New York Women in Film & Television hosted its 44th annual Muse Awards on Wednesday afternoon in New York City. More than 700 guests gathered at Cipriani 42nd Street to celebrate the achievements of honorees Fran Drescher, Alex Borstein, Kyra Sedgwick, Tantoo Cardinal, Latasha Gillespie, Millicent Simmonds, Michèle Stephenson and Oscar-winner Raney Aronson-Rath.
SAG-AFTRA executive vice president, Linda Powell, accepted an award on behalf of Drescher, who wasn’t able to make it to the gala due to her father’s recent death.
Powell read directly from a statement written by the SAG-AFTRA president, who pointed out personal challenges she faced in 2023 during the historic Hollywood strikes. “I couldn’t escape the misogyny that plagued press coverage of the strike and our negotiations,” Drescher wrote. “It was disgusting, but I refused and will always refuse to conform to masculine expectations.

In March 2019, Disney completed their purchase of Fox, effectively enacting one of the largest studio mergers in Hollywood history. This came after Disney had already made a major purchase from Marvel Comics a decade earlier, as well as the buyout of Lucasfilm in 2012. As of this writing, Disney sits on top of what might be the largest film library in Hollywood. Disney has used their massive library to milk as much IP as possible, returning to old franchises that have been successful in the past. Family Guy, an iconic animated comedy, is moving its premiere from Sundays to Wednesdays after 18 years on the Sunday night block. This scheduling change raises concerns about the future of the show and whether it will face cancelation after 25 years. Although Family Guy's ratings have declined, and it may be past its prime, there is still uncertainty about its future as it is renewed for the 2024-25 season, and creator Seth MacFarlane is in demand elsewhere.
When one thinks of this century's iconic animated programs, Family Guy is typically one of the first that comes to mind. Since its debut 25 years ago, Seth MacFarlane's animated masterpiece has both entertained and polarized audiences of all ages for over 400 episodes. It's been a staple of Fox's Sunday night animation lineup for nearly two decades, though that will soon come to an end.

Family Guy celebrates its 25th anniversary. Creator Seth MacFarlane reflects on the passage of time and the immense amount of Fg content produced over the years. The goal of the show is to simply make people laugh, while also delving into social allegory and politics occasionally.
"Lucky there's a Family Guy..." Yes, Seth MacFarlane's hilarious and highly successful animated television series which follows the shenanigans of the Griffins turns 25 years old today. The very first episode of Family Guy, which is titled Death Has a Shadow, originally aired on January 31, 1999. MacFarlane can't believe 25 years have passed, and the show's creator said in an exclusive interview with The Wrap:
“As far as Family Guy is concerned, yeah, it’s still surviving and thriving. It’s strange that we’re coming up on 25 years because I’ve just been going kind of at a dead run ever since the show premiered. So,...

On Jan. 31, 1999, Fox introduced Peter Griffin and Co. to America as Seth MacFarlane’s animated Family Guy series premiered. The show, canceled after its third season, was then revived and is now a broadcast staple in its 22nd season. The Hollywood Reporter’s original review is below:
If one is good and two are better, then surely three, four and five can’t miss. Or so the thinking goes at Fox, home of The Simpsons, King of the Hill and three midseason primetime animated comedies. Indeed, the third show, The PJs, is off to a good start, and the fourth, Family Guy, shows similar promise. (The fifth, Futurama, is not due for a couple of months.)
Family Guy is bright, entertaining and often witty and warm. In its post-Super Bowl slot Sunday, the show will receive high exposure. Viewers who develop an appetite for it, though, have to wait until March for the next episode.

Seth Macfarlane’s animated series Family Guy, The Cleveland Show, and American Dad have become as culturally significant as The Simpsons. With edgy humor and non sequitur galore, MacFarlane segued to the big screen with the fantasy comedy Ted starring Mark Wahlberg about a man-child and his teddy bear who has come alive. Full of gross-out humor and equal amounts of heartfelt comedy, Ted was a smash hit and spawned a sequel. Since then, MacFarlane has made A Million Ways To Die In The West and the more serious science fiction series The Orville. Now, MacFarlane is returning to Ted with a Peacock prequel series that blends the sitcom format of his animated shows with that same blend of crass and feel-good comedy that has become his trademark.

‘Succession’ wins for Outstanding Drama Series at the 75Th Emmy Awards (Photo © 2024 Fox Media LLC)
In a normal year, the 2023 Emmy Awards would have actually taken place in 2023. But last year was anything but normal in Hollywood, and the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes caused the award ceremony’s postponement to January 15, 2024.
Fans of Succession, The Bear, and Beef had a lot to celebrate as Emmy voters threw most of the awards in their direction. Succession and The Bear tied with six wins each, and Beef wasn’t far behind with five.
Highlights included Christina Applegate’s surprise appearance on stage to a standing ovation, Carol Burnett presenting to Quinta Brunson (the first Black actress to win as Lead Actress in a Comedy since 1981), and Niecy Nash-Betts’ powerful acceptance speech for Dahmer. There were also cast reunions and Sir Elton John finally received the E portion of Egot for his Farewell From Dodger Stadium special.

Way back in (checks notes) July last year, we reported on the Emmy nominations, noting that the strikes could delay it. Welp, delay it they did, and the 2023 ceremony has just happened in Los Angeles on Monday night. The ceremony, hosted by actor and comedian Anthony Anderson, had little reference to the strikes, but did dig back into TV history given that it was the 75th ceremony. Recent history, though, was more on voters' minds as Beef, Succession and The Bear continued their small screen awards domination.
Succession and The Bear nabbed six trophies each across acting, directing and writing categories, while Beef took home five. Other winners included Jennifer Coolidge (for The White Lotus) and Dahmer — Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story's Niecy Nash-Betts.

The Emmys finally happened.
After a four-month delay due to the WGA and SAG strikes, the 2023 Primetime Emmys took place January 15 in Los Angeles. The big takeaway? There may just be way too much TV for Emmy voters to watch, so much like the noms suggested back in July 2023, winners during the ceremony were mainly confined to a few big hits.
Those hits were well-deserved, however: “Succession” closed out its final Emmys with six wins, including the big one for Outstanding Drama Series. “The Bear” made a huge impression out of the gate, notching an Outstanding Comedy Series win for its first season, as well as individual wins for Jeremy Allen White, Ebon Moss-Bachrach and Ayo Edebiri.
“Beef” likewise cleaned up. The buzzy Netflix project scored wins for Outstanding Limited Series as well as individual wins for Ali Wong, Steven Yeun, and creator Lee Sung Jin (also an IndieWire Honors recipient!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel star Alex Borstein has only seen three episodes of her hit Prime Video series — but that’s about to change.
The actress, who has been Emmy-nominated for her role of Susie Myerson every year since the series premiered, told The Hollywood Reporter that she only watched the show’s first two episodes and the last one.
Once the SAG Awards happen, and Maisel is officially over, she and her daughter plan to sit down and watch the series from start to finish. “She’s old enough now, and I’m further far enough away from it to not judge myself harshly,” says Borstein on the Emmys red carpet.
Now that Maisel has ended, the Emmy-winning actress shares there’s one thing she’s going to miss about playing Susie.
“I miss the ability to not edit and just say what you want to say and say...

Ayo Edebiri honored her parents onstage at the 2023 Emmy Awards on Sunday night, thanking them for their support as she accepted the trophy for best supporting actress in a comedy series. The award is her first win and nomination.
“I’m so incredibly grateful for this for so many reasons,” she told the crowd.
Edebiri received the Emmy for her performance as Sydney Adamu in FX’s The Bear. Though the show released its second season in June 2023, the win recognizes her performance in season one, released 2022. The Bear‘s second season rolled out just after the 2023 Emmys’ eligibility deadline.
“This show is about family, and found family and real family, and my parents are here tonight,” Edebiri continued. “I’m making them sit kind of far away from me because I’m a bad kid, but I love you guys so much. Thank you so much for loving me...
