Gil Grissom's exit posed a challenge for CSI's producers in finding a suitable replacement. Catherine Willows, Dr. Ray Langston, and D.B. Russell were all attempted replacements for Grissom. Petersen's iconic portrayal made finding a replacement for him challenging.
William Petersen as Gil Grissom was the face of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation for several seasons until his exit from the series, and CBS tried to replace Grissom numerous times until the show ended in 2015. The procedural forensics crime drama television series, created by Anthony E. Zuiker, ran for 15 seasons after its premiere in October 2000, and its cultural impact is significant and undeniable. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation was the beginning of a franchise, including multiple spin-offs. But the original show is undoubtedly the franchise at its greatest.

Episode proves CSI: Vegas isn't reliant on tech gimmicks. Inside jokes add fun, but Penny's subplot feels late. Beau and Catherine still struggle to mesh as partners.
The following contains major spoilers from CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 5, "It Was Automation," which debuted Sunday, March 24 on CBS.
The CSI franchise hasn't been afraid to try odd things, and CSI: Vegas Season 3 takes a surprising turn with "It Was Automation," which asks viewers whether or not a high-tech robot is a murder weapon or the actual perpetrator. This isn't even the weirdest episode of the show (that's still the clowns from Season 1), nor is it the most original. But it works because writer Dave Metzger is having a ridiculous amount of fun with the most basic of technothriller ideas.
In "It Was Automation," Robert Cuevas is killed during a factory night shift -- despite being the sole human in the building. Meanwhile,...

The following contains major spoilers for CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 4, "Health and Wellness," which debuted Sunday, March 17 on CBS. It also contains discussion of cannibalism.
Having concluded its ongoing story arc, the first wholly standalone episode of CSI: Vegas Season 3 is "Health and Wellness," which puts more focus on its case of the week than any issues at the Las Vegas Crime Lab. In fact, the crime lab is secondary to what happens at the scene of its investigation. This pivot also allows the show to finally give some sizeable screen time to Allie Rajan, after Mandeep Dhillon's character was placed in more of a supporting role at the start of the season.
Allie has proven to be an excellent character in the CSI franchise -- both in what she brings to it individually and in her developing relationship with Josh Folsom. She is the Catherine to Folsom's...

The impactful episode "Anonymous" showcases early engagement with a serial killer case and unique scientific work by the team. CSI: Vegas provides opportunities for early CSI characters to wrap up their character arcs in the long-running franchise. Actors returning for reboots and spin-offs is common in network television, giving CSI: Vegas a wealth of characters and episodes to draw from. Iconic characters like Gil Grissom, Sara Sidle, and Catherine Willows have already made appearances in CSI: Vegas, setting a precedent for more to return.
The CSI franchise is well-known for its many spin-offs and crossovers, and with the prominence of the latest series, CSI: Vegas, there are new opportunities for early CSI characters to join the show. Actors returning for a reboot or spin-off is common practice in network television, and a franchise like CSI is rife with opportunities because of how long-running its shows are. Well, that was one predictable conclusion.
The final fate was reached for criminologist Josh Folsom on CSI: Vegas Season 3 Episode 3.
Unsurprisingly, Josh is still working for the Las Vegas crime lab.
That's no shock. Matt Lauria (Friday Night Lights) is arguably the biggest name among the new cast members.
In a strike-shortened season, discarding such a character would make no sense, unless the actor involved has decided to bail out on the series.
So, it was evident that Folsom would come out the other side of the review board. The question to be determined was in what shape he would emerge.
Throughout this whole Jeannette storyline, Josh has been his own worst enemy.
Gone was the meticulous CSI admired by his teammates. In his place was a scared little boy from the wrong side of the tracks, standing up for his mother, who wouldn't help herself.

CSI innovated crime procedurals by focusing on scientific experts instead of traditional detectives, filling a unique niche. Realism in cases and investigations elevated the show's authority, shaping cultural perceptions of forensic storytelling. The show's attention to detailed forensics, innovative lighting, and memorable characters set a new standard for crime dramas.
The crime procedural is one of the most popular genres of television, and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation consistently innovated the formula better than any other offerings on TV. This is thanks to the unique perspective the show brings through its choice of investigators and crimes. Focusing on the scientific experts instead of the detectives offered a unique opportunity for CSI to fill a much-needed niche. Instead of chasing down criminals, CSI makes long nights spent in the lab just as thrilling.
Not only was the original series a success but so were its spin-offs, which incurred many CSI crossover episodes and events.

An intriguing closure for fans of CSI: Vegas, solving the Raphael Tarquenio case with a unique twist. Emotional impact falls short in the resolution, lacking the punch of previous episodes. The subplot with Serena as a mole within the CSI team feels forced, resulting in a lackluster reveal.
The following contains major spoilers for CSI: Vegas Season 3, Episode 2, "Scar Tissue," which debuted Sunday, February 26 on CBS.
CSI: Vegas creates a neat duology with "Scar Tissue," providing Catherine Willows' side of the Raphael Tarquenio case. The episode allows audiences to see Catherine's point of view on the drug baron, and it does serve up the answers that viewers will be expecting to get. However, it lacks the punch CSI provided with its Season 3 premiere.

Last year, CSI: Vegas was CBS' lowest-rated scripted series to be renewed, and it was also one of the network's lowest-rated series overall. The network's studio produces the series, and it's connected to a popular franchise, but that may not be enough to save it this time if the ratings stay low. Will CSI: Vegas be cancelled or renewed for season four? Stay tuned.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for the CSI: Vegas Season 3 premiere “The Reaper.”] Is Josh Folsom (Matt Lauria) a murderer? That’s the question CSI: Vegas left fans with between seasons and one that the rest of the Crime Lab must ask in the premiere. Not only do we find out what happened the night Josh learned he had his mother’s killer in front of him, but we also get a tease of a major storyline for Catherine (Marg Helgenberger) for the season. Allie (Mandeep Dhillon) thinks Josh is covering for Trey (Daniel Di Tomasso), and when the other man ends up in custody as well, after crashing the car of a drug lord, Rafael (Benito Martinez), into his own stash house (in the back of a frozen yogurt shop), the best friends do try to protect one another. The truth is, both left and while Khan’s body shows signs of torture and being bound (twice!

The adventures of Conan the Barbarian are not, in their purest form, for children. Created by pulp author Robert E. Howard in 1932, the Cimmerian warrior inhabits a cruel world ruled by those who are handiest with a sword or endowed with the power of sorcery. Though Conan is uncommonly chivalric, he is utterly ruthless in combat — and Howard's battle scenes are described in invigoratingly vicious detail. There are impalements and beheadings and wholesale eviscerations. There are also orgies and elements of bondage. But the presence of wizards and dragons and all kinds of nasty monsters means Conan's tales are catnip for kids.
There have been efforts to tone down the sex and violence of Conan's tales, but they are essential to his appeal. Howard wrote with a boundless fury; he roared and raged as he bashed away at his typewriter. The savagery is the point. If you want sanitized, kid-friendly fantasy,...

CSI: Vegas season 3 will start with the team investigating the murder of Kahn Schefter and unraveling the mystery. Photos show Serena visiting Josh in jail, while the rest of the team carries on with their investigations. Each episode of CSI: Vegas will likely feature a different crime, despite Josh's ongoing imprisonment. Premiere is delayed to winter season.
New images from CSI: Vegas offer insight into Josh's life behind bars. The crime show honors CSI: Crime Scene Investigation by returning to Las Vegas and revisiting some classic characters. After two seasons, it was approved for season three, which was significantly delayed by the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, which ended on November 9. Because of the delays, the premiere has been pushed from the fall to the winter season.
Since the tragic season 2 ending left Josh imprisoned, CSI: Vegas season 3 will be starting off with the team attempting to unravel the mystery behind the murder of Kahn Schefter.

When CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered on CBS on October 6, 2000, the long-running crime thriller changed the police procedural genre forever. Instead of making interpersonal relationships the series' focus, CSI was all about forensic science. When the show premiered, using DNA evidence to prosecute criminals was a relatively new thing. In fact, the first case to ever use DNA in this way was in a rape-murder case in the UK in 1986. Needless to say, in the early 2000s, most people had no idea what was possible regarding DNA profiling. For a show that led with the forensics, it also did a phenomenal job crafting intriguing characters, particularly in graveyard shift CSI assistant supervisor Catherine Willows, played by the marvelous Marg Helgenberger.

Strong characters, especially the leaders of the crime lab, are key to the success of CSI. Empathy and scientific skills are vital for a leader, but being too emotionally invested or not available enough can harm the team dynamic. Different leaders in the CSI universe have varying levels of success. Liev Schreiber's Michael Keppler was unpopular, while Ted Danson's Db Russell was loved for his sense of humor. Marg Helgenberger's Catherine Willows made mistakes but was consistent and competent. Paula Newsome's Max Roby in CSI: Vegas brings a new type of leader to the series. She is emotional and uses her emotions to fuel her work, creating a positive environment for her team. Mac Taylor in CSI: NY is tough and values not cutting corners, but also forms close bonds with his team despite his own emotional pain.

The final episodes are almost here. All Rise Season 4 premieres on Saturday, September 16, and they're bringing the drama.
OWN TV dropped the official season trailer, which teases loss, romance, returns, and riveting cases.
It’s hard to believe this is the end since we’ve grown to love these characters, but hopefully, OWN had enough time to craft a proper goodbye.
At the end of All Rise Season 3 Episode 10, Brandon Nation had caused senseless violence and possibly killed Ness and Teddy.
We’re still unsure if one or both of them die, but Lola is on the warpath to prevent more violence.
Lola’s marriage was also in jeopardy since Andre took advantage of her fear and kissed her, and Robin walked in at that moment.
Can she and Robin work things out and learn to communicate their needs better?
The other couples are finally flourishing. Luke and Emily finally...

We have unfortunate but expected news about OWN's thrilling courtroom drama All Rise.
The series has been canceled after three seasons.
Truthfully, the writing had been on the wall for some time.
All Rise Season 3 Episode 10 aired a year ago, and the series has been on hiatus ever since -- never a good sign for any series.
In March, Deadline reported that the entire cast had been released, meaning that new deals would have to be reached if negotiations got underway for a fourth season.
As a result, the series has faced an uphill battle since its move to the cable network after CBS swung the axe following All Rise Season 2.
The only silver lining here is that we still have ten episodes of All Rise left to air.
They will begin airing on Saturday, September 16, at 9 p.m. Et/Pt.

Et/Pt.

It’s official. The third season of OWN’s courtroom drama series All Rise will be its last.
Starring and exec produced by Simone Missick, the final 10 episodes (Season 3B) will premiere on Saturday, September 16 at 9 pm on OWN.
This is the first official confirmation that the series not see a fourth season. As Deadline reported in March, the cast had been released by producing studio Warner Bros. Television ahead of the Season 3B run and cancellation was expected.
“We are extremely proud of the positive impact All Rise has made in showcasing strong, accomplished Black female characters,” OWN President Tina Perry said. “We are so grateful to all of our creative collaborators and wish to thank the talented cast and crew for their dedication and incredible work on the series.”

This may be the season that CSI: Vegas finally stands on its own two feet.
In its first two seasons, this hybrid has faced a difficult challenge. It's not a revival of the popular series, which ran for 15 seasons on CBS. It isn't a reboot, with new characters repopulating an old concept.
Instead, in its first two seasons, CSI: Vegas has featured a couple of legacy characters to draw in viewers of the original series.
In CSI: Vegas Season 1, power couple Gil Grissom (William Peterson) and Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) returned to clear the lab's reputation and former lab rat David Hodges (Wallace Langham) from a well-crafted frame.
Meanwhile, seemingly in the background, the lab's new criminologists solved the day-to-day cases.
What Were the Highlights of CSI: Vegas Season 2?
The second season struck a better balance between new and old. It almost had to.
The return of Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) was well handled.

Judge Lola Carmichael and her team of attorneys have kept us entertained with their fight for justice and their own drama for almost three seasons.
Unfortunately, the long wait for the second half of All Rise Season 3 is killing the momentum. It hasn't aired in a year, and its future beyond the filmed episodes is up in the air.
The show will be back on the air at some point, though, and we've rounded up everything there is to know about what could be the final-ever episodes.
All Rise Season 3 Episode 10 ended bittersweetly since two lives hung in the balance due to Brandon Nation.
While couples reuniting during a tragedy is overdone, seeing Luke rush to save Emily and Maddy from Leo and the two finally admit their feelings were long overdue.
It was such an emotional scene, but viewers want happier times instant of continuous angst for Luke and Emily.

It’s Day 1 of the SAG-AFTRA strike and Day 74 of the WGA strike.
The stars are out in force on the first day of the actors strike and, as Parks and Recreation co-creator Mike Schur said, “Now a thousand very attractive people have shown up and joined the lines, it’s an enormous amount of wind in our sails”.
Schur, a member of the WGA negotiating committee who also starred as Mose Schrute on The Office, was joined by a slew of big-name actors including Allison Janney, Timothy Olyphant, Josh Gad, Ben Schwartz, Sean Astin, Charlie Barnett, Joey King, Chloe Fineman, Susan Sarandon, Ginnifer Goodwin, Patton Oswalt, Marg Helgenberger, Jake McDorman, Constance Zimmer, Michelle Hurd and Jason Sudeikis across picket lines in LA and New York.
Skye P. Marshall, who is a lead on CBS’ upcoming reboot of Matlock alongside Kathy Bates, told Deadline that the actors’ craft needs to be respected.
