Jerry Seinfeld’s Unfrosted is loosely based on the invention of Pop-Tarts. Seinfeld’s feature directorial debut uses a shot inspired by the Steven Spielberg classic of 1975, Jaws. In the film, Spielberg uses the Dolly Zoom shot, which the Seinfeld creator has copied in his upcoming Netflix comedy. Seinfeld opened up about how such classic cinematic shots influenced him as a filmmaker.

Seinfeld’s film stars an ensemble cast including Jim Gaffigan, Hugh Grant, Melissa McCarthy, and Amy Schumer. Seinfeld, Barry Marder, who writes for Seinfeld’s stand-up shows, and Seinfeld writers Spike Feresten and Andy Robin wrote the screenplay of the film.

Steven Spielberg is responsible for creating some of the most unforgettable films of all time. From Schindler’s List to Jurassic Park, the filmmaker has time and again proven that no one has a mind quite like him. With his 1998 film Saving Private Ryan starring Tom Hanks, Steven Spielberg gave the film industry one of the greatest films ever made.
Steven Spielberg’s Saving Private Ryan (1998)
However, there was a time when the film was met with a roadblock which could have ended with the cast of Saving Private Ryan walking out on Steven Spielberg. In order to make the film feel as realistic as possible, the filmmaker made the actors go through an extensive boot camp led by a Marine Corps veteran. Exhausted by the ordeals of Captain Dale Dye’s tasks, the cast of Saving Private Ryan almost quit their jobs before lead actor Tom Hanks changed their minds.

It’s almost hard to imagine anyone else doing Bill Cutting in place of the legendary Daniel Day-Lewis in Gangs of New York, or Tim Robbins’ Andy Dufresne in The Shawshank Redemption but Hollywood veteran Tom Hanks came pretty close to playing several iconic characters including Cutting and Dufresne. The actor was also in negotiation to play one of Keanu Reeves’ roles.
Tom Hanks and Tyler Hoechlin in Road to Perdition
Of course, it’s not John Wick, it would have been kind of weird seeing Hanks as John Wick, as for fans, Reeves was immersed in the character and he is now hard to replace. But Hanks almost booked the slot of the 1994 hit action thriller, Speed. But the role eventually went to the John Wick star.

Chris Pine, Cynthia Erivo, Kieran Culkin, Sharon Stone and Rosie Perez celebrated Jeff Bridges’ seven-decade career at the 49th annual Chaplin Awards Gala in New York City on Monday night. But the Big Lebowski star almost chose a different career path.
During his acceptance speech for the Film at Lincoln Center‘s prestigious honor, the True Grit star shared that he originally “resisted” the idea of pursuing acting full-time for a few different reasons.
“It made me nervous, anxious, and I had other things I wanted to do,” he told the full auditorium at Alice Tully Hall. “I was very much into music. I loved ceramics, painting, and who wants to do what their parents do anyway?”
He recalled his father, actor Lloyd Bridges, explaining to him that he could do all of those things in this career path and use them all to some degree, which was one of the beauties of the job.

Have you ever stopped to marvel at the wonders human talent can achieve? Take Tom Hanks’ example, whose popularity stems from his roles in major blockbusters like Saving Private Ryan, Forrest Gump, and Saving Private Ryan, making him one of Hollywood’s top actors. But that is not the only thing the 67-year-old is good at; he is also a terrific voice actor and is equally adept at comedy and impersonation.

Tom Hanks is known for his good-guy characters in his films. Be it romantic comedies such as You’ve Got Mail and Sleepless in Seattle, or dramas such as Forrest Gump and Philadelphia, the actor always plays roles that represent the morally right side of humanity. With his penchant for such sweet roles, he has been nicknamed the Dad of Hollywood.
However, Hanks reportedly does not have the need to stick to such roles. He recently played Elvis Presley’s antagonistic manager Col. Tom Parker in Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis, which was different from his usual good-guy roles. He has also mentioned that he fought against decisions made by directors to portray him as a good guy, especially in a pivotal scene in his Oscar-winning film Forrest Gump.

Tom Hanks has played a hero multiple times, whether in Captain Phillips or as Woody from Toy Story. Each time, he’s managed to bring something new and meaningful to the idea of being a hero. Thus, when Clint Eastwood approached Tom Hanks, proposing that he take on the role of Sully, the real-life hero who safely landed a plane on the Hudson River in 2009, Hanks found himself pausing before making a decision, in the 2016 film.

But then Eastwood hit him with just three words that sealed the deal. And that decision turned out to be a major highlight in Hanks’ already impressive career.

There is no denying that Robin Williams was one of the greatest entertainers to have graced the industry. His on-screen presence, improvisation skills, and comedic timing, all contributed to making him one of the best comedians of all time. Therefore, it isn’t surprising that the financiers behind the 1992 biographical drama, Chaplin, wanted to cast him in the lead role. After all, he was taking the comedy genre by storm, wasn’t he?
Robin Williams in Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian (2009)
As fate would have it, though, the role ended up going to Robert Downey Jr. who did an incredible job and did justice to the life and personality of Charlie Chaplin. Appreciated by many for his performance, Robert Downey Jr. ended up receiving his first Oscar nomination, all thanks to this very role.

The Shawshank Redemption is one of the movies that truly stood the test of time. This 1994 crime thriller helmed by Frank Darabont is based on the story of renowned horror writer Stephen King. It is also considered a sleeper hit as it initially bombed at the box office before becoming a cult-classic favorite.
Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman in The Shawshank Redemption (1994)
One interesting fact about this movie is that three of the biggest Hollywood names declined to star in it. One would definitely wonder why they would refuse to join a project that would allow them to work with Morgan Freeman.
Who Are The 3 Actors Offered To Star In The Shawshank Redemption?
The movie’s casting department went out in the 1990s to look for the actor who would play the part of Andy Dufresne. According to Vanity Fair, Tom Hanks and Kevin Costner declined the offer.

"Houston, we have a problem." This is easily one of my all-time favorite space movies. Ron Howard's docu-drama thriller Apollo 13 first opened in theaters in the summer of 1995, celebrating its 29th anniversary this year. The old 35mm trailer scanner YouTube recently posted a crisp 2160p scan of the original Apollo 13 trailer. Though this actually plays more like a teaser, setting up the story and stakes and characters without showing too much (the full trailer is also available right below it). In this movie based on a true story, NASA must devise a strategy to return Apollo 13 (which launched in April 1970) to Earth safely after the spacecraft undergoes massive internal damage putting the lives of the three astronauts on board in jeopardy. Starring Tom Hanks as Jim Lovell, Kevin Bacon as Jack Swigert, Bill Paxton Fred Haise, and Ed Harris on the ground as Flight Director Gene Kranz.

While we gloat over the achievements of Tinseltown, we should ask ourselves if Schindler’s List, Steven Spielberg’s 1993 moving historical drama, could have come to fruition without the support of any super alliance. The Ohio-born director, 77, himself expressed his deep appreciation for the decisive support he received from none other than, George Lucas, his loyal comrade.
Earlier this year, Spielberg discussed in detail the paramount role that Lucas had in the creation of Schindler’s List. Indeed, thanks to Lucas and Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy, who was in the US completing Jurassic Park’s sound mixing, Spielberg was able to work effectively on the moving and impactful Holocaust flick.

Spielberg even remembered saying, “George, I am in trouble”, when he reached out to Lucas. That being said, both Schindler’s List and Jurassic Park became timeless masterpieces because of Lucas’ helping hands and generosity.

In Jonathan Frakes' 1996 film "Star Trek: First Contact," the U.S.S. Enterprise travels back in time to the year 2063, the year humanity first invented faster-than-light travel and, almost immediately thereafter, made first contact with an alien species. By "Star Trek" lore, the maiden voyage of the Phoenix, the very first warp-capable ship, caught the attention of a passing Vulcan vessel, causing them to change course, land on Earth, and shake hands with humans. It was the franchise's "Welcome to the neighborhood" moment. It also started a massive utopian rebuilding of Earth, as it had just survived several devastating wars. By "Star Trek" creator Gene Roddenberry's estimation, Earth had to almost destroy itself to have a "moment of clarity." After that, the technological, post-war, post-scarcity, post-capitalist utopia could begin.

Steven Spielberg’s 1981 film, Hook, is regarded as the best adaptation of J.M. Barrie’s Peter and Wendy. The film presented a different take on the children’s fairytale and provided a different experience than the other iterations. A popular rumor suggested that Tom Hanks was the first choice for the role of an older Peter Pan. However, the Philadelphia actor clarified that the story is different.
Robin Williams in Spielberg’s Hook
Hook focuses on the story of a lawyer played by the late Robin Williams, who learns that he is the older Peter Pan. When his kids are kidnapped by Captain Hook as revenge, he goes back to Neverland and joins forces with the Lost Boys and Julia Roberts’ Tinkerbell. Steven Spielberg’s iteration of the fairy tale initially divided the audiences but became a cult classic moving forward.
Was Tom Hanks the first choice to play Peter Pan in Hook?...

The 1999 Frank Darabont film "The Green Mile" has its fair share of truly despicable characters, but the grossest of them all has to be Sam Rockwell's "Wild Bill" Wharton, who assaults and abuses both corrections officers and his fellow inmates with abandon. In the film, based on the novel of the same name by Stephen King, Wild Bill is an inmate who comes to the death row facility where guard Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) works and makes life hell for everyone there, and Rockwell really put his all into it, portraying one of cinema's biggest slimeballs. He uses racist slurs, urinates on a guard's shoes, and spits a whole bunch of Moon Pie chocolate filling all over another guard. He also spits right in Paul's face, and it's nasty.

In 1999, Tom Hanks starred in The Green Mile based on Stephen King’s novel of the same name. The narrative followed the journey of a death row prison guard during the Great Depression who witnesses supernatural events after the entry of a convict played by Michael Clarke Duncan.

The film also benefited from a disturbingly brilliant performance from Sam Rockwell who played the role of William ‘Wild Bill’ Wharton, one of the most difficult and uncontrollable prisoners in the facility. Twenty years ago this month, the fairy tale-like romantic comedy “13 Going on 30” starring Jennifer Garner made its way into cinemas. The actress played Jenna Rink, a socially awkward soon-to-be 13-year-old who quickly realizes that she “hates being 13.” She makes a birthday wish to be “thirty, flirty and thriving.” With the little help of some wishing dust, she wakes up the next morning to discover that her wish has come true.
It was a defining moment in Garner’s early career. Her role as Sydney Bristow in the television action thriller series “Alias” had made her a breakout star (including at awards shows) just a few years earlier. She won the Golden Globe for Best Drama Actress in 2002 and had competed again in 2003 and earlier in 2004. She had also been nominated for two Emmy Awards one Screen Actors Guild trophy.

Morgan Freeman and Tim Robbins’ The Shawshank Redemption is undoubtedly one of the best films released in 1994, the same year when Pulp Fiction and Forrest Gump were released. While the latter two managed to nab some Oscars, The Shawshank Redemption shockingly went empty-handed, but, it hasn’t undermined its reputation of being one of the best films of that decade.

The inspiring and heartwarming prison drama told the story of one man’s resilience and eventual freedom from being put into prison despite claims of innocence. The ending of the film saw the emotional reunion of Freeman and Robbins’ characters. It seems the original treatment of the film was slightly different, one which Freeman was vehemently against.

Frank Darabont's 1999 Oscar darling "The Green Mile," based on an inexplicably serialized novel by Stephen King, is set in 1935 Louisiana in the fictional Cold Mountain Penitentiary, specifically the prison's death row. The correctional officers are overseen by Paul Edgecomb (Tom Hanks) who struggles to retain his soul working such a dire job. The floor that leads to the prison's electric chair is painted green, earning it the titular nickname. Paul attempts to wrangle his officers' cruelty and retain what little hope he can, even after witnessing the state execute prisoner after prisoner. To make matters worse, he's suffering from a bladder infection.
The wildest prisoner on death row is William "Wild Bill" Wharton, played by the always amazing Sam Rockwell. Wharton was clearly mentally ill, and would frequently assault the officers, forcing him into a padded cell. He spat insults and racial epithets, flashing his yellowed teeth and horribly casual hate.

Ryan Garcia’s Startling Claims: From Kanye West To Oprah Winfrey ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Professional boxer Ryan Garcia often grabs the spotlight not only because of his sport but also because of his controversial remarks allegedly targetting influential personalities via social media. Recently, he made news by claiming Kanye West refused to accompany him because of his Sean Diddy Combs, and before that, he targeted several celebs – from Tom Hanks to Diddy Combs. Here’s everything you need to know about it.
On Saturday night, Garcia faced Devin Haney at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. When fans speculated that Garcia might not even make it to the ring because of his questionable social media activities, the boxer showed everyone by scoring 12 12-round majority decision over the lightweight champion Haney. However, Garcia did not win the title as he failed to meet the 140-pound limit.

More than action and adventure, Tom Hanks is best known for his capabilities in dramatics. He specializes in acting out complex character arcs that have an impact on audiences, rather than physically fighting antagonists. Such a reputation has followed him for the majority of his career. Even when he was a part of movies that covered conventionally violent topics, the projects focused more on the characters and their states of mind than complex action sequences.
Tom Hanks in Forrest Gump
The perfect example of such a film would be Saving Private Ryan, directed by Steven Spielberg. The film is known for eliciting a very emotional reaction from its audience and is regarded as one of the greatest war films of all time. It would seem that viewers weren’t the only ones affected by Spielberg’s excellent storytelling.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice‘s Lex Luthor could have looked very different.
Director Zack Snyder stopped by the Happy Sad Confused podcast to promote the upcoming second part of his Rebel Moon films for Netflix. Over the course of the conversation, host Josh Horowitz asked him if there was any truth to the fact that the studio wanted Tom Hanks or Adam Driver for the villain role.
“I think I did talk to Adam on the phone, yeah,” he said of the rumored castings. “Leonardo DiCaprio, I talked to him about it.”
While Snyder ultimately went with Jesse Eisenberg as Lex, starring opposite Henry Cavill’s Superman and Ben Affleck’s Batman, he revealed the Titanic star “had a lot of great ideas, actually, just in the meeting.

Martin Scorsese is ol’ blue-eyeing a big new project.
Variety reports that Scorsese is developing a Frank Sinatra biopic that will star Leonardo DiCaprio as the legendary crooner and Jennifer Lawrence as movie star Ava Gardner, Sinatra’s second wife. It would be the Oscar-winning director’s seventh film with DiCaprio and a reunion for DiCaprio and Lawrence, who worked together on the Best Picture-nominated dark comedy “Don’t Look Up.”
The 81-year-old filmmaker plans to tackle the Sinatra biopic after “Life of Jesus,” his independently financed religious film that is expected to go into production this year. (Variety notes that “Silence” star Andrew Garfield and “Top Gun: Maverick” actor Miles Teller are up for potential roles in that project.)

Can you believe that Dennis Quaid turned down, not one, but two movies made famous by Tom Hanks? Like, what? So here’s the gist.
Dennis Quaid Jokes He And Tom Hanks Have A Lot To Talk About After Turning Down Roles That Got Popularized By Hanks
Let’s do a quick flashback to when Dennis Quaid just casually told us that he turned down the opportunity to star in the 1998 fim “Big,” as a result of receiving several job offers at the time.
We all know what happened, Tom Hanks replaced him for the lead role in “Big” and made “Big” big (sorry I couldn’t resist.) “Big” did turn out to be a very successful movie. In fact, one of the most successful in Hanks’ career.

When it comes to celebrities and those who live inside the gates of Hollywood, it would seem that the skeletons in their closets find a way out eventually. The mightiest fall the fastest and those who were known as the kindest, possess the most darkness. Unfortunately, very rarely is someone exempt from this, and Jim Carrey was not fortunate enough.
Jim Carrey
Carrey is a comedic icon, having revolutionized the genre and established himself as a talented actor in several genres. Despite this, there have been more than a few questionable moments in his career.

Masters of the Air is the third World War II miniseries from Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman, following Band of Brothers and The Pacific. Goetzman said Spielberg’s father had been pushing them to do the series about WWII pilots since their first.
“We had an obligation to Steven’s father,” Goetzman said at Contenders TV. “He was in the Army Air Force. He’d seen Band and The Pacific and say to Steven, ‘Those are great. Ron Howard's 1995 film "Apollo 13" is an effective thriller even when forearmed with the knowledge that the three astronauts depicted returned to Earth okay. For those unfamiliar with the Apollo 13 mission, in April of 1970, Jim Lovell, Jack Swigert, and Fred Haise took a shuttle into space, hoping to land on the moon. An electrical problem, however, caused an explosion on the craft, and the astronauts lost a great deal of their oxygen supply. With resources nil and communication limited, the astronauts had to find a way to survive in space and return to Earth alive. Sadly, they didn't get to walk on the moon.
In Howard's film, the astronauts were played by Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, and Bill Paxton, while Ed Harris played their contact back at NASA. The film was nominated for nine Academy Awards, including Best Picture, and won two for Best Sound and Best Editing. It...

It’s the rare actor has an opportunity to portray a real-life World War II hero and a notorious villain of American history in the space of just a few months, but the Irish-born Anthony Boyle is that guy. He’s king of the prestigious limited series in 2024 in a pair of big-ticket Apple TV+ projects. He was starring as Lieut. Harry Crosby of the Air Force’s famed Bloody Hundredth bomber group in the nine-part, $250 million epic “Masters of the Air” from the team that made “Band of Brothers” and “The Pacific,” Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks and Gary Goetzman. And a few months after completing filming on that in England, Boyle started work on the seven-part historical drama “Manhunt” portraying no less than John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln. “I wanted to do kind of the opposite of what I’d just done,” Boyle says.

The Christina Applegate-led dark comedy from the 90s gets a shrewdly made update that acts as a blueprint for how Hollywood should revisit older material
Don’t Tell Mom the Babysitter’s Dead is the ultimate ode to the latchkey generation. To watch the 1991 film now is to be reminded of a simpler time when parents barely checked in, house parties were all the rage and Christina Applegate was the ideal girl nextdoor. Given its place in the grand tradition of coming-of-age classics, somewhere between Tom Hanks’s Big and Jennifer Garner’s 13 Going on 30, it was only a matter of time before Hollywood mulled a remake of Applegate’s celluloid breakout. Any update would have to relate to a new generation that, in many ways, has had to grow up even faster than their predecessors.

The 2025 Oscars ceremony is months away, but we already know some things about the show, the potential nominees and who may host it.
Read on below for answers to your questions about the 2025 Academy Awards.
When Are The 2025 Oscars?
The Oscars will be handed out Sunday, March 2 — a week earlier than the March 10, 2024 show. The ceremony will start at 4 p.m. Pt/7 p.m. Et — a welcome time change that began with the 96th Academy Awards last March. The show had typically run from 5 p.m./8 p.m. (and often much later depending on speeches).
Who Is Hosting The 2025 Oscars?
The host usually isn’t announced until November or December, but given the show is on ABC through 2028 and given Jimmy Kimmel’s well-received efforts earlier this month, he may well be back again. If so, it will be his fifth time hosting, putting him in company with the great Johnny Carson.

Conan O’Brien returns to The Tonight Show stage after more than a decade, but this time as a guest. The comedian and former host, who once helmed the late-night talk show, now revisits to reminisce about his past experiences with the current host Jimmy Fallon. However, what people can’t forget is his exit from the show. It’s no secret that his departure was not without its share of drama, and the lingering feud with Jay Leno remains a topic of interest and speculation among viewers.

Hollywood studios have long made a point of promoting tentpole movies at the Cannes Film Festival, using the Cote d’Azur location to highlight their A-list titles with splashy promotional campaigns.
A similar, if less flashy, version of the big Cannes launch took place Tuesday for The Americas, the long-awaited premium wildlife documentary series from BBC and NBCUniversal. Producers of the series, narrated by Tom Hanks, revealed how their team used cutting-edge technology to take viewers inside the lives of critters from across the continent.
The footage, screened at international television confab MIPTV, showed extraordinary sights, including a bear making a treacherous half-mile descent down a crumbling cliff face, with two cubs clinging to her for life, images captured by a drone camera.
The Americas filmmaking team went to extraordinary measures crisscrossing the continent to capture its wildlife on screen. The team prepped for five years and made 180 expeditions over...
