It could be an entertaining spectacle, if you ignored the crumbling institutions it was built upon and the creeping fear in the air — but enough about life in 21st century America. The Grammys have their own problems, with the show going on in the face of a roiling crisis at its governing body, the Recording Academy, after recently dismissed CEO Deborah Dugan dropped a long list of grave allegations against it, including rampant gender bias and corruption around the awards process. (The Academy denies it all.)

[[tmz:video id="0_i38c2qpa"]] Treach wants to make it clear ... Bushwick Bill falling off stage was Not his fault, technically speaking. The Naughty by Nature rapper tells TMZ ... there's a simple explanation for why he knocked Bushwick off stage during a Houston concert last week -- a faulty speaker. No ... really. Treach says hear him out and then look closely. The push was totally a mistake! [[tmz:video id="0_dl3w4aw4"]] Treach also shows us the gnarly gash he suffered on his shin as a result of the fall.

[[tmz:video id="0_dl3w4aw4"]] Apparently Treach has some questions about whether the Geto Boys' Bushwick Bill is down with O.P.P. ... so he pushed him off the edge of the stage they were sharing. We're kidding about the reason, but Treach and Bill did take a tumble during Naughty by Nature's set of their "I Love the 90s" stop in Houston. Bill was rapping his verse to "My Mind Playing Tricks on Me," and Treach decided to join him,...

Over at my other haunt, Sergio Leone and the Infield Fly Rule, there is currently posted, in honor of Halloween week, what I think are two very special treats (and possibly tricks). The first is a very challenging frame grab quiz in which readers are asked to guess the titles of 31 movies based on eerie images that may or may not be so easy to identify. The other is a special edition of the traditional interview-type quiz I occasionally come up devoted entirely to the harrowing world of horror. It features the usual batch of questions for which there are no wrong answers, only your answers, which makes it much more fun to fill out and especially to read. As usual, it’s taking me a while to get around to submitting my own answers to the quiz, but in the creeping shadow of the approaching holiday I thought I...

Houston rap legends Geto Boys (currently Scarface, Willie D, and Bushwick Bill) haven't made an album together in ten years. Since 2005's The Foundation, all three rappers have gone their separate ways — with one-off reunions and even a tour in between — but now the trio are finally ready to release new music together, with an album called Habeas Corpus. And like many acts from their era (most recently, TLC and De La Soul), they've turned to Kickstarter in lieu of a record label to protect their creative control. "We're gonna go the fuck off on the new album. If it scared David Geffen back in 1990, it's gonna ruffle a few feathers in 2015," Willie D tells Rolling Stone, referencing the group's famously political and graphic songs. The album, for which they're asking $100,000 to be raised by July 15, will be produced by longtime collaborator Mike Dean,...

Today I'm going to hit rewind and take you readers back to the mid 90's with a glimpse at the legendary Bushwick Bill album Phantom Of The Rapra. Phantom - which marked Bushwick's second solo venture - is packed with dark melodies and enough animosity to spark a riot. But the goodness doesn't end there. Bushwick taps into his Chuckie persona more than once, delivering grim lyricism in the form of some of the albums best tracks.
After a brief intro, Bill launches into 'What Cha Gonna Do', which combines an open admission of suicidal tendencies, a willingness to murder and oddly enough, a little social commentary as well. 'Who's The Biggest' allows Bill the chance to remind us that "throats get cut, chests get wet" and 'The Bushwicken' sees the Little Big Man arrive "Straight outta nightmares.". The albums true treasure however, is clearly 'Already Dead'. It's...

Let the Cure, Korn and Nine Inch Nails give you nightmares this holiday, in Bigger Than the Sound.

If you're like me, you'll probably be spending Halloween hiding in your closet from pagans (seriously, have you ever seen the Nic Cage version of "The Wicker Man"?!?) and the day after Halloween cleaning up the eggs those pagans decided to throw at your house.
Even without the egg-tossing polytheists, Halloween is totally terrifying. The apples stuffed with razorblades, the candy corn, the sexy Ghostbusters — it's like every childhood trauma rolled into one miserable, macabre holiday. And while, in previous years, I'd spend the night quaking in my Snuggie, this Halloween is gonna be different. Rather than hide from my fears, I've decided to embrace them (my mom says it's Ok).
So to thoroughly up the spooky, I've created a list...

How long horror has lived within the rap industry is an interesting debate that, after hours of research - I’m still not certain I can answer with 100% confidence. I can say that the early 90’s saw a sudden explosion in graphically violent content and particularly sadistic lyricism. Performers like Esham, Brotha Lynch Hung, X-Raided and The Insane Clown Posse put their balls on the line, stepped out of the industry manufactured box and released a torrent of musical savagery that sent rap detractors through the roof. The maneuver also sent a wave of inspiration throughout the rap genre that lives on today. I can also say that before even these pioneers took to the path of darkness, there were others…
