Filmmaker Garrett Bradley is known for tackling pressing issues facing the Black community with her work. Her documentary short America painted a portrait of how Black people are represented in American culture while Alone, investigated the impact of mass incarceration on the modern Black family through the eyes of a single mother in New Orleans. This weekend, the prolific filmmaker makes her way into theaters with her feature documentary debut Time.

Stars: Robert De Niro, Christopher Walken, Cheech Marin, Jane Seymour, Uma Thurman, Rob Riggle, Oakes Fegley, Juliocesar Chavez, Laura Marano | Written by Tom J. Astle, Matt Ember | Directed by Tim Hill
Robert De Niro adds another grandpa comedy to his filmography with the serviceable but uninspired family comedy The War With Grandpa. Still, it could have been worse – at least it’s not Dirty Grandpa II.
Oakes Fegley (Pete’s Dragon) stars as Peter, a pre-teen kid who’s horrified to hear that he’ll have to give up his bedroom when his mother, Sally (Uma Thurman) insists that Grandpa Ed (De Niro) has to move in with them. Spurred on by best friend Billy (Juliocesar Chavez), Pete decides to declare war on his grandpa until he gets his room back. And when Ed lays out the rules of engagement, an escalating series of pranks and practical jokes ensues.

Move over, E.T.: There’s a new lovable alien on Earth and ironically he’s in a movie called Home. This new DreamWorks Animation confection is the company’s only planned release this year, and as I say in my video review above it is out-of-this-world fun for the whole family. The movie skews very, very young, but adults should be happy to go along for the ride on this road trip, though, because of the zippy dialogue in Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember’s screenplay and a fine…...

Originally slated for release this week, DreamWorks Animation opted to send their sci-fi adventure Home to theaters next spring. And since Penguins of Madagascar gets the prime holiday release slot this weekend, that means we get a new trailer for the film featuring the voice of Jim Parsons ("The Big Bang Theory") as the unfortunately nicknamed Oh, a clumsy alien in hiding on Earth. Speaking in a dialect that seems lifted from cat memes (you'll see what I mean), this guy seems to be a lovable walking accident, but there are more of his race (including Steve Martin as their leader) coming to our planet, looking for a new home. Watch! Here's the new trailer for DreamWorks Animation's Home, originally from Yahoo: Watch the original animated short film over here along with the first theatrical trailer right here. Home is directed by Tim Johnson (Shrek, Over the Hedge) and written...

It looks like DreamWorks Animation finally has another hit on its hands with sequel How to Train Your Dragon 2, which opens in theaters tonight. If Dragon does indeed breathe fire at the box office, the company’s executives will finally be able to relax a little, considering that three out of four of the studio’s last efforts - Rise of the Guardians, The Croods, Turbo and Mr. Peabody and Sherman – have been financial disappointments. Next up, the studio has Home, about a girl (voiced by Rihanna) who befriends an alien (Jim Parsons) on the run from his race.
Based on the first trailer, Home is a bit more risky than some of DreamWorks’ other ventures, but hopefully kids will show up in droves to see the cute aliens, called Boovs, at the movie’s center. The studio is clearly putting a lot of trust in director Chris Johnson (Antz,...

In recent years, DreamWorks has been upping their output significantly, and though the studio has had some icy patches, the future is looking very, very good. Home, the studio’s 3D animated buddy comedy, kicks off a trio of movies for next year, with the hugely anticipated Kung Fu Panda 3 closing the year over the Christmas weekend.
2015 is pretty much guaranteed to be an awesome year for animation lovers everywhere.
The studio is continuing the How to Train Your Dragon franchise this year with the second instalment in the upcoming trilogy, with talk of expanding it into a quadrilogy, and they’ve used the family-friendly sequel to introduce Home to the masses.
When the galaxy’s most annoyingly optimistic alien finds himself on the run from his own alien race, he’s forced to team up with a fiercely stubborn teenage girl. Together they become the most unlikely fugitives ever to save the planet.

DreamWorks Animation has released their fun sci-fi comedy short Almost Home online for everyone to see. You can see the short on the big screen as well. It's attached to the studio's feature film Mr. Peabody & Sherman, which was actually a really fun kids flick.
Almost Home is an adaptation of the children's book by Adam Rex, and the story follows an alien race on a search for a planet to hide from a mortal enemy. The leader of the alien race is actually voiced by Steve Martin. The movie was directed by Tim Johnson (Shrek, Over the Hedge) and it was written by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember (Get Smart, Epic). Here is the synopsis:
An overly optimistic, yet inept, alien race named Boov, led by Captain Smek (Martin), invades Earth to hide from their mortal enemy and make it a new home. Convinced they are doing a favor,...

Back in the middle of last year, DreamWorks Animation announced that it would be adapting Adam Rex’s book The True Meaning Of Smekday into Happy Smekday! with Jim Parsons and Rihanna nabbing the first two lead voice roles. Now Steve Martin and Jennifer Lopez are also aboard, and the film has been retitled to the less quirky (and a little more bland) Home. The buddy comedy, adapted by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember, finds Martin as Captain Smek, the leader of an optimistic alien race known as the Boov. When they arrive on Earth, they decide they like the place and begin to relocate humanity, somehow convinced that we’ll be eternally grateful. Clearly, they haven’t watched Independence Day or Mars Attacks!Among those standing against this seemingly peaceful invasion is a young girl (Rihanna) who avoids capture and must try to free her mother (Lopez) with...

Derivative as all get out and plainly concocted by a committee, "Epic" is a children's animated film that is more entertaining and emotional than it has any right to be.
Characters make sacrifices and die, miss their parents and mourn. And we're touched. At least a little. Hard (if over-familiar) lessons are learned and laughs land on queue. Throw in some truly gorgeous animation and Blue Sky, the studio that made it, delivers more proof that it's moved on from the junky cash-machine "Ice Age" movies, even if this one doesn't rise to the charms and wit of "Rio."
Taking characters from William Joyce children's novel about "Leaf Men" and "Brave Good Bugs," a team of writers has borrowed from "Antz" and "A Bug's Life," and even "Spiderwicke Chronicles," for a story about the fairy forces of life in a forest, the Leaf Men (and women) and their allies, in...

Written by Tom J. Astle and Matt Ember
USA, 2013
We are living in a golden age of animation, yet so many people working at Hollywood’s studio-funded animation companies are content working in the realm of the familiar. Too frequently, new mainstream animated films are like a big bowl of soup, with countless flavors that you’ve tasted before tweaked only slightly to not be total carbon copies of something bigger and often better. Blue Sky’s latest, distributed by 20th Century Fox, is no different: Epic is pleasingly colorful and well animated. Unfortunately, it is immensely derivative and thus, only moderately charming some of the time.
It would take as much space to review this movie as it would to catalog its many inspirations (the word we’ll use in the spirit of being charitable) and describe exactly how Epic echoes them. Like FernGully: The Last Rainforest,...

The last trailer we saw was released way back in November, and with its May release date fast approaching, Fox have debuted a new UK trailer through Orange.
“Epic is a 3D CG action-adventure comedy that reveals a hidden world unlike any other. From the creators of Ice Age and Rio, Epic tells the story of an ongoing battle deep in the forest between the forces of good who keep the natural world alive and the forces of evil who wish to destroy it. New posters are in for 20th Century Fox's Epic animated fantasy adventure starring Amanda Seyfried, Josh Hutcherson and Colin Farrell. The Chris Wedge-directed movie which hits theaters on May 24th, is scripted by Tom J. Astle, William Joyce, Matt Ember, Daniel Shere and James V. Hart. It's a very well-known voice cast, with some pretty slick-looking animation, adding Beyoncé Knowles, Christoph Waltz, Jason Sudeikis, Judah Friedlander, Pitbull, Aziz Ansari and Blake Anderson for other character work. Doesn't the ninth poster remind you of DreamWorks' How to Train Your Dragon? In Epic, a teen is whisked off to a deep forest. Here a battle is taking place between good and evil and she must band together with a rag-tag group characters in order to save their world -- and ours.

Hitting the big screen this spring, Epic marks the latest animated blockbuster from Blue Sky Studios, the people who’ve brought us the brilliance of Ice Age, Robots, and Rio.
The latest trailer surfaced back in November, giving us another great indication that this should be one of the strongest animated films of the year. And we’ve more recently followed that up with two great new posters in the past month.
With its May release date coming on the horizon, we’ve just had three new character posters sent our way, introducing us to Mk (Mary-Katherine), Nod, and Mandrake.

Back in December 2010, DreamWorks announced they were developing a new film by the name of Me and My Shadow that would combine CG and hand-drawn animation, in a way that sounded more ambitious than most animated films we’ve seen in a long time.
All has been fairly quiet on that front since then, but now the studio have released the first poster, via the film’s official Facebook, and it’s rather fantastic.
“In Spring 2014, DreamWorks Animation brings global audiences Me And My Shadow, an original project that pioneers a groundbreaking combination of both CG and traditional 2D animation techniques.
Me And My Shadow is the story of an extremely frustrated shadow, Shadow Dan – voiced by Bill Hader, who yearns for a dynamic life. Unfortunately, Shadow Dan happens to be stuck with the world’s most boring human as his “caster”, Daniel Grubb – voiced by Tony Award™ nominee Josh Gad.

Rihanna has a new man in her life, and, no, it's not Chris Brown ... or Drake. (Insert shocked gasps here.) Word around Tinseltown is that the songstress-turned-actress will join Jim Parsons, of "The Big Bang Theory" fame, to star in DreamWorks Animation's "Happy Smekday!"
While neither one of their gorgeous mugs will actually appear on-screen since it's animated and all, we have a feeling they'll be a true dream team.
Based on Adam Rex's children's book, "The True Meaning of Smekday," the story finds a group of aliens invading earth on Christmas Eve and renaming the holiday "Smekday" after being booted from their own planet by a villainous race called Gorg. The events are all recounted via an essay penned by an 11-year-old boy named Tip who travels cross-country with the alien that inadvertently put Earth on the Gorg's radar. Oops.
According to Collider, heavy-hitting "Get Smart" scribes Tom J. Astle...
