Exclusive: Emmy winner Mandy Patinkin (Homeland) has boarded The Ever Curious Man, the first documentary feature from Ivan Cash, as an executive producer.
Patinkin’s wife, actor and writer Kathryn Grody, will also exec produce the project, with Jake Ewald serving as producer.
Focusing on the artistic legacy of sculptor Sydney Cash, a compulsive 80-year-old artist (and the filmmaker’s father), the film explores the staggering beauty and sobering cost of life as an artist. At his advanced age, Cash faces a crossroads. The lease to his biggest storage space of 35 years is ending, forcing the family and him to decide what will happen to all of his work (some pieces 12 feet tall).
How will Sydney’s chronic impulse to produce new work line up with his family’s pleas to pause and get his affairs in order, the film asks? Will a lifetime’s worth of art land in the trash,...

On June 6, the first two episodes of the new season of one of the longest-running crime shows on television, Criminal Minds, will be released.
And although many of the stars of the Bau team have returned for the project's reboot, Evolution, some, for one reason or another, have yet to join them.
1. Dr. Spencer Reid played by Matthew Gray Gubler
Matthew Gray Gubler got the role of Dr. Spencer Reid after Lukas Haas turned it down. The role of Reid, a child prodigy with a photographic memory and phenomenal orientation in various fields of human knowledge, was perfect for Haas, but he was unwilling to balance his life and career with the strict schedule of TV filming and ended up playing only one of the antagonists of the first season.

There are a lot of different medical dramas out there on TV, but few of them managed to become really successful and extremely popular among viewers. One of such dramas is, of course, Grey’s Anatomy. There’s hardly anyone who hasn't heard of Meredith Grey’s shenanigans.
The show is now on its season 20, and it’s hardly going to end anytime soon. But there’s another perfect medical drama to watch if you are a fan of the genre, and we are sure you are going to like this one even more – even though there is a catch.

Jason Gideon leads one of the best behavioral units in the world. Together they help other FBI teams identify serial killers using psychological profiles. When all the evidence leads to a dead end, Gideon's team, made up of people with very different personalities, goes in search of almost invisible clues.
So began the first season of Criminal Minds, which will soon return with Season 17. We know who you've all been waiting to see in the new chapter of the Bau team's investigation – almost everyone's favorite, Dr. Spencer Reid, played by Matthew Gray Gubler. Paramount has rebooted Criminal Minds, and starting in November 2022, we were once again immersed in the story of the Behavioral Analysis Unit (Bau) agents as they grappled with criminal minds and personal lives. Now, the story has taken an even darker turn, it has been released in a streaming format rather than the traditional TV broadcast one, and the show itself has been subtitled as Evolution. And before we knew it, a new season was already in production (the second season of Evolution and the seventeenth since Criminal Minds premiered on CBS in 2005).
While fans wait in anticipation, the upcoming Season 17 has already had its fair share of details and speculation. Josh Stewart, who has played Will Lamontagne Jr. since Season 2, will be leaving the show, while many are sure that everyone's favorite Spencer Reid will be back, as Matthew Gray Gubler's schedule has finally been cleared, and the...

The Bau is getting an assist from a Desperate Housewives alum.
TVLine reports that Felicity Huffman has closed a deal to guest star during Criminal Minds: Evolution Season 2, and her character has ties to the original series.
Huffman is playing Dr. Jill Gideon, described as “a brilliant biological psychiatrist who winds up helping the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit investigate a murderous conspiracy theory.”
If that surname sounds familiar, it’s because she’s the wife of Jason Gideon (Mandy Patinkin), so she has plenty of ties to the team.
Jill isn’t too fond of getting involved with the Bau because of her past, which concludes a “complicated history” with David Rossi (Joe Mantegna).
However, her expertise is needed because the team is struggling to crack open the Gold Star mystery.

Now we’ll never know which poor soul these severed limbs belonged to. Hulu has opted not to renew murder mystery series Death and Other Details for a second season.
The news is not really surprising; the visually stylish series starring Mandy Patinkin and Violett Beane had a pretty quiet run, not able to break into Nielsen’s weekly Top 10 streaming ratings.
Written by Mike Weiss and Heidi Cole McAdams, Death and Other Details‘ first season stars Patinkin as “the world’s once greatest detective,” Rufus Cotesworth, and Beane as his protégée, Imogene, as they team up to solve a murder on a luxury ocean liner filled with the wealthy and powerful while sailing the Mediterranean. Their search for the truth pits them against a powerful enemy, Victor Sams.

This article contains spoilers for the first two seasons of The White Lotus.
There may not be a detective on the guest list at The White Lotus, but the dark dramedy could certainly use one.
After all, both seasons of the HBO anthology series start with glimpses of dead bodies and spend subsequent episodes tracking the story of how those individuals ended up in such an … unfortunate state. Hulu‘s Death and Other Details is a bit more up front with its detective work and murder plot, but the series’ witty humor and vibrant scenery gives definite The White Lotus vibes and makes a great stand-in while fans wait for The White Lotus season 3 to drop in 2025. After all, what’s more entertaining than watching wealthy, love-to-hate characters suffer a bit of misfortune on their opulent vacations?

The Good Doctor returns for one final season, and spoilers suggest it'll be more like the way it used to be.
In recent years, the show has morphed into a relationship drama centered around Shaun and Lea's constant clashes, with some Glassman drama thrown in.
There will still be plenty of that on The Good Doctor Season 7 Episode 1, but those subplots appear to be mixed into a solid medical storyline.
According to spoilers, Morgan's baby needs a new heart valve -- and someone else's needs the same thing.
This set-up reminds me of years ago on Chicago Hope when Mandy Patinkin's character wanted to use a brain-dead baby's heart to save another child, but the mother wasn't ready to admit her newborn had no chance of survival.
But in this case, one of the mothers is Morgan, and both mothers have a baby who is alive but struggling.

Death and Other Details introduced a larger-than-life villain named Viktor Sams whose real identity is still unknown and is at the center of the killings in Hulu's murder mystery series.
After Episode 1 showcased the murder of Keith Trubitsky (who is later revealed to be the assistant of renowned detective Rufus Cotesworth played by Mandy Patinkin), tensions rose aboard the SS Varuna since everyone is deemed as a suspect.
As the series progressed, Death and Other Details peeled back on the real conspiracy that renowned detective Rufus Cotesworth has been trying to unpack for 18 years: the real identity of Viktor Sams, aka the man responsible for the death of Imogene's mother, and several murders.

There are a number of roles that we just can’t imagine anybody but the cast actor playing, and no doubt Christopher Lloyd as Emmett “Doc” Brown is near the top of the list. But if Back to the Future EP Steven Spielberg had gotten his way, the role would have gone to Devo’s Mark Mothersbaugh.
Speaking at the Sundance Film Festival — which Mark Mothersbaugh attended in support of a new Devo doc (you can read our own Chris Bumbray’s 8/10 review here) – the composer remembered being approached by Spielberg and Back to the Future director Robert Zemeckis after a concert, saying, “‘Hey we want to talk to you about something. We have a film we’re working on and we wanted to talk to you about working on it with us’…I just remember for, like, two weeks, I kept thinking, ‘They’re going to hire me to score their film.

For us 90s kids, Dick Tracy was an interesting monster of a movie. It seemed to take a lot of cues from Tim Burton’s Batman, which was released the previous summer, but it definitely had a distinct voice of its own. Dick Tracy was another classic pulp adaptation of an urban enforcer that had very dynamic visuals and an over-the-top rogues gallery. It even sported a score by Danny Elfman, which would have his signature atmospheric sound. The movie would introduce a generation of young audiences to the 1930’s film noir/ detective movie genre. Additionally, the movie brought back Warren Beatty after a three-year absence when his last film, 1987’s Ishtar, was a big flop. Having a star like Beatty in a big-budget franchise like this was an enormous asset for the re-budding intellectual property. And the star power wouldn’t even stop there.

Not to be confused with the similarly titled “The Woman on the Train” or “The Woman in the Window,” the gripping limited series “The Woman in the Wall” is finally making its U.S. debut after airing overseas last summer.
The gripping thriller, which will get a preview on Paramount+ Friday before officially premiering Sunday on Showtime, stars Golden Globe winner Ruth Wilson as Lorna Brady, a survivor of the Catholic Church-run Magdalene Laundries of Ireland whose daughter was taken from her as a teenager. Her lingering trauma as a result of the experience bleeds into every aspect of her adult life, leading to bouts of sleepwalking and intense paranoia. So when Lorna wakes up one morning to find a dead woman in her house and no recollection of who she is or how she got there, she assumes she’s responsible and quickly hides the body in the walls of her home.

“Pay attention: Details matter,” growls a heavily accented Mandy Patinkin as detective Rufus Cotesworth in the opening seconds of “Death and Other Details,” created by Heidi Cole McAdams and Mike Weiss. There’s more to the quote — hours, and hours, in fact, of droll monologues about perception and detection throughout the series — but Hulu and ABC Signature’s new show appears to have skimped heavily on attention to detail, resulting in a product so shallow, so ramshackle, that it borders on unwatchable.
To its detriment, “Death and Other Details” is not as much about Rufus Cotesworth (a character who will only be referred to by his delightful full name throughout this piece), but about Imogene Scott (Violett Beane), who met him as a child while he was investigating her mother’s death. The orphaned Imogene was taken in by the Colliers, a family of the kind of wealth that outwardly...

It isn’t just you. We’re two weeks into the new year and every show on TV has become a murder mystery.
There are reality murder mysteries (Traitors) and animated murder mysteries (Grimsburg) and British murder mysteries (Criminal Record) and occult murder mysteries (Sanctuary: A Witch’s Tale). There are murder mysteries without daylight (True Detective: Night Country) and adapted recent murder mysteries (Fool Me Once) and adapted characters in original murder mysteries (Monsieur Spade).
Those are just January premieres. So far. There’ll be at least one more new murder mystery before the end of the week (The Woman in the Wall).
It’s easy to point to the blockbuster success of the two Knives Out movies and the steady success of the Kenneth Branagh/Michael Green-steered Hercule Poirot movies as a business-driven cause.
Sociologically, it’s easy to point to a decade of distrust of institutional policing...

“Memory is a motherfucker,” detective Rufus Cotesworth (Mandy Patinkin) declares in Hulu’s Death and Other Details. Humans, he means, are prone to accidental forgetfulness, self-indulgence, and, on occasion, trauma-driven memory loss. How, then, will Rufus, the so-called “World’s Greatest Detective,” crack a case that relies on both his own and witnesses’ memories over the last 20 years?
The inciting incident is the murder of entitled richling Keith Trubitsky (Michael Gladis) aboard a luxury ocean liner, establishing an Agatha Christie-style closed circle of suspects, as the killer must be on the ship. Trubitsky, it turns out, was invited as a friend of the Colliers, whose family business is on the brink of financial ruin. They chartered the boat as a last-ditch attempt to schmooze potential investors, the Chun family, who’ve hired Rufus to do due diligence.
Rufus has his own agenda: to finally solve the 20-year-old murder case of the Colliers’ former assistant.

Murder mystery drama Death And Other Details is heading to Disney+ – and the show even has a new trailer! Have a gander within.
Michael Weiss has been a producer and screenwriter on many successful shows, including Chicago P.D, The Mentalist and the terrific Cobie Smulders private eye comedy drama Stumptown, which sadly only ran for a single series but is well worth watching. It’s currently streaming on Disney+.
Weiss is now co-showrunner of Death And Other Details, a murder mystery drama series heading to Hulu in the US and Disney+ in other territories, including the UK. It looks like a cross between Death On The Nile and The White Lotus, which is a pretty good hybrid if you ask us.
