Legendary singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen, who is known as The Boss, recently performed at the Chase Center as part of his world tour with his E Street Band in San Francisco.
When he saw a sign that read, “Skipping school, sign my note?”, the ‘Born to Run’ hitmaker signed a young fan’s note to say they were “skipping school”. He obliged so the youngster could miss school, reports ‘Female First UK’.
Meanwhile, the ‘Dancing in the Dark’ hitmaker was recently unveiled as the first international artiste set to be inducted as a fellow of Britain’s Ivors Academy.
Springsteen is set to make history by following Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, Joan Armatrading and Sting by getting the honour.

An animated video for Mark Knopfler’s all-star charity single “Going Home (Theme From Local Hero)” – which brought together a stunning lineup of over 60 guitar gods to raise funds for Teen Cancer America and the Teenage Cancer Trust – has been released. It features the final recording of Jeff Beck along with contributions by Bruce Springsteen, David Gilmour, Slash, Ronnie Wood, Joan Jett, Eric Clapton, Pete Townshend, and Sting.
The song came out a week ago, but it was difficult to discern who was playing what part throughout the ten-minute song.

Mark Knopfler has teamed up with a host of fellow guitar legends to record a version of his song “Going Home (Theme from Local Hero)” to raise funds for Teenage Cancer Trust and Teen Cancer America.
The Dire Straits frontman tapped Eric Clapton, Slash (Guns N’ Roses), David Gilmour (Pink Floyd), Brian May (Queen), Tony Iommi (Black Sabbath), Pete Townshend (The Who), Alex Lifeson (Rush), Bruce Springsteen, Ronnie Wood (The Rolling Stones), Joan Jett, and many more, forming what he has dubbed “Mark Knopfler’s Guitar Heroes.” Notably, the star-studded version opens with the final recorded guitar track by the late Jeff Beck.
Knopfler’s longtime collaborator Guy Fletcher handled the production of the track, which might be the greatest assemblage of guitar talent to co-exist on a single song. The Sgt. Pepper‘s-style artwork was created by Sir Peter Blake.

A version of this response appeared on the Black Rock Coalition’s website.
When Rolling Stone co-founder Jann Wenner made offensive comments in The New York Times about women and Black artists, the Black Rock Coalition, which has battled stereotypes and musical categorizations about what rock is “supposed to be” since 1985, felt obligated to speak out and condemn his misogynistic and racist statements. While we were among many organizations and individuals to call out Wenner, he also had a number of supporters, citing his contributions to popular culture and to the world of music journalism.

Kate Hudson has explained why she found a Matthew McConaughey kissing scene “not that fun to shoot”.
The actor appeared opposite the Oscar winner in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days (2003) and Fool’s Gold (2008), and previously described a romantic scene they shared in the latter as “gross”.
“Every time I kissed McConaughey, I mean, it’s like there’s just something happening and there’s like snot, or wind,” Hudson, 43, said.
Speaking about the scene during a forthcoming appearance on The Jonathan Ross Show, Hudson explained that the reason it “was definitely not that fun to shoot” was due to the fact it occurred in the sea.
“Ocean, swimming and kissing is not always pleasant,” she said, adding: “Things happen in the ocean, like yuckiness… we’re like treading water trying to stay above water.”
Hudson continued: “Matthew and I have had very romantic kisses and then we’ve had very non-romantic kisses.

Life doesn't always go the way we planned, and the stories we tell ourselves aren't always true. In "The Good House," New England real estate agent Hildy Good, played by Sigourney Weaver, seems to have it all. She has the gorgeous house, the successful real estate business, and a potential romance with her high school flame, local construction contractor Frank (played by Kevin Kline). The only problem is that she's an alcoholic, and despite going through rehab for her daughter and convincing everyone that she's stayed sober, she hasn't. One glass of wine after dinner turns into one bottle, and before long, Hildy faces losing everything. "The Good House" is a funny, heartfelt drama with a killer cast, based on the novel of the same name by Ann Leary.

Armatrading, who became a trustee of the charity in 2020, appeared on Good Morning Britain on Thursday morning (15 September) to discuss her encounters with the royals.

She added: “The King is very interested in talking to people, he wants knowledge… [him and the Queen] are really interested in people, the world.”
Armatrading was made MBE by the former prince in the 2001 Birthday Honours and Cbe in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to music, charity and equal rights.

Joan Armatrading has always been a pioneer — but the world is finally catching up to her. She made her name in the early 1970s — a Black woman with a rock guitar, at a time when the radio couldn’t imagine such a thing. Over the past 50 years, she’s built her hardcore cult following by always going her own way, a fiercely independent voice who never sounds like anyone else. And with a whole new generation of female singer-songwriters rising up, from pop to indie rock, it makes sense that...

“Intolerance” would be a massive, amazing undertaking in 2013. Can you even put in perspective what it was like 100 years ago? Arguably one of the most important and influential silent films ever made, “Intolerance” runs almost three hours and covers centuries of storytelling. It’s a fascinating film both in the history of cinema and the way it addressed cultural concerns of the time. Cohen Media Group continues to expertly restore and highlight great films. They’re quickly rising the ranks of the most important Blu-ray studios working today.

I've made six or seven attempts at getting this recap started, and I keep deleting them and starting over. Because somehow I think I turned back into a 16-year-old girl with a broken heart because the girl who said she loved me is going out with a boy.
If you didn't watch, I'm talking about Santana Lopez, who broke every expectation I had of what this episode would be about, and told Brittany she loved her and wanted to be with her.
Is there anyone reading this who thought that would happen? Even one single person? Because if you did, please tell me right now what's going to happen with the economy, because you're definitely psychic.
And it's not like this episode's gay was all girl on girl, either. Kurt and Blaine had their moments, and Kurt and his dad had one of the best father-son sex talks in the history of television.

Regular viewers have seen Jax tell Stahl: "My club finds out and I'm dead," in the introductions to a number of this season's episodes. Expect a resolution in tonight's 90-minute finale, and while Jax is unlikely to end up dead (the series has been renewed), the viperous Atf rogue (Ally Walker) does hold the whip hand. But as the episode begins, Jax, the pregnant Tara and Abel are a family, and Clay and Gemma and Opie and Lyla are experiencing something approaching domestic bliss as well while the soundtrack plays Joan Armatrading's "This Charming Life." The tune changes quickly. Hell's Angels veteran Sonny Barger has a cameo as a prisoner. — Paul Droesch
Read on for previews of Christmas at Rockefeller Center, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Shrek the Halls, Raising Hope, Strange Days with Bob Saget and Victoria's Secret Fashion Show.

Singer/Songwriter Comes to Long Beach Terrace Theater Aug. 7 "Is she the one that sounds like Tracy Chapman?" That's a question often posed when explaining the musical wonderment of Joan Armatrading. Since the release of 1972's Whatever For Us, the European-based singer-songwriter has consistently satisfied lifelong fans and created new ones. Her success abroad is undeniable; America has welcomed her throughout the years, but never with the commercial success it has awarded some female singer-songwriters cut from the same cloth. Armatrading is touring and doing interviews in support of her 20th album, This Charming Life, and in her own words, "This would be a great album for America, if they would just give it a listen." This Charming Life is a return to Armatrading's rock and pop roots. She played every instrument on Charming, as well as on her previous two albums -- an...

The Big Music Machine is spitting out the twang and the soul this week. Usher falls short, Erykah Badu funks it up, Gretchen Wilson goes big, and Joan Armatrading comes back. "Who's Joan Armatrading," you ask? Play on... Is Usher the heir to Michael Jackson's "King of Pop" throne? [Poll] http://www.sodahead.com/entertainment/is-usher-the-heir-to-michael-jacksons-king-of-pop-throne/question-937115/ Skip: Usher, "Raymond v. Raymond" There are a few certainties within the musical world and one is this: as soon as an artist breaks up with his partner there will be an album about it. However, that doesn't mean it has to be a good one. Usher's divorce from his wife of two years, Tameka Foster, provides the backdrop for "Raymond v. Raymond" (the title is an homage to the '79 divorce flick "Kramer vs. Kramer"). Too bad it doesn't provide any inspiration. "Raymond v. Raymond" is filled with retread grooves, repressed...

Joan Armatrading's music covers a wide range of genres that include jazz, folk, rock, and pop. But it was her 2007 album, Into The Blues, that was nominated for a Grammy, debuting in the top spot of Billboard's blues chart. She was the first British female recording artist to be nominated in that category, and was listed as one of VH1's 100 most influential women. More nominations came at The Brit Awards, and she also received the Ivor Novello plaque among other industry acknowledgments. Almost four decades following her debut LP Whatever's For Us, she continues to be one of the most admired and respected singer-songwriters on both sides of the Atlantic. In 2010, the prolific singer-songwriter shifts musical gears again, delivering her 20th album, This Charming Life, a project that explores familiar musical territory, and is as personal and...

"Great LezBritian" is a fortnightly stroll through the very best of British lesbo-centric entertainment and culture. Plus there will be some jolly good interviews with the top ladies who are waving the flag for gay UK.
If AfterEllen.com was a British site, it would be called AfterSandi.com. We grew up watching Sandi Toksvig on children’s TV show Number 73 in the 80s, felt her pain as she sailed around Britain with John McCarthy in the 1990s and today we are entertained weekly by her Radio 4 panel show, The News Quiz.
She recently flew into Glasgow for the city’s book festival, Aye Write, and we had the privilege of spending a funny, informative and inspiring 40 minutes with her before her performance inside one of Glasgow’s grandest buildings, The Mitchell Library.
She arrived in the green room, a very short lady, with a massive presence and immediately told...
