David O. Russell doesn’t have a perfect track record when it comes to dealing with people, and he certainly isn’t known as a people pleaser. Over the years, many Hollywood actors have spoken out about their experiences with the director, and George Clooney is no exception. When the two worked together on Three Kings, Clooney described the experience as “truly, without exception, the worst experience of my life.” Here’s why.

George Clooney’s Experience Working with David O. Russell
Considering David O. Russell‘s track record, the director, as he often does, managed to rub George Clooney the wrong way too. There were some instances on set that were truly unbearable for both of them, as well as for those around them in the crew, but there was one occasion where things went a bit too far.

The star’s creep back to mainstream movies needs expediting with another junky Netflix offering that feels beneath her talent
The curse of auburn-haired American women heading to Ireland for terrible magic-themed romcoms continues, 14 years after Amy Adams took an unfortunate vacation in the detestable Leap Year (a film that even her co-star Matthew Goode generously referred to as “turgid” within weeks of its release). There’s less at stake here – Adams was a two-time Oscar nominee leading her first romantic comedy – but we’re left in a similarly unremarkable place, a persuasive tourism ad masquerading as a real movie.
That might have sounded like a big enough get for star Lindsay Lohan a few years ago, when she was still trying to break her way out of Hollywood jail. A mixture of bad film choices, bad life decisions and bad behaviour left her an uninsurable pariah, even if she...

Computer-generated imagery (CGI) has become commonplace in today's movies, from action and superhero films to sci-fi and fantasy epics. James Cameron's Avatar was revolutionary for its use of CGI throughout the movie, executed most notably through motion capture, but not everyone is Cameron.
CGI is incredibly difficult and expensive to get right, so it's not surprising that there are so many movies with poor CGI. Big action scenes and de-aging effects remain the most difficult to pull off. Experts can find flaws in most CGI, but the absolute worst movies have CGI mistakes that even a casual viewer can spot.
Updated by Jordan Iacobucci on March 11, 2024: As Hollywood promises to reform its special effects departments with better conditions, it seems that more and more movies have less-than-superb CGI. Typically associated with unfair due dates and harsh working conditions, bad CGI is more prevalent now than ever before.

The DC Universe's varied Superman depictions include iconic Fortress of Solitude appearances with differing success levels. Superman's crystal fortress, a tribute to his alien background, serves as a retreat for contemplation, training, and solitude. Zack Snyder revealed Batman v Superman almost got an R-rating due to Batman fighting Superman, a strange reason from the ratings board. Snyder believes his director's cut of Batman v Superman is much better, showcasing the impact of different edits on a film. James Gunn's DC Universe embraces R-rated content with Creature Commandos, acknowledging the success of darker superhero projects.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice came very close to being an R-rated theatrical release according to Zack Snyder. It is now eight years since Snyder’s second movie really kicked off his grand plan for the Dceu following Man of Steel three years earlier. Even now, the director is still answering questions about the movie, and his time leading the DC franchise for Warner Bros. Pictures. In a new interview, Snyder explained how the Motion Picture Association of America almost slapped an R-rating on the movie for a very strange reason.

In early 2021, Megan Ellison emerged from a self-imposed Hollywood exile and did something she hadn’t done in over a year: She signed on to back a movie, Nimona. There was a time when this would not have been remarkable, when Ellison’s Annapurna Pictures was producing five films a year and she was considered the industry’s own Medici, the premier patron of prestige cinema. But Ellison had backed away from Hollywood in 2019 after a series of missteps and become elusive even to some of her own executives. When her former distribution chief, Erik Lomis, asked her whether she wanted to look at some reels of Nimona, which was about to get axed in Disney’s closure of Blue Sky Animation, “I wasn’t really engaging in new film projects at the time,” Ellison said, answering THR’s questions by email. “But being curious, I said yes.”

When, in a Feb. 7 report, short-sellers eviscerated Soho House — pronouncing it “a zero,” prophesying it would “meet the same fate” as notorious IPO flameout WeWork — the company’s crisis of cool had already been years in the making. The publicly listed private members club, a seeming oxymoron bearing the sticker symbol Shco, has for years faced brickbats about how it shed its exclusive appeal: It morphed from a Hollywood-favored hangout with just a few outposts in London, Manhattan and Los Angeles into an international empire of 42 locations with a quarter million dues-paying clients. But now, along with serious allegations about its accounting and critiques of its debt levels, the club is also fending off mortifying questions about overexpansion, overcrowding and brand dilution.

Greenhouse has its two leads in place as Adam McKay looks to tackle global warming in his follow-up to 2021’s Don’t Look Up.

The film was widely viewed on the streaming platform and lots of folks enjoyed its satirical take on the way the human race might reasonably be expected to respond if an Extinction Level Event chanced to head in our general direction.
For one reason or another, however, Adam McKay’s plans for a further collaboration with Netflix were dropped. Winning an Academy Award, whether it is for Best Picture or an unheralded below-the-line category, should never be taken for granted. Not only is an Oscar the highest honor in the industry, but it also recognizes a limited number of artists and craftspeople. Peter O'Toole, Alfred Hitchcock, Robert Mitchum, and Cary Grant, along with being prodigious figures in Hollywood, all share one commonality: they never won a competitive Oscar in their lifetime. Living stars such as Glenn Close, Amy Adams, Tom Cruise, and Willem Dafoe are still chasing that coveted statuette, even after countless nominations. However, no Oscar contender has had quite the bad break that sound mixer Greg P. Russell has experienced. If going 0 for 17 in nominations wasn't defeating enough, Russell had one of his nods stripped away from him by the Academy.

Making Blade Runner 2049 was a challenging but important step in Villeneuve's career, navigating a big-budget sci-fi sequel. Villeneuve had uncertainties about taking on the project but sought Scott's approval, wanting to honor the original movie. The experience of Blade Runner 2049 prepared Villeneuve to tackle other big-budget projects, like his Dune duology.
As he continues to grow a different sci-fi universe, Denis Villeneuve is looking back on his experience making Blade Runner 2049. The 2017 movie served as a legacy sequel to Ridley Scott's 1982 classic adaptation of Phillip K. Also led by Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas and Sylvia Hoeks, the movie garnered widespread acclaim on release, but was a box office disappointment, only grossing $267.5 million against its reported $185 million production budget.

A year ago, DC Studios announced they were bringing back their caped superhero in the movie Superman: Legacy. The studio’s CEO and filmmaker, James Gunn, will direct the film. Everyone initially thought Henry Cavill would reprise his role from the Man of Steel. However, the studios announced an entirely new cast. Actor David Corenswet will play Clark Kent, aka Superman, and Rachel Brosnahan will essay Lois Lane.

A couple of months back, James Gunn stated that the Superman: Legacy suit will not be revealed before the movie starts filming. But there’s an update regarding it from Rachel Brosnahan, who will play the role of Lois Lane. The 33-year-old actress recently teased the new Man of Steel suit that will be worn by co-star David Corenswet in Superman: Legacy.
Superman: Legacy is slated to star David Corenswet as the Dcu’s Man of Steel
Rachel Brosnahan has become the fourth actress to play the iconic DC Comics character on the big screen after Margot Kidder, Kate Bosworth, and Amy Adams. Superman: Legacy, which will be the first feature film of the Dcu, will see David Corenswet joined by Nicholas Hoult, who plays the supervillain Lex Luthor.

“I’m still preparing,” Rachel Brosnahan said Saturday on the SAG Awards red carpet about her big role as Lois Lane in James Gunn’s DC movie Superman: Legacy.
“I’m talking to some journalists, I’m reading a lot of comics — so many I hadn’t read before,” added the actress. “It’s been really fun to dig into this universe.”
Watch the conversation below.
Deadline’s chat with Brosnahan on the red carpet tonight comes in the wake of Gunn assembling the entire cast for a photo at the first script reading in Atlanta earlier this week. One of the big surprises was seeing Nicholas Hoult having already shaved head for his turn as Lex Luthor.
A big deal for Brosnahan during that get-together: “I got to see the suit — and I was blown away!,” said. Suit, meaning not Lane’s but rather the Man of Steel’s...

Arrival deals with an alien species known as the Heptapods arriving on Earth. Amy Adams' Dr. Louise Banks tries to learn from them with the help of Jeremy Renner's Ian Donnelly. What they come to discover is that the Heptapods have a lot to offer humanity, including how to look at one's life and the value it has.
Arrival tells a story about alien life forces known as Heptapods taking residence in different parts of the world in dome-like objects. Floating in the sky, they make no moves to attack. In order to make contact with the aliens, the military hires Dr. Louise Banks (Amy Adams), a notable linguistics professor, to translate their language and ask what their purpose is for being on Earth. With the help of theoretical physicist Ian Donnelly (Jeremy Renner), the duo sets out to solve the complicated puzzle. Meanwhile, the entire world becomes anxious about these visitors,...

We have seen time and time again just how exceptional a filmmaker Christopher Nolan is when any project that he’s associated with goes on to receive some of the most pristine critical reception seen in years. But other than several behind-the-scenes footage and interviews, we have never seen him making the most of his time in front of the camera.
Tom Hardy and Christopher Nolan on the sets of The Dark Knight Rises
But it seems like lately, the prolific director has started to open up a bit when he is being shot through the lens of a device, which recently saw him trying his hands at some comical quips with fellow filmmaker Denis Villeneuve. In a recent video, we could see Nolan try to crack a simple joke while announcing the re-release of his film Tenet, which despite being very simple, has managed to crack up the fans.

Christian Bale is known for completely morphing his body to better fit the characters he plays. But there was one feature where Bale’s commitment led to serious injury, which prompted the director to step in.

Bale is no stranger to losing and gaining weight for film roles. One of his most dramatic transformations happened in the David O. Russell movie American Hustle. The 2013 feature saw him playing Irving Rosenfeld, who was inspired by real-life conman Melvin Weinberg. Bale had to achieve a very heavy-set look for the role, which required him to eat anything that he could get his hands on.
“I ate lots of doughnuts, a whole lot of cheeseburgers and whatever I could get my hands on. I literally ate anything that came my way,” Bale told People in 2013. “I was about 185 and went up...

Jim Lee at DC Comics wanted a graphic novel series based on Manganiello's Deathstroke screenplay, which was a casualty of the Dceu's dismantling. Advice from James Gunn helped Manganiello let go of trying to resurrect his version of Deathstroke in another creative attempt. Manganiello felt Deathstroke was behind him after Ben Affleck's Batman film got cancelled, but the opportunity to reprise the role returned with Zack Snyder's Justice League.
Joe Manganiello has come a long way since bullying Tobey Maguire in Spider-Man (2002). Diehard Marvel fans undoubtedly remember Flash Thompson (Manganiello) getting his well-deserved comeuppance at the hands of Peter Parker (Maguire), but Manganiello’s move to the Dceu just never seemed to pan out. And now Manganiello reveals how some sage advice from DC Studios CEO James Gunn helped the actor let go of another creative attempt to resurrect his interpretation of Deathstroke. True Detective has to be one of the most brilliant anthology mystery thriller shows ever made. Originally created by Nic Pizzolatto, the HBO series told a dark and haunting tale through the brilliant performances by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in its first season. The quality of the series took a nosedive in its second season and the third season while better from Season 2 didn’t really match the expectation that the inaugural season of True Detective set. Now, we are in Season 4 titled Night Country and with a new creative force behind the series, the fans are getting exactly what they want. So, if you have already finished the much awaited Season 4 of True Detective and are hoping for a renewal, here are some similar shows you could watch while waiting for the new season.

In 2022, after a decade of trying to keep up with the Marvel Cinematic Universe and largely failing, Warner Bros. and DC decided a drastic course correction was required. The first step was to wind down the so-called DC Extended Universe or Dceu, and bid its chief architect, Zack Snyder, adieu. But even the shuttering of this ill-fated cinematic project proved to be a bit of a mess.
At the start of 2023, Warner Bros. found itself in the unenviable position of having announced the end of the Dceu with four movies tied to that on-screen universe still to release. Meanwhile, James Gunn and producer Peter Safran took over as co-heads of the newly-dubbed DC Studios and announced the DC Universe — a totally different project to the Dceu that may or may not have a few of the old characters popping up from time to time.

Sony’s Madame Web hit theaters worldwide on Valentine’s Day, and the film is getting universally panned by critics and fans alike.
Criticism is being aimed at almost every aspect of the movie, including its messy plot, sub-par dialogue, poor special effects, and miscasting of its star ensemble.
Much criticism has been directed at the casting of Sydney Sweeney as Julia Carpenter, the awkward teenage girl destined to become a Spider-Woman.
However, as these five previous roles prove, Sweeney hasn’t always been so miscast as she was in the terrible Madame Web.

Sydney Sweeney as Alice in Sharp Objects.
The miniseries Sharp Objects is an HBO psychological thriller based on Gillian Flynn’s brilliant 2006 debut novel. It chronicles the exploits of an alcoholic crime reporter, only recently discharged from a psychiatric ward after self-harming for years, who returns to her hometown to investigate the murders of two young girls.

Superman's killing of General Zod in "Man of Steel" divided viewers, and the same is true for DC comic book writers. Some supporters of the movie cite how Superman has killed before in other media or how Zod's death raised the emotional stakes for Superman. Those who disagree think Man of Steel didn't make the situation feel un-winnable enough without killing or simply don't like the idea of Superman taking a life so early in the Dceu (or at all).
Superman’s controversial killing of General Zod at the end of Man of Steel divided not only Dceu viewers and longtime readers of Superman comics, but also comic creators themselves. The recently-concluded DC Extended Universe began on a divisive note with 2013’s Man of Steel. You know what's really got me excited for "Superman: Legacy"? Aside from director James Gunn previously delivering the best movies that Marvel Studios has had to offer, Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane. Just as her soon-to-be co-star David Corenswet looks like Superman in the flesh, Brosnahan looks so much like how Lois is drawn: a gaze that sees through you and yet attracts your own, round and slender face with a strong chin, and brunette.
It's not all looks though, Brosnahan has got the talent and attitude to back it up. Check out her leading performance in the 2020 thriller "I'm Your Woman" as Jean, a housewife caught up in a crime. Jean is more naive than Lois, but they share a proper spine and a good heart. Brosnahan is best known, though, for awards darling series "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" — playing a snappy, mid-century New Yorker like Midge Maisel...

Actress Sandra Hüller shines in two Best Picture nominees at the 2024 Oscars, a noteworthy achievement for someone without an established Hollywood presence. Hüller's performances in Anatomy of a Fall and The Zone of Interest have received acclaim, showcasing her range and the nuance she brings to each role. While Hüller's Best Actress nomination for Anatomy of a Fall is groundbreaking, she faces tough competition from Emma Stone and Lily Gladstone for the award.
As is the case every year, the 2024 Oscars has gathered an impressive array of nominees, yet one comparatively unsung actress has already stolen the show with her performance in two Best Picture nominees. While it's not unusual for some actors to appear in multiple acclaimed movies in a single year, managing to feature in two such high-profile releases is undoubtedly a noteworthy achievement. To do so without having the clout of an established Hollywood presence is perhaps even more impressive.

Among the various distinctions “Everything Everywhere All at Once” incurred by winning seven awards at the 95th Oscars was becoming the first film in a dozen years (and ninth overall) to conquer both supporting acting categories. This rare occurrence involved Ke Huy Quan and Jamie Lee Curtis preventing their respective “The Banshees of Inisherin” competitors from accomplishing the same goal, as the sets of featured nominees from “Belfast” and “The Power of the Dog” had both failed to do one year earlier. Now, two more pairs of cast mates – who happen to hail from the two highest-grossing live action movies of 2023 – are gunning for entry into this exclusive club.

Once Marvel came calling, Taika Waititi was shot out of his comedy environment and was given the keys to a lot of blockbuster material. While “Akira” never surfaced, and neither has his “Star Wars” project yet, the filmmaker has spent the second half of his career vacillating between big-budget movies (two “Thor” movies for Marvel) and smaller-scale comedic indies. So while Waititi’s last movie, “Next Goal Wins,” was a Searchlight soccer comedy in a smaller vein, it was actually completed ages ago and held by the studio for the right date.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) that goes rogue or turns evil has been a popular science-fiction trope for decades. In the modern era, where AI has become an increasingly growing problem in the entertainment industry, these films hit harder now than ever. In the real world, AI is mostly used to replace human artists, writers, and designers. While this is a huge problem, AI hasn't become deadly yet.
Hollywood has a long history of warning audiences about the dangers of AI, so it's ironic that Hollywood is now one of the biggest threats to replacing real people with AI. Fortunately, real Artificial Intelligence hasn't matured enough to match some of the most famous evil AI films. As it stands, AI can't control human-hunting Terminators or shut down an entire city's power on a whim. Movies have brought viewers some of the most deadly AIs known to fiction.

Remembering Philip Seymour Hoffman 10 Years Later: The Actor’s Best Roles, from ‘Twister’ to ‘Doubt’
The worst thing that could have happened to the film community did on February 2, 2014: Philip Seymour Hoffman, the great actor who transcended every project he graced, died alone of a drug overdose in his Manhattan apartment. Everyone remembers where they were when the news broke. His death was a shock to the system of all his collaborators and everyone in the creative community, but he left behind an Oscar-winning, untouchable body of work that, whenever revisited, gives the consistent feeling that he’s still among us.
Though Hoffman won his Academy Award for his etched-in-stone portrayal of a great American writer in “Capote,” Bennett Miller’s film is hardly the best work he ever did. The mid-’90s saw Hoffman begin a too-short of a lifelong collaboration with Paul Thomas Anderson, working together on films like “Hard Eight,” “Boogie Nights,” and “Magnolia” before playing a charismatic cult leader who...

We also know that Jenna Ortega will star as Klara in the movie, ‘ a robot girl created to prevent teenagers from becoming lonely.’
Now we learn that Amy Adams, it has been confirmed by Deadline, will play the mother of the child who Klara is purchased for.

‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ creator Tim Burton and ‘Gone Girl’ writer Gillian Flynn are tackling a remake of ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’ for Warner Brothers.
Burton is directing the upcoming film from a script by Flynn. The science-fiction horror story follows a wealthy heiress who grows into a giant after an alien encounter and exacts revenge on her cheating husband, reports Variety.
It’s unclear how closely this new take will follow the original 1958 movie, starring Allison Hayes, William Hudson and Yvette Vickers.
The first film reportedly carried a budget of just $88,000, so it’s reasonable to assume the remake will have a slightly higher price tag.
The project reteams Burton with Warner Bros., where he is currently working on the sequel to his 1988 movie ‘Beetlejuice’.
As per Variety, the follow-up film about a pesky poltergeist, newly and fittingly titled ‘Beetlejuice Beetlejuice’, will be released in theatres on...
