey Katz was a musician -- a clarinetist and a saxophone player -- in bands around the east. Mickey was performing, playing in a band in Cleveland, Ohio, which is where Joel Grey was born. Musician and bandleader Spike Jones needed a clarinet player who could do bits, funny things. Mickey went on the road with Jones' band for about a year, the Katz family ending up, as the band all went to California.
One day his father Mickey was doing a recording session at the Sunset Boulevard RCA-Victor recording studio in Hollywood, and during a break, Mickey always wrote parodies to pop songs for fun and had just written this parody -- he was singing it to one of the other Jewish musicians. Unbeknownst to him the microphone was open in the control room and this group of non-Jewish, white-bread heads of RCA-Victor were sitting there and he's singing a Yiddish song. They didn't know what he was singing but they were laughing and laughing and they decided to record it. The recording became an enormous hit. The records were so successful Mickey put together a variety show that sold out every week in Los Angels at the Wilshire Ebell Theater. Joel knew, even at 9, that he was going to become an actor. When his father had this variety show, Joel said, "How can I be in it?" And his father said, "Well, what do you want to do?" Joel replied, "I don't know how to sing and I don't dance, but I'll run around and I'll move."
So Joel's aunt dropped him a song that was a big record in New York, a Yiddish song -- it was a million words and very fast and it was very popular with the audience -- and Joel learned it by rote. Joel had no idea what he was saying or singing and the next thing he knew, he was boxed in to being a song-and-dance man as opposed to an actor. "Romania, Romania." The song was like a Danny Kaye spectacular, fast, patter song that left a lot of room to dance and sing and mug and do all the things like his hero at the time -- Jerry Lewis. Maybe two years, Eddie Cantor saw Joel in Florida and put him on his "Colgate Comedy Hour' television show, and that was the end of the "Borscht Capades" for Joel, and the beginning of Joel's long tenure in night clubs all over the country.- John Larkin was born on 11 April 1912 in Oakland, California, USA. Johnny Messner was born on 11 April 1970 in Syracuse, New York, USA. He is an actor and producer, known for Running Scared (2006), Tears of the Sun (2003) and Spartan (2004).- His father was the actor Reginald Sheffield who began as a child star and later turned to character acting. Johnny appeared at age seven on Broadway in the original cast of "On Borrowed Time". When Maureen O'Sullivan wanted out of her Jane role in the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan series, it was decided that she and Tarzan would adopt a son (they had to adopt, according to the Legion of Decency, because they weren't married) before she died. Weissmuller personally chose Sheffield for the part of Boy, a part inspired by Bobby Nelson's portrayal in Tarzan the Mighty (1928); athletic by nature, he was taught to swim by swimming Olympian Weissmuller. Tarzan Finds a Son! (1939) was such a success that MGM signed Sheffield to six more films as Tarzan's Boy. By the time of Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948), he was too big for the part; the film merely said he was away at school. When Monogram Studios learned he had been dropped, they picked him up for the series of movies based on the Roy Rockwood Bomba: The Jungle Boy (1949) movies. He made twelve of these between 1949 and 1955.

In 2012, her net worth was estimated to be 10 million, making her the fifth richest British musician under 30. The Soul Sessions Vol. 2 (2012) is her fourth consecutive album to reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200.
Joscelyn Eve Stone was born on 11 April 1987 at Buckland Hospital in Dover, Kent and spent her teenage years in Ashill, a small pastoral village near Cullompton in Devon. She is the third of four children born to Wendy (Skillin) and Richard Stoker. Her father owns a fruit and nut import-export business; her mother worked as Stone's manager until October 2004. Stone made her first public appearance at the Uffculme Comprehensive School-which she attended-in Uffculme, Devon, with a cover version of Jackie Wilson's 1957 song "Reet Petite". Stone has dyslexia and left school at age sixteen with only three GCSE qualifications. "It wasn't that I was stupid. I'm just a little bit dyslexic and I wasn't very academic. I'm more artistic", she says. Stone grew up listening to a wide variety of music including 1960s and 1970s American R&B and soul music performed by such artists as Dusty Springfield and Aretha Franklin. As a result, she developed a soulful style of singing like her idols. "My first CD that I owned was Aretha Franklin: Greatest Hits. And I saw the advert on TV and it was just like little clips of her songs. I had no idea who she was-I was only like 10 so. I said, 'Oh yeah, that looks really good', so I wrote it down and I said to my mum, 'Can I have that for Christmas?' So she told my friend Dennis, who always gets me good music anyway, and he got that for me. So that was one of my first albums that I loved."
She would later tell MTV News: "I kind of clicked into soul music more than anything else because of the vocals. You've got to have good vocals to sing soul music and I always liked it ever since I was little." Stone possesses the vocal range of a mezzo-soprano and contralto. She's famous for performing barefoot and has been described as "the white Aretha Franklin" since her debut in music industry. However, Stone was the subject of some contention in the United States, where her audience expected soul artists to have been born in poverty and have had a rough and painful life in order to sing soul music due to its emotional nature. People also expected someone with a voice like hers to be black. In 2004, Stone began dating Beau Dozier, with whom she co-wrote the song "Spoiled". Dozier is the son of Motown producer Lamont Dozier, who is best known as part of Holland-Dozier-Holland. The couple ended their relationship in November 2005.
In a 2016 interview, Stone revealed that she was in a relationship with music promoter SiChai for three years. Stone is a lifelong vegetarian, and has taken part in various campaigns for animal rights group PETA, Stone also owns a number of rescue dogs.- Actress

Accomplished dancer, singer and now, actor, Kaitlyn Jenkins is one of those lucky individuals who has beat the odds with her incredible triple threat talents and joined ABC Family's new series Bunheads.
At the age of thirteen, after listening to Kaitlyn's persistent pleas, her mother enrolled her in a local acting class. Kaitlyn's mother, Kathleen Hall Jenkins, was also a professional ballet dancer who studied at the esteemed Joffrey Ballet School in NYC and later wen on to dance professionally with the Pacific Northwest Ballet and the Los Angeles Ballet. Kathleen had an early influence on Kaitlyn's career as a dancer, enrolling her in creative movement classes at age three at the studio where she taught. While Kaitlyn was already showing strong talent as a dancer and had transitioned into a full time classical ballet-training program, she loved her acting classes and showed great enthusiasm and talent for what she was learning. Wanting to expand her acting and vocal abilities, Kaitlyn auditioned and was cast as an ensemble member in a children's musical production of "The Wizard of Oz."
As high school approached, Kaitlyn auditioned for the prestigious "Orange County High School of the Arts" in Santa Ana, California, and was accepted into both the Classical Dance and the Music and Theatre conservatories. She chose to pursue the Music and Theatre conservatory, but continued to pursue her acting career, and began auditioning for film, television, and commercial projects. She soon booked her first audition, which was for a Nintendo Wii commercial. Since then, Kaitlyn has booked over twenty feature length, short, and student films as well as commercials and television projects. One of these projects, In Small Places, which was an OCHSA student film, garnered her a "Best Actress" award at the Temecula Film Festival for her role as a silent, young girl. Before graduating OCHSA in 2010, she performed the role of the "American Queen" in the school musical "Chess" where she was presented the "M.A.C.Y. Award for Outstanding Special Achievement in a Musical."
During Kaitlyn's time studying acting, she also studied and performed as a trainee ballet company member with the Anaheim Ballet, performing leading roles in The Nutcracker as well as other company repertoire and school performances. She participated in the "Youth America Grand Prix" ballet competition for five consecutive years, receiving regional top twelve honors in 2009 for her Contemporary piece, and again in 2010 for both the Contemporary and Classical categories. Kaitlyn's extensive training also consists of time spent with the American Ballet Theatre in New York, the Boston Ballet, Katsbaan, and The Jillana School. She has danced in several full length ballets including A Midsummer Night's Dream, Alice in Wonderland, and Sleeping Beauty and has also danced excerpts from Romeo & Juliet and Swan Lake to name a few.
Now working on the ABC Family series Bunheads, the new show from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, the show premieres in June, and is a coming of age story that centers on the life of a Las Vegas dancer, Michelle, who begins to teach ballet to four little "bunheads" in suburban California. Kaitlyn stars as Bettina Jordan, one of Michelle's precocious students.
While Kaitlyn specializes in Ballet and Contemporary dance, she can perform a broad range of styles including HIp Hop, Tap, Jazz, Ballroom, and Club/Freestyle. In her free time Kaitlyn enjoys working out at the gym, swimming, taking stage combat, and horseback riding. She loves animals and is a pet owner of a cat and two dogs.- Actress, born in Northern Kentucky on April 11, 1947. The first born daughter out of five children born to Thomas and Martha Katherine Walsh. From the moment of birth, Kathy was not only beautiful and brilliant, but she had a confidence unlike that of most newborns. She was exceptionally talented and wickedly witty. Kathy always knew that she wanted to be an actress. From the time her siblings were old enough, Kathy would write, direct and of course star in plays for any and all family parties. Her first starring role was in "Alice in Wonderland" at the Villa Madonna Academy. Kathy was the perfect Alice.
In 1963, her mother temporarily moved to Beverly Hills with three dogs and four of the five children: Kath, Timmy, Sharon Ann, and Denis. Kath quickly established herself and and was signed with the William Morris Agency. Katherine had also signed a Hollywood contract with Columbia pictures.
In 1965, while studying at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England, She learned of the tragic death of her father in an American Airlines Boeing 727 jet that crashed upon landing at Northern Kentucky's Greater Cincinnati Airport. With strength, courage and love it was Kathy who, at only eighteen years of age, brought joy back into the Walsh family.
That was short lived, because on the 7 of October, 1970, the news of Katherine Victoria Walsh's mysterious death in London, England devastated her mother. Within ten years, Martha Katherine Walsh died at age 62.

A California native, Kelli Garner made her film debut at age sixteen in director Mike Mills' short film Architecture of Reassurance. Her performance captured the attention of director Larry Clark who cast her in her first feature film, as the drug-addicted teen, Heather Swallers, in the controversial docudrama Bully, establishing Kelli as an edgy young talent. After honing in on her unique chameleon like skills in more independent film, the fiery young actor earned a part as the 1940's Hollywood ingénue, Faith Domergue, in Martin Scorsese's The Aviator, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio. Soon after, she reunited with Mike Mills for his 2005 Sundance hit Thumbsucker, and further proved her ability to shine in comedy, with her first leading roles, starring opposite Tommy Lee Jones in Man of the House as well as the quirky and off beat comedy Lars and the Real Girl, opposite Ryan Gosling.
On the television side, Garner most recently starred as Kate Ryan on NBC's The Enemy Within opposite Jennifer Carpenter and Morris Chestnut and gave a knockout performance per Variety as Norma Jean /Marilyn Monroe in LIfetime's event drama, The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe, also starring Susan Sarandon. Garner co-starred in ABC's 1960's airline drama, Pan Am, opposite Christina Ricci , cementing her throwback, vintage appeal, along the way.
In both film and television Kelli has continued to disappear into role after role, leaving us with raw, honest and heartbreaking performances.
Some other notable roles include, Ang Lee's Taking Woodstock and Alex Aja's Horn's with Daniel Radcliffe

- Lee Sheriden was born on 11 April 1949 in Bristol, England, UK.
- Leonard Mudie was a stalwart acting veteran who made nearly 150 appearances before the camera. He was from the Midlands of England and began on stage in 1908 at the Gaiety Theater (1884-1959) in Manchester. This was the first regional repertory theater in England and well noted for the spectrum of plays produced and the patronage of new plays by local writers. Mudie was well accomplished when he came to America and Broadway in 1914, where he first appeared in the original play "Consequences". He was active there off and on through 1948 in some twenty-five roles. Later in 1921 Mudie was lured to Hollywood and silent films, sampled two for a year and then returned to Broadway. But after late 1931 Mudie returned to Hollywood, not to return to the Great White Way until his last appearance in 1948. Hollywood sound era could use his efficient, somewhat nasal British intonation and did - profusely. He managed to appear as at least a featured extra - not always with lines - in many of the great and historic films of the mid 1930s. About half his roles to 1946 were uncredited, but his was a steady voice of realism in whatever the part: stiff British official, doctor, lawyer - lots of judges - but also many an everyman role. In 1935 alone he was in thirteen films. And in one of these he was a particularly noteworthy judge. Warner Bros. was gambling on a dashing but relatively untried and unknown Australian (well Tasmanian) actor named Errol Flynn for a hoped hit remake version of the Rafael Sabatini novel Captain Blood (1935). Production was combing Hollywood for character actors for the huge cast, and Mudie was picked for one of the most villainous yet historical characters of the film, Chief Judge George Jeffreys, Baron of Wem, the "Hanging Judge", who presided over the "Bloody Assizes", the wholesale trials of the followers of the Duke of Monmouth's Rebellion at the beginning of the film. Flynn's first big dramatic scene is his confrontation with Jeffreys, bewigged and looking ashen with the kidney disease killing him. It is a great scene with great lines for both actors. Mudie was busy with over ten roles per year from 1937 thru 1941 before he began to slow down, age bringing about fewer character roles -- four or so per annum in the ensuing years. He had a somewhat prophetic line playing an old traditional actor Horace Karlos in a Charlie Chan whodunit The Scarlet Clue (1945) when he makes a reference to appearing in the still infant television as "Well, it's a living!" Indeed by 1953 Mudie got his feet wet in TV, and by later 1955 he was more a fixture of that medium than film and visiting all the varied series with a full sprinkling of character roles-including judges. In fact in the super cast of Hollywood who's who in the film The Story of Mankind (1957), he was the Chief Inquisitor for the cosmic aliens putting humanity on trial. That bit of fantasy was director by future sci-fi and underwater adventure showman Irwin Allen. He finished off his long, busy life with a few more TV roles at 82 - it certainly was a living.

Born on April 11, 1939, New York City born and bred Louise (Marie) Lasser was the daughter of Jewish author tax specialist Sol J. Lasser. Living a childhood of privilege and having a prestigious education, the eccentric comedy actress lightened things up considerably in her own household despite her mother Paula's mental instability. Tragic circumstances occurred when her mother, whom Louise saved once, committed suicide following the breakup of her marriage. Her father would also take his own life years later.
A political science major at Brandeis University, Louise first won notice singing in Greenwich Village dives, improvisational revues and on Broadway in the early 1960s. In 1962, Louise understudied Barbra Streisand as Miss Marmelstein in "I Can Get It for You Wholesale. Lasser was also the first woman to win a Clio Award for Best Actress in a 1967 commercial for Florida Orange Juice.
Arguably best known as the second Mrs. Woody Allen, Louise, known for her lethargic comedy presence, made her TV debut in a failed comedy pilot entitled The Laughmakers (1962), one of Allen's forays into the medium. She also made a brief, uncredited appearance as a masseuse in film What's New Pussycat (1965) and had a voiceover in What's Up, Tiger Lily? (1966). Marrying Woody on February 2, 1966, Louise went on to co-star with the comic master, earning a comedy name for herself in several of his other inaugural farcical romps -- particularly Take the Money and Run (1969), Bananas (1971) and Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex * But Were Afraid to Ask (1972). On Broadway, she appeared in "Henry, Sweet Henry" (1967), "The Chinese and Dr. Fish" (1970) and as a replacement in the comedy "Thieves" (1974).
Following the end of her four-year marriage to Woody, Louise struck out on her own. On TV, she appeared to good advantage in guest episodes of "Love, American Style," "The Mary Tyler Moore Show," "The Bob Newhart Show," "McCloud" and "Medical Center." On film, she appeared in the dramedy Such Good Friends (1971) and the crime comedy thriller Slither (1973).
After appearing in the lightweight TV-movie Coffee, Tea or Me? (1973) with fresh-faced starring performances from Karen Valentine and John Davidson, and offering a kookier supporting perf as a police station receptionist opposite Alan Alda in the dark comedy murder mystery Isn't It Shocking? (1973), Louise hit major cult status as the enervated, beleaguered, pig-tailed, titular housewife/heroine of the bizarre Norman Lear nighttime soap satire Mary Hartman, Mary Hartman (1976). It was here that Louise buffed up beautifully her deadpan neurotic comedy persona. The program's pilot was nominated for an Emmy and Louise herself for "Classification of Outstanding Program and Individual Achievement."
The syndicated show certainly had it's own soap opera-styled problems on the set. In July of 1976, she was asked to host a first season episode of "Saturday Night Live." It was said that Louise's erratic behavior was highly difficult to work with in sketches. That same year, she was also arrested after police discovered cocaine in her purse at a boutique store. She was ordered to six months of counseling. With the pressures of television mounting, the star decided to leave the show in 1977 (the series had her character suddenly leaving town and husband with no notice), and the series was re-titled "Forever Fernwood."
Following her "Mary Hartman" departure, Louise appeared on stage in productions of Marie and Bruce" (1980) followed by "A Couple of a White Chicks Sitting Around Talking." She also attempted another ensemble comedy series with the all-female show It's a Living (1980) as waitress Maggie but, once again, left the show after only one season. She also had a recurring neurotic role on the popular medical show St. Elsewhere (1982).
Elsewhere, Louise went on to co-star with the equally neurotic Charles Grodin in the offbeat romantic TV-movie comedy Just Me and You (1978). On film, she made a brief cameo in ex-husband Woody Allen's film dramedy Stardust Memories (1980), appeared as a hooker with a heart of gold in star/director/co-writer Marty Feldman's comedy In God We Trust (or Gimme That Prime Time Religion) (1980), and was a prime focus in the wacky Coen Brothers crime comedy Crimewave (1985). She headed the cast as the mother of good/evil twins in the slasher flick Blood Rage (1987), was featured in the Sally Field/Michael Caine romantic comedy Surrender (1987), and was fourth-billed in the teen drama Sing (1989). She finished off the decade in Cheech Marin's hippie comedy Rude Awakening (1989) as an aging drug customer(!)
The weird and wacky continued with an assortment of off-kiltered characters in independent films. She appeared in the bizarre sci-fi horror Frankenhooker (1990); played Robby Benson's mom in the comedy Modern Love (1990), also written and directed by Benson; and played Jeremy Piven's mom in another comedy Layin' Low (1996). She was also featured in the films Sudden Manhattan (1996), Happiness (1998) and Mystery Men (1999).
Into the millennium, she enjoyed a romantic subplot in the film Fast Food Fast Women (2000), portrayed a retired gangster lady in Queenie in Love (2001), played a landlady in the horror opus Wolves of Wall Street (2002). She and Renée Taylor played "wealthy" sisters married to losers in the poorly-reviewed comedy Gold Diggers (2003), and appeared with Ms. Taylor again in the romantic comedy Driving Me Crazy: Proof of Concept (2012)
More recently seen on TV episodes of "CSI" and "Girls," Louise was once an acting technique teacher with Herbert Berghof's HB Studio. She eventually set up her own acting establishment, the Louise Lasser Acting Studio, on New York City's Upper East Side. In 2014, she directed the Off-Off-Broadway production of "Chinese Coffee." She never remarried after divorcing the Wood Man.- Actor
