On working with Gene Hackman on Crimson Tide : " When I got the part I was really excited because Hackman has that Spencer Tracy thing - that ability to be so simple, so human, and yet so complex. They are unafraid. At one point in the film Gene is so petulant, like an eight-year-old. You don't see stars of his magnitude actually be that way. He's not afraid to be wrong or petulant or unsympathetic. Therefore, he inhabits his character in a much deeper way.".
