HBO will premiere “Revolution Rent,” the 2019 documentary following Andy Señor Jr.’s journey to stage a production of “Rent” in Cuba, on June 15.
Señor Jr., who directed the documentary alongside Victor Patrick Alvarez, started his career with “Rent.” In the late 1990s he starred as Angel Dumott Schunard in Jonathan Larson’s Tony and Pulitzer Prize-winning Broadway musical about a group of starving artists in the East Village who are dealing with big dreams, drug addiction and the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Now, things are coming full circle 25 years after the show made its Broadway debut. In the documentary, Señor Jr. takes the show from auditions through closing night, highlighting both the “setbacks and accomplishments” of being Cuba’s first Broadway musical produced by an American company in more than 50 years. Señor Jr.’s story is also a personal one, as he explores his Cuban heritage and family’s relationship to the country within this project.

Winning an Oscar on your first nomination is a fairly common occurrence. Just last year rookie nominee Christian Bale won Supporting Actor for "The Fighter" while freshman contender Tom Hooper claimed Best Director for helming "The King's Speech." However, keeping that perfect record intact has proven difficult for most nominees. Sound engineer Mark Berger holds the Oscars record with four wins and no losses. Among those who went three for three are costumer Mark Acheson, art director/costumer Cecil Beaton, documentarian Jacques Cousteau, composers Giorgio Moroder and producer Saul Zaentz (above). Composer Howard Shore is also a three-peater and he contends this year for his "Hugo" score. Four women won both their Best Actress bids. The first of these was Luise Rainer who won back-to-back Oscars in 1936 ("The Great Ziegfeld") and 1937 ("The Good Earth") To find out who the oth...

Serious Film's Michael C. here to shine a light on an overlooked story from the Oscar nominations.
With all the attention paid to Tangled focusing on its somewhat surprising exclusion from the Best Animated Film lineup I think most people missed the more interesting story. If Alan Menken wins the Oscar for best song for Tangled’s "I See the Light" - and he has as good a chance as any of winning - he will have won an incredible ninth Oscar. Already the most awarded living person a ninth trophy would surpass famed costume designer Edith Head tying him with composer Alfred Newman (All About Eve) for the most awarded individual Oscar winner in history.
**Trivia Alert**
This record is debatable since ahead of Menken would technically still be behind art director Cedric Gibbons with 11 wins for such films as An American in Paris and The Bad and the Beautiful...
