The impresario behind the Law & Order franchise, Dick Wolf, once threatened to fire Svu star Mariska Hargitay when she cut her hair, according to Variety. He also told her there’s no crying in TV. But after 25 seasons of Svu, Hargitay told the trade mag, “He makes me stronger,” while acknowledging their working relationship has been “ugly at times.”

Why was it shown in a teaser and not in the show? Mariska said, “To be honest with you, Chris and I thought it should go one way and the powers that be didn’t, so it got changed at the last minute, that near kiss. Obviously Dick [Wolf] gets final say. It’s his show and he didn’t want that.

When a little girl can’t find her mother in a pocket park in New York City, she inexplicably runs crying straight into the arms of Mariska Hargitay. Though Hargitay’s in the middle of shooting a scene from “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit,” she doesn’t hesitate. She scoops up the child and begins circling the playground looking for the missing mom.
She doesn’t stop to think about the cast and crew, all of whom are waiting at the other end of the park, hoping to finish the scene before the sunlight reappears from behind the clouds.

Law & Order Svu has put its cast through some difficult episodes. Actors like Mariska Hargitay have been very candid in the past about how the show’s darker subject matter affected her. But Kelli Giddish might’ve been even more disturbed by certain episodes, especially ones involving children.
How Kelli Giddish dealt with the tougher episodes of ‘Law & Order Svu’ Kelli Giddish | Arturo Holmes/WireImage
Giddish knew what she was signing up for when she was first cast in Svu. She’d already guest-starred on Law & Order Svu as another character four years prior to landing the role of Amanda Rollins. She even appeared in Wolf’s other spin-off Criminal Intent. But guest-starring on the show was much different than being a series-regular.
As detective Rollins, Giddish was consistently exposed to more than a few haunting crimes. Some of which could be hard to shake off when Giddish could relate to them personally.

Law & Order Svu did a lot for Ice-t’s acting career when casting him on the show way back in 1999. But it was a good thing Ice-t was cast in his more mature years. If he was approached for the show when he was younger, he might’ve turned it down.

Ice-t is one of Svu‘s veterans, having been a part of the show from the beginning. Acting wasn’t anything new to Ice-t when he was first approached for the project. But the series’ creator Dick Wolf was concerned Ice-t would have issues with playing a police officer.
“When Dick Wolf put me on the show, he said, ‘Ice, you don’t like the cops, do you?’ I said, ‘Not all of ‘em. I ain’t got problems. Some of ‘em are cool.

NBC’s loss is Peacock’s gain — again.
Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Peacock is putting the finishing touches on a deal that would see Law & Order: Organized Crime move from NBC to the streamer for a fifth season consisting of 10 episodes.
Reps for Peacock, NBC, producers Universal Television and executive producer Dick Wolf declined to comment, as a deal has yet to officially close.
Marking a return to the L&o world for franchise favorite Chris Meloni, Organized Crime has overperformed on Peacock with the streamer serving as the streaming home for all things Dick Wolf. Once the deal is formalized, Peacock will now have a Wolf original series to go with next-day episodes of NBC’s already renewed L&o flagship as well as Svu. NBC renewed five of its six Wolf-produced procedurals in March, leaving Organized Crime on the bubble and prompting fan campaigns to save the show.

One of the many joys in watching Law & Order: Svu is trying to spot hometown New York City locations seen in the long-running series. Stars have played countless scenes throughout NYC, from Olivia Benson’s home borough of Manhattan to Elliot Stabler’s turf in Queens, where his family once lived. Ada Sonny Carisi is from Staten Island, and new team member Terry Bruno came from the Bronx Svu. Many cases have also involved places in Brooklyn. Residents and visitors to New York frequently stumble upon the cast and crew filming on the city’s mean streets, and there’s always a chance of glimpsing Captain Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her crew doing what they do best: solving crimes and protecting victims. Law & Order Svu may have lost Christopher Meloni at one point. But his absence allowed for Mariska Hargitay to tinker around with new storylines, some involving potential love interests for her character. But there was one on-screen romantic partner that Hargitay may not have appreciated breaking up with.

Law & Order Svu stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni have been shipped by fans for years. But in real life, Hargitay’s already been paired with her husband for 19 years Peter Hermann. But Hermann has been well aware of the bond between Hargitay and Meloni, and had a very understandable reaction to it.

Meloni and Hargitay have known each other far longer than she and Hermann have. The two signed on to Law & Order Svu in 1999 after screen testing together. They would grow closer over the years before Meloni’s departure from the show in 2011, but still seemed to remain good friends. Maybe the third time’s the charm? Kelli Giddish is returning for a third time to Law & Order: Svu since her exit in the middle of Season 24 (let’s not count her Organized Crime episodes for the sake of the argument). She’ll be reprising her role as Amanda Rollins, Svu detective-turned-criminology professor, in the 11th episode of Season 25. There are not yet details available about what brings her back this time, but thanks to photos Mariska Hargitay (who plays Captain Olivia Benson) shared, we know that Giddish is currently filming. Giddish left in the ninth episode of Season 24, then returned later that season for its finale. She also guest-starred in the Season 25 premiere. And a common thread of both appearances is that she’s not exactly thrilled with her new position. In fact, our biggest question heading into Season 25 was if Svu would ever address that. At the end of last season,...

It’s Svu’s groundbreaking 25th season, and there’s something special in the air. “This is a historic, unprecedented year and an amazing gift for the fans, especially those that have been with the show for so long,” promises co-showrunner Julie Martin, who has been with the drama since 2011. A lot is familiar in this landmark season as the Special Victims team tracks down the perps of heinous sex crimes and metes out the usual much-deserved justice. But within the tried-and-true formula, the episodes also delve into self-reflection, healing, and life-changing decisions. For instance, the third installment has a rare uplifting ending, when insecure dermatologist Vincent Prochik not only accepts that he was raped, but also goes undercover and triumphantly helps take down the culprits, thereby transforming himself. Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) really does the heavy lifting, however, as the savior of many abused victims finally gazes inward to try to save herself.

It’s a good day for fans of Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, as NBC has officially picked up both legal dramas for the 2024-25 season.
This exciting news means that Law & Order will continue for Season 24, and Law & Order: Svu will continue for Season 26.
The renewals were announced alongside the pickups of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D.
Ominously missing from the renewals was the Christopher Meloni-led Law & Order: Organized Crime, currently in its fourth season, but the network is saying that the show’s future is “in discussion.”
The youngest entry in the sprawling Law & Order universe has been saddled with behind-the-scenes issues since its inception and has gone through countless showrunners.
The series typically takes on more serialized storylines as opposed to the procedural nature of the other two Thursday night dramas.
