Eragon ends with a major cliffhanger, leaving the story incomplete. Flash Gordon hints at a sequel but never materializes, leaving the fate of the characters unknown. Freddy vs. Jason has an unclear winner, with plans for a sequel story only appearing in comics.

Director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo talks to us about his latest film, Damsel, designing an intimidating dragon, and Millie Bobby Brown facing her fears…
The subject of fear comes up in varying forms during our lively chat with Spanish director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo. There’s the fear induced by the glowering dragon that lies at the heart of his latest film, Damsel, which will stream on Netflix from the 8th March.
There’s the fear experienced by rising star Millie Bobby Brown, who was forced to confront her own claustrophobia when making Damsel; the film’s centre-piece is a lengthy fight for survival in a network of caves inhabited by that fearsome dragon, designed by the legendary Patrick Tatopoulos (those cool bat-type aliens in Pitch Black? Those were his).
Then there’s the fear Fresnadillo felt while making horror sequel 28 Weeks Later in 2007 – the process of editing it, he tells us,...

Konami tried something new to inject new blood (no pun intended) into the Castlevania series with 2011’s Lords of Shadow, a new series that completely disregarded the established timeline. The result gave fans a cinematic platformer that dipped into the God of War series with its combat (for good and bad), but ultimately lacked that “something” for many that made it a Castlevania game. With Lords of Shadow 2, those hoping that things would get better were ultimately disappointed. It also didn’t help that reports after the game’s release illustrated Lords of Shadow 2‘s troubled development. But with 10 years now gone by, is that disappointment also lessened?
After the events of Lords of Shadow, where protagonist Gabriel Belmont (Robert Carlyle) becomes the vampire known as Dracula, Lords of Shadow 2 sees Gabriel awaken 1000 years after an encounter with his son, Alucard (Richard Madden), weakened and with no memory of why...

Colin O'Donoghue believes that Once Upon A Time's potential revival chances are high if it picks up where it left off, as fairy tales are timeless and popular among families. However, the chances of a direct sequel are slim due to the characters' fulfilled endings and potential difficulty in reuniting the ensemble cast. A reboot with a new cast and fresh storylines could be the best way to revive interest in the beloved and unique fantasy series.
Colin O'Donoghue has his own opinions about the future of Once Upon A Time. Focusing on modern fairy tales, the show features characters from numerous stories as they interact with one another and struggle to regain their long-lost memories. The show premiered in 2011 and came to an end in 2018 after over 150 episodes. Over its years on TV, it left a strong legacy for ABC. O'Donoghue was a major star, having played the legendary Captain Hook.

In 2002, audiences were captivated by the British horror film 28 Days Later by director Danny Boyle. Made on a budget of $8 million, the movie was a breakout global hit, grossing $85 million worldwide, and redefined the zombie genre for the 21st century. Of the many terribly interesting things touched on in Danny Boyle’s smart and skillful adaptation of Irvine Welsh’s 1993 debut novel, Trainspotting, it’s most tempting to contemplate facets that are only mildly developed. There is, for instance, the pointed, oddly chilling, and deeply funny monologue that Renton (Ewan McGregor), the closest thing that the audience is given to a hero here, delivers in opposition to his straight-arrow friend’s buoyant Scottish nationalism. As Renton barks at Tommy (Kevin McKidd), personal despondency is connected directly to lack of a unique cultural identity, which Renton is quick to see as a reflection of Scotland’s muddled ties to the United Kingdom.
The whole spiel doesn’t quite account for the astounding amount of heroin that Renton and his cronies pump into their corroded veins, attained through various burglaries and scams, but coupled with the dour, decrepit environs of Glasgow and...

How far will you go to deny your identity in order to be a somebody? What happens when you make a deal with a devil whom you might normally despise, but has transfixed much of an entire nation’s population? And how long can you will yourself to ignore evidence of the intolerable? These are just a few of the questions raised — sometimes with allusive finesse, sometimes with blunt-force impact — during “The Performance,” an enthralling period drama with often disquieting contemporary relevance.
If you have roamed through this cinematic territory before, you may discern in Shira Piven’s exceptional film traces of “Cabaret,” “Mephisto” and other tales of ambitious entertainers striving for the spotlight as Adolf Hitler’s shadow spreads over 1930s Germany. But this largely faithful adaptation and intelligent expansion of a 2002 short story by Arthur Miller ultimately stands on its own merits as both vivid historical recreation and riveting cautionary fable,...

Tom Wilkinson, a character actor who was also adept when called upon to play leading parts, has died. The charismatic performer, able to embody both warm, relatable heroes and cunning villains, was 75.
Born in Leeds before moving to Canada and then Cornwall in childhood, Wilkinson knew he was destined to work in entertainment at the age of 18 when he was asked to direct a play.
He trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art (Rada) before forging a career in theatre, film and TV. In 1986, he got his first major screen role in mini-series First Among Equals, based on politician-turned-author Jeffrey Archer’s best-selling novel.
That kicked off a successful career on screens big and small, with his film resume including the likes of Shakespeare In Love, Batman Begins, Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol, The Grand Budapest Hotel, Girl With A Pearl Earring, The Patriot, Selma, Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind,...

Danny Boyle's "28 Days Later" emerged as a jarring entry in the zombie-horror genre for several reasons. Primarily, the film introduced a brand of infected that defied conventional attitudes associated with the shuffling undead, as their hunger in this context is defined by uncontrollable, murderous rage. Aptly dubbed the Rage virus, this epidemic grips the streets of Britain and pushes this corner of the world towards an apocalypse, leaving scant survivors to reckon with a reality too brutal to comprehend. The true merit of "28 Days Later" is its ability to distill grounded apocalyptic fears into a visceral sense of dread, which is overcome and channeled into hope for humanity in the end.
This flickering hope is unceremoniously crushed in Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's "28 Weeks Later," which, as the title suggests, picks up exactly 28 weeks after the Rage virus outbreak. Although the sequel lacks the startling humanity of...

For decades since its heyday, the horror genre has followed the stories of a wide variety of protagonists who find themselves in various terrifying situations. From slashers to zombie apocalypse movies, these characters come in all forms and power levels, from some movies following tough heroes to others focusing on the vulnerable. Quite often, stories centered around weak characters become the genre's most compelling entries.
Horror movie protagonists are often written as being at an extreme disadvantage to their villains, making their experience all the more harrowing. This disparity can also make it even more satisfying to see the heroes win, effectively giving fans an underdog story from an unlikely source. These so-called final girls and final boys are some of the genre's most iconic characters, and their unlikely victories can make them even more interesting.

Though not the most popular of subgenres within film, horror westerns have been gaining decent, fan-favorite traction as of late. The earliest example is The Rawhide Terror (1934), directed by Bruce M. Mitchell and Jack Nelson from a script that was penned by the latter. From there, one other horror western from the earlier years of Hollywood remains worth noting today. Featuring Michael Pate as a vampire gunfighter, Curse of the Undead (1959) isn't held in high regard, or anything. But it is noted by historians as an early example of a western-horror film.
It would be several more decades before the subgenre truly took off with regard to worldwide popularity. Filmmakers pumped out B-movie-level products until a certain release in the 1980s, called Near Dark (1987). A neo-Western horror hybrid, it's one of the greatest films of its kind, seeing direction under the great Kathryn Bigelow from a script she co-wrote alongside Eric Red.

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak and other politicians are hilariously depicted in a Trainspotting parody that critiques their inconsistent policies and controversial actions. The parody, titled "Trainstopping," cleverly reimagines the opening sequences of Trainspotting with political figures like Sunak, Liz Truss, Boris Johnson, Theresa May, and David Cameron. This darkly comedic parody by PoliticsJOE effectively captures the chaotic changes and controversies brought by the current Conservative government, providing both entertainment and a critique of the UK's political landscape.

Once Upon a Time's Emilie De Ravin left the series after season 6, resulting in her character, Belle, having little involvement in the final season. Belle's storyline in Once Upon a Time mostly revolved around her challenging relationship with Rumplestiltskin, culminating in the birth of their son and a battle for his morality. De Ravin expressed her desire to continue with the series but acknowledged that the showrunners felt Belle's character arc had reached its conclusion. Eragon, the 2006 film based on Christopher Paolini's novel of the same name, was a complete disaster for a multitude of reasons. Paolini's Inheritance Cycle, of which Eragon is the first book, has been extremely successful worldwide, despite the failure of the movie. Luckily for fans of the Inheritance Cycle, the series is being adapted once again, this time as a television series on Disney+. If Disney's Eragon TV show is going to redeem the movie, it will be essential to understand what went wrong the first time.
Audiences and critics were united in their disappointment when Eragon came out in 2006, but identifying the sources of their disappointment may not be as easy as Disney thinks. Eragon performed remarkably badly, and there were few positives to take away from the film. As such, Disney may have to rely on the books to find the right formula for its Eragon adaptation.

Whether they are good, bad, or simply incomplete endings, there are just some movie cliffhangers that viewers will never get answers for. Often, it's a pity that certain cliffhangers won't ever have the chance to be resolved, especially for stories that clearly demand a next chapter in order to be truly complete. This is especially true for movies that weren't supposed to be the last entries in their respective franchises. Sometimes, however, an unanswered cliffhanger is the perfect way to conclude a movie.
From the best to the worst movie endings, a cliffhanger finale can determine how a movie is remembered by audiences throughout the years. After all, it's the last scene that viewers see. Cliffhangers can also set up sequels - or mark failed attempts at launching a sequel or franchise. Either way, cliffhangers create suspense and expectation - but also disappointment if they're left forever unresolved. Here are...

28 Days Later director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland are hoping to make a third installment of the zombie series, though Boyle will only return if Garland does not direct the film himself.
"I resisted it for a long time because there were things about 28 Weeks that bugged me," Garland told Inverse. "I just thought, 'F*ck that. I'd rather try to write a different story in a different world.'" The Academy Award-nominated writer added, "A few years ago an idea materialized in my head for what would be really 28 Years Later. "If [Garland] doesn't want to direct it himself I'll be well up for it, if we can execute a similarly good idea."

The undead may rise again in the potential sequel 28 Years Later. Back in 2002, director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland released their acclaimed zombie movie 28 Days Later. Starring Oppenheimer's Cillian Murphy, the film picks up with a man in London awakening from a coma to discover that the city has been decimated by a highly contagious zombie-like virus. The film is among the most highly-praised zombie movies ever made, even going on to directly inspire the immensely successful TV series The Walking Dead.
In 2007, a sequel was released. Called 28 Weeks Later, the follow-up film was directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo who co-wrote the screenplay with Rowan Joffe, Enrique Lopez Lavigne, and Jesus Olmo. As the title suggests, the film is set around 28 weeks after the viral outbreak, though it follows a new cast of characters that included Robert Carlyle, Rose Byrne, Jeremy Renner, Harold Perrineau, and Idris Elba.

Warning: The following contains Spoilers for The Full Monty reboot.
The reboot series brings back fan-favorite icons in The Full Monty reboot cast and also introduces some intriguing new characters. When it was released in 1997, The Full Monty became a surprise hit. It was nominated for four Academy Awards, grossed more than $247 million (via Box Office Mojo), and was acclaimed by critics, earning a near-perfect Rotten Tomatoes score of 96%. The Full Monty was noted for using its raunchy, humorous high-concept premise of a group of men putting on a striptease act to address serious social issues like unemployment, divorce, sexual identity, and mental health.
It was ranked in the 25th spot on the BFI’s list of the top 100 British films of all time (via the BBC), so it made sense to revisit these beloved characters and tell a new story. The sequel series released on FX, Hulu, and Disney+ and picked up 25 years later.

Welsh told the UK’s Observer newspaper:

It’s been roughly a quarter century since the men of Sheffield, England, danced onstage going The Full Monty, and a lot has happened. In FX’s limited series, you won’t see any steelworkers stripping to “You Sexy Thing.” “No one wants to see that,” star Robert Carlyle says, laughing. Despite retaining the 1997 film’s title, the eight-episode comedic drama from original writer Simon Beaufoy shines a light on new challenges faced by the local community and its rascally inhabitants, raising awareness around education and poverty. You know, there didn’t need to be a sequel to 28 Days Later. The influential zombie movie by Danny Boyle and Alex Garland had a pretty definitive ending, with the rage virus seemingly burnt out in the UK and help coming from overseas.
But then came the surprisingly solid sequel 28 Weeks Later in 2007, in which director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo told an interesting Gulf War allegory starring Robert Carlyle, Idris Elba, and Jeremy Renner. That’s when we all started asking, “What about 28 Years Later?”
We still have a way to go before we hit the 28th anniversary of the 2002 release of 28 Days Later, but Boyle and screenwriter Alex Garland are ready to start planning. In an oral history of the movie published by Inverse, Garland revealed that “a few years ago an idea materialized in my head for what would be really 28 Years Later. Danny always liked the idea.

Samuel L. Jackson is such a great ensemble player, but his comedic talents are often utilized for the sake of expositional chunks in major blockbusters. There are certain filmmakers like Spike Lee and Quentin Tarantino who really know how to utilize Jackson’s comedic range. However, recent films like Robocop, The Legend of Tarzan, and a majority of his performances as Nick Fury within the Marvel Cinematic Universe do nothing more than bring Jackson in to add one-liners in between expositional chunks. However, the underrated buddy comedy film Formula 51 (previously called The 51st State) was the rare time he got to play a lead role beyond an elevated cameo. It was a film that showed why Jackson worked so well in both action and comedy roles, and it also gave him the chance to star opposite Robert Carlyle.

Whether they invite them or not, there are few stories where imagining what comes next is impossible. Part of the appeal of popular, lasting films and series is that they occupy a slice of a world, with the promise that something interesting might be happening elsewhere. Amidst the avalanche of brand extensions and franchise retreads and character revivals, “The Full Monty” feels like the kind of plucky independent film hit that could provide a foundation for a “where are they now” story that doesn’t feel like a cynical cash grab or marketing play. A quarter century after the original movie found success in a number of different arenas, a new FX series aims to revisit a ragtag group in the north England city of Sheffield to see what happens a generation after a sensation.

The entire cast of 1997’s feel-good hit “The Full Monty” is back for Hulu’s new series of the same name — even Wim Snape, who played young Nathan at age 11, returns to play the much more sensible son of Robert Carlyle’s charming but unreliable Gaz. But some things are different this time around as the crew reunites for the Hulu sequel series (which drops June 14), with Oscar-nominated scripter Simon Beaufoy co-writing with Alice Nutter.
The series finds the crew still trying various get-rich schemes with mixed to dismal results.
