In the "Futurama" episode "A Big Piece of Garbage", Fry (Billy West), Bender (John Dimaggio), and the rest of the Planet Express crew traveled into space to encounter a moon-sized ball of garbage that had been expelled from Earth many centuries before. Among the heaps of trash on the garbage moon, they find a pile of discarded Bart Simpson toys. Bender eats its shorts. The existence of "Simpsons" merchandise in "Futurama" gave the series a pretty bold stance. As the show's co-creator, David X. Cohen said on a DVD commentary track, "The Simpsons" is fiction, while "Futurama" takes place in the real world.
This notion, however, was challenged by a 2014 "Simpsons"/"Futurama" crossover episode called "Simpsorama," wherein Bender went back in time to murder one of the Simpsons, as one of the family's DNA had evolved to create a species of killer rabbit monsters — monsters that would attack the planet — a millennium hence.

Futurama came back to San Diego Comic-Con today to celebrate the revival of the Matt Groening-David X. Cohen series, which hits Hulu on Monday, July 24. Attendees in a packed Ballroom 20 were entreated to the season’s first episode “The Impossible Stream”
It’s been ten years since we last saw this motley crew on Comedy Central.
Director Peter Avanzino fielded a kid’s question who wondered if robot Bender’s doppelganger, Flexo was coming back. Avanzino gave that a definite maybe. Flexo, who looks similar to the series main robot protag, is known for speaking contrary to how he actually feels, before correcting himself; often seen when he slanders or insults an individual only to follow with, “nah, I’m just messin’ with ya; you’re all right.”
Avanzino mused that he’d love to see the return of Enema bot “who had one or two lines in...

Although "Futurama" has not aired nearly as many episodes as shows like "South Park" or "Family Guy," it has been around for pretty much the same amount of time. Including the upcoming revival, "Futurama" is a show that's gone on for over 23 years without completely dying. This means that, like other long-running cartoons of its time, the "Futurama" showrunners had to figure out how to gracefully deal with the transition from standard definition to high definition.
The main change with switching to HD was the difference in the screen ratio. Whereas the earlier "Futurama" episodes are in that square, 4:3 ratio meant to fit the screen of an older TV, new episodes have the modern standard aspect ratio of 16:9. The wider screen means the show has a more cinematic feel, and of course it makes the show look much better on a modern TV. This led to a slight problem for the "Futurama" directors,...

It's the final entry in Wesley's top 100 Christmas TV episodes of all time list, numbers 20 to 1. Merry Christmas to all!
Read entries 100 - 81 here, entries 80 - 61 here, entries 60 - 41 here, and entries 40 - 21 here.
Since the medium’s infancy, viewers have enjoyed sharing holidays with their favourite television characters. We grow invested in our friends on screen over the years; spending Christmas with them is a rite of passage, a chance for us to share tradition from our world with the fictional ones we see on screen. Some shows embrace the season wholeheartedly, characters in good spirits and enjoying the trappings of the season; others skew a little darker, bringing the more oppressive, burdensome side of the holidays to life. Either way, Christmas episodes tend to demonstrate the strengths of our favourite series, and it’s long been a festive ritual of mine to wheel out old...

Fans of A&E's Western "Longmire," there's some potential good news about a Season 3.
On Thursday (Aug. 29), executive producer John Coveny tweeted the sturdy-rated series was renewed for a Season 3. "Thanks to the 5 million plus weekly fans (live+7). Young and older skewing alike," he writes. "The call just came in: Season 3 for #Longmire is a Go!"
Before you start celebrating, however, it should be noted that the network has yet to confirm the renewal. A Season 3 is likely, thanks to Monday's Season 2 finale and its season high ratings, but let's not put the cart before the horse, as they say.
More TV news and notes:
- As "Futurama" prepares to sign off the good for the second time on Wednesday (Sept. 4), Comedy Central has revealed plans to make the night more of an event. A pair of online companion shows, to be hosted by Chris Hardwick, will bookend the finale,...

Chicago – If one were listing the most influential people in the history of television, right there next to legends like Rod Serling, Gene Roddenberry, and Norman Lear, would have to lie Matt Groening, the man who reinvented TV animation for all time. Two of his creations, “Futurama” and “The Simpsons,” had volumes released recently on Blu-ray and both are typically Filled with remarkable special features. We’ve said it before — Fox animation is the standard when it comes to TV on Blu-ray.

What do the 2002-03 season of “The Simpsons” and the most recent episodes of “Futurama” have in common other than their creator? Both won the Emmy for Best Animated Series. I would argue that neither set displays their show in their prime but they’re better than you remember. Those of you who haven’t caught up with “Futurama” since it was resurrected by Comedy Central may...

Futurama: Into the Wild Green Yonder brings the Futurama series back from the lesser performances of the second and third direct to DVD releases. When I slid the Blu-ray into my PS3 about five different thoughts flitted through my head: please be great, please be really great, please be great, please be funny, please be great. I wasn't being all that creative at the time as my mind's obsession with a suitable ending(?) to the Futurama series had been plaguing my thoughts since the third Futurama movie failed to impress. Bender's Game took stale jokes and put them into the Futurama universe. I recognized the necessity to pay lip service to a genre of nerdery that had been neglected thus far in the Futurama movies - but it had gone too far on too little material. Into the Wild Green Yonder makes no such mistake.

Chicago – Still trying to get over an Oscar hangover? There’s no better way to deflate the pomposity of awards season than with a wicked car chase. Of course, one of the best of all time hit Blu-Ray this week in the controversial Blu-Ray release of “The French Connection,” but the same studio also released another pair of movies dedicated to automobile aficionados and an animated sci-fi comedy when all the metal destruction gets too much to take.
Two of the best car movies of all time - 1971’s “Vanishing Point” and 1998’s “Ronin” - hit Blu-Ray for the first time this week and the final “Futurama” movie, “Into the Wild Green Yonder” also hit the format. All three of these titles were released on February 24th, 2009.
