March 17, 1951 was a great day in history, because that the day Kurt Russell entered the world. And while he would go on to become one of the biggest icons of the eighties and nineties, many folks don’t know that Russell started as a child star for Disney, even acting opposite his future life partner Goldie Hawn in The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band (1968). From the sixties into the seventies, he starred in Disney flicks like The Computer Wore Tennis Shoes (1969), but as the studio’s movies started to flop and Russell got older, a change of pace was needed. Arguably, Russell’s career took off when he began working with director John Carpenter, with the first movie being 1979’s TV movie Elvis, but what are Kurt Russell’s best movies? To celebrate his 73rd birthday, let’s dig into them here.

Actor Charlize Theron got her first major film role when she was just 19-years-old. But she credited her own naivete as a youth for nabbing her the breakthrough feature.

Apart from her ability, Theron had a good amount of luck on her side when she was cast in 2 Days in the Valley. But fortune didn’t always smile down on the Oscar-winner. Before acting, Theron pursued a modeling career. In the end, however, she felt she was too tall to succeed in the industry.
“I was too tall, too big, too late for the supermodel look of the 80s. Kate Moss and all the tiny, grungy girls had just become fashionable, and I didn’t fit the bill,.” she once told HuffPost.

Sarah Jessica Parker already knew what it was like starring in a hit show with Sex and the City. But the actor considered the show fortunate it didn’t air at the same time another popular show did. Parker believed that her HBO series wouldn’t have stood a chance against it.
Sarah Jessica Parker felt ‘Sex and the City’ would’ve been squashed by ‘Desperate Housewives’ Felicity Huffman, Teri Hatcher, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross | Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagic
Parker felt there wasn’t much of a competition between Sex and the City and Desperate Housewives. On the surface level, the two shows seemed to have quite a bit in common. They both focused on a cast of women and their day-to-day lives as they dealt with friendships, dating, families and careers. But they had stark differences as well.

Desperate Housewives changed the scope of television when we were welcomed into the neighborhood of Wisteria Lane in 2004. Created by Marc Cherry, the series followed a group of women, “housewives”, who consistently found themselves elbow-deep in dirty laundry — and not the machine-washable kind. The series started off with a bang — literally, when Mary Alice Young (Brenda Strong) committed suicide for unknown reasons. She's our narrator for the series and through her, we follow her friends, Gabrielle (Eva Longoria), Susan (Teri Hatcher), Bree (Marcia Cross), and Lynette (Felicity Huffman) as they try to uncover the reason behind her suicide, all the while balancing their own messy dramas. Every season brought a new mystery to the lane, and there was no predicting what would happen next. Everything from tornadoes, to a plane crashing in the middle of the street, and illegitimate children — there was never a shortage of drama on Desperate Housewives.

Norman Lear, who recently passed away at the age of 101, transformed the network television sitcom in the 1970s by confronting America's cultural contentiousness head-on and daring viewers to laugh at a bigot like Archie Bunker on "All in the Family" or the white-folks-hating George Jefferson on "The Jeffersons." People were more than ready to accept this challenge. "All in the Family" was the top-rated show on television for six of its nine seasons, while "The Jeffersons" ranked in the top 10 for four of its remarkable 11 seasons. Along with "Good Times," "Sanford and Son," "Maude," "One Day at a Time" and "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear basically dominated the decade. It was a creative hot streak that's never been matched and one that Lear could never replicate.
After the 1978 premiere of "Diff'rent Strokes," Lear went ice cold. "The Baxters" and "Palmerstown, USA" only hung around for two seasons, while "Hanging In" and "aka...

Monica Bellucci auditioned for two previous Bond films, Tomorrow Never Dies and The World Is Not Enough, but lost the roles to American and French actresses respectively. Bellucci made history as the oldest "Bond Girl" when she was cast as Lucia Sciarra in Spectre at the age of 50, challenging traditional age norms associated with the term. Bellucci's casting in Spectre marked a shift in the Bond series, opening the door for more diverse and age-inclusive roles, emphasizing talent and character depth over fitting a traditional age mold.
Monica Bellucci starred in Spectre, but she was almost a Bond Girl twice long before the 2015 James Bond movie. An Italian actress and model, Belluci has graced the silver screen with her captivating presence for decades. Known for her roles in films like Malèna, The Matrix Reloaded, and The Passion of the Christ, Bellucci has established herself as a versatile and talented actress.

On Sunday, Dean Cain walked the red carpet at the 91st Hollywood Christmas Parade – but many fans didn’t recognize him after his significant weight gain.
Dressed in a black suit with a festive pink tie, the actor caught the public’s attention due to his new portly look in contrast to his appearance in his TV role in the 90s.
Cain, 57, gained prominence through his role alongside Teri Hatcher in the television series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, which aired on ABC from 1993 to 1997.
Cain went on to take the role of real-life detective James ‘Woody’ Woods in the film Gosnell: The Trial of America’s Biggest Serial Killer in 2018. The movie was based on the true story of Kermit Gosnell, an abortion doctor from Pennsylvania who was convicted of the murder of three infants after their live births and involuntary manslaughter of a pregnant woman under his care,...

Who wouldn't want to spend Christmas at the Chalet?
Teri Hatcher was lovely to experience in a film like this, and frankly, it's so refreshing to have films exploring women in their 50s versus the usual fare of 20s-30s.
Much like A Christmas Spark, following along with a "middle-aged" love story was most enjoyable.
It's also a sign that in all the ways the network has been diversifying its content, it's especially making some tailor-made projects that cater to the exact age demographic that likely tunes in for Lifetime and its Christmas slate most.
As a fan favorite, Teri Hatcher is a great person to helm a film like this.
She has that quirky leading woman quality that makes you always root for her, something she exuded well during her Desperate Housewives days.
In many ways, Christmas at the Chalet could've taken things further and in a different direction...

The science fiction genre continues to thrill television audiences after more than 70 years, taking viewers to different worlds and exploring far-out concepts. However, just because the genre boasts rich storytelling potential and spectacle, it is, of course, not at all immune to the dangers of a sudden cancellation. In an era when even an early renewal order can't guarantee subsequent episodes, that means some sci-fi shows end on cliffhangers, never to be given a satisfying conclusion.
With the stakes often so high for sci-fi television, that makes these unresolved plot threads all the more frustrating for fans following a series and invested in the characters. From being stranded across time and space to fan-favorite characters faced with mortal peril, these cliffhangers threaten to overshadow a show's legacy. Here are the biggest television cliffhangers in the sci-fi genre that were left unresolved by cancelations from the studios or networks producing them.

Most of the cameos in Frasier were celebrity callers on Frasier's radio show, and some main and supporting characters from Cheers also appeared in singular episodes. The cameos in Frasier spanned across different seasons and included actors such as Robbie Coltrane, known for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, and Laura Linney, who had a regular role as Frasier's love interest, Charlotte Connor. Many other famous faces made cameos in the beloved sitcom Frasier, including Richard E. Grant, Patrick Stewart, Sarah Silverman, Linda Hamilton, Michael Keaton, John Hannah, Dr. Phil, Bill Gates, John Glenn, Bob Hoskins, Teri Hatcher, Brian Cox, Jennifer Tilly, and Rosie Perez.
There were hundreds of famous cameos throughout the run of Frasier, but a much smaller number of them were not Cheers characters or radio callers. The original Frasier series ran for 11 seasons, from 1993 through 2004. Over those 11 years, a flurry of famous faces encountered the titular radio psychiatrist.

Here is a wrap-up of all the news you need to know from Tuesday, October 17, 2023.
Netflix has taken an odd approach to promoting Elite Season 7.
We've had random teasers on social media that haven't given much of the plot away,
Now, three days before its premiere date, we have a full-length promo that teases what's on the horizon.
Off the bat, I'm not interested in going back to Las Encinas.
Bringing Omar Ayuso back made me think that a change of scenery was on the menu.
Unfortunately, that isn't the case.
We see that Omar is still trying to piece together his thoughts about Samuel's death at the end of Elite Season 5.
New cast members for Elite Season 7 include Mirela Balic, Gleb Abrosimov, Nadia Al Saidi, Fernando Líndez, Alejandro Albarracín, Iván Mendes, and Maribel Verdú.
They join Elite Season 6 cast members Valentina Zenere, Andre Lamoglia, Carmen Arrufat, Alex Pastrana, Alvaro de Juana,...

Phyllis Coates, the first actress to play Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane on television, only to leave the Adventures of Superman after just one season, has died. She was 96.
Coates, who also appeared in Republic Pictures serials and in such films as I Was a Teenage Frankenstein, died Wednesday of natural causes at the Motion Picture & Television Country House and Hospital in Woodland Hills, her daughter Laura Press told The Hollywood Reporter.
A native of Wichita Falls, Texas, Coates first portrayed the headstrong Lois opposite George Reeves as the Man of Steel in the dark sci-fi movie Superman and the Mole Men (1951).
The success of that Lippert Pictures film — the first full-length theatrical feature starring the comic-book hero — led to the quick decision to start production on a syndicated show for television.

Former Superman actor, Dean Cain, recently brought a lighthearted touch to some hypothetical scenarios of Superman facing off against other iconic superheroes of both DC and Marvel Comics.
In a humorous video on The Babylon Bee, Cain, known for his portrayal of Superman in the 90s live-action TV series Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman, injected a dose of humor into these imaginary face-offs

Cain's playful approach began with Superman having to fac-off with Batman, the other DC great. Referencing the 2016 movie Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, he humorously proposed that Superman could catch Batman off guard by invoking the name "Martha," which both their mothers share. Cain's take on Wonder Woman took a playful jab at the widely criticized film Wonder Woman 1984. He speculated that since Superman would not hit a woman, he could always...

Since 1967, the Best Comedy Actress Primetime Emmy category has seen 13 direct costar showdowns involving seven different combinations of female leads. While this list is four entries longer than the corresponding male roster, the category still falls significantly behind the other 10 lead or supporting ones, all of which boast cast mate battle totals of at least 20. Scroll through our chronological photo gallery to learn more about the 13 cases of dual or triple nominations in the Best Comedy Actress category.
Unlike the Best Comedy Actor list, this female one includes more than just pairs of clashing costars. After “The Golden Girls” actresses Bea Arthur, Rue McClanahan, and Betty White blazed a trail in 1986 as the first trio of performers to receive same-year nominations for a single continuing series (and repeated the feat three more times), they were emulated by “Desperate Housewives” stars Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, and Felicity Huffman in 2005. Desperate Housewives delivered no shortage of drama, both on and off the screen. The soapy ABC series was known both for its juicy plotlines and feuds among the cast. The on-set tension even extended to those who weren’t in front of the camera, according to writer Patty Lin, who worked on the show in its first season.

Lin was a seasoned television writer who’d previously worked on Freaks and Geeks and Friends when she landed a job on the “darkly funny” Desperate Housewives in the spring of 2004. Hollywood was buzzing about the show, which had been created by Marc Cherry. Lin accepted the gig without a second thought, despite some early “warning signs,” she recalls in her new memoir, End Credits: How I Broke Up With Hollywood.

The Daniel Craig era of James Bond movies started strong with Martin Campbell's "Casino Royale" in 2006. Audiences reacted incredibly well to the gruffer, more brutal version of the character, as he fit handily into the world's post-9/11 political hopelessness. A dandyish cartoon James Bond did not fit into the zeitgeist of the '00s, and the character became Dionysian and brutish rather than Apollonian and refined.
The Craig Bond films also introduced a novel concept into the franchise: each film was a direct sequel of the one that preceded it. Ordinarily, Bond films stood on their own, not requiring much knowledge of the films that came before. Now, bad guys could be set up in one picture only to pay off in a later chapter.

The following contains spoilers for My Adventures with Superman, now streaming on HBO Max.
Any Superman fan knows Clark Kent's secret identity is an essential part of his journey. Different adaptations have taken unique approaches to keeping his identity a secret. But in some, they've completely ignored it and allowed important people in Clark's circle to know his secret right away.
With Superman: Legacy coming out in 2025, some fans may wonder how the DC Universe will tackle his secret identity after something like My Adventures with Superman had a very distinct approach. The series has Lois Lane (Alice Lee) and Jimmy Olsen (Ishmel Sahid) know about Clark's (Jack Quaid) secret. It makes sense why Jimmy knows because he and Clark were roommates in college, but as for Lois, it's a more complex issue that Superman: Legacy needs to tread lightly with.

If you’re a child of a certain age — well, adult now — there’s one scary movie that probably defined your experience with horror growing up, whether it scared you off for good or pulled you in and made you want more and more. That movie, of course, is Laika’s Coraline, based on the iconic Neil Gaiman novella of the same name. The story of a young girl who travels to an alternate universe that turns out to be not so friendly was the studio’s first-ever feature film, boasting the voice talents of icons like Dakota Fanning, Teri Hatcher, Ian McShane, Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, and more. Now, the seminal film that scared the pants off of every kid (and maybe their parents too) in 2009 is coming back to theaters next week, freshly remastered, and in honor of the re-release, Collider is excited to share an exclusive look...

Jerry Seinfeld had 73 girlfriends throughout the nine seasons of the show, reflecting the show's focus on amoral characters and its commitment to comedic storylines. Jerry's revolving door of girlfriends allowed for more storylines and comedic interactions, keeping the show fresh and avoiding stale or repetitive plots. Some of Jerry's girlfriends were portrayed by famous actresses and became memorable due to their unique features or quirks, adding to the comedic value of the show.
Throughout its nine-year run on the air, Seinfeld gave Jerry dozens of girlfriends to create some of the most memorable storylines in sitcom history. All four main characters–Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer–dropped in and out of relationships. While some came close to marriage, the characters ultimately never found a suitable long-term match. Yet no one had as many romantic partners as Jerry. His revolving door of romantic partners featured some notable guest stars and standout one-hit-wonder characters.

Lois Lane has been a part of Superman's story since Action Comics #1 (Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster) and has been a part of nearly every adaptation to other mediums since. That started with the radio serial The Adventures of Superman in 1940 when Rolly Besterfirst voiced the character. Joan Alexander took over the role and played it for many years, as well as playing Lois in the famous animated shorts from the Fleischer Brothers. And movies continue to prominently feature her with Rachel Brosnahan joining numerous big-screen Lois Lanes in the upcoming Superman: Legacy
But barring the comics themselves, television has always been the best medium for the character. A TV series provides the screen time to let her stand on her own merits, while the movies invariably relegate her to Superman's support.
