This Christmas Eve, BBC One brings a festive treat with “Not Going Out” at 10:00 Pm. In this special episode, the affable Lee pulls out all the stops to craft the perfect Christmas for his family, aligning with Lucy’s desire to embrace charity during the season. Their goodwill extends to inviting Wilfred, a lonely pensioner from a nearby care home, to share in their Christmas dinner.
However, the holiday spirit takes an unexpected turn as they learn that Wilfred is prohibited from consuming alcohol. Lee’s aspirations for the ideal Christmas face a hiccup, leading to comical situations and the trademark humor that “Not Going Out” is known for. As the family navigates the challenges of accommodating their non-drinking guest, viewers can anticipate a blend of laughter, heartwarming moments, and the quirky charm that defines the series. Warning: This contains spoilers for Not Going Out
Back in 2015, during a BBC Breakfast interview about series seven of Not Going Out, presenter Bill Turnbull asked Lee Mack: “Did you ever imagine when you first got that pilot that you’d get seven series?”
“I didn’t think we’d even get a series,” Mack answers incredulously, explaining that even going from script to a pilot episode felt like “the biggest hurdle”.
And yet, eight years later (17 since the show began in 2006), Not Going Out has now almost doubled its series from seven to 13, still regularly pulling in audiences of over four million, with the newest series arriving on BBC One on Friday 23rd June at 9pm. As ever, the show will focus on Lee Mack as a fictionalised version of himself, alongside his landlady-turned-wife and sparring partner Lucy, and their eventful and often farcical life together.

If you’re the kind of person who tuts at pre-December Christmas trees and moans about supermarkets simultaneously stocking mince pies and Halloween goodies (don’t cross the streams!) then look away now, there’s nothing for you here.
If, however, you’re the sort of person who’s gasping for end-of-year cheer like it’s the last bottle of Evian in a hot, empty desert, then step this way. We’ve collected up all the festive TV specials airing in the UK over Christmas 2020, so you can start mentally circling the ones in your personal schedule.
It being early, there are still announcements to be made, so check back here for updates. Ditto for official air dates and times, which are thin on the ground until the channels lock in their schedules. We’ll pop back and add those in as they’re confirmed.

British Comedian Bobby Ball Dies
Bobby Ball, the British comedian and star of shows including BBC One’s Not Going Out, has died at the age of 76 after testing positive for coronavirus. He was one half of double-act Cannon and Ball alongside Tommy Cannon, while he has appeared in comedies including Last of the Summer Wine and Benidorm. He was also a contestant on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! in 2005. “At first it was thought to be a chest infection but a test proved positive for Covid-19,” his manager said in a statement. “His wife Yvonne said the hospital and staff could not have been more wonderful, as they were outstanding in their care of duty and they did everything possible for him and she cannot praise them enough.” Cannon paid tribute by quoting his partner’s catchphrase: “Rock on, my good friend, I can’t believe this,...

Last night, Nintendo fully revealed the Switch console and announced a handful of games. While the presentation focused on only a few titles, Ubisoft, Namco, and 2K have announced some games they have coming to the system.
The announcements here (which I'm posting from their individual press releases) shouldn't be too surprising, considering we saw a couple quick glimpses of them during a sizzle reel last night, but they're exciting nonetheless. Mostly, I'm just glad to see some more third party support for the new Nintendo console, because I love the idea of the Switch and want as many games as possible to come for it. Here are some of the initial ones announced:
2K today announced that the highest rated* annual sports title of this console generation will be coming to the Nintendo Switch™ with its latest entry to the series, NBA 2K18. Launching this fall, NBA 2K18 will...

The guys of the Backstreet Boys have come a long way since their oversize suits and matching Matrix-esque looks, but they're still as close as ever. On Saturday, Kevin Richardson and Aj McLean made dreams come true when they reunited at the La premiere of Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. Kevin brought along his 9-year-old son, Mason, and they all gathered on the red carpet for pictures. In addition to snapping photos, Aj shared a few shots from the event on Instagram, including one of him posing with Darth Vader, writing, "What up Vader? How's your mom???" While the Backstreet Boys have been busy performing at a series of Jingle Ball concerts throughout the past couple of weeks, they're also gearing up for their Las Vegas residency, which kicks off on March 1, 2017 at The Axis at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino. The royal family is feeling the Halloween spirit!
While Prince William and Princess Kate delighted in some royally amazing masks on Friday, Princess Beatrice went full feline for Unicef’s annual Halloween Ball on Thursday night.
The “Malice in Wonderland”-themed party featured a lot of whimsical costumes, but the royal’s look raised a few eyebrows.
Beatrice sported a regal black velvet top and leather skirt, which she accessorized with a dramatic cat eye mask. To add even more mystery to her festive costume, she topped it off with a platinum blonde wig.

The award for this week's most creative tiara goes to . . . Denmark's Crown Princess Mary! The royal mom, 44, attended her mother-in-law Queen Margrethe's Arts and Culture Ball on Tuesday in what appeared to be a new topper - but was actually a repurposed rewear. The glittering piece is an unusual piece of jewelry known in Danish as a harpynten. Although the Crown Princess was showing it off as a diadem for the first time, she has worn the piece previously as a necklace - as she did at the celebration of Queen Margrethe's 75th birthday last spring, according to the Danish newspaper Billedbladet.

Strictly Come Dancing had another classic Halloween episode this weekend, but of course it was scarier for some of the celebrities than others. But who looks like they might be out of the running and who is creeping closer to that Glitter Ball trophy?
Out of the running: Kirsty Gallacher
Well, this seems particularly cruel. Kirsty had finally started to turn things around last week and was creeping up our rankings… but then her Halloween Charleston went horribly wrong with slips and mistakes and she picked up her lowest score of the series before becoming the first woman to be booted out (she joins the series' other eliminees Iwan Thomas, Anthony Ogogo, Daniel O'Donnell and Ainsley Harriott). Bad luck, Kirsty.
10. Jamelia (⬇3)
It doesn't seem quite fair to have Jamelia at the bottom of the rankings. She's far from the worst dancer in the competition and she's been improving, too, but...

Mount Pleasant has quietly gone about its business since launching on Sky1 in 2011, and it returns on the channel for a fifth series tonight (September 11) after three years on Sky Living.
Neil Fitzmaurice - perhaps best known for the dastardly Jeff in Peep Show and his Phoenix Nights work with Peter Kay - is also back as office manager Fergus, and he told Digital Spy that he is impressed by its continued popularity.
"Like anything on TV, it's a business, and if you put a show on and it does okay and sort of trundles along, maybe you'll get two series out of it," he said. "The special thing about Mount Pleasant is that it just steadily got bigger and bigger every year. That's not something that happens all the time.

Strictly Come Dancing hopeful Daniel O'Donnell has admitted that he doesn't think his huge fanbase will be enough to get him to the Glitter Ball trophy.
The 53-year-old explained that at some point the quality of his dancing will become more important than his big group of devotees.

"I hope they'll keep me a while," he said. "But I think the dancing wins out in the end. Even though you've had people that have been fun and people that we like for their personalities, I think as the weeks go on the standard of the dancing of the celebrities raises so much."
It certainly seems like O'Donnell will need his fans' support at first as he admitted that he's been struggling to pick up the steps.

Strictly Come Dancing host Tess Daly has revealed that she tries to ignore criticism of her performance style.
Daly - who fronts the BBC hit show with Claudia Winkleman - told The Mirror that she often receives compliments from members of the public.

"I tend not to read that stuff and just do the job I love and have been doing for ten years."
Daly added: "When I go out on the street and I meet people they tell me how much they enjoy the show and, 'You and Claudia do a fantastic job together'. I get wonderful feedback face to face every day. I am a positive person so you tend to focus on the positives.

Before Claudia Winkleman took the reins of Strictly Come Dancing this year, we weren't her biggest fan.
Basically, we thought she was a bit annoying. And scatty. And too in your face.
And that was all before she was being hailed as the replacement for Sir Bruce Forsyth (the man for whom the phrase 'national institution' was created) on one of the best-loved shows on TV.
So expectations were as high as the Blackpool Tower when the BBC's most successful entertainment programme returned this autumn.
But we've had a whole bottle of fake tan poured on our scepticism and a tub of glitter thrown in our face. Aside from Jake Wood's hips, Claudia has become the highlight of Strictly.
For a show in its tenth year, this series has a fresh, exciting feel that can only really be down to her. Whereas the faces on The X Factor revolve on an almost annual basis,...

Zoe Ball had to apologise to viewers of Strictly Come Dancing last night (November 15) after judge Len Goodman appeared to swear live on air.
The incident occurred when Goodman was delivering his comments to Simon Webbe and his partner Kristina Rihanoff, who scored 38 points for their Argentine tango.

Scott Mills has said that Zoe Ball was "terrified" about hosting Strictly Come Dancing.
Ball has stepped in to front the Saturday and Sunday shows with Tess Daly, after co-presenter Claudia Winkleman's daughter was involved in an accident.
Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy at the premiere of The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1, Mills said: "It's awful about Claudia, because I think she is the best thing to happen to Strictly.
"However, Zoe Ball is a mate of mine and she was really nervous, you know? The first one she did - even though she worked on [BBC Two's It Takes Two].
"Doing the BBC One show is a big deal. It was Halloween, her first one, and she was terrified. But she is so natural and so lovely and just herself on television. And even if she's scared, she makes it look effortless. I've admired her for years and years and she's just doing amazingly.

After 13 series, there have now been more than enough I'm a Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! winners to fill up their own all-star series.
They all had to endure creepy crawlies, tough Bushtucker Trials and mockery by Ant & Dec, but they all won the hearts of the nation for a couple of weeks.
Some of them may have fallen from grace since, while some have soared up the UK fame ranks. But who were the best champions from their respective series? Here's our just-for-fun, don't-take-it-too-seriously Top 13.
13. Carol Thatcher - Series 5 (2005)
Potentially the most surprising winner of the lot, no-one could have guessed that Margaret Thatcher's daughter would have been voted the nation's favourite.
Viewers were won over by how involved she was in the tasks, her no-nonsense attitude, and the fact that she was only up against Sid Owen and Cannon & Ball.
12. Matt Willis - Series 6 (2006)

Zoe Ball is to co-present Strictly Come Dancing again this weekend, it has been confirmed.
It will be the third week in which the It Takes Two host fronts the Saturday and Sunday programmes on November 15 and 16, after Claudia Winkleman's daughter was involved in a Halloween-related accident.
The BBC confirmed the news to Digital Spy, revealing that Winkleman would not be heading to the Tower Ballroom for Strictly's Blackpool special, and that Ball would be co-presenting with Tess Daly once again.
Ball has been well-received on the show, with many viewers praising her presenting style.
Meanwhile, the Winkleman family issued a statement last week in which they thanked "NHS doctors, nurses and staff" for looking after 8-year-old Matilda.
"She is having the best care possible and we are hopeful of a full recovery," they added.

The show's co-host was replaced by Zoe Ball for the weekend's Halloween editions of Strictly (Saturday, November 1 and Sunday, November 2). At the time, it was simply stated that she was looking after her unwell child.
A family statement today (November 4) said: "Our daughter was involved in an accident on Friday night while celebrating Halloween. She is having the best care possible and we are hopeful of a full recovery.
"We would like to thank everyone that has been so supportive and particularly the NHS doctors, nurses and staff who have been absolutely incredible.

Strictly Come Dancing judge Craig Revel Horwood has said that Claudia Winkleman is doing a "great job" on the show.
Winkleman joined co-presenter Tess Daly in hosting the BBC1 show after Sir Bruce Forsyth announced his departure earlier this year.
"I think Claudia is doing great. Really, she's bringing Tess to life in that way," Horwood told Digital Spy and others at the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home's Collars & Coats Gala Ball.
"They have a really girlfriend type relationship which I think is really good," he continued.
"And it's a lot more relaxed, and it's wonderful seeing Tess being a little bit more herself rather than just playing to the centre, and I think Claudia has most definitely brought that out of her and loosened her up somewhat.
"Claudia's growing on me," the 49-year-old added. "And I think it's wonderful that the BBC have finally given two women the chance to...

Craig Revel Horwood replied "James who?" when asked about former Strictly Come Dancing professional James Jordan.
The dancer, who was dropped from the latest series of the BBC celebrity dance show, had previously branded this series the "worst Strictly ever".
Asked about Jordan by Digital Spy and others at the Battersea Dogs & Cats Home's Collars & Coats Gala Ball, Horwood replied: "James who?" before adding: "That's of course his opinion and he's entitled to it. So let him spout."
On his mellowing working relationship with Brendan Cole, Horwood said that the dancer has "calmed down" now that he has become a father.
"He's not as mouthy," Horwood noted. "So I think that does help. You can't always keep playing the big 'I Am' on the show."
The 49-year-old judge also said that he "loved" Pixie Lott, Frankie Bridge and Caroline Flack, while he hoped that either Scott Mills or Judy Murray would leave this weekend.
