With 25 years under its belt, Law & Order: Svu has gone through countless changes in its run, most notably in its lineup of main characters. We’ve come to love so many of the show’s characters, and have also had to say goodbye to some as they moved on to other ventures within the show or real life. But through it all fans have remained loyal to the show and its characters. It’s no secret that fans love Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) as partners. Nor is it a secret that we all yearn for them to finally bite the bullet and date already! They’re a dynamic duo, a tour de force, there’s no denying that. But there is one partnership that may just edge them out, and that’s Fin Tutuola (Ice-t) and John Munch (Richard Belzer). While no one...

Renowned comedian Richard Lewis, famous for his stand-up performances and memorable role on HBO’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, died on Tuesday night at his Los Angeles home after he suffered a heart attack. He was 76 years old.
The news of Lewis’s death was confirmed by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. Lewis had been living with Parkinson’s disease, a diagnosis he revealed in April 2023. In a statement, Lewis’s wife, Joyce Lapinsky, expressed gratitude for the love, friendship and support people had extended, and asked for privacy at this difficult time.
Born as Richard Philip Lewis on June 29, 1947, in Brooklyn and raised in Englewood, New Jersey, Lewis went on to graduate from Ohio State University. Richard Lewis, the wild, eccentric, ultra-neurotic stand-up comedian and comic actor who most recently served as a semi-regular alongside Larry David on “Curb Your Enthusiasm,” is dead. He was 76. Lewis suffered a fatal heart attack Tuesday night less than a year after announcing in April 2023 that he had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and was retiring from performing stand-up comedy. Lewis’ death was confirmed by his publicist Jeff Abraham, who noted, “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for the love, friendship and support and asks everyone for privacy at this time.”
He appeared this month on the 12th and final season of “Curb” after begging off of the show in its 11th season while recovering from a series of surgeries. But he wound up shooting a scene in an episode that year, anyway.

Richard Lewis, one of the most influential stand-up comedians of his era and Larry David's hilariously neurotic best friend on HBO's "Curb Your Enthusiasm," has died at the age of 76. The official cause of death was listed as a heart attack.
Lewis belonged to a class of comedians who turned joke-telling into a confessional art form. His contemporaries were Richard Belzer, Elayne Boosler, Robert Klein, and Jerry Seinfeld. Lewis got belly laughs out of failed relationships, depression, anxiety, and addiction. He was reliably, identifiably miserable, which was a balm for anyone in his audience who happened to be struggling because, no matter how awful his life seemed to be, he was always back on stage the next night or bantering with David Letterman a week month later after recounting his latest crisis.
He was a neurotic's neurotic, and, therefore, an essential part of our lives. If he could laugh off life's absurd tortures,...

Richard Lewis, the beloved comedian, stand-up comedy all-star, and series regular on Larry David’s Curb Your Enthusiasm, has died after suffering a heart attack. He was 76. Lewis’ death was confirmed by his publicist, Jeff Abraham. “His wife, Joyce Lapinsky, thanks everyone for all the love, friendship and support and asks for privacy at this time,” Abraham said.
Richard Lewis’ comedic journey began with dual debuts in the New York and Los Angeles comedy arenas in the 1970s. Mentioned in the same breaths as comedy legends like Andy Kaufman, Richard Belzer, and Elayne Boosler, Lewis’ comedy style was darker and more self-deprecating than his fellow kings and queens of comedy. Not afraid to lampoon his shortcomings, Richard Lewis shared grim comedy about his addictions and bizarre thinking.

Another big reunion could soon be coming to Law & Order: Special Victims Unit if one former cast member gets her way.
In the original two seasons of the Law & Order spinoff series, Michelle Hurd played the role of tough detective Monique Jeffries. She was one of the main characters of the original cast alongside Mariska Hargitay (Olivia Benson), Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni), Richard Belzer (John Munch), and Dann Florek (Donald Cragen), with Stephanie March (Alexandra Cabot) and Ice-t (Fin Tutuola) introduced as new mains in Season 2. Hurd left the show during its second season in 2001, and she has not made any appearances since. In a new interview with TV Insider, however, Hurd expressed her desire to return to that role to check back in with Monique to see how she's doing in 2024.

Law & Order: Svu was a bit of new territory for hip-hop artist Ice-t. When he first met the cast, he noticeably kept a bit of distance. But little did the rapper know he’d be working with his Law & Order for 25 seasons now.
Ice-t failed to hang out with his ‘Law & Order’ co-stars at first Ice-t, Chris Meloni, Richard Belzer, Diane Neal, Dann Florek, B.D. Wong, Mariska Hargitay | NBC Universal / Getty Images
Ice-t couldn’t have known Law & Order was going to last as long as it has when he was first cast. The actor has always shared that he was originally only supposed to be on the show for four episodes.
“Here it is, we’re starting the 22nd season. I can’t really explain it, man,” Ice-t said not too long ago on Straight Up Steve Austin.
But Ice-t doesn’t mind the show’s longevity.

For 25 years, Olivia Benson's fought the good fight, but it sucks when she loses a victim.
She learned that the hard way on Law & Order: Svu Season 25 Episode 1 when all her efforts to find a missing teenager led nowhere.
This strange, heartbreaking case was the perfect way to kick off the long-running series' historic 25th season -- but is this the end of Maddie's story?
Maddie's kidnapping happened at the same time as the baptism of Rollins' baby. The celebratory scenes at the church and the bar afterward made Maddie's disappearance even more powerful a gut punch.
I was surprised that nobody explicitly referenced the parallel.
Rollins has been worried since becoming pregnant 0about bringing another child into a world where monsters prey on young people, yet she seemed undisturbed by the incident. She was focused entirely on how Benson was doing.
It might have been especially terrifying if she knew all the details.

Law & Order: Svu just hit a major milestone. The police procedural is heading into its 25th season, and the show’s cast decided to celebrate the occasion in style. Mariska Hargitay, Ice-t, and other stars of the NBC drama, past and present, gathered at Edge at Hudson Yards in New York City on Jan. 16 to mark the show’s birthday ahead of the season 25 premiere on Jan. 18.
It’s been a long journey for the special victims unit squad. The show launched in 1999 as a spinoff of Law & Order. Since then, more than 500 episodes have aired, and the show has become the second-longest-running scripted primetime drama after The Simpsons (based on the number of seasons). Let’s take a look at some of the Law & Order: Svu cast, then and now.

Viewers were left baffled on Monday, January 15, when the 2023 Emmy Awards left several stars out of the show’s emotional In Memoriam tribute. The segment, which pays tribute to stars who passed away since the previous year’s (September 2022) ceremony, honored the likes of Norman Lear, Angela Lansbury, and Andre Braugher. As such, Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers introduced the segment in light of the recent loss of Lear, the pioneering producer renowned for creating groundbreaking series like their All in the Family, as well as Sanford and Son, One Day at a Time, The Jeffersons, and Good Times. As the presentation started, several stars appeared to the tune of Charlie Puth‘s “See You Again,” which shifted to a special tribute to Matthew Perry accompanied by the theme song of Friends. Stephen “tWitch” Boss, Richard Belzer, Treat Williams, and Angus Cloud were also honored alongside Lance Reddick. However, there were still some snubs,...

Rob Reiner and Sally Struthers took the stage at the 2023 Emmys to pay tribute to their former colleague Norman Lear, in addition to other notable television figures who passed away since the previous ceremony.
Charlie Puth and The War and Treaty — comprised of Michael Trotter Jr. and Tanya Trotter — performed the former’s hit 2015 song “See You Again” for the In Memoriam segment. They finished the segment with a rendition of the Friends theme song that coincided with Matthew Perry being featured as the final name in the video tribute.
In keeping with the ceremony’s theme of celebrating television reunions, Reiner and Struthers reminisced about their time together as co-stars on All in the Family, the classic CBS sitcom that debuted in 1971 and ran for nine seasons.

When Odafin "Fin" Tutuola (Ice-t) showed up in Law & Order: Svu's Season 2, Episode 1, "Wrong Is Right," he was only supposed to be in four episodes. Just over 23 years later, Fin is the second-longest-running character on Svu and the person who has been there the most for Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) over the last two decades. Ice-t's portrayal of the now Sergeant is an iconic part of the Law & Order franchise, especially because of his incredible one-liners.

Kelli Giddish is returning to Law & Order: Svu season 25 after her controversial exit, which received backlash. Amanda Rollins, Giddish's character, may have already given birth in the new season based on her lack of a baby bump. The Manhattan Svu team will be understaffed in the upcoming season, making it likely that Rollins will return to help Benson.
A big change is coming Amanda Rollins' way when Kelli Giddish returns in Law & Order: Svu season 25. In August, actor Arleen Sorkin, "The Price is Right" host Bob Barker, "This Is Us" actor Ron Cephas Jones, and musician DJ Casper, the man behind the 1998 party hit "Cha Cha Slide," died as well. The month before, we lost actors Angus Cloud and Paul Reubens, famed singers Tony Bennett, Sinéad O'Connor, and Jane Birkin, and musician Coco Lee. When it comes crashing down and it hurts inside, then it might be time to step away from the drugs and alcohol. And that’s just what pro wrestler, suburban commando and Richard Belzer choker-outer Hulk Hogan had to do when it started running wild on him.

When Law & Order: Svu began in 1999, the romantic tension between Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni) and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) was immediately evident. Though Stabler was married, a "will they-won't they" dance developed that lasted until Meloni departed from the show in 2012. Now that audiences have seen Olivia with actual romantic partners, the question has become less about whether Elliot and Olivia will get together and more about whether Olivia will get a happily ever after at all.
Over the last 24 seasons, Olivia has built a life she is proud of as captain of the Special Victims Unit, a single mother to her son Noah and a consistent advocate for survivors. The show's writers wrote Olivia as a strong woman who doesn't need a man to be happy. While viewers believe that to be true, they also know this: even if she doesn't need a partner to be happy, she deserves one.
Over the last 24 seasons, Olivia has built a life she is proud of as captain of the Special Victims Unit, a single mother to her son Noah and a consistent advocate for survivors. The show's writers wrote Olivia as a strong woman who doesn't need a man to be happy. Nobody guessed back in 1999 that Law & Order: Svu would still be going strong 25 years later.
This series and Mariska Hargitay's Olivia Benson have become synonymous with supporting survivors of sexual assault and abuse.
After a quarter-century of giving a voice to those who have felt unheard, Law & Order: Svu Season 25 has the green light, and we've got exciting news about what's ahead. Bookmark this post so you don't miss a single update!
Law & Order: Svu has always been more character-driven than its parent show; from its pilot episode, it focused both on the week's crime and how investigating heinous acts of violence took a toll on the detectives.
Ex-svu alum and current lead on Law & Order: Organized Crime Christopher Meloni appeared sporadically throughout Season 24 as Stabler and Benson slowly drifted toward each other.

In 1972, Woody Allen scored a surprise success with his audacious sketch comedy film "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About Sex* (*But Were Afraid to Ask)." This rambunctious collection of ribald bits was both uproarious and deceptively off-handed. Suddenly, there was a market for loosely stitched-together, adult-skewing yuk-fests. These movies could be made fast and on the cheap because you didn't need production value to get a belly laugh out of dirty jokes or gratuitous nudity. This was smash-and-grab comedy, and it thrived throughout most of the decade.
One such practitioner of this scandalous style was Ken Shapiro. The counterculture satirist had created an underground comedy hit in New York City with his Channel One Theater, an innovative live show that barraged audiences with tawdry skits via three television sets. With Allen's movie, Monty Python's "And Now for Something Completely Different" and Brian De Palma's "Hi, Mom!" making untoward hay in movie theaters,...

How much clamor there was for a crossover of the three FBI series is debatable.
Still, a reasonably seamless narrative ran through FBI: International Season 2 Episode 16, FBI Season 5 Episode 17, and FBI: Most Wanted Season 4 Episode 16.
That makes sense because crossovers are old hat for Dick Wolf.
One of the earliest crossovers was Wolf's Og Law & Order, crossing over with Tom Fontana's Homicide in 1996. The two series crossed over twice more during their runs.
Richard Belzer's John Munch, the crossover king who appeared in 10 different series, even moved from Homicide to Wolf's Law & Order: Special Victims Unit in 1999.
Subsequently, crossovers have become more commonplace between and within Wolf's One Chicago and Law & Order franchises. So this FBI crossover was inevitable.
There was a crossover between FBI and FBI: Most Wanted in 2020. There also have been phone calls among the three teams.

Law & Order: Svu has been running now for over 20 seasons. The show has stood the test of time, and it has a loyal fan base to show for it.
Shows of this caliber take a lot of work and dedication to produce weekly. Viewers get to see the end result of all the hard work, but they don’t see the grueling schedule the actors and crew have to follow to get Svu into our living rooms.

Lance Reddick's role as Lieutenant Cedric Daniels in The Wire was an integral part of the HBO show's rejection of cop show clichés. As shift lieutenant in Baltimore Police Department's narcotics division, it was Daniels who led the first investigation into the Barksdale crew in The Wire season 1. Daniels regularly clashed with Dominic West's more maverick Jimmy McNulty, but scenes between the rogue detective and his authoritarian boss were portrayed with far more nuance than similar scenes in the many cop shows that preceded The Wire.
This was partly due to David Simon's more novelistic approach to screenwriting, presenting his very real story of institutional corruption and urban degradation with a great deal of empathy and complexity. However, the success of McNulty and Daniels' clashes is also a testament to the skills of The Wire actors Dominic West and Lance Reddick, who very sadly died at the...

Saturday Night Live didn’t forget that Law & Order: Svu star Richard Belzer is part of its origin story. The NBC sketch-comedy series’ February 25 episode honored the comedian and actor — who died on February 19 — with a title card showing a young Belzer performing stand-up. Belzer was Saturday Night Live’s original warm-up comic when the show premiered in 1975, according to Vulture. He also appeared on screen during SNL’s early years, playing a juror in the debut episode and standing in for Chevy Chase in a Season 2 installment, Deadline notes. In a 1993 interview with People, Belzer claimed that his friend Lorne Michaels, creator of SNL, promised to make him a cast member but later reneged. “John [Belushi], Bill Murray, and Gilda [Radner] got on the show and became big stars and millionaires,” Belzer told the magazine. “Lorne betrayed me and lied to me — which he denies — but I give you my word he said,...

Richard Belzer played the character of Detective John Munch for nearly 30 years, popping up as Munch in various TV shows that span across genres. Belzer felt like an actor who would just be around forever, which made his recent death at the age of 78 all the more melancholy. But while Belzer may be gone, his legacy lives on. And now, USA Network will pay tribute to the late actor by airing a "Munch-a-thon" that will feature 10 of Belzer's best episodes from "Law & Order: Svu." Sunday’s SAG Awards ceremony will be a streaming event for the first time on the Netflix YouTube channel. One of the highlights each year is the special In Memoriam segment. It’s been a particularly rough year with over 100 deaths of prominent actors and actresses who were likely members of SAG/AFTRA. Show producers typically are able to include approximately 40-50 people in a tribute.
Among that group will certainly be Oscar winners Louise Fletcher, William Hurt and Irene Cara, plus nominees Angela Lansbury (a SAG life achievement recipient) and Melinda Dillon. Emmy champs Mary Alice, Kirstie Alley, Leslie Jordan, Ray Liotta, Stuart Margolin, Robert Morse and Barbara Walters.

“Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” star and producer Mariska Hargitay paid tribute to her late co-star Richard Belzer Thursday, days after his death on Feb. 19 at the age of 78.
“He was family and taught me so much about taking risks and creativity and trust and he brought so much joy to the set,” Hargitay said while speaking with Savannah Guthrie during an appearance on “Today.”
“Boy, did this man loves children. He was this acerbic, quick-witted, brilliant mind and yet he would melt in the sight of a child. He was [so] beautiful and complex and it was such a privilege to know him,” Hargitay gushed.
Belzer left “Svu” in 2016. The cause of death is currently unknown.

Mariska Hargitay is once again remembering Richard Belzer, her late Law & Order: Svu co-star, as a special “heart and soul” who as both an actor and comedian was “brilliant.”
While appearing on NBC’s Today to discuss the latest episode of one of TV’s longest-running series as well as celebrate longtime colleague and friend Ice-t’s recent Hollywood Walk of Fame honor, the actress opened up about Belzer, who died on Feb. 19 at 78.
“What a heart and soul,” she told Savannah Guthrie. “He was family and taught me so much about taking risks and creativity and trust.”
Hargitay added that while working on the series with her, from which he retired as a series regular in 2016, “he brought so much joy to the set.” According to the actress and EP, he also — despite being an “acerbic, quick-witted, brilliant” mind — had a soft spot for children, whom he would “melt” at the sight of.

Mariska Hargitay dropped a lot of intel about Law & Order: Svu during a Thursday appearance on Today.
The star, who has played Olivia Benson since 1999, opened up about directing Law & Order: Svu Season 24 Episode 15, which sounds like an exciting episode.
"It's a bit of a departure from what we normally do," she said of the episode, which marks her first time directing in three years.
"There are a whole lot of surprises," she promised before adding that she felt "so deeply honored that they trusted me with this material."
The star also delved into the relationship between Benson and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni).
The pair came this close to kissing during Law & Order: Svu Season 24 Episode 12, and fans took notice.
"All you need to know is that Benson and Stabler love each other deeply… so deep,"
"You know, the show's probably only gonna go another 23 years, so...

Comedian and actor Richard Belzer, who sadly died on Sunday at age 78, played detective John Munch on several series, including “Homicide: Life on the Street” and “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” And on every single one of them, he had something wise and witty to say.
The character of John Munch was created on the underrated ’90s police drama “Homicide: Life on the Street.” Munch was known for his one-liners, metaphysical riffs and sprawling conspiracy theories while solving murders in Baltimore alongside detectives played by Andre Braugher, Daniel Baldwin and Ned Beatty. As he mused in one episode: “If a murder is committed in Baltimore and no homicide detective takes the call, did that homicide actually occur?”
He got a bit blue when the character moved over to “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” in 1999, where the topics were rape, assault and, sometimes, sexual dysfunction, but he was still the same Munch.
