- His father, Bernard Bosanquet (1877-1936), was a legendary cricketer who played for Middlesex and who is credited with inventing the "googly", a style of bowling that makes the ball exceptionally difficult for the batsman to hit. In Australia the delivery was known as the "Bosie", named after him.
