Catherine Smyth-McMullen is an award-winning film and tv screenwriter, with a focus on genre.
Catherine's feature The Other Lamb held its world premiere at TIFF 2019 as a Special Presentation, garnering rave reviews - The Hollywood Reporter calling it "a visionary tale... that hits the sweet spot between The Handmaid's Tale and cult horror" and Slash Film praising it as "a fierce and striking depiction of resiliency... a screenplay that possesses a poignant relevancy which has reverberated throughout history."
The Other Lamb screened in competition at BFI London and San Sebastian, as well as at acclaimed genre-festival Fantastic Fest. The script was previously on the 2017 Black List, The Hit List, and The Blood List as one of the year's best unproduced scripts, and was nominated for an Australian Writers Guild Award for 'Best Feature Adaptation'. Produced by Rumble Films' Stephanie Wilcox and David Lancaster (Drive, Whiplash, Nightcrawler), IFC Midnight released the film theatrically and digitally in 2020.
Catherine has sold and set-up pilots with SyFy, Warner Bros., Netflix, AMC and eOne. She was a writer on the first season of Neil Gaiman's acclaimed comic The Sandman for Netflix, writing the acclaimed anthology episode 'Dream Of A Thousand Cats / Calliope'. She was a writer and consulting producer on Two Sentence Horror Stories for The CW, writing the premiere episode 'Gentleman', and the sixth episode 'Tutorial'.
Catherine has also worked extensively in Australian rooms and development as a writer, script editor and script producer. She was a writer on the second season of the award-winning Australian drama series Bloom. Her original digital short Parked was produced by Princess Pictures, and funded by Screen Australia and YouTube.
Catherine's work has won or been shortlisted for many other national and international awards. Her pilot Awake won one of science-fiction's top honors, the John Hinde Award from the Australian Writers' Guild. She won the Ustinov Award for Television Writing from the International Emmys for her pilot Living Metal, which was also nominated for the Australian Writers' Guild Monte Miller Award. Her feature screenplay Driven was a Semifinalist in the 2016 Academy Nicholl Screenwriting Awards. She was on the 2017 Young & Hungry List of up-and-coming screenwriters, and the 2016 Inside Film List as one of the Australian screen industry's 'Rising Talents'. She also wrote the adaption of Wentworth VR, which won the Screen Producers Australia Best Interactive or Game Production of the Year 2018.
Before becoming a screenwriter, Catherine worked extensively as a production freelancer in various departments. Jennifer Liao most recently directed 2 episodes of FROM, a new contemporary sci-fi horror series produced by Epix, MGM, Midnight Radio, and AGBO. Her other directorial credits include "Imposter" for The CW anthology series Two Sentence Horror Stories and Lifetime's first Asian-American holiday movie, A Sugar & Spice Holiday, for which she received a DGC Award nomination. Jennifer made her feature directorial debut with the supernatural dark comedy End of Days, Inc., and also directed the thriller Grandma Dearest a.k.a. Deranged Granny, starring Wendie Malick and Amanda Righetti, which premiered on Lifetime. Chase Joynt is a moving-image artist and writer whose work interrogates representations of gender and violence. Awarded the EP Canada/Canada Film Capital Award for Emerging Canadian Artist (Inside Out, Toronto) and jury awards for Best Documentary (Bangalore, Regent Park), Best Short (Ecuador) and Best Documentary Short (Seattle), Chase's work continues to be exhibited internationally. In 2013, Chase starred as Mars Brito, the lead character in John Greyson's Murder in Passing, which is widely regarded as the most ambitious transmedia public narrative project available on public screens worldwide. His most recent two film projects, Between You and Me and Genderize, are now streaming live online with CBC Digital Docs.
As a recipient of a Mellon Fellowship in Arts Practice and Scholarship at the University of Chicago, Chase's recent speaking engagements include Harvard University, Princeton University, NYU, The New York Academy of Medicine, University of Manchester, UC Berkeley, and the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago. Chase holds a BA from the UCLA School of Theater Film and Television, and a PhD in Film from York University. His first book You Only Live Twice (co-authored with Mike Hoolboom) is a 2017 Lambda Literary Award Finalist and named one of the Best Books of 2016 by The Globe and Mail and CBC. Sierra Leonean-American Filmmaker Nikyatu's films have screened at festivals nationally and internationally. With a BA from Duke University and an MFA from NYU's Tisch Graduate Film school, she's earned various awards including NYU's Spike Lee Fellowship Award, the Princess Grace Narrative film grant and Director's Guild of America Honorable Mentions...Three of her short films were acquired by and aired on HBO.
Her latest film Suicide By Sunlight: a project funded by THROUGH HER LENS and sponsored by the Tribeca Film Institute and Chanel, made its debut at the 2019 Sundance Film Festival and is currently finishing out a prolific the festival circuit.
Most recently, Nikyatu made her TV Directing debut with an episode of the original scripted horror anthology: Two Sentence Horror Stories, which premiered on CW Sept 2019.

Action movie buff and all around cinephile, Kimani Ray Smith landed his first big break as a stunt performer on Jackie Chan's "Rumble in the Bronx"(94). Thereafter, Kimani spent the next 30 years garnishing numerous action roles in Hollywood blockbusters, such as; "I Robot, Salt, A-Team, Twilight, Total Recall and both Deadpool movies", to name a few. To date, Kimani has garnered over 200 credits as a stunt performer, actor and stunt coordinator. He's been nominated for 20 Leo Awards [the Canadian Emmys] in several categories and has won three of them for Stunt Coordination. His latest Stunt Coordinating effort is the highly anticipated film, "G.I. Joe Origins: Snake Eyes" for Paramount Pictures.
Growing up in humble beginnings, Kimani is a by-product of a Black Panther father and a Cherokee/Irish novelist mother. After the passing of his father during times of racial tension, his mother pulled her mixed-race family out of the ghettos of Detroit and moved to Arizona to get in touch with their Indigenous roots. Spending two years living in a tee-pee in the desert was a life changing experience and where Kimani developed his love for storytelling. At a drive-in theater, Kimani saw his first film, "Star Wars: A New Hope" which sparked his life-long obsession for the movies.
Kimani has directed episodes of SyFy/Netflix "Van Helsing", CW's "Two Sentence Horror Stories", an episode of Disney/FreeForm's "Motherland: Fort Salem" and AMC/Shudder's "Horror Noire". Kimani's latest release is the feature film, "The Painter" for Paramount Plus.- Director
