From venue changes and the pandemic to political backlash and the threat of litigation, Salem Horror Fest founder and director Kay Lynch has never been one to back down. The festival’s seventh annual event, which kicked off last night at Salem’s Peabody Essex Museum, was further proof of her resilience.
After its original headliner, Hocus Pocus star Kathy Najimy, canceled with less than 48 hours notice, the festival’s entire opening night ceremony was restructured. On lieu of the original $50 ticket charge, the program was made free (with the option to make a donation), costing the festival an untold amount of money.
But the show must go on — and it did so in spectacular fashion with horror icon Linnea Quigley sitting down for a live interview, while the Hocus Pocus screening was replaced by The People’s Joker, previously scheduled to be the festival’s closing film.

If you are concerned that the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus won’t be back for 2024’s Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party, rest assured that they are. Do you have what it takes to be this year’s Winifred, Mary, or Sarah?
Are there any actors out there? Maybe you’ve always wanted to break into the business. Then Disney Careers is where you should head next! The Mouse is auditioning for all three sisters starting on April 12!
Unlike a lot of other casting calls we’ve seen for Disney theme park and cruise ship productions, the requirements for the Hocus Pocus Villain Spelltacular are pretty simple:
You must be at least 18 years old and authorized to work in the US, and you can’t be a cast member of the Disney College Program.
That’s it!
The auditions for the show don’t require you to appear in person.

Towards the end of her song “Amelia,” Samia walks into a party. “I’m writing a poem, somebody stop me,” she sings over balmy synths and a chirpy beat. It’s less of an actual threat and more a self-aware quip from the 27-year-old musician who’s better than almost anyone at turning fleeting moments into poetry.
“I love romanticizing shit, and I always have,” Samia says. “I was an internally dramatic child. There’s something really powerful and something that feels like protest sometimes in writing [my thoughts] down in a song.

Reba McEntire is going to be spending a lot of time in front of the camera. In addition to her work as a judge on The Voice, she will also be starring in her brand-new situational comedy. This comedy, which will air on NBC, has not yet been given a title. The still-untitled comedy will have Reba McEntire joining forces with a former co-star from her past television show.
Past Situational Comedy Experience
Reba McEntire is no stranger to working on television. In addition to her many appearances as a host of country music award shows and specials, she has also worked on sitcoms. She has spent time on the sitcom Young Sheldon in the role of June.
The “Fancy” singer is probably best known for her leading role in the sitcom Reba. This television show aired from 2001 until 2007. She portrayed a single mother of three children living in a suburb of Houston,...

Exclusive: Melissa Peterman is reuniting with Reba McEntire in the latter’s as-yet-untitled NBC multi-cam comedy pilot alongside Blue Beetle star Belissa Escobedo.
Peterman and McEntire co-starred in the country legend’s eponymous TV series from 2001 to 2007 from executive producers Kevin Abbott, Michael Hanel and Mindy Schultheis, who are also back together for the new project alongside new addition, Julie Abbott. The project is produced by Universal Television, a division of Universal Studio Group.
The pilot follows Bobbie (McEntire) who inherits her father’s restaurant and is less than thrilled to discover that she has a new business partner in the half-sister she never knew she had.
Peterman will portray Gabby, a bartender who has worked at the tavern for quite some time. She is a bit needy and dramatic and would have loved to be Bobbie’s sister.

There are many lessons to be gleaned from Season Two of The Traitors, Peacock’s smash hit reality TV competition based on the parlor game Mafia: 1) that you should never drink from an ominous-looking rusty chalice, particularly if it has been offered to you by a notoriously cutthroat former Survivor contestant; 2) that virtually everyone looks cool in emerald-green velvet cloaks; and 3) that Peacock has an insanely high budget for both breakfast pastries and Alan Cumming’s headgear.

Update, with video: Whoopi Goldberg has made no secret in recent years of people she’d like to cast in her long-in-the-works Sister Act 3 project, from original Sister costars Jenifer Lewis and Kathy Najimy to Jimmy Fallon, Charlamagne Tha God, Lizzo, Keke Palmer, and Nicki Minaj, and today she added another old friend to the list: Sheryl Lee Ralph.
Ralph, who appeared in 1993’s Sister Act 2: Back in the Habit, seemed delighted if perhaps too overwhelmed with emotion to give an official answer when, during an appearance on today’s The View, Goldberg invited the Abbott Elementary star to take part in both a planned View reunion of Sister Act vets and the hoped-for second sequel to the original 1992 comedy.
“You know, we’re in the process of putting together 3,” Goldberg said toward the end of Ralph’s visit. “Will you come be part of it, whatever it is?...

Writer Jen D’Angelo got her start working on episodes of shows Workaholics, Cougar Town, and Young Rock, and now she’s on a streak of successfully getting her feature scripts brought to the screen. She wrote the long-awaited sequel Hocus Pocus 2, the time travel slasher Totally Killer, and the newly released comedy Quiz Lady – and next on her to-do list is Hocus Pocus 3. D’Angelo has previously teased that the new sequel could bring Hannah Waddingham back as her Hocus Pocus 2 character The Witch Mother, and during an interview with Collider she also gave a hint as to what could bring the Sanderson Sisters back into action, seeking revenge against Salem.
D’Angelo said, “I have my theories about what we could see (in Hocus Pocus 3), and what things mean and where we could take these characters. It’s interesting to be like, ‘Now we have even...

Spooky Season is here, and Halloween is only a few hours away! That means that the Sanderson Sisters have resurrected themselves in our homes for another season of merriment and Hocus Pocus.
Disney’s 1993 movie has become the classic choice for Halloween over the years, so much so that it got a long-awaited sequel in 2022 and a third movie is already in the works!
The story is appropriately eerie and beguiling, and the cast, centered around the three witches Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, is fantastic.
Hocus Pocus‘ Sanderson Sisters had iconic careers when they joined the movie, but the rest of the cast is equally talented. Over the years, they have all amassed impressive fortunes while starring in Hollywood projects.

Disney announced earlier this year that Hocus Pocus 3 is definitely happening, with Anne Fletcher (Hocus Pocus 2) returning to direct and Jen D’Angelo back to write the script.
But what’s the status on Hocus Pocus 3, now that we’re one year removed from the premiere of Hocus Pocus 2? D’Angelo provides a fresh update to Entertainment Weekly.
“We’re still in the story phase, we’re still working on it. We’ve been working on some ideas, and it’s been fun to dive back into that world and we have so many directions in which to go and so many new characters to explore,” D’Angelo tells the outlet. She continues, “We’ve only scratched the surface of Hannah Waddingham’s mother witch.”

It took nearly three decades, but the highly anticipated "Hocus Pocus" sequel finally arrived last year, just in time for Halloween. But there's even more good news for longtime fans of the spooky franchise: a third movie is officially in the works at Disney. That's right, Walt Disney Pictures president Sean Bailey shared the announcement himself in a New York Times profile published on June 4.
The publication noted that "Hocus Pocus 3" is, indeed, happening, while Bailey discussed the 50-plus movies in development and production at the company - which include upcoming live-action versions of "Moana" and "Lilo and Stitch."
No other details about the third "Hocus Pocus" were revealed at the time, including whether or not all the Sanderson sisters - Winnie (Bette Midler), Mary (Kathy Najimy), and Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker) - will return to reprise their roles. However, screenwriter Jen D'Angelo dropped some hints in an October interview with Entertainment Weekly,...

It's Halloween, and what's the spooky season without a little "Hocus Pocus," my sweet children? The beloved Disney movie may have been a box office flop when it debuted in theaters back in the summer of 1993. But today, it's a seasonal favorite that many consider one of the greatest Halloween movies of all time. Just earlier this month, the movie re-entered the box office charts in the #10 spot, thanks to 30th anniversary screenings at theaters across the country. The love even spawned a long-anticipated sequel, and though it doesn't quite measure up to the original, there may be another one in the works at Disney.

It’s been 30 years since Winifred Sanderson and her sisters put a spell on fans, and “Hocus Pocus” remains a Halloween classic. So, what are the witchy women up to these days? What about the kids they tormented? Well, at least when it comes to the latter, they aren’t kids anymore.
In fact, you can catch most of them at fan conventions across the country when they aren’t on-screen. Vinessa Shaw, Omri Katz, Thora Birch and Jason Marsden have reunited more than a few times at events in the last few years, as “Hocus Pocus” found its cult following later in its life cycle.
As for the Sanderson sisters, well, they’re obviously still hard at work in Hollywood too. In fact, they just reunited last year for “Hocus Pocus 2” on Disney+.
You can see what the ‘Hocus Pocus” cast looks like now in the photos below.

Hocus Pocus fans were ecstatic when Disney released a long-awaited sequel to the classic last year, but one key player was missing: original director Kenny Ortega.
Kenny helmed the 1993 classic alongside stars Mette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy. However, Anne Fletcher took over directing duties for the sequel.
He opened up about the project and his thoughts on being replaced in a new interview.

The sequel, released on September 30, 2022, was a massive streaming success on Disney+, becoming the company's most-watched film on the streamer, per Deadline.

A lot has changed since "Hocus Pocus" (aka The Ultimate Halloween movie) was released in 1993, especially the actors. Ok, maybe Bette Midler looks mostly the same, but the child and teen stars from the original haunting tale are all grown up now. And while some, like Thora Birch and Sean Murray, have continued to act in film and TV, others, like Omri Katz, have moved on to other projects. Only the original Sanderson sisters - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy, and Midler - plus Doug Jones returned in 2022's long-awaited sequel, but we can always watch the original movie again and revisit the Salem residents we first fell in love with.

Today came the sad news that Smash Mouth frontman Steve Harwell died at 56. Smash Mouth is undoubtedly best known today for the fact their 1999 hit song "All Star" played at the very beginning of the first "Shrek" movie. Like with everything else related to "Shrek," the song has become a bit of a meme.
It's easy to forget, however, that before "Shrek" debuted at Cannes and went on to win the very first Academy Award for Best Animated Feature, "All Star" was a smash hit way before Shrek. It was considered one of the best songs of 1999 and even got nominated for the Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal Grammy. While "Shrek" immortalized it, it was actually another film from 2001 that gave us the best use of "All Star," and one of the best endings to a movie of the last 20 years.

While "Shrek" immortalized it, it was actually another film from 2001 that gave us the best use of "All Star," and one of the best endings to a movie of the last 20 years.

‘Tis the season for “chills and thrills” on Freeform.
The network has finalized its milestone 25th anniversary lineup for its 31 Nights of Halloween programming block for the month of October, running from the 1st to the 31st.
Seasonal favorites return like the cult classic Hocus Pocus, starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy, courtesy of Walt Disney Pictures and Tim Burton’s beloved The Nightmare Before Christmas courtesy of Touchstone Pictures. The latter title, from director Henry Selick, is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.
The Halloweentown franchise gets a chunk of the lineup with such features as the original 1998 TV movie, starring Debbie Reynolds, Kimberly J. Brown, Joey Zimmerman, Emily Roeske and Judith Hoag, playing alongside Halloweentown II: Kalabar’s Revenge, Halloweentown High and Return to Halloweentown. Other major franchises on the lineup include The Twilight Saga, Monsters, Inc., The Addams Family, The Incredibles, Spider-Man, Hotel Transylvania and Twitches.

What would spooky season be without the Sanderson Sisters? Thanks to Freeform, we’ll never have to find out.
The cable network’s annual 31 Nights of Halloween lineup features 18 showings of Hocus Pocus, the beloved 1993 film starring Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimy — and while that may seem like a lot, keep in mind that Freeform aired the Walt Disney flick a whopping 30 (!) times in 2019. (Of course, you can watch Hocus Pocus, as well as its 2022 sequel, as many times as you’d like with a Disney+ subscription, but who are we to suggest a commercial-free viewing experience?...

The collectible makers at Funko have created a large line of Pop figures based on Hocus Pocus 2. There are, of course, all three Sanderson sisters, but also the new characters Cassie, Becca, Izzy, and Gilbert. Surprisingly, a new Billy Butcherson figure isn’t in the line-up. But there is The Witch Mother – and while the other Hocus Pocus 2 POPs will be available wherever POPs are sold, the Witch Mother figure will only be available through the Funko website. So if you want to get your hands on this one, head over to Funko.com before all the Witch Mother figures are sold!
ThatHashtagShow informs, “The Witch Mother plays a brief but significant role in the Disney feature Hocus Pocus 2. The character, portrayed by Ted Lasso’s Hannah Waddingham, meets the Sanderson sisters when they’re still children. Sensing witchy potential in young Winifred, the Witch Mother gives the sisters their iconic spellbook.

Don’t believe anything you read. Hocus Pocus is a damn good movie. From its opening frame, the 1993 film contains all the magic and wonder you could want from a gateway horror movie – earning its place next to other ‘90s essentials like Halloweentown. It’s got a talking black cat, spooky spellcasting, a zombie, and three children-eating witches – oh my! Released in the height of summer (July 12), the Kenny Ortega-directed feature hasn’t lost its allure. In fact, its legacy is as strong as ever. It’s still an extraordinarily fun picture 30 years later.
Hocus Pocus endures because of nostalgia. In the era of TV reboots, remakes, and requels, millennials yearn for their childhood and a simpler time. There’s a reason we got a completely unnecessary sequel last fall. But more importantly, Hocus Pocus defines an entire generation of horror fans. For many, it was their very first spooky movie.

King of the Hill fans were shocked to learn of the death of Johnny Hardwick last week. The actor was best known as the voice of Dale Gribble, Hank Hill’s conspiracy-obsessed neighbour on the animated series. When it was officially announced that Hulu had ordered a King of the Hill revival earlier this year, Johnny Hardwick was expected to return, but did he actually get the chance to record any episodes before his death?
According to TVLine, Johnny Hardwick had completed work on “a couple” episodes of the King of the Hill revival. Hopefully this means that we’ll get to hear the actor’s pitch-perfect take on Dale Gribble just one more time. As far as the rest of the episodes of the revival go, it’s not certain if someone else will take over as the voice of Dale or if they’ll retire the character.

Johnny Hardwick completed work on “a couple” episodes of Hulu’s forthcoming King of the Hill revival prior to his death earlier this month, TVLine has learned.
Hardwick voiced Hank’s bestie/neighbor, the chain-smoking, conspiracy-obsessed bug exterminator Dale Gribble in all 258 episodes of the erstwhile Fox series. It remains unclear if another actor will be brought in to finish what Hardwick started in the revival, which is slated to bow in 2024.

Johnny Hardwick, who voiced the chain-smoking exterminator Dale Gribble for the entire 13-season run of the Fox animated hit King of the Hill, has died. He was 64.
Officers responding to a call for a welfare check found Hardwick dead in his home in Austin on Tuesday, police said, adding that the case is not being investigated as a homicide and that the cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner’s office.
Hardwick voiced Dale — the conspiracy theorist who lives next door to his best friend, propane accessory salesman Hank Hill (co-creator Mike Judge), and uses pocket sand when necessary — from 1997-2010 and was a writer, story editor and producer on the show as well.
The animators were said to have drawn Dale to look (and smoke) just like Hardwick, and he appeared on more than 250 episodes. He shared an Emmy for outstanding animated program in 1999 and was...

Disney opened “Haunted Mansion” in the heat of summer and months removed from the spookiest time of year.
Whether the release date is connected, ticket sales were veering on scary as the comedic thriller debuted in third place to a lackluster $24 million. Competition was heightened as “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer” remained unexpectedly strong in their sophomore outings, collecting a combined $140 million over the weekend. Of course, nobody anticipated the power of “Barbenheimer” when setting the film calendar.
The $150 million-budgeted “Haunted Mansion” reboot was also hobbled by the actors’ strike because the cast, including Lakeith Stanfield, Tiffany Haddish, Owen Wilson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Jared Leto, wasn’t able to promote the movie on talk shows or in the press.
Internationally, the film collapsed with $9.1 million from 35 markets, bringing its worldwide tally to just $33 million. That’s a disappointing start for a family-friendly tentpole, which will struggle to get out of the red in its theatrical run.

“I didn’t expect it, so that just makes it that more special,” Salvador Perez reveals about his 2023 Emmy nomination for “Hocus Pocus 2” in the category of Best Fantasy/Sci-Fi Costumes. The Disney+ telefilm is also nominated for Best TV Movie and Best Music Composition. The costume designer, who was previously recognized for “The Mindy Project” in 2015, continues on, “To be recognized was just cake with icing, and then cake on top of icing.” Watch the exclusive video interview above.
Perez calls himself “a huge fan” of the original Disney film, which introduced the campy Sanderson witches — Bette Midler as Winnie, Sarah Jessica Parker as Sarah and Kathy Najimy as Mary — to audiences in 1993. “I’ve probably seen it 30 or 40 times,” he tells us. “I also had the benefit of being friends with Mary E. Vogt, who designed the original movie, and was able to ask her about details and where things came from.

This year, for the first time since 2018, multiple Best TV Movie Emmy nominees have also earned recognition for their writing or directing, seemingly indicating a return to form for the time-honored program format. The current race for the main telefilm prize is also one of the most compelling in recent memory, as every one of the five contenders has a unique set of advantages that could put it over the top.

A couple days ago, we learned that Hocus Pocus 3 is in development at the Disney+ streaming service – and now The Wrap has confirmed that this sequel is coming from the same creative team as the previous sequel! “Hocus Pocus 3” is casting its spell.
Following Sunday’s announcement that the Disney+ sequel from last fall is now getting a sequel of its own, TheWrap has learned that film’s director Anne Fletcher and writer Jen D’Angelo will be returning to the witchy franchise.

The Sanderson sisters are poised to put a spell on audiences again.
A third Hocus Pocus movie is officially in the works.
The news broke on Sunday when The New York Times shared a profile on Sean Bailey, the president of Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures Production.
News of the latest chapter in the franchise isn't much of a surprise given that Disney+ revealed that the years-in-the-works Hocus Pocus 2 delivered enormous numbers for the streaming service upon its launch last year.
The original Hocus Pocus premiered in theaters in 1993, but the film was a commercial disaster.
However, the movie became a cult hit as the years passed, with many calling for a sequel.
The good news is that the sequel reached much success and has seemingly given Disney the desire to expand the franchise some more.

Last September, Disney+ released a sequel that a lot of fans had been waiting nearly thirty years for: Hocus Pocus 2, a follow-up to the 1993 cult favorite Hocus Pocus. It was a record-breaking release, with subscribers streaming the movie for 2.7 billion minutes over its opening weekend. So it’s not too surprising to hear (via The New York Times) that Hocus Pocus 3 is now in development. Confirmation comes directly from Sean Bailey, the President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production.
Directed by Anne Fletcher from a screenplay by Jen D’Angelo (Workaholics), Hocus Pocus 2 saw Bette Midler, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Kathy Najimy reprising the roles of the Sanderson Sisters. The film has the following synopsis: Picking up 29 years after a teen named Max lit the Black Flame Candle and resurrected the three 17th-century child-essence-stealing sorceresses, Winifred (Midler), Sarah (Parker), and Mary (Najimy) are now looking for revenge. Disney’s sequel Hocus Pocus 2 was a massive hit for the Disney+ streaming service this past Halloween, setting streaming records and proving that the franchise is now more popular than ever before. As you might have guessed, Hocus Pocus 3 won’t be far behind.
Disney’s Sean Bailey flat out confirms to The New York Times in a new profile piece that just went up over the weekend, “Yes, Hocus Pocus 3 is happening.”
This isn’t the first time we’ve heard about the continuation of the franchise, which kicked off way back in 1993. In an interview with THR last October, Hocus Pocus 2 producer Adam Shankman teased the potential for follow-up projects, which could center on the sequel’s new characters. Hocus Pocus 2 introduced Whitney Peak as Becca, Belissa Escobedo as Izzy, and Lilia Buckingham as Cassie, a new group of sisters who come together to vanquish the Sandersons.
