- He conducted the first performance of Gustav Holst's "The Planets", but omitted "Venus and Neptune" from the score. (The complete work was first performed by conductor Albert Coates). But the complete "Planets" became Boult's signature piece as a conductor, not Coates', and over the years Boult recorded it no fewer than five times. His third recording of it, for Westminster Records, was his first performance of the work in stereo. His EMI stereo recording of the work is now part of their series "Great Recordings of the Century".
- (May 29, 1973) He and Ashley Lawrence conducted the music the ballet, "Raymonda Act III," "Enigma Variations," and "Daphnis and Chloe," in a Royal Ballet production at the London Coliseum in London, England with Margot Fonteyn, Rudolf Nureyev, David Drew, Wayne Eagling, Derek Rencher, Svetlana Beriosova, Alexander Grant, Desmond Kelly, Anthony Dowell, Desmond Doyle, Doreen Wells, Wayne Sleep, Leslie Edwards, Deanne Bergsma, Jennifer Penney, and David Wall in the cast.
