Lionsgate will handle U.S. distribution of eagerly awaited “Greenland” sequel “Greenland: Migration,” Variety can confirm.
STX, which has a distribution partnership with Lionsgate, is handling international distribution.
Directed by Ric Roman Waugh from a screenplay by Chris Sparling and Mitchell Lafortune, “Greenland: Migration” sees Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin return as John and Allison Garrity. Along with their diabetic son Nathan, the couple were forced to flee in the first film as a comet hurtled towards earth, threatening to destroy the planet. In the sequel the family embark on a perilous journey across what’s left of Europe to find a new home.
Butler and Baccarin are joined by Roman Griffin Davis (“Jojo Rabbit”), Amber Rose Revah (“The Punisher”) and Trond Fausa (“Oppenheimer”) in the film, which is produced by Anton, STX Entertainment, Thunder Road Pictures and Butler’s G-base Entertainment.

Christopher Nolan kicked off Universal’s CinemaCon presentation today in Las Vegas, taking the stage to talk about his thriller Oppenheimer, which releases in July. Cillian Murphy stars as the titular J. Robert Oppenheimer, the theoretical physicist whose work on the Manhattan Project led to the creation of the atomic bomb.
“I’m here with a story in the story of J Robert Oppenheimer,” Nolan said. “I know of no more dramatic tale with higher stakes, twists and turns and ethical dilemmas. … The finest minds in the country were in a desperate race against the Nazis to harness the power of the atom in World War II. Picture those same minds realizing the possibility that they might set fire to the entire world, yet they went ahead and pushed the button. I wanted to be there and see what that might be like.”

Turns out, the “end of an era” at Netflix was a false alarm.
Following recent reports that “Lilyhammer” would be leaving the service following the expiration of a 10-year licensing agreement, Netflix has closed a last minute deal to continue streaming the show. The news was revealed to IndieWire by Netflix, and means that all 24 episodes of Netflix’s first original series will continue to be available to subscribers.
“Lilyhammer” starred longtime E Street Band member Steven Van Zandt as a mobster who relocates to rural Norway after entering the witness protection program. The series was produced in Norway (Van Zandt was the only American cast member) and aired on the local TV channel NRK1. Netflix entered an agreement to stream “Lilyhammer” for 10 years, but the license was set to expire this month. Had a deal not been reached, “Lilyhammer” would have left the service in December.

"Death is a hard way to make a living." LevelFilm has revealed an official trailer for the indie dark comedy The Middle Man, the latest film made by an award-winning Norwegian filmmaker named Bent Hamer - one of his biggest hits was the indie Factotum from 2005 with Matt Dillon. This new one already premiered at the Toronto Film Festival last year, but it hasn't made its way down to the US yet despite taking place in the US. The film is set in Karmack, a small town in the American Midwest that is so economically depressed that it hires Frank Farrelli as a middle man to deliver bad news to people because none of the residents can bear to do it themselves anymore. Norwegian actor Pål Sverre Hagen stars as Frank, with a cast including Don McKellar, Kenneth Welsh, Paul Gross, Trond Fausa, Aksel Hennie, and Bill Lake. This looks like a very strange,...

Frank Farelli (Pål Sverre Hagen) has been unemployed in a dying town for quite some time. The area used to attract visitors in the past—not many, but enough to staff a hotel that’s now been closed for years. So too has the local movie theater. As the so-called “Commission” explains it, they may not be able to keep the streetlights going thanks to a dwindling budget caused by a lack of taxpayers. Not only has most of the town left, but those who inexplicably remain are currently suffering from a rash of accidental tragedies. And since Town Hall consists of those three men and a secretary (Tuva Novotny’s Brenda), someone is needed to break the bad news.
Enter a newly formed government position: The Middle Man. It won’t be easy, but Frank used to work a train station window before it also shut down and left...

Lilyhammer's 'gangster on the lam in a remote Norwegian town' story is a quirky, comic gem that richly deserves a fourth season...
Lilyhammer’s third season arrived on Netflix last November, bolder, bloodier and sillier than ever. The most recent batch of episodes, boasting a budget bigger than Norway’s Gdp, catapulted viewers from the cold climes of Scandinavia to the tropical slums of Rio de Janeiro and back again, with a few stop-offs in New York along the way. There was murder, intrigue, Islamic terrorism, a dying whale, a mafia cookbook, drug-running, a big-budget Brazilian telenovela, reindeer racing and of course the requisite explosions, gun fights and fist fights that are now a permanent staple of life in the quiet and quaint little town of Lillehammer. There was also a finale that featured one of the more bizarre cliff-hangers in modern television history: a bludgeoned breast-crazed maniac lying...

Lilyhammer: Trailer Released for Netflix's First Original Series
The 1994 Winter Olympics in Lilyhammer, Norway went down in history as the first showdown between figure skaters Nancy Kerrigan and Tanya Harding following the clubbing heard 'round the world. It brought a type of tabloid-ready juiciness to a typically stately event, culminating in "good girl" Kerrigan taking home the silver medal despite her Gilloly-inflected injuries. Some 18 years later, Lilyhammer is getting the pop culture spotlight once again, though this time for fictional violence as opposed to real life criminality.
Netflix has released the trailer for Lilyhammer, its first original scripted series to make its debut. In the eight episode drama, starring series co-writer Steve van Zant (The Sopranos), we meet Frank Tagliano, a state's witness in a mob trial who is forced to relocate for his own safety. The place he chooses to begin his next life? You guessed it, Lilyhammer,...

Three young Italian fans of black metal (Azzurra Antonacci, Leandro Guerrini and Alberto Daniele Troiana) are travelling to Bergen for Norway’s infamous Hole in the Sky (Hits) festival. Home For Christmas
Stars: Nina Andresen Borud, Trond Fausa Aurvaag, Arianit Berisha, Joachim Calmeyer | Written and Directed by Bent Hamer
Bent Hamer demonstrates restraint and poise in this collection of interlinked Christmas tales, set on Christmas Eve in a small Norwegian town. An estranged father must find a way to get his presents to his children, a doctor is called away from his home to assist a desperate couple, a Muslim girl forges a friendship with a fellow non-celebrator, a woman hopes to finally lure her lover away from his wife, an old man prepares for a guest and a homeless man struggles to get back to his hometown.
On the face of it, little seems to appeal: interlinked vignettes are somewhat old hat and it seems a little unseasonal for Christmas movies just yet. And besides, everybody knows that the only Christmas movies worth watching are Muppets’ Christmas Carol and Die Hard.
