The voices that shaped fighting games (3/4: Triple A Edition)
I've grown to love fighting games, but I've also grown to appreciate the many voice actors that put their best efforts into the voices of these iconic characters. While many lesser-known voice actors have become known to voice in the fighting game genre, I've also listed anime voice actors that have worked on this game genre, or voice actors that have worked fighting games with a more anime design. This list on the other hand, lists many voice actors who have been in AAA cartoons & video games, and have worked on fighting games.
This is the third episode in a four-part series.
(If I had a nickel for every time Chris Cox voiced a Mortal Kombat guest fighter whose original portrayer was an actor with the initials "A.S.", I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice.)
(Actors denied entry: Jim Ward, the voice of the Sentinel in Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3, will not be included, as he has retired months prior to this list being created.)
(Removals: Tom Kane, Magneto's voice actor from the same game, has now been removed, due to his retirement. Reuben Langdon, the former voice of Ken Masters from the Street Fighter series, has been removed due to also being a believer in conspiracy theories similar to Chuck Huber, and for supporting far-right politics.)
(Side note: Fred Tatasciore has the most voice roles in the fighting game genre on this list, as he has lent his voice to eight fighting game characters.)
(Side note 2: May Kevin Conroy and Ken Lally rest in peace…)

Raised on a steady diet of Marvel Comics, Science Fiction, Musical Theater, and Action Movies from the 80's and 90's, Andrew Bowen is a multi-talented actor/writer/director/producer whose infectious passion for cinema, comedy, and character-driven storytelling has been the driving force behind his two decades of work in the film and television industry.
After his hilarious debut as Jack Freemont in Capcom's live action "Fox Hunt" game, Bowen become a series regular on Fox's comedy series Mad TV where his impressions of Keanu Reeves and Nicolas Cage became legendary. Bowen has continued to find success as an actor appearing in dozens of TV series, independent films, and over 150 national commercials, working with industry legends from Gale Anne Hurd (Aliens, The Walking Dead), James Mangold (Logan, Ford VS Ferrari), Lasse Hallström (What's Eating Gilbert Grape) Uma Thurman and more. Some of Bowen's notable film credits include roles in Blumhouse's horror anthology Holidays, All for Nikki, Conjurer, Rock Jocks, and The Work & The Glory (parts 1 and 2). He has guest starred on shows from NCIS to Shameless, and had recurring roles in several series, including Magic City and ER.
Bowen has lent his considerable voice-over talents to brands including Lexus, Jeep, NAVY, and McDonald's - and been featured in some of the most successful video game titles of all time - including Star Wars; The Old Republic, Saint's Row, and his hugely popular work voicing Johnny Cage in Warner Brother Games' Mortal Kombat X, MK11, and MK1.
An accomplished screenwriter and director, Bowen made his directorial debut with the independent feature Along The Way. A haunting portrait of American youth in the late 90s, the film was an award-winning festival darling that enjoyed a successful limited theatrical run and DVD release in 2007. Bowen returned to directing in 2018, making a wildly fun, sci-fi, action adventure short film The 716th. Written, directed, produced, edited, production designed, and starring Bowen, the short went on to World Premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival to rave reviews and was released on Amazon Prime later that year. The popular short has enjoyed over 2 million views to date and built a large and enthusiastic fan base.
In 2023 Bowen formed Anatomic Pictures, a production banner with fellow The 716th executive producer Daniel C. Allison and VFX supervisor/producer Jon Alvord. AP is developing a large and dynamic slate of film & TV projects including the psychological horror thriller Scent (which Bowen is attached to direct), and an expanded Film and TV Universe based on the hugely popular The 716th. Later this year, AP will be releasing a director's cut of Bowen's debut feature Along The Way. Digitally remastered in 4K from its original 35mm negative for its Streaming debut, the film will represent the definitive version of Bowen's poignant and haunting love letter to Generation X.Johnny Cage (Mortal Kombat series (MKX onwards))- Actor

Charles Halford was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. He is an actor, known for his work as the unsettling red herring Reggie Ledoux in season one of the HBO's award winning crime drama True Detective (2014), as Chas the hard-to-keep-down cabby, and wing-man to John Constantine (2014) on NBC's short-lived horror series, and for his diverse yet crucial supporting roles in Steven Soderbergh's Logan Lucky (2017) and [link+tt14128670]. He is also known to many as Big John, the catalyst, and father to protagonist John B, of Netflix's popular sun-soaked, multi-generational, treasure-hunting adventure Outer Banks (2020), among many other outstanding roles in much beloved projects, from network shows, to streamers, to cinemas. As a voice actor he is known for Reign of the Supermen (2019), Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure (2017), and Rise of the Tomb Raider (2015) among many other video game and animation titles. He has lived and worked in between Los Angeles and the Southeast markets since 2009. He began working professionally in film and television in 1999.
Charles credits working as a local (stock) cast member for The Sundance Institute Directing Lab over the course of about five years in the early 2000s as his most profound and relevant professional training. It was at these labs where Charles would meet and work with some of the most established industry creative professionals as mentors, as well as hottest up-and-coming directors of the 21st century, some of whom have collaborated with Charles professionally since working together at the labs. One of these instances culminated in the small but outstanding, and deeply unsettling, role of Reggie Ledoux, in Season One of True Detective (2014) the gas-mask wearing, machete carrying boogeyman of "black stars, "flat circles," and "Carcosa,' dialogue and infamy. This character and Halford's embodiment of him, received instant industry attention, and would help establish Charles as a bold and noteworthy character actor at the forefront of "The Golden Age of Television." Charles was subsequently cast as a series regular on network television, in the straight role, the right-hand-man-and-muscle to the titular character of NBC's Constantine, a short-lived but well-received adaptation of the cult-classic DC/Vertigo horror comic "John Constantine: Hellblazer." He has also brought to life, and very often died for, pivotal and dynamic characters within some of the most buzzed-about, beloved, and iconic shows of the 21st century such as NBC's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999), Sundance/AMC's critically-acclaimed original series Rectify (2013), and AMC's behemoth The Walking Dead (2010).Gorilla Grodd (Injustice 2)- Actor

- David Kaye's voiceover career began with 'The Great American Hero', General Hawk in the D.I.C. animated series, G.I. Joe in 1989. Working as an on-air talent for radio station C.K.L.G. (L.G.73) quickly became less interesting as both on-camera and behind-the-microphone roles started taking up more time. Over the next decade and a half David's on camera roles burgeoned along with his vocal career. On camera opportunities came in the form of guest roles on numerous TV series and movies such as The X-Files, Battlestar Galactica and Happy Gilmore.
During this time David was being cast in some of the first of hundreds of animated shows and video games. So many, in fact, this now became the main focus of his career and he's never looked back.
David's biggest moment was when he was cast as Megatron in 1994 in the popular series 'Transformers'. As a new animation art form was taking off (bolstered by Mainframe Entertainment's C.G.I. advances), 'Beast Wars' was born ('Beasties' in Canada) and would run for three seasons of "...the most fun you could ever have!". Thus began an almost twenty-year relationship with the 'Transformers' franchise. In 2007, David became the only actor in the history of the franchise to play the lead villain AND the lead hero when he was cast as Optimus Prime for Cartoon Network's 'Transformers: Animated'.
Once again, David finds himself returning to a franchise he first engaged in years before. This time going back to the beginning with G.I. Joe. Not only can he be heard as Scarlett's father, but also introducing every episode as the narrator during the opening titles.
For fans of Anime, David was the voice behind Sesshomaru in the English dub of the original 'InuYasha' series, Treize Khushrenada in 'Mobile Suit Gundam Wing', Recoome in the original English dub of 'Dragon Ball Z', and as the high strung father, Soun Tendo in 'Ranma 1/2'. His anime work still brings fans to conventions to meet him.
After commuting between Vancouver and Los Angeles for almost a decade, a full-time move to L.A. was inevitable. Shortly after the move, David landed a role in Disney/Pixar's Oscar winning movie, 'Up'.
As the work keeps coming in, David's voice can be heard in Insomniac's 'Ratchet & Clank' video game series as the lovable robot Clank. He's also been featured as Mysterio in 'Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions', 'Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes' and 'Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order', Nick Fury and Captain America in 'Marvel: Ultimate Alliance 2', Nathan Hale in 'Resistance', Logan Carter in 'Dead Island', Missing Link in 'Monsters vs. Aliens', and many more.
He has continued to work in cartoons, voicing Khyber in 'Ben 10: Omniverse' and Baby Reginald on 'Regular Show', as well as J.A.R.V.I.S., Vision and Baron Zemo on 'Avengers Assemble', Vandal Savage on 'Young Justice', Duckworth on 'DuckTales', and Grandpa Max in the reboot of 'Ben 10'. David also voices segments for the HBO news-satire program 'Last Week Tonight with John Oliver'.
With continuing commitments for movie trailers, network promotions for ABC, Fox, the CW, and a host of radio and television affiliates and a lot of commercial work, the days get a little tight from time to time, but he doesn't mind.Jedah Dohma (from Darkstalkers) (Marvel vs. Capcom: Infinite)

Born in Los Angeles, and raised in New York City, Jessica DiCicco grew up on the Upper West side of Manhattan. She has been around show business virtually her whole life. Even her birth was announced in both Variety and Us Magazine, since her father, Bobby Di Cicco, was a popular actor in the late 1970s and early '80s with many films to his credit including The Big Red One (1980) and 1941 (1979).
Despite her early exposure to show business, Jessica's acting career actually began unintentionally. During what she thought was a typical day in her second grade class, actress Marlo Thomas selected her from thousands of New York school children to appear on the ABC special Free to Be... a Family (1988). She worked on the show for one year and was heavily featured in the final broadcast. Soon after, Jessica landed her first role in the film The Godfather Part III (1990) followed by the cult classic Household Saints (1993), and booked multiple national commercial spots including Cheerios, Burger King, and a groundbreaking Nike campaign directed by Spike Lee. She also lent her voice to many television and radio projects and appeared in numerous productions for theater, feature film and television, including the lead in a Nickelodeon pilot, Bus No. 9 (1998), which earned her a nomination for a Young Artists Award.

Jonathan was born in New York City. At a very early age he started using his voice to mimic the sounds and voices around him. At the age of eleven he began performing in various stage plays and musicals in school. At age thirteen his interest in piano surfaced and he could be heard playing classical favorites without reading a note of music. The same gift of his ear for recreating sounds and voices allowed him to learn songs on the keyboard as well.
In High School he was honored with the Vocal Music, Drama, and Theater Workshop awards. At College he cultured skills as a Broadcasting major while working at both the Alternative Rock as well as the National Public Radio stations on campus.
In time, it was clear that his original material in both music and voice would most exemplify his talents. After a four year stay in Atlanta, GA to hone his skill set and build a portfolio, he moved to Los Angeles to be closer to the Motion Picture and Television capital of the world and follow his dream of voicing animated characters. A veteran of stage and radio, he resides in Los Angeles, California where he enjoys a rewarding career in voiceover.Iron Giant (MultiVersus (replaced Vin Diesel))- Actor

After studying theatrical performance and creative writing at the University of the Pacific and University of Southern California, Ferguson worked behind the scenes in daytime television production while occasionally finding time to perform in local theatre productions and improvisation groups. Towards the end of his production career, he actively began his pursuit of a career in voice-over. In 1999, while working on what would turn out to be his last full-time position in TV production, a voice-over agent named Pat Brady, after discovering Ferguson the week prior in a voice-over workshop in Toluca Lake, California, and before even officially signing with him for representation, sent him out on what would be his first professional voice-over audition (a sound-alike for Keanu Reeves in a 60 second radio spot satirizing The Matrix (1999) for the former Hollywood Video movie-rental franchise). He ended up booking the role from this first VO audition, after which he officially signed with Pat Brady who, through two talent agencies, would continue to represent him to this day. In 2000, Ferguson gained his first experience in animation voice-over alongside VO actors Rob Paulsen and David Sobolov having booked the role of "Ray" on a former, somewhat obscure CG animated web-series entitled "Li'l Green Men" featured on Warner Bros. former website "Entertaindom." After the next 3 years while building up his voice-over repertoire with various roles in commercial spots, video games, animation, and sound-alike voice-matching for various films, he would be cast in one of the first of his more notable roles being that of Blooregard Q. Kazoo, a.k.a "Bloo" in Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends (2004) created and produced at Cartoon Network Studios and Boulder Media by animator Craig McCracken creator of The Powerpuff Girls (1998). This was accompanied by other notable performances such as General 'Thunderbolt' Ross in the animated series The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (2010), Friend Owl in the feature Bambi II (2006), as well as his recurring vocal portrayal of Harrison Ford as Han Solo and Indiana Jones in Robot Chicken (2001), the regular series along with its growing franchise of Star Wars parodies. In 2008 Ferguson was also vocally featured as two differently styled race-announcers in two TV commercials for the sports beverage, Vitamin Water; one featuring race-car driver Carl Edwards with Ralph Macchio paying homage to his role in The Karate Kid (1984), and the other a Super Bowl ad featuring Shaquille O'Neal as an unlikely victorious horse-race jockey. Since then he's continued his work in several animation and video game projects as well as periodic voice-match work for the likes of Keanu Reeves, Ray Romano, Will Ferrell, Paul Walker, Andy Dick, Martin Short, Owen Wilson, Bruce Greenwood, Billy Bob Thornton, and Dan Aykroyd amongst many others.Fred (Them's Fightin' Herds (assist character for Oleander))- Actor

His family settled in nearby Mattawan (a town known for excellent educational standards and cows across the street from the high school). It was here that Larry developed a passion for the arts.
After graduating from High School in 1998, Larry became an on air personality at WIRX radio in nearby Benton Harbor. His on air characters and interactions with the public garnered the status of a "local celebrity". It was at this radio station that Larry fully realized acting as a profession. After nearly 5 years at the radio station, Larry left to enroll as a full time acting student at Western Michigan University's nationally acclaimed theater program.
Larry's work ethic and maturity blossomed as he worked at a local homeless shelter, maintained a full class load and continuously performed as leading roles in WMU's theater program. The most recognized role at Western was the nationally acclaimed production of "Othello" where Herron played the title role. Having never performed Shakespeare before, Herron enrolled in Oxford University's BADA program where he trained with Shakespeare professionals from the UK and around the world. Once "Othello" opened, it earned regional and national honors that literally brought the production to a weekend of performances at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
In a turn of fate, that production of "Othello" closed 24 hours before Herron and his mother, Donna Gardner, were due to graduate from Western.
After earning his Masters Degree and a few surfing lessons from UC San Diego in 2008, Larry moved to Los Angeles. He quickly found a close knit relationship with his good friends Ted Schachter and Brantley Brown at Schachter entertainment. Between auditions and shoots, Herron regularly tutors High School students and spends time with his dear friends and the love of his life, Tunisia Hardison.Announcer (Street Fighter 6) - Actress
