Deborah Nadoolman grew up in New York city standing in the back of the house at Broadway shows after her high school day was finished. She was awarded the first grant for Costume Design from the National Endowment for the Arts in the United States. After graduating from UCLA with an M.A. in Costume Design in 1975, she had a baptism in wardrobe working at NBC television. Her versatility was an asset for director John Landis for his The Kentucky Fried Movie (1977), in which a dozen distinct short segments were molded into a coherent whole. Nadoolman met Landis while a freshman at college, through a group of friends who had been to high school with him. Landis is a high school drop-out. In addition to two children, the relationship established a long-term film collaboration between the costume designer and the director, including the comedy classics National Lampoon's Animal House (1978) and The Blues Brothers (1980). The elaborate period of the 1940s was depicted in Steven Spielberg's 1941 (1979).
Her work with Spielberg continued with the iconic costume for Indiana Jones in Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Louis Malle on Crackers (1984), and 'Costa Gavras' on Mad City (1997). Further designing for John Landis included Trading Places (1983), An American Werewolf in London (1981), Three Amigos! (1986), Coming to America (1988), and the costumes for the groundbreaking music video Michael Jackson's Michael Jackson: Thriller (1983), winner of MTV's first music video award.
She is a two-term past president of The Costume Designer's Guild, Local 892, the union representing working Hollywood costume designers. In addition to writing the chapter "Designing Hollywood: Women Costume and Production Designers" in Women Designers in the USA 1900 - 2000, Pat Kirkham, Editor (Yale University Press, New Haven & London, 2000), and compiling and editing the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences catalogue 50 Costumes/50 Designers: Concept to Character (University of California Press, 2004) she is the author of Screencraft: Costume Design (Focal Press, London, 2003), Dressed: A Century of Hollywood Costume Design (Harper Collins, New York, 2007), and FilmCraft: Costume Design (Focal Press, 2012). Nadoolman wrote the first doctoral dissertation in the field of film costume design, Scene And Not Heard: The Role of Costume in the Cinematic Storytelling Process, and graduated with a PhD in the History of Design from the Royal College of Art in 2003. She is the David C. Copley Chair in Costume Design at UCLA's School of Theater, Film and Television, and Director of the David C. Copley Center for the Study of Costume Design at UCLA. She is the senior curator for the exhibition Hollywood Costume, opening October 20, 2012 at the V&A Museum in London, England.

Diana's fascination with costume design led to her completion of a Bachelor of Arts Degree, majoring in Costume and Set Design. Paintings and the art world is often her inspiration for film characters and she has taken this passion further with a Master of Fine Arts, the subject of her thesis being "The Emotional Language of Clothing".
Early in her career she worked in theatre for 5 years under accomplished international costume designers like Peter Cazalet, Bruno Santini, Raymond Schoop and many others on opera, drama and ballet productions.
From there, the Film Industry was a natural progression for Diana. Over the years she has created costumes for over a hundred feature films as well as numerous television series and many commercials. Her experience with film established her love for period costume and her intimate knowledge of historical clothing is an invaluable support for directors and actors in creating their characters. For her the challenge continues to find the inseparable intimacy between a character and the way a character would select their apparel and choose to appear in the world. In essence, she employs the medium of costume to create characters to enrich and enhance a given narrative - always taking care never to allow the costume to intrude on the collaborative effort required between all the elements of film making. In short, for her, the successful costume has to remain in service of the character and narrative. She has achieved this over a broad range of genres: historical, period, futuristic, contemporary, fantasy and wherever the magic of cinema may want to go. Her work demonstrates the power of costume as a subtle, yet dynamic and convincing, contribution to support, enhance and compliment the work of directors, cast and crew in bringing a narrative to life. She engages in all her projects collaboratively and highly regards the team effort required in the process of film making.
She has been nominated for Best Costume Design as Costume Designer twice for an EMMY AWARD in 2013 and 2016, for a Danish ROBERTS AWARD in 2015, a Canadian GEMINI AWARD 2004, WOMENS INTERNATIONAL TELEVISION AND FILM SHOWCASE AWARD 2013 and several SAFTA/ GOLDEN HORN WINS AND NOMINATIONS between 2004 and 2017.
Diana started and owns Theatre and Film Costume Workshop (Pty) Ltd, a comprehensive costume rental and manufacturing company, which she started in Johannesburg in 1985 and relocated to Cape Town in 1992. This studio is located in the artistic hub of Cape Town where a variety of talented artisans and crafts people join forces to create the costumes and characters for their films.Best works:

Oscar-winning British art director and production designer, most famous for being the creative genius behind the look of the original Star Wars trilogy. Reynolds also worked on many other blockbusters like Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), Superman (1978), Empire of the Sun (1987) and Bicentennial Man (1999). While brilliantly inventive in his chosen field, he remained consistently self-effacing in private life. Many a famous prop had a modest beginning. The golden idol used in the opening scene of 'Raiders', for example, began life as a 'fertility figure', originally purchased by Reynolds at a Mexican airport as a "tacky tourist souvenir". His creations for Star Wars have included Yoda's swamp planet of Dagobah, Han Solo's carbon freezing chamber, Jabba the Hutt's sail barge and the Ewok village (respectively, for Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back (1980) and Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)). The look of most subsequent entries in the Star Wars franchise continues to remain greatly influenced by the earlier conceptual work of Reynolds.
Reynolds began his career in advertising, among other things creating illuminated signs. During a trip to Shepperton Studios in the early 60s, he was able visit multiple sets, including one for the Bing Crosby/Bob Hope classic The Road to Hong Kong (1962). From that moment on, Reynolds was hooked on the film industry and determined to become a part of it. He began his career by serving a two year long apprenticeship in production design at the old Elstree studios in Borehamwood, near London, plying his trade on episodes of The Saint (1962). He was to later revisit this location to create such iconic sets as Jabba's Palace for Star Wars, or set pieces like the opening scene of the rolling boulder for Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Two-time Academy Award Nominee Ruth Myers was brought up in Manchester, England. She trained at St. Martin's School of Art in London, then went to work at the Royal Court Theatre on a student grant, followed by a year working in repertory. Ms. Myers next returned to the Royal Court, contributing to at least 15 productions which included John Osborne's "Hotel in Amsterdam" and "Time Present", and David Hare's "Stag".
Her first professional assignment was sewing sequins all night on costumes for the great designer Anthony Powell. During this period, Ms. Myers worked as assistant to the legendary Sophie Devine, who as 'Motley' had created the costumes for many of the early English classic films including director David Lean's "Great Expectations". With her encouragement, Ms. Myers started to design for the theatre and then for low-budget English films beginning in 1967 with "Smashing Time" (now famous for its era-defining Mod look), "A Touch of Class", Peter Medak's "The Ruling Class", and "The Twelve Chairs".
After being persuaded to come to America by Gene Wilder, she collaborated with him on "The World's Greatest Lover," "The Woman in Red" and "Haunted Honeymoon." She also then designed for Joseph Losey's "Galileo" and "The Romantic Englishwoman." It was on this film that she met her late husband, noted Production Designer, Richard MacDonald. As a couple they enjoyed a dynamic collaboration on films that include Sydney Pollack's "The Firm"; Fred Schepsi's "Plenty" and 'The Russia House"; Norman Jewison's "And Justice For All"; Ken Russell's "Altered States"; Jack Clayton's "Something Wicked This Way Comes"; and Barry Sonnenfeld's "The Addams Family," for which Ms. Myers received an Academy Award nomination.
Since 1993, she has designed more than 30 films including Curtis Hanson's "L.A. Confidential"; Douglas McGrath's "Emma," (for which she earned her second Academy Award nomination) "Nicholas Nickelby" and "Infamous"; Taylor Hackford's "Proof of Life,"; Mimi Leder's "Deep Impact"; John Curran's "The Painted Veil." Her most recent films are the forthcoming "City of Ember," directed by Gil Kenan; and "The Golden Compass," directed by Chris Weitz.
