We’re proud to announce the debut of our new official podcast, The Film Stage Show. Delivered weekly, our discussion will begin by dissecting a topic tied to recent film news or a current trend. We’ll then go into a feature review followed by a look ahead in home releases and theatrical offerings. The Film Stage’s associate editor Nick Newman and staff writer Danny King will join me each week with plans for guests to stop by in future episodes.
Kicking things off for our first episode we discuss the newfangled marketing trend of teasers for trailer, with Rian Johnson‘s Looper prompting the talk. Then we jump into a feature review of Drew Goddard and Joss Whedon‘s twisty tale of horror and comedy, The Cabin in the Woods. To end we dive into some home video picks, including Steve McQueen‘s Shame and Brad Bird‘s Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol.

One only gets a sole opportunity to make their initial mark and it is a thoroughly remarkable experience to witness a star in the making. This year we’ve seen a number of break-out performances worthy of recognition and have rounded up our favorites. They range from an experienced thespian finding new life in front of the camera, a previous non-actor learning the ropes and an actress who overwhelms with a sheer breadth of projects. As part of our 2011 year-end features, check out the rundown below and let us know your favorites.

A brave and powerful oedipal drama set on a Quebec dairy farm, Wetlands and Gabriel Maille’s brilliant performance as Simon, a disturbed isolated teen, was a highlight of Tiff 2011. Hollywoodnews.com: The press screening for Simon Curtis’s “My Week With Marilyn” was held Sunday morning in Manhattan ahead of the film’s Centerpiece screening at the New York Film Festival, and reactions were largely favorable.
Oscar nominee Michelle Williams, who will be honored at the 15th Annual Hollywood Film Awards at the end of the month, lights up the screen as icon Marilyn Monroe, who falls into a whirlwind romance with a young suitor (Eddie Redmayne) while filming “The Prince and the Showgirl” alongside Sir Laurence Olivier (Kenneth Branagh).
“My Week with Marilyn was terrific… like The Artist, it’s a movielovers’ movie for sure. Great performances all around!” Tweeted Ed Douglas of ComingSoon.net.
Nyu student Danny King agreed, calling it, “Lovely old-fashioned entertainment. Pre-hyped Oscar talk for Williams and Branagh fully justified. Both wonderful.”

Now this is the way we love to end a Friday. Fans of Boris Karloff and classic horror television shows have long sought after the series "Thriller". It was available on VHS way back when and of course almost every bootlegger has peddled a copy online at one point or another, but now thanks to Image Entertainment the wait and the search are officially over!
