North American distributor Ram Releasing will put Bobby Boerman's App on DVD store shelves, this December 30th. The film received mild praise here, on 28Dla (An App Movie Review). As events unfold on the screen, watchers can view text messages and alternate angles during the film, on their own phone. Other extras include: Director Bobby Boerman's commentary, a Special Effects bonus featurette and the Original App theatrical trailer. Fans of film can find all of the home entertainment release details for the film below. Release Date: December 30th, 2014 (DVD). Director: Bobby Boermans. Writer: Robert Arthur Jansen. Cast: Hannah Hoekstra, Isis Cabolet, Robert de Hoog and Alex Hendrickx.

If you’re able to look past the innate silliness of a killer phone app, you might have a decent time with App, a surprisingly bearable thriller that, in a minimal but intriguing advancement in transmedia storytelling, actually asks viewers to get out their phones and download a tie-in app that supplements the story as it moves along.
Unfortunately, beyond that gimmick, there’s not much to the premise of App. The Danish film, directed by Bobby Boermans and scripted by Robert Arthur Jansen, follows a college student named Anna (Hannah Hoekstra) who, after a night of hard partying with her best friend Sophie (Isis Cabolet), awakens to find that a strange personal assistant app called Iris has been installed on her phone. Acting like a pushier version of the iPhone’s Siri techology, Iris begins integrating itself into Hannah’s life – and she’s happy to let it, so...

She’s never far from her cellphone, and after a night of partying in the dorms, Anna wakes up groggy and hungover only to find that a new app has been inexplicably added to it. Initially helpful and clever, Iris soon begins behaving mysteriously, answering personal questions it shouldn’t know the answers to, and sending inappropriate images to her contacts. *full disclosure: a DVD screener of this film was provided by Ram Releasing. Director: Bobby Boermans. Writer: Robert Arthur Jansen. Cast: Hannah Hoekstra, Isis Cabolet, Robert de Hoog and Alex Hendrickx. App is a Dutch language film that was just released in North America. The film is a smallish horror feature, which focuses on a malicious cell' phone app'. One protagonist's life goes into a downward spiral as technology rears its ugly head, everywhere. This feature asks an interesting question; how far has technology infiltrated modern life? But, the film is really more focused on delivering a standard horror feature. In the end, App is an above average feature, which blends genres and most horror fans will find something entertaining here. The story can be seen in the film's trailer. Essentially, Anna (Hanna Hoekstra) is a failing college student, who likes to party. At one of her celebrations, a mysterious...

The role of a second screen in the viewing process media emerged organically as home viewers naturally turned to their personal devices while watching television, so it was only a matter of time before the people behind that entertainment took advantage of it. Second screen experiences pegged to television have been growing more sophisticated in recent years, but the Dutch genre movie "App" — which opened in its native country last year, but makes its way to U.S. theaters and VOD next Friday—marks the first occasion of a feature-length film designed to incorporate a second screen, which automatically makes it a technological curiosity. While not fully realizing its potential, however, this rare occasion in which audiences are encouraged to use their devices during the movie is a surprisingly decent stab at something new. Still, the gimmick behind "App," directed by Bobby Boermans from Robert Arthur Jansen’s script, involves...

We support the EFPs good work and we love European cinema. This is a great opportunity upcoming in NYC.
The diverse line-up includes Italy's Miele by Valeria Golino, recently screened in Un Certain Regard at the Cannes International Film Festival, which delves into the complicated issues of euthanasia in an intense family drama. German actor/director Til Schweiger's Guardians is an action thriller about a young orphaned girl who must be protected in the dangerous world of state secrets and murder. In the multi-media thriller, App, Dutch director Bobby Boermans draws the viewers into a mysterious world and enhances the movie-going experience with additional footage available on your cell phone during the screening. Isabel Coixet painfully reunites two former lovers in her latest drama Yesterday Never Ends, and Virgina Gilbert reflects on life as a beautiful messy struggle in A Long Way from Home. Rounding things out, the French-Belgium co-production, IØm a Standard Supporter, portrays a football addict facing his limits. From a multimedia techno-thriller to arthouse dramas and actors' driven love stories, the line-up of six films at the Industry Screenings in New York, presented by European Film Promotion (Efp), demonstrates a broad spectrum of what European cinema currently has on offer. On June 25th and 26th the six selected films will exclusively be screened to Us buyers and industry professionals at the screening room of the Tribeca Grand Hotel in New York City. All films are seeking Us distribution, and the sales representatives will be in attendance. The NY Industry Screenings are part of EFPØs Films Sales Support (Fss) scheme, backed by the Media Programme of the European Union.

The second trailer for the innovative smartphone-driven Dutch horror flick App has arrived, and even though there are no English subtitles, you can rest assured that screaming is understandable in any language! Check it out!
This new terror flick will be the first film in the world to synchronize a parallel storyline via app content to be accessed while in the movie theater.
While the sight of glowing smartphone screens is often infuriating and distracting, it will be reappropriated as a necessary component of the App moviegoing experience, as codes and cryptic texts that the film's heroine receives will also appear on audience members' small screens throughout the theater.
Music video director Bobby Boermans is directing the film from a script by Robert A. Jansen. Whether or not Boermans will be the sole "director" of the second-screen application to accompany the film is unclear. The director and Jansen collaborated last year for the thriller Claustrofobia.

★★★★☆ Seldom do films instil such genuine unease in the viewer as Claustrofobia (2011), a new horror thriller from the Netherlands. The debut outing from Dutch director Bobby Boermans is a tale of twisted vengeance which will make you think twice before having a keypad entry system fitted in your house. Eva (Carolien Spoor) can't believe her luck when she moves into a trendy apartment for what seems a bargain monthly rent. Who cares that her new neighbours are a bit odd, or that she's struggling to achieve her goal of becoming an actress - her life has turned a corner, she can feel it. Unfortunately someone very nasty is waiting around that corner with a plan for revenge.

While theaters such as the Alamo Drafthouse are gaining both notoriety in some sectors and love in others by taking a hardline stance against the use of cellular phones in their theaters, Dutch director Bobby Boermans is going the opposite direction with his latest feature, App. For not only does the film revolve around a young woman and a mysterious app on her phone but it is also designed to interact directly with theater audiences through their phones as well, in the theater, as the movie is screening. In the thriller App, Anna (Hannah Hoekstra), a young student, gets caught up in her own virtual world.
