While filming one of the final episodes of Season 25 of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit on April 10 in New York City, the 60-year-old actress was approached by a little girl who believed her to be a real police officer based on the badge she was wearing as part of her character’s outfit.
An eyewitness told People that the little girl had been separated from her mother in the Anne Loftus Playground in Fort Tryon Park and went to Mariska for help, who stopped production for 20 minutes and helped the child find her mother, consoling them both.

Olivia Benson to the rescue! Mariska Hargitay isn’t a real-life cop, but that didn’t stop her from stepping into protector mode when a little girl needed help. The Law & Order: Svu star was filming an episode of the popular NBC drama in a New York City park when a child who’d been separated from her mother mistook her for an actual police officer.
Hargitay apparently didn’t miss a beat when the girl approached her, according to reports. She swiftly paused filming to help the child find her mom, with whom she was soon reunited.

Law & Order: Svu is taking Maddie’s (Alison Elaine) kidnapping case—which haunted the squad, especially Captain Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) —to trial, with a twist! In the April 18 episode, “Combat Fatigue,” the squad is on edge. “It’s going to start off with a twist. You might be like, ‘Oh no, they put the end of the episode at the beginning,'” Peter Scanavino (who plays Ada Sonny Carisi) tells TV Insider. “But what you think is the end is just the beginning, and it just gets kind of weirder and weirder from there. And you really get to see the insane psychology behind George from Canada.” This trial will challenge Carisi, especially when it comes to “going up against somebody that is unorthodox but still trying to do that within the rules of the criminal justice system,” teases the star. As a sneak peek, which you can watch above,...

Law & Order star Mariska Hargitay lost her mother Jayne Mansfield in a car accident when she was just three-years-old. But it wasn’t until much later on in life that she started truly processing her grief.

It took some time for Hargitay to learn how to properly deal with the loss of her mother. It wasn’t an overnight process, and required trial and error for the actor to address her feelings.
“The way I’ve lived with loss is to lean into it,” Hargitay once told People. “As the saying goes, the only way out is through. In my life, certainly I’ve tried to avoid pain, loss, feeling things. But I’ve learned instead to really lean into it, because sooner or later you have to pay the piper.

One of the many joys in watching Law & Order: Svu is trying to spot hometown New York City locations seen in the long-running series. Stars have played countless scenes throughout NYC, from Olivia Benson’s home borough of Manhattan to Elliot Stabler’s turf in Queens, where his family once lived. Ada Sonny Carisi is from Staten Island, and new team member Terry Bruno came from the Bronx Svu. Many cases have also involved places in Brooklyn. Residents and visitors to New York frequently stumble upon the cast and crew filming on the city’s mean streets, and there’s always a chance of glimpsing Captain Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and her crew doing what they do best: solving crimes and protecting victims. Below, we highlight just a few of the real (and fictional) locations the hit procedural has used over the past 25 years. Benson’s Apartment (203 W. 89th St.

Maybe the third time’s the charm? Kelli Giddish is returning for a third time to Law & Order: Svu since her exit in the middle of Season 24 (let’s not count her Organized Crime episodes for the sake of the argument). She’ll be reprising her role as Amanda Rollins, Svu detective-turned-criminology professor, in the 11th episode of Season 25. There are not yet details available about what brings her back this time, but thanks to photos Mariska Hargitay (who plays Captain Olivia Benson) shared, we know that Giddish is currently filming. Giddish left in the ninth episode of Season 24, then returned later that season for its finale. She also guest-starred in the Season 25 premiere. And a common thread of both appearances is that she’s not exactly thrilled with her new position. In fact, our biggest question heading into Season 25 was if Svu would ever address that. At the end of last season,...

It’s Svu’s groundbreaking 25th season, and there’s something special in the air. “This is a historic, unprecedented year and an amazing gift for the fans, especially those that have been with the show for so long,” promises co-showrunner Julie Martin, who has been with the drama since 2011. A lot is familiar in this landmark season as the Special Victims team tracks down the perps of heinous sex crimes and metes out the usual much-deserved justice. But within the tried-and-true formula, the episodes also delve into self-reflection, healing, and life-changing decisions. For instance, the third installment has a rare uplifting ending, when insecure dermatologist Vincent Prochik not only accepts that he was raped, but also goes undercover and triumphantly helps take down the culprits, thereby transforming himself. Capt. Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) really does the heavy lifting, however, as the savior of many abused victims finally gazes inward to try to save herself.

NBC recently handed renewals to several of their shows. Law & Order will get another season. The flagship show was brought back in 2022 after an 11-year hiatus.
Law & Order: Svu currently holds the record as the longest-running primetime drama on television. It will continue its streak for at least another season. NBC renewed it for Season 26.
The network also renewed all three of its Chicago show franchise – Chicago Fire, Chicago P.D., and Chicago Med. But one troubled NBC show is facing cancellation after failing to secure a renewal.

Actor Mariska Hargitay made a name for herself portraying the iconic Olivia Benson in Law & Order Svu. But in the beginning of her career, she was picky regarding the film roles she played. She asserted she once even intentionally avoided doing more sexual roles thanks to her late mother.

“Law & Order” crossovers never fail to open up sweet opportunities where our favorite characters from different “Law & Order” universes get to meet and interact with each other. Since Van Damme and Seagal hit big in the late 80s and early 90s, martial artists started to come out of the woodwork with their own unique brand. As we’ve covered recently on Reel Action, Van Damme collaborator Sheldon Lettich attempted to introduce audiences to both the style of Capoeira and the star power of Mark Dacascos in Only the Strong. Another martial artist that tried his hand at the action title and came away with a cult following was Jeff Speakman as he demonstrated his Kenpo skills in the 1991 film The Perfect Weapon.

It’s a good day for fans of Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu, as NBC has officially picked up both legal dramas for the 2024-25 season.
This exciting news means that Law & Order will continue for Season 24, and Law & Order: Svu will continue for Season 26.
The renewals were announced alongside the pickups of Chicago Fire, Chicago Med, and Chicago P.D.
Ominously missing from the renewals was the Christopher Meloni-led Law & Order: Organized Crime, currently in its fourth season, but the network is saying that the show’s future is “in discussion.”
The youngest entry in the sprawling Law & Order universe has been saddled with behind-the-scenes issues since its inception and has gone through countless showrunners.
The series typically takes on more serialized storylines as opposed to the procedural nature of the other two Thursday night dramas.

Dick Wolf shows are coming back to NBC in the 2024-2025 season, but there is somewhat of a surprise with the news: One hasn’t been renewed yet. The network has renewed all three One Chicago shows and two Law & Orders. Chicago Fire will be returning for its 13th season, P.D. is coming back for its 12th, and Med is reaching its 10th. Meanwhile, Law & Order will be back for its 24th season, while Svu will be entering its 26th(!). But what about Law & Order: Organized Crime? Its status “is still in discussion,” according to NBC. The Christopher Meloni-led spinoff is currently in its fourth season. It premiered in 2021, as part of a two-part crossover with Svu, which reunited Meloni and Mariska Hargitay (Captain Olivia Benson). Across all platforms, all five shows are up double and triple-digits vs. the prior season in both total viewers and...

Dick Wolf is in for another busy season at NBC. No surprise here, the Peacock network has renewed “Chicago Med,” “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago P.D.,” “Law & Order” and “Law & Order: Svu” for the 2024-25 broadcast TV season. Among Dick Wolf scripted series, that leaves just “Law & Order: Organized Crime” on the bubble; a renewal for that show, which has experienced multiple showrunner changes in its short life, is still in discussion.
Among the shows, this will rep the 26th season of “Law & Order: SVU,” the 24th season of “Law & Order,” Season 13 for “Chicago Fire,” the 12th season for “Chicago PD” and the 10th season for “Chicago Med.” All of the renewed series are produced by Universal Studio Group’s Universal Television division, along with Wolf Entertainment, and all shows stream the following day on Peacock. NBC has renewed most — but not all — of the shows in its two biggest franchises for the 2024-25 season.
The network has ordered new seasons of all three of its Chicago dramas — Med, Fire and Pd — along with Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu. Notably missing from the list is Law & Order: Organized Crime, whose status is “still under discussion,” according to NBC. All six series come from Dick Wolf’s Wolf Entertainment and Universal Television.
Svu will add to its record as the longest-running primetime drama in American TV history with a 26th season in 2024-25, while Law & Order — which recently saw the departure of series fixture Sam Waterston — will air its 24th. Chicago Med will hit double digits with its 10th season, Fire will air its 13th and Pd its 12th.

Law & Order and Law & Order: Svu will be back for the 2024-25 season after NBC renewed the pair of shows but spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime is in a slightly more precarious position.
The network has renewed Law & Order for Season 24, while Law & Order: Svu will be back for Season 26.
The future of Law & Order: Organized Crime, which is in its fourth season, is still in discussion at the network. It has been the lowest rated of Dick Wolf’s NBC shows and has had a number of showrunners over its course. Matt Olmstead started out as showrunner, replaced by Ilene Chaiken, who was replaced by Barry O’Brien. Bryan Goluboff was named showrunner for Season 3 but left after three months, replaced by Sean Jablonski, who also left shortly after due to “creative differences” and was replaced by David Graziano. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (Law & Order: Svu) is one of the best shows on TV.
The crime series, also known as the first spin-off of Law & Order by Dick Wolf, debuted back in September of 1999, and has since gone on to become the longest-running primetime U.S. live-action series in the history of TV, and the only live-action ’90s series still producing new episodes.
The show includes stars like Christopher Meloni as Elliot Stabler (who left in 2011), and Mariska Hargitay as Olivia Benson.
The iconic opening provides the premise: “In the criminal justice system, sexually-based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories.”

Law & Order Svu stars Mariska Hargitay and Chris Meloni have been linked together ever since they were cast in the show. Because of their bond, Hargitay was once called Meloni’s second wife, and Hargitay eventually caught wind of the title.

Hargitay and Meloni seemed almost inseparable as Svu partners Olivia Benson and Elliot Stabler. Their authenticity as these characters stemmed from their natural chemistry, which Hargitay felt as soon as they auditioned. Seeing strong and impactful female characters on TV inspires us, rallying us to do better like these females have done whenever the chips were down.
Some of these characters have inspired us for years, like Svu’s Olivia Benson or Btvs’s Buffy Summers, while other females have only recently hit our TV screens, like The Way Home’s Del Landry. However, these female characters have resonated with us over the years.
Some of the stories may have hit too close to home, like Netflix’s Georgia Miller running from an abusive past, and we cheered her on every step of the way.
We want to honor and recognize these women during National Women’s Month. They’ve taught us that we can achieve our dreams and not let anyone mess with us.
Check out the list below:
