Actor Aaron Pierre has confirmed that he is no longer involved in the McU's Blade reboot. It seems as though Aaron Pierre's character was omitted during one of Blade's many rewrites. Blade will star Mahershala Ali, Delroy Lindo and Mia Goth, while Milan Ray is also reportedly involved.
One actor previously cast in Marvel Studios' Blade reboot has confirmed that he is no longer involved with the upcoming MCU Phase 6 project. Following years of a Blade reboot being rumored, Marvel Studios' Kevin Feige finally confirmed the project's development in 2019, and revealed that acclaimed actor Mahershala Ali will portray the titular character, despite his run as Cottonmouth in Marvel Television's Luke Cage. Since then, however, Blade's tumultuous production has been plagued with delays, strikes, departures and rewrites, meaning the project now isn't expected to release until November 7, 2025, two years after its original 2023 release date.

Aaron Pierre is no longer attached to Marvel’s upcoming “Blade” film, Variety has learned.
The actor revealed the update to Variety on the red carpet for the 55th NAACP Image Awards.
“Early on, there were conversations,” Pierre said of his involvement. “As the project evolved, I’m no longer part of that — attached.”
Pierre was set to star alongside Mahershala Ali, who plays the vampire hunter originally brought to life by Wesley Snipes. Pierre’s role remained undisclosed, although it was reported that he was chosen for the part after an expansive and thorough casting process. Marvel has only officially announced Ali’s casting as the eponymous vampire slayer.
Pierre is far from the first person to exit the Marvel film, which has had a fraught development process. Since July 2021, multiple directors and writers have been attached. Bassam Tariq was originally slated to direct, with Stacy Osei-Kuffour penning the script,...

Everything about the first trailer for the reboot of The Crow looks familiar. Sure, some of that is to be expected, as the 2024 movie retells the story from the 1994 cut classic. And yes, The Crow 2024 does make some obvious choices, casting Bill Skarsgård as a weird tall skinny guy and Danny Huston as a bad guy.
But besides the paint-by-numbers approach that director Rupert Sanders seems to be taking with the property, the really familiar part is The Crow‘s approach to comic book adaptations. Those young enough to have listened to the soundtrack to The Crow back in the ’90s will remember that the current pop culture landscape seemed impossible 30 years ago. Only the most recognizable superheroes got translated to live-action, and even then received a radical make-over, sanding down all of the colorful comic book aspects and stuck into a standard action flick.

Marco Brambilla's 1993 film "Demolition Man" has a pretty wild premise. In the near-future of 1996, a wildly destructive criminal named Simon Phoenix (Wesley Snipes) is at large and taking hostages in Los Angeles. The cop sent in to apprehend Pheonix is John Spartan (Sylvester Stallone), an officer so reckless that he's earned the nickname of Demolition Man. When Spartan finds and confronts Pheonix, he explodes the building they're in. They both escape, but an investigation reveals the bodies of the hostages in the rubble. Oops. Spartan didn't handle that operation very well.
As punishment, Spartan and Pheonix are both subjected to a new prison experiment. Instead of living in cells, prisoners are cryogenically frozen for decades and fed subliminal rehabilitation messages. Spartan is thawed in the year 2032, where the world is now overseen by a benevolent (seeming) right-wing cult leader who has whipped Los Angeles -- now San Angeles -- into shape.

Plot: 1908. Chief (Mario Van Peebles) returns from years of hiding in Mexico to claim stolen reparations gold hidden in the hills of Montana but is chased by Angel (William Mapother), whose rationale to the gold leaves a trail of dead bodies.
Review: Mario Van Peebles is in the enviable position of being a writer, director and actor who can make the kinds of movies he wants with the people he wants. He was able to gain recognition on his own merit, outside of his father’s work, as he appeared in films like Heartbreak Ridge with Clint Eastwood, Ali with Will Smith, as well as cult classics like Gunmen which co-stars Christopher Lambert. He would work with him again in Lambert’s franchise sequel, Highlander: The Final Dimension. Denzel Washington is one of the most prolific actors who changed the way African American characters were portrayed in mainstream cinema. The actor has starred in landmark films such as Training Day, Glory, Philadelphia, Malcolm X, and Cry Freedom. He has also been nominated for the Oscars multiple times and has won the award twice.
Washington was reportedly always interested in playing Black Panther in a film adaptation. While the actor became too old to play the iconic superhero by the time the character made his cinematic debut with Chadwick Boseman’s portrayal, Washington reportedly had his eyes on another superhero. Denzel Washington once mentioned how he wanted to play Green Lantern.

Before playing a foul-mouthed anti-hero in the much-celebrated, third wall-breaking ass-kicker in the Deadpool franchise, he played another foul-mouthed ass-kicker alongside Wesley Snipes in another Marvel movie, Blade: Trinity. Ryan Reynolds plays Hannibal King, the wise-cracking vampire hunter and comedic relief of the Nightstalkers, a group of militant Vampire killers led by Blade's (Snipes) mentor, Abraham's daughter, Abigail Whistler (Jessica Biel). Together, they wage a bloody and hilarious war against Dracula. Reynolds is in excellent form as his cock-sure demeanor and unwelcomed perfectly timed banter bounce against Blade's unflappable and ill-tempered stoicism. The oil and water dichotomy between the two creates multiple avenues for Hannibal to remind Blade to lighten up.

The Marvel film Black Panther was a film that meant a lot to many, including Oscar-winner Denzel Washington. But Washington wasn’t just a fan of the movie, he helped inspire one of the film’s major characters.

Black Panther featured many memorable characters, and one of them was Michael B. Jordan’s Erik Killmonger. And why did they have to make those sequels? Well, let’s go juuuuuust a bit outside to find out: Wtf Happened to this Movie?!
You might be surprised to know that Major League comes courtesy of the same guy who won an Oscar for writing The Sting.

Da’Vine Joy Randolph only broke out in 2019, but she’s already one of the most talented actors in the business.
Born in 1986 to a Philadelphia family, Randolph has her roots in the theater; at Temple University, she initially studied classical vocal performance and opera, switching her major to musical theater. After graduation, she attended the Yale School of Drama, graduating in 2011 with a Master’s. Immediately out of school, she was cast in the Broadway musical adaptation of “Ghost: The Musical,” and her performance as medium Oda Mae Brown netted her a Tony Award nomination.
From there, Randolph became a regular face on TV and film, frequently playing bit roles in films and shows like “The Angriest Man in Brooklyn,” “Office Christmas Party,” “This Is Us,” “Veep,” “On Becoming a God in Central Florida,” and “Empire.” A main part in the short-lived 2014 series “Selfie” aside, none of these parts were particularly meaty.

Fans have been excited beyond measure for Mahershala Ali’s portrayal of Blade in the new reboot for the MCU. While the character has already been adapted once with Wesley Snipes in the lead, this would be the first time that the character would be shown in the MCU and would appear along with other Marvel characters.

The actor only had a brief voice cameo in the post-credits scene of Eternals but has not made any other appearances since. It was rumored that the actor was not satisfied with the script and was threatening to exit the role after four years of no updates.

Tony Ganios, the actor who made his film debut in Philip Kaufman’s 1979 coming-of-age comedy-drama The Wanderers and played audience favorite Anthony ‘Meat’ Tuperello in the 1980s Porky’s sex comedy franchise, died Sunday following surgery at a hospital in New York. He was 64.

What’s happening in the world of Marvel’s “Blade”? More and more delays, apparently. Announced at Comic-Con 2019, Academy Award winner Mahershala Ali was reportedly the one that sparked Marvel’s interest in the project, approaching the studio that they needed a new version of the Wesley Snipes starring classic for the MCU, and they agreed. “Blade” was announced five years ago but is heading to what sounds like its third or fourth delay, depending on who’s counting.

Of all the upcoming projects from the Marvel Cinematic Universe, a total reboot film Blade starring Mahershala Ali in the lead as the superhero of the same name remains one of the most anticipated movies of Phase 5. This stands all the more truer after Wesley Snipes failed to land the perfect end-film in 2004 for his trilogy of The Vampire Hunter.

Sylvester Stallone and Jackie Chan's only movie together, "An Alan Smithee Film: Burn Hollywood Burn," was a disaster. Despite their admiration for each other, scheduling and creative disagreements have prevented Stallone and Chan from teaming up again. Stallone and Chan have attempted to work together on projects such as "Demolition Man," "Rambo 4," and "The Expendables," but none of these collaborations came to fruition.

Disney's new focus on sequels and existing properties means less emphasis on new characters. The only upcoming MCU movies featuring new characters are Fantastic Four and Blade, and their success will likely determine if they get sequels. Both Fantastic Four and Blade may be facing issues in pre-production, and their ability to overcome these challenges will determine their future in the MCU.
The box office numbers for a few upcoming MCU movies might just have become much more important following reports of Disney's plans to slow down their release schedule. Disney's plans come off the back of CEO Bob Iger's comments that Disney will be focusing less on new characters and putting more emphasis on existing properties. This will mean less obscure projects like Guardians of the Galaxy, which have proven successful for Disney in the past. According to Iger:
“I’d say we’re leaning a little bit more into sequels and franchises.

How many times have you seen this plot: terrorists take over a big (fill in the blank); they easily overcome the personnel there to protect it, yet one brave soul manages to kill or overcome them all and foil their plans. Fill the blank with a battleship or train and you get Under Siege 1 & 2, from when Steven Seagal was still watchable. Make it a high rise or airport? You get Die Hard 1 & 2. A hockey rink during the NHL finals? Sudden Death, with a young Jean Claude Van Damme. Commercial airliner? Wesley Snipes in Passenger 57. Air Force One? “President” Harrison Ford.
These films have two things in common: among even more similarly themed movies, these are just the titles that came to mind while I was watching. Secondly, they’re all better than this new rehash,...

Blade's missing sixth sense power adds tension to the movies, as he can be surprised by vampire attacks. Blade's immunity to vampire hypnosis was likely left out of the movies due to the villains also being immune, making it pointless. While Blade's healing factor is toned down in the movies, his ability to heal rapidly without drinking blood is a key power in the comics.
Though the Wesley Snipes led Blade trilogy is one of the most popular depictions of the character, the three movies didn't showcase Blade's full range of abilities from the comics. The movies do showcase some of his vampire strengths, and also his proficiency with weapons. It's possible that some of Blade's other powers from Marvel Comics may have been a bit too powerful for the movies. It is also possible that the constraints of late '90s special effects limited the options of which powers Blade could have,...

It's been a fascinating career journey for prodigiously talented star Robert Downey Jr., and his late '90s appearance alongside Tommy Lee Jones in U.S. Marshals, the underrated semi-sequel to smash-hit The Fugitive, remains a somewhat forgotten yet still interesting character role for the current Oscar nominee. After making a strong impression in the late '80s and early '90s in a raft of offbeat films (for which he earned some early accolades), the late '90s — specifically 1997 through 1999 — ended up being a bit a transitional period for the Oppenheimer actor, as Downey ended up taking on supporting roles in a diverse group of films that included the relationship drama Wonder Boys, the zany comedy Bowfinger, and the dreamlike psychological horror film In Dreams. But a full decade before Iron Man, the actor's trademark wit and nonchalant cool was also on full display as Special Agent John Royce in U.

Blade's opening scene sets the stage for a thrilling and dark trilogy, showcasing Wesley Snipes' iconic portrayal and establishing the movie's primary themes. The Blade trilogy's commitment to comic-accurate costumes, notably Wesley Snipes' black leather ensemble, adds authenticity and enhances the overall visual experience. The Blade trilogy's fight scenes, exemplifying Wesley Snipes' martial arts prowess, remain a benchmark for excellence, contributing to the trilogy's longevity and influence in the superhero genre.
Though the Blade trilogy has become infamous for its poor third installment, the movies contain a multitude of redeeming features that are still effective two decades after the franchise concluded. 1998's Blade was one of the very first Marvel movies, and its success led to not only two further movies but the superhero movie boom of the early 2000s, and by extension the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe. A poster for a 2024 Netflix reboot of New Jack City starring Mahershala Ali is circulating online, leading many to wonder if the remake of the 1991 movie is real.

Reboots can improve the odds of success by tapping into built-in nostalgia while updating and improving previous entries. Mahershala Ali's involvement in the Blade reboot, along with a multi-billion dollar franchise behind it, gives the project great potential to outshine the previous films. Greta Gerwig's visionary directing style and ability to adapt stories in new and exciting ways makes her the perfect choice to helm a new Netflix adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia.
The film and TV industry can be extremely fickle, especially when choosing new projects, but revisiting older established IPs in a reboot improves the odds of success. Many of the most popular movies and shows currently being released are part of a larger franchise or IP. However, studios need to continue to deliver fresh new stories alongside their growing franchises, and sometimes this can be achieved by looking further back.

Blade's return to the silver screen has been plagued by production issues and multiple delays, leaving fans with growing doubts about the film's release. It seemed like The Expendables franchise would jump the shark with its third film. That entry would bring in such names like Mel Gibson, Antonio Banderas, Kelsey Grammer and Wesley Snipes; however, it would betray its concept by pushing them aside for new blood who had little connection to the 80s/90s action genre that it was celebrating. Even with its fanbase, the third movie was not well-received, so it was perplexing what the intention was with a fourth film. And one that had the audacity to push Sylvester Stallone himself aside. The fourth movie came and went with a whimper, but the film has managed to secure a bevy of nominations…for the Razzie Awards.

Kevin Hart just can't seem to stop making stuff. The comedian can be found everywhere right now, from his Peacock talk show to his standup specials, and of course, Netflix. The biggest current streaming platform has hosted many a Hart-led project in recent years, and most of them have kind of come and gone without too much fanfare. Which is a shame because, at one point, the man convinced the great Wesley Snipes to appear alongside him in "True Story," a limited series partly based on Hart's own experiences. "True Story" topped the Nielsen streaming chart but, as the Chicago Tribune surmised, it sadly "lack[ed] any depth beyond what Snipes is bringing to it."
Now, Hart's at it again, this time with a new film helmed by "Straight Outta Compton" director F. Gary Gray that looks ... similarly kind of ok. In late 2023, the "Lift" trailer arrived, promising a $500 million...

Denzel Washington and Spike Lee's collaborations span multiple genres and have cultural and cinematic significance. "Mo' Better Blues" received mixed reviews, but showcased Lee's signature camerawork and Washington's acting talent. "Malcolm X" was a critically acclaimed biographical epic that earned accolades and preservation in the National Film Registry.
Distinguished by the talent and versatility of two of Hollywood's biggest names, Denzel Washington and Spike Lee collaborations are film treasures to behold despite varying to some degree of notability. The duo share a catalog that grew from the 1990 musical comedy Mo' Better Blues, crossed into the drama and biographical epic genres, and concluded in the action-packed heist film Inside Man in 2006. Their near 15-year collaborative history accounts for endeavors into vastly different genres, narratives, and intentions, yet all of their movies share the critical characteristic of being noteworthy in both cultural and cinematic spaces.

Ryan Coogler turned out to be the perfect choice to direct Black Panther. His film was both critically acclaimed, and one of the highest grossing superhero movies in cinema history. “The Expendables” is one of Hollywood’s most famous and successful action franchises ever. It is known for its very dynamic action sequences and a star-studded ensemble cast with actors renowned for their roles in action movies, with a hint of comic relief woven into the mix. The most exciting part about this franchise is that it is directed by the man of action.

Lots of people dream of making a studio movie, but in the midst of their reverie, they don't always take into account just what a grueling process it can be. People work long hours and are expected to be at their sharpest every day so that the project doesn't fall behind schedule or go over budget. From the director on down, the pressure to deliver is immense. So every now and then, a little levity is in order. This occasionally results in on-set pranks, which sometimes get a tad out of control.
Consider the case of 1996's "The Fan." Tony Scott's thriller about a die-hard San Francisco Giants fan (Robert De Niro) who begins stalking his favorite baseball player (Wesley Snipes) was a high-profile production for Sony. The studio poured $55 million into the movie, and hoped it would be a late-summer, adult-skewing smash à la "The Fugitive" or "Unforgiven.

Usually, when people think of the greatest decade for action movies, the 80s are what they think of. After all, this is the era that gave us Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, the Rambo movies, and so many more. But, the nineties was just as important a decade, giving birth to just as many legends of the genre, and it was the last significant era for R-rated action flicks. But what are the best action movies of the 90s? It’s tough to say, but here are 10, plus an honourable mention, that we think we deserve a place in the pantheon.
Honourable Mention: Demolition Man:

Blade is a cult classic, and an iconic staple of its genre. Of course, at the time of its release, its Marvel foundation was downplayed a bit, unlike the Marvel films of today, and the action-horror elements were at the forefront of its marketing. To be fair, the character himself didn't have such a big presence in the comic book world, with just a few issues to his name, and so, it might be understandable that the creators of the original film deemed it didn't make much sense to hype it up as a "Marvel" film, since virtually no one but the most ardent comic readers would even be aware that the vampire hunter was created by the company. Last week, we learned that Marvel’s seemingly cursed reboot of Blade, starring Mahershala Ali, is starting over for the sixth time, with Michael Green being tapped as screenwriter. Ali allegedly threatened to leave the project due to the writing problems. One script is said to have focused on three female leads, with Blade in a supporting role like Mad Max: Fury Road. Another script was reportedly only 90 pages, which would translate to around 90 minutes on-screen.
Blade was released in 1998, starring Wesley Snipes. It reignited interest in comic book movies after two Batman films turned the genre into a cartoonish joke, and it remains one of the best comic book movies today. Marvel announced in 2019 that they would be relaunching the franchise with Ali in the title role. Ali starred in Green Book in 2018, for which Ali won his second Oscar. Some saw Green Book as falling into the white...

The release date for Marvel’s upcoming Blade reboot has shifted several times already – at one point, it was scheduled to release in 2024 – and we’ve got another new date today.
Most recently slated for release on February 14, 2025, Blade will now daywalk into movie theaters on November 7, 2025. It’ll be the first time the vampire-slaying Marvel Comics character has been seen on the big screen since Blade: Trinity, released back in 2004.
Yann Demange (“Lovecraft Country”) will sit in the director’s chair for Blade’s big screen return in late 2025. Mahershala Ali is starring alongside Mia Goth (X, Pearl).
According to Demange, the upcoming movie will definitely be rated “R.”
Michael Starrbury (When They See Us) wrote the most recent draft of the screenplay, and we recently learned that Nic Pizzolatto (“True Detective”) is now working on the script.
The vampire-slaying character was created by writer Marv Wolfman and artist Gene Colan,...
