At a time when syndicated science fiction was just Star Trek series, it took some guts on Warner Bros’ part to try something darker and more experimental with J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5, designed to tell a sprawling epic that was more political than it was space opera. The show arrived thirty years ago and was successful enough to spawn spin-off five telefilms and a short-lived spinoff, spanning 1993-2007.
The core of it, the 110 episodes from the original five-season series, have been remastered and collected on a nice Blu-ray box set from Warner Home Entertainment. Also included is the original pilot film.
Set in the 23rd century, the Earth Alliance has found its place among star-faring races, notably the Minbari and the Centauri. Some of these races are fine with humans; others wish them gone. Then there are the Vorlons, and no one knows what they want.

It may have taken a long time to get here, but Babylon 5 is finally making the leap to Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment announced today that all five seasons of the iconic sci-fi series will be released on Blu-ray on December 5th.

You can check out the official box art for Babylon 5: The Complete Series below, which strangely doesn’t feature the titular space station.
All five seasons of Babylon 5 were scanned and remastered from the original camera negative in 4K, with a colour correction and the cleaning of dirt and scratches as well. The many CGI shots of the series have been digitally upscaled to HD, and short of a complete remaster, that’s probably...

A “Babylon 5” reboot is in development at The CW, Variety has learned.
Original series creator J. Michael Straczynski is onboard to write the project. He will also executive producer under his Studio Jms banner. Warner Bros. Television, which produced the original series, will produce the reboot.
The new iteration of the sci-fi series is described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot.” In the series, John Sheridan, an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last,...

On Friday night at the Ford Amphitheater in Los Angeles, Carlton Cuse — one of Lost's showrunners — said that although he's admittedly biased, he considers Michael Giacchino's score for the show to be the best music ever composed for a television series. I agree with him, and in a way, I'm also biased: the show has meant a tremendous amount to me over the years, largely for being one of the first things my wife and I connected over. (The first time we hung out was at a special Lost Live performance of the music back in 2010.) But even attempting to remove my personal attachment to the show and look at it objectively, Giacchino's score is so much better than the music for nearly anything else on TV.

Without a doubt, Doug Jones is one of our favorite actors. The personable, prolific performer always has some interesting projects to talk about, and he recently sat down with Dread Central to discuss some current and future endeavors.
Jones began by describing an intriguing new movie series. Space Command: Redemption is the first installment in a proposed franchise.
"It's an original piece by writer/director Mark Zicree, who has such a pedigree in writing for film and television in the science fiction genre," Jones said, "a hugely decorated writer who has written for everything from "Star Trek: Incarnation" to "Babylon 5" and beyond. So there's elements of all that. It's got all the trappings of a science fiction show that takes place in space, but it also has a warm, heartfelt soul that's unlike anything I've read and I think that's what attracted me to it. And to be surrounded...

Chicago – Legendary is one way to describe C2E2 – the Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo. Comic book and pop culture fans gathered at McCormick Place in Chicago from April 26-28, 2013, for three days of celebration with their favorite comic, movie, game and television celebrities, and HollywoodChicago.com was there.
One of the highlights of the expo were two stars from the hot HBO epic series, “Game of Thrones,” Natalie Dormer and James Cosmo. Like many of the celebrity participants, they held a forum at which fans asked questions about the current season. AMC’s “The Walking Dead” also was also represented, with Laurie Holden and Chandler Riggs holding court. And there were old favorites like Julie Newmar and Burt Ward of the 1966 classic TV series “Batman,” signing autographs and greeting admirers.

Werewolves, Wookiees, Orcs and Klingons abound at pop culture expos and major comic book conventions but one truly rare beast is innovation – the names and faces of guests change but at most shows the standard Q&A panel and autograph table line-up are the numbing rule of thumb.
The limited thinking at most cons makes it heartening to hear about some of the offbeat concepts at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2), which kicked off today at McCormick Place, the largest convention center in North America. Cirkus Columbia
Directed by Danis Tanovic
Written and Directed by Danis Tanovic and Ivica Djikic
Bosnia & Herzegovina, 2010
The situation is a familiar one; a middle-aged man returns to his former hometown with a beautiful young girlfriend and shows off his good fortune to his old friends. When Divko Buntic (Miki Manojlovic) pulls up in a luxury car into the small Bosnian town, the onlookers’ response is the expected mix of jealousy and hatred. After making it big in Germany, he returns triumphantly to showcase his power in the newly capitalist Bosnia region. His next step is to kick his estranged wife and young adult son out of their house and move right inside. This premise appears to set up an obvious family drama, but the actual result provides an interesting shift on our expectations.
Set in 1991 just prior to the Yugoslav Wars, Cirkus Columbia offers an intimate look at the...

Ten years ago, director Danis Tanovic won nearly every major film award worldwide (including Golden Globe and Academy Awards) for his exceptional anti-war film No Man’S Land. Using the Bosnian/Serbian conflict in Herzegovina as a backdrop, No Man’S Land used tension, humor, satire, and excellent performances to set a new tone for war films. It has influenced nearly every war film since, most notably another Oscar-winner, The Hurt Locker
Now, in only his fourth feature film, Tanovic has returned to this incredibly tragic setting to tell another story with an anti-war theme. However, this one’s message is more oblique and unsettling, because it reminds us that war isn’t just about armies and politicians or beliefs and bureaucracies. It is also — maybe most importantly – about families.
Divko is a middle-aged man who has returned to his hometown after 20 years, and he has returned with gusto.

Bonne Fête Nationale! It's July 14 (or 14 July for you Euros), which means it's time to celebrate all things French.
And while some might choose to commemorate the 1789 storming of the Bastille with fancy wine and cheese spreads or by playing "La Marseillaise" on repeat, we'll be camping out in front of the tube with some of our favorite French TV characters.
You might be surprised to know that there aren't a whole lot of them, but we've come up with 10 who you shouldn't have a hard time tracking down if your francophone heart wants company.
Here they are, in their mostly fake-accented and cliche name glory:
Luc Laurent (Gilles Marini), "Brothers and Sisters"
Fans of the ABC family soap were probably sad to see the series canceled this year for many reasons -- but few give us more pause than the fact that we'll no longer see Gilles Marini in our home every week.

Count me as one of the people who rolled their eyes when NBC made the decision to axe the reinvigorated Law & Order right before it made TV history, only to replace it with this West Coast spinoff in the same timeslot. Why, I thought, do you get rid of a show that’s getting its second wind…and then why do you replace it with a version of itself? It seemed a slap in the face to Law & Order fans.
The show didn’t do itself any favors with its unorthodox opening sequence, which threw out the beloved Steve Zirnkilton narration in favor of just putting the show’s logo over a black-and-white map of the Los Angeles area and the beat of some pop music. In fact, it makes the unfortunate choice to bypass an opening sequence altogether, going for the now-commonplace tactic of running credits over the first act.

If you read the title "Law & Order: Los Angeles," you know pretty well what to expect from the TV show, right?
And you'd be right, because while the original "Law & Order" is no more and the new show -- which debuts at 10 p.m. Et Wednesday -- is set on the opposite coast, it's still part of the "Law & Order" brand, which means the cops are smart, the prosecutors dogged and the perps doomed. That, and you'll hear the "chung-chung" sound several times per episode.
On all those counts, "L&O: La" delivers. There's a baseline of quality -- well-produced, plot-driven, generally smartly cast and acted -- to all the "L&O" shows, and it's evident here as well. Starting from there, we're going to look at the individual elements in the new show and how well they measure up to the standard set by 40-plus previous seasons of the various "Law & Orders.

Ok, here we are to continue our little chat about this year’s Venice Film Festival and some interesting titles that we’ll have a chance to see on its traditional home on the Venice Lido.
Mira Furlan and Miki Manojlovic in Cirkus Columbia
Danis Tanovic (No Man’s Land, Triage) and his project Cirkus Columbia is definitely one of them, which is already being described as a “romantic saga” which “covers the end of a century that tragically announced the arrival of a new era in the Balkans”.
Here’s the Cirkus Columbia synopsis: “A small town in south Herzegovina, in the wake of the war. After years of communist rule, a new democratic government is elected, and this means that all the sinners of the ex-system are suddenly forgiven.
This is a sign for Divko Buntic to return home and start a series of little revenges after years of exile.

For those of you who’ve never heard of Dubrovnik, let me clue you in. It is one of Eastern Europe’s oldest cities and hottest Mediterranean tourist spots. Situated on the Croatian Riviera on the Adriatic Sea, this ancient fairy tale city is the home of the annual Libertas Film Festival, which I had the pleasure of attending earlier this month. Celebrating its sixth consecutive year, the Libertas Ff represents freedom, creativity and harmony that the once sovereign state was built on. Surrounded by beautiful islands, the historic city is defined by its marvelous architecture, mesmerizing landscape, endless monuments and bountiful resources. So while most fanboys and film geeks were anxiously counting down the days to San Diego’s annual Comic Con, the rest of us film and travel enthusiasts were frolicking in this heavenly destination, hobnobbing with talented filmmakers and actors, and screening a variety of acclaimed, independent and unique foreign films.

The man behind Ben Linus has bittersweet emotions about this week's finale
By Adam Rosenberg, with reporting by Josh Wigler

On Tuesday night's "Lost," Michael Emerson's Benjamin Linus was pulled in two directions. On the Island, the always-devious former Other recovered from his recent efforts to repent, killing Charles Widmore and allying himself with the malevolent entity that fans have come to know as the Smoke Monster. Meanwhile, in the sideways timeline, a kinder, gentler Linus was introduced by favorite student Alex (Tania Raymonde) to her mother, the long-departed Danielle Rousseau (Mira Furlan).
Similarly, Emerson finds himself pulled in opposite directions as the much-beloved series that he is a fundamental part of approaches its two-and-a-half-hour finale this Sunday. While there are certainly some things that he won't miss, he told MTV News that it's a bittersweet parting.

Similarly, Emerson finds himself pulled in opposite directions as the much-beloved series that he is a fundamental part of approaches its two-and-a-half-hour finale this Sunday. While there are certainly some things that he won't miss, he told MTV News that it's a bittersweet parting.
