1992's "X-Men" cartoon was the first time Marvel's Merry Mutants got a series all of their own, but was it the first time they appeared in animation? Not quite.
The team were guest stars on the early 1980s series "Spider-Man and His Amazing Friends", as was their nemesis Magneto. A few years down the line, Marvel Productions decided to produce an "X-Men" cartoon themselves.
The resulting pilot was "Pryde of the X-Men". "Pryde" boasted animation from Japanese studio Toei ("Dragon Ball Z"), and so looked noticeably more detailed and dynamic than previous Marvel cartoons. Where it did overlap with those older cartoons was the voice cast: the late John Stephenson as Professor X, Michael Bell as Cyclops, Neil Ross as Nightcrawler, Dan Gilvezan as Colossus, and a young Kath Soucie as Kitty.
Patrick Pinney, as Wolverine, infamously gives his character an Australian accent (apparently a synergistic holdover from a...

Say what you want about celebrity worship, but actors loom large in the popular imagination. Millions of people around the world suspend their disbelief to follow a story and invest in its characters, and some of this investment may go toward the actors themselves. Many of us like, respect, or find some common ground with specific performers. Our connections with them vary — background, talent, personality — but a consistent one is generation. So it is lamentable when we hear of an actor aging or even dying. Why? Because it means another part of our culture and zeitgeist is fading away.
We're just over halfway through 2023, and while we haven't seen a repeat of 2016 with its flurry of celebrity deaths, numerous actors from the screen and stage are passing on. Here are the actors who have died in 2023, so far.

We have a special episode of The Arrow in the Head Show for you today, one in which hosts John “The Arrow” Fallon and Lance Vlcek take a look at a particularly awesome scene from director James Cameron’s 1984 classic The Terminator (watch it Here). The scene they’re discussing is the Tech Noir club scene – and to find out what they had to say about it, check out the video embedded above!
The screenplay for The Terminator is credited to Cameron and producer Gale Anne Hurd, although Cameron has said that, while Hurd did suggest edits to the script, she didn’t actually do any writing on the film. The film has the following synopsis: Disguised as a human, a cyborg assassin known as a Terminator travels from 2029 to 1984 to kill Sarah Connor. Sent to protect Sarah is Kyle Reese, who divulges the coming of Skynet, an artificial intelligence...

To find out all about it, check out the video embedded above.
Scripted by Stuart Gordon, Dennis Paoli, and Charles Finch, The Dentist has the following synopsis: Dr. Alan Feinstone is a rich and successful Beverly Hills dentist. There’s only one problem, he’s insane. Dr. Feistone loves perfection, and he expects it of everyone. Unfortunately, no one is perfect. This unacceptable fact annoys the good doctor and leads him to commit his one small imperfection: murder.
The film stars Corbin Bernsen, Linda Hoffman, Michael Stadvec, Ken Foree, Tony Noakes, Molly Hagan, Patty Toy, Jan Hoag, Virginya Keehne, Earl Boen, Christa Sauls, Mark Ruffalo, Lise Simms,...

There’s something inherently unsettling about teeth, and the addition of someone prodding at them with sharp instruments is especially invasive. On the other side of that coin, the negative association with dentistry can impact the professionals. Cult filmmaker Brian Yuzna tapped into these fundamental fears with his 1996 direct-to-video film, The Dentist, and its 1998 sequel, The Dentist 2.
In fact, Yuzna knew he could sell the movie based on the title alone, so he solicited writers to pitch him on the concept. It was his old pals Stuart Gordon and Dennis Paoli — for whom Yuzna had produced Re-Animator and From Beyond — that cracked the script. Charles Finch (who went on to executive produce David Cronenberg’s Spider) was later brought in to punch it up.
Continuing the underlying social commentary Yuzna explored with Society, the film centers on hot-headed dentist Alan Feinstone. After catching his wife (Linda Hoffman) going down...

Adam Rich, best known as the moppet-haired youngest son in the ABC family comedy of the late ‘70s “Eight Is Enough,” has died, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner. He was 54.
Although a family member confirmed to TMZ that the actor was found dead in his home in Los Angeles Saturday, no cause of death has been revealed yet. Law enforcement, however, says there was no apparent foul play.
Rich was born in the San Fernando Valley just north of Los Angeles. He made his acting debut on “The Six Million Dollar Man” in 1976 when he was 8 years old but rose to fame just a year later in the popular family comedy “Eight Is Enough,” which ran on ABC for five seasons.

Earl Boen, the busy character actor best known for his stint as the criminal psychologist Peter Silberman in the Terminator film franchise, died Thursday in Hawaii, his daughter told The Hollywood Reporter. He was 81.
Ruby Harbin said her dad was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer in November and died quietly in his sleep.
Born on Aug. 8, 1941, Boen amassed dozens of credits during his career. In 1984, he landed his most notable role as Dr. Silberman in James Cameron’s The Terminator, starring Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton and Michael Biehn. He reprised the role in Terminator 2: Judgment Day (1991) and Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines (2003).
One memorable scene in the first Terminator saw the character interrogate Biehn’s Kyle Reese, a freedom fighter from the future that the psychologist believed suffered from paranoid delusions. Nearly 40 years later, Biehn recalled fondly his time working with Boen on the scene.

One of the most underrated masterstrokes of James Cameron's "The Terminator," and this is a film stuffed with masterstrokes, was his decision to have Dr. Peter Silberman exit that Los Angeles police station prior to the title cyborg's murderous rampage. It's not that we wanted the high-handed criminal psychologist -- who wrongfully shrugs off Kyle Reese's (Michael Biehn) claim that he was sent back in time from a post-apocalyptic future to protect Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) from a robotic assassin -- to survive the carnage. We just didn't know at the time that he would wind up being one of the series' most delectably despicable characters.

Earl Boen, best known for portraying a disbelieving psychologist in James Cameron’s first two “Terminator” films, has died at 81, according to multiple media reports.
Boen, a New York native, passed away Thursday in Hawaii. A cause of death has not been reported, but a friend of the actor told Variety that he was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer in late 2022.
A longtime performer with nearly 300 film, television and video game credits, Boen is best known for playing Dr. Peter Silberman in James Cameron’s first “Terminator” movie. The cynical Dr. Boen had little time for Kyle Reese’s (Michael Biehn) grim warnings about a nuclear holocaust and resulting human-vs.-robot future war.

The Terminator franchise became so obsessed with rebooting itself over and over again until it stumbled on a movie successful enough to launch a new trilogy that Jonathan Mostow’s Rise of the Machines has arguably become the most overlooked entry in the entire series. It obviously can’t hold a candle to James Cameron’s classic originals, but as a straightforward blockbuster action movie, it ticks all the right boxes.
It also makes some bold storytelling choices, from confirming that Sarah Connor died offscreen to a third act that pulled the rug from underneath audiences and revealed in an incredibly downbeat ending that Judgment Day was indeed inevitable. The studio had wanted to continue the series for a while, but James Cameron had absolutely no interest in doing so and Arnold Schwarzenegger refused to return unless the filmmaker was involved. Still looking sharp 26 years since its premiere, James Cameron’s picture completely masters the mass audience thriller while pushing the effects envelope far beyond the industry’s horizon. Technically slick, conceptually brutal, Cameron’s style is what still prevails in action-based Sci-Fi. All this, and Ah-nold too.

The plot, in case you somehow needed reminding, picks up ten years after the events of 1984′s The Terminator, with Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton) locked up in an asylum, muttering about an imminent apocalypse, and future resistance leader John Connor (Edward Furlong) still just a snarky ten...

"The images feel more real in 3D. There's a lucidity to it, you really feel like you're there." Distrib Films Us has debuted a second official trailer for the forthcoming re-release of James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 3D. The 3D upgrade was overseen by Cameron himself, as well as Dmg Entertainment and StudioCanal, so rest assured it will be top quality. This trailer is similar to the first trailer, but includes clips of Cameron talking about how great the 3D looks, and how cool it is to go back and revisit this movie in 3D some 25 years later. "It looks pretty spectacular." However, this trailer is only available in 2D. This sci-fi action classic stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, Earl Boen, and Joe Morton. I still don't know if I really want to see this in 3D or not. What about you? Here's...

"The survivors of the nuclear fire called the war Judgment Day." He's back! Distrib Films Us has unveiled a brand new trailer for the upcoming re-release of James Cameron's Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 3D. The 3D upgrade was overseen by Cameron as well as Dmg Entertainment and StudioCanal, so rest assured it will be top quality. This trailer packs in some of the best lines and the coolest moments, and I'm sure it looks much better in 3D, but it's only in 2D online for now. This sci-fi action classic stars Arnold Schwarzenegger, Linda Hamilton, Edward Furlong, Robert Patrick, Earl Boen, and Joe Morton. Fire it up below. Here's the new re-release trailer (+ poster) for Terminator 2: Judgment Day 3D, direct from YouTube: A cyborg, identical to the one...

I’m sure all of you remember the movie Terminator. And I’m sure you all remember the snotty, cocky sounding psychologist Dr. Peter Silberman. Silberman also appears Terminator 2 and 3. But the real question is “who plays Dr. Silberman?” That answer is none other than Earl Boen. I can all but guarantee you never knew that name until the moment you just read that sentence. So who is Earl Boen? Veteran character actor Earl Boen was born on November 7, 1945 in New York City. He is probably best known for his role as criminal psychologist Dr. Peter Silberman in

Terminator
Directed by James Cameron
Written by James Cameron and Gale Anne Hurd
1984, USA
In 1984, James Cameron released his sci-fi thriller The Terminator: the story of a killer cyborg sent from the future, and programmed to kill the mother of a future rebel chief. Arnold Schwarzenegger is the automated hit man roaming around present-day Los Angeles to eliminate Sarah Connor (Linda Hamilton). Her only hope is the guerrilla fighter Kyle Reese (Michael Biehn) who has followed the killer machine back through time in order to protect her. Terminator has long staked its claim as a classic for the ages (The Library of Congress even added it to its National Film Registry in 2008) and three decades later, Termiantor is still the best film James Cameron has directed, a resourceful low-budget thriller that recalls the canny exploitation work of George Miller and John Carpenter. While the film made a considerable profit for Orion Pictures,...

As James Cameron describes Genisys as the real third Terminator film, we wonder whether the Terminator 3 has been judged too harshly...
This summer’s Terminator Genisys has received what might be considered its first and most important stamp of approval - from James Cameron. In a promo clip for the sci-fi action sequel, directed by Thor 2 and Game Of Thrones’ Alan Taylor, Cameron said he felt that the franchise has been “reinvigorated” by Genisys.
Cameron then went so far as to say that, “In my mind, I think of [Genisys] as the third film.”
That’s praise indeed from a filmmaker who’s rarely diplomatic when expressing his opinion. Twelve years ago, the BBC asked Cameron what he thought of Alien 3 - David Fincher’s sequel which, of course, followed on directly from Cameron’s 1986 classic, Aliens. “Hated it,” Cameron said. “Simple as that. I hated what they did. I...

As James Cameron's The Terminator turns 30, Ryan looks at how its horror overtones made it a classic...
Feature
Things were not going well for James Cameron in the spring of 1982. He was just five days into what is supposed to be his debut as a director, the low-budget horror sequel Piranha II: The Spawning, and the project had gone sour.
Producer Ovidio Assonitis had no intention of letting Cameron make the film his own way (Assonitis had a track record of firing directors and taking over projects himself), and before long the director found himself stuck in Rome, jobless, and struck down with a fever. It was then that Cameron had the nightmare which would change the course of his career.
He dreamt of a horrifying metal being, clawing its way towards out of a sheet of fire, clutching a pair of kitchen knives. It was the seed that...

Frightmare! The premier horror convention in the Southwest has come again, and it was a riot. Well, not literally. Thankfully, massive improvements were made this year with line management of the more popular guests and parking so even when things were hot and heavy on Saturday, we never reached the critical mass found last year.
The movie and television guests were a literal who's who of icons throughout the years. The three guests of honor, Linda Blair, George A Romero, and Tobin Bell, were all busy with fans at their tables all weekend. I heard that Bell went till 1am signing on Saturday to make sure everyone was taken card of.
Having tables set up near empty walls for attendees to line up against and usage of tickets when lines got too long were big improvements. With the three guests of honor and other fan favorites such as Scott Wilson...

2.2 Where Silence Has Lease
The Enterprise is in the Morgana Quadrant doing some charting (ah, charting. The stuff explorers dream of) when they encounter a weird spacehole. It's like a hole in space. Clearly, this is the first interesting thing they've found in weeks because they fly towards it and start shooting probes into it. Unfortunately, said probes just disappear without trace. Naturally, this intrigues Picard so he inches the ship ever-closer to it.
Suddenly it engulfs the Enterprise! Oh no! Wait, we all pretty much expected that to happen, right?
Inside the spacehole, the crew performs various scans and recover no interesting information. At one point Dr. Pulaski turns up and starts having a go at Data for being unable...

In most movies, there is the powerful face off between the good and the bad, the heroes and the villains, yet sometimes you get people who are just in the middle, not necessarily villains but just complete and utter douchebags. You know those people you just can’t stand; the people who crawl under your skin and make you want to put your fist through the television – yeah, well, them.
During our top ten I am going to be either reminding you or introducing you to some of the biggest douchebags in the history of the movies.
10. Dr. Silberman (Terminator 2: Judgement Day)
Dr. Silberman (Earl Boen) was the doctor who treated Sarah Connor in the mental hospital in Terminator 2. Now, I must admit I was a little hesitant about adding Dr. Silberman to this top ten as, let’s be honest, the guy is just doing his job.
