Big screen shark attack sequel Meg 2: The Trench will be swimming into theaters on August 4, 2023, and today the film has received its official rating from the MPA.
Like the previous film, Meg 2: The Trench has been rated “PG-13” for…
“Action/violence, some bloody images, language and brief suggestive material.”
Last week’s bloody official trailer suggested that Meg 2 could potentially be going a bit harder on the violence than the disappointing 2018 movie, but there was realistically no way Warner Bros. was going to risk potentially cutting into the sequel’s box office profits with an “R” rating.
The good news? As the trailer suggests, there are a lot of gruesome ways a massive shark can eat people – and other monsters, including a T-Rex this time around! – while still sticking to that PG-13 rating. After all, the three Megalodon sharks in the upcoming movie are so large that they’re literally swallowing humans whole,...

Here’s hoping the most hilarious moments aren’t in the over-the-top, action-packed trailer for Warner Bros. Pictures’ Meg 2: The Trench. The stunts have a Fast and Furious feel – they are implausible yet impressive – and the plot surpasses the first film, The Meg (2018), in terms of megalodon encounters. In the original movie, Jason Statham battled a colossal sea creature, but in the sequel, there are not one, not two, but three Megs for Statham and crew to take on.
Statham’s joined in this wild adventure by Wu Jing, Sophia Cai, Page Kennedy, Sergio Peris-Mencheta, Skyler Samuels, and Cliff Curtis.
The original The Meg was directed by Jon Turteltaub, but it’s Ben Wheatley who takes over the reins for the sequel. The Meg‘s Jon Hoeber, Erich Hoeber, and Dean Georgaris wrote the screenplay, based on Steve Alten’s novel The Trench. Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Belle Avery serve as producers,...

Going to the beach is about to get a bit scarier with the release of sci-fi horror movie “The Meg.”
The Warner Bros. film centers around an 80-foot prehistoric shark that emerges from the Mariana Trench, the deepest part of the world’s oceans in the Pacific Ocean.
“‘The Meg’ is ‘Jaws’ on steroids,” Rainn Wilson, who plays a villainous billionaire in the movie, told Variety on Monday at the film’s Hollywood premiere.
But still sorta family-friendly with a PG-13 rating, says director Jon Turteltaub.
“You’d be surprised how quickly you can cross that line to R, depending on the amount of blood, so the big thing for me is not to change tone,” Turteltaub said. “If you suddenly go from a regular action movie to ‘The Exorcist,’ you’ve got a problem.”

“An underwater monster is the scariest thing,” noted Page Kennedy, whose character supervises the dive...

WaterTower Music has announced today’s release of the soundtrack to the science fiction action thriller “The Meg,” directed by Jon Turteltaub (the “National Treasure” movies), which will be released in theaters August 10, 2018. The soundtrack features music from the film composed by Harry Gregson-Williams (“The Town,” the “Equalizer” films, the “Shrek” franchise), and will be released on August 3rd, one week before the film is in theaters.
Harry Gregson-Williams is one of Hollywood’s most sought-after composers, whose scores span the spectrum of high-profile projects from action to drama to animation – each infused with the emotional punch and atmospheric intensity that mark his distinctive musical style. The Golden Globe- and Grammy Award-nominated composer offers, “For ‘The Meg,’ I set out to create a memorable recognizable sonic motif which follows the mystery of the great Megalodon—something robust in nature, which acted as a kind of warning call and instilled an...

After two decades in the deep waters of development, prehistoric shark actioner “The Meg” is finally ready to swim into the late-summer box office.
Steve Alten, the author of the novel on which the film is based, thought many times over that the project might sink without a ripple. When Alten was 15 in 1975, he became a huge fan of Steven Spielberg’s smash hit “Jaws” — which inspired him to begin exploring the idea of a giant prehistoric shark species somehow surviving in today’s world.
Hollywood has produced plenty of shark movies since “Jaws,” but “Meg” was stuck in development hell for more than two decades. It’s finally being released on Aug. 10, starring Jason Statham, directed by Jon Turteltaub, and written by Dean Georgaris and brothers Jon and Erich Hoeber.
Like “Skyscraper,” which doubled its domestic launch in China, “The Meg” is a part-Chinese production that’s looking to...

“Two things I like in life. A shark. And Statham!” Humans are deathly afraid of sharks, but we keep coming back for more everytime a new film is released about them.

Earlier this week, Warner Bros. uncaged the first trailer for Jon Turteltaub’s The Meg. Scheduled for release towards the end of the blockbuster season, the very thought of watching Jason Statham go toe-to-toe with a prehistoric super-shark on a blistering summer night is enough to get a cinephile perspiring.
An adaptation of Steve Alten’s Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror, Turteltaub’s rendition, like most book-to-film translations, will be an experience that differs, if only slightly, from the adventure found on the pages written by the New York Times Bestselling author.
While the trailer for The Meg received mostly positive feedback, fans of Alten’s source material aren’t too pleased with Warner Bros.’ deviations from the book. They’re so exasperated, in fact, that the author’s now penned an extensive Facebook post to address those who’ve been grousing about the “few minutes of trailers.”

Warner Bros has dropped the first trailer for summer shark pic The Meg. The Jason Statham-starrer is a sci-fi thriller about a prehistoric 75-foot-long predator, the Megalodon, who threatens the lives of a research team trapped underwater — and, yes, the fate of the ocean itself. As far as summer popcorn fare, the tagline says it all: “Chomp On This.”
Jon Turtletaub directs from a screenplay by Dean Georgaris and Jon Hoeber & Erich Hoeber that’s based on the New York Times bestseller by Steve Alten.
The film is eyed to take a bite out of the Chinese box office. It was made with China, is set off the mainland’s coast and co-stars Li Bingbing. Plus, Statham is a big draw at local turnstiles.

Eli Roth is reportedly in talks to direct the long in gestation giant prehistoric shark movie "Meg" at Warner Bros. Pictures.
Based on the Steve Alten novel, the story follows two men who band together to neutralize an ancient and gigantic 20m/60ft long shark, the Carcharodon Megalodon, that's threatening the California coast.

First published back in 1997 and with a film adaptation stuck in development hell pretty much ever since, it has been frankly years since there's been any movement on the film adaptation of Steve Alten's 1997 giant prehistoric shark novel "Meg".
Yesterday, The Tracking Board reported that the project is now at Warner Bros. Pictures and is reportedly moving forward there as a "priority development".
The story follows two men from opposite points of view that are forced to band together in order to neutralize the terror that’s threatening the California coast - the Carcharodon megalodon, a giant prehistoric shark that could literally eat a Tyrannosaurus Rex in seconds.
At last report, Dean Georgaris ("The Manchurian Candidate") had penned the latest draft of the script. The report also lists Colin Wilson ("Jurassic Park," "Avatar") and Belle Avery as producers.

Idris Elba has one of the coolest names. It's probably not for that reason he's doing so well at the moment, but it has to be a factor. According to Deadline, he is to play the lead in Cross, the latest installment to be adapted from James Patterson's Dr. Alex Cross saga.
Originally played by Morgan Freeman in the two previous films made about the character, in 1997's Kiss The Girls and 2001's Along Came A Spider, it is thought that David Twohy, who is directing, desired a younger lead than Freeman so that he could put the 'action' back into 'action hero'.
