Superman may be colloquially known as "The Big Blue Boy Scout," but sometimes, he can be straight up villainous. Sure, he's saved Metropolis (and the world) more times than any individual can count, however, that doesn't excuse his moments of cruelty and authoritarian-brand of justice.
The most interesting aspect of Superman as a character derives from his immortality on Earth. Short of using Kryptonite, our measly human-made weapons never account for much damage against the Man of Steel. The only thing stopping Clark Kent/Superman from taking over the world or causing serious harm is his sense of righteousness.
While Supes, for the most part, doesn't allow his ego or greed to corrupt him, he's certainly made some questionable decisions across his nearly-90 year history. As we prepare for the cinematic return of Superman with James Gunn's "Superman: Legacy," let's remind ourselves that even our most morally straight hero falters.

The Painter is another tale of a former covert operative forced to pick up his weapons and get back in the game. Can director Kimani Ray Smith and writer Brian Buccellato find a way to give the year a fresh start with the usual assortment of high-stakes espionage mixed with personal and professional betrayals?
Peter was one of the CIA’s top agents until he was sent to kill the same person his wife Elena’s team was sent to bring back alive. She lost the child she was carrying, and their marriage fell apart soon after.

Awkwardly arriving the very same day as “The Bricklayer,” with Aaron Eckhart as an ex-CIA agent with the titular dayjob, “The Painter” has Charlie Weber as ex-cia agent who has taken up … well, you can guess. This more humbly scaled actioner likewise finds its uber-tough erstwhile operative reluctantly forced back into activity amid a conspiratorial hail of bullets. From that shared starting point, Brian Buccellato’s script finds its own path. But neither he nor director Kimani Ray Smith locate much credibility or suspense in an uninspired tale that also features Jon Voight, as well as Madison Bailey from the Netflix series “The Outer Banks.” Lacking in most departments beyond decent pacing and adequate technical polish, this forgettable thriller launches in limited U.S. theaters Jan. 5, and on digital platforms Jan. 9.

Reading Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong, the new intercompany crossover between DC Comics and Legendary Films, is like watching a 12-year-old win a $25,000 shopping spree: toys joyfully piled atop each other while you wonder how they’re all going to fit in his room. Talking with Jlgk writer Brian Buccellato, one gets the sense that writing it is the same way. “The struggle is we have 30 pages per issue to fit the story in, and the big, giant monsters, we want to give them space,” he tells Den of Geek magazine. “How do I navigate the big moments and the opportunities for Christian [Duce, artist on Jlgk] to [draw] awesome pinup action shots with getting everybody in there and making sure they all get their due?”
The answer to Buccellato’s question is, apparently, to shout Yolo and keep escalating. The book reads like a gleeful “yes, and” exercise. Toyman...

The DC cinematic universe may not be doing that well, but DC comics is certainly raging with new ideas and stories and has released a new trailer for their upcoming comic book crossover ‘Godzilla Vs Kong Vs Justice League’ as the iconic DC superheroes battle the two monster icons, in a dark and destructive battle.
The comic will be a seven issue limited series where the DC heroes Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Flash, Aquaman will face off against the monster duo as DC now connects itself to the ‘Monster Verse’.
The trailer features some really cool artwork with Superman hearing the monsters approaching as Lois Lane screams. This is followed by Wonder Woman, Flash and Green Lantern attacking the monsters while shocked at their strength as Superman heads off to battle the monsters.
But these monsters will prove too much for even the Kryptonian to handle, so Aquaman...

"The Flash" movie has had as many problems during production as the actual Flash has villains, with almost a decade since the project was first announced plagued by changes in the crew, star controversies, and an arrest or two. But now, the film is finally — presumably — coming out this year.
The first trailer for the first live-action Flash movie is finally here, and it honestly looks kind of great. We got our first look at Supergirl, Michael Keaton returning as Batman (and now with several more suits than before!), Batfleck with a grey and blue suit, and even the return of national treasure Michael Shannon as General Zod. Even though the trailer makes the film look too small for the story it is based on, it looks fun.
But after all the teasing about the story, the Easter eggs, and the "I'm Batman" lines, the best part of the trailer...

While filming Dune in late 2019, Oscar Isaac mentioned a passion project to one of the film’s key producers — Mary Parent, vice chairman of worldwide production at Legendary Entertainment.
It was not a sci-fi blockbuster — a genre Isaac has come to dominate in franchises like Star Wars and Dune — nor was it a prestige series in the vein of HBO’s Scenes From a Marriage, which he executive produced and starred in alongside Jessica Chastain.
It was a comic book. About a cop who walks around with a bullet hole in his head.
The result of that conversation is now upon us. With the publication of Head Wounds: Sparrow, from Isaac’s Mad Gene Media and Legendary Comics — the publishing arm of the Burbank-based production company behind films like Dune and Godzilla vs. Kong — Isaac, 43, further diversifies his professional résumé.

After making his Marvel debut with Disney+’s “Moon Knight,” Oscar Isaac produced a graphic novel of his own.
Partnering with Legendary Entertainment, Isaac led a Kickstarter campaign for “Head Wounds: Sparrow,” a noirish tale about a Louisiana detective named Leo who is torn between the battle between good and evil…quite literally.
Isaac, alongside longtime friends and fellow members of on-and-off ska band The Worms John Alvey (co-story writer) and Bob Johnson (creator and co-story writer), detailed the cinematic inspiration behind the graphic novel, featuring artwork by Christian Ward and story by Brian Buccellato.
“I grew up really loving movies in the ’70s, where the antihero took center stage,” Isaac explained during a Q&a at Barnes & Noble Union Square. “‘Serpico,’ ‘Taxi Driver,’ ‘Dog Day Afternoon,’ these are some of my favorite films. I think you’re allowed to see more of the gray areas of life. It...

I seem to be reviewing a whole lot of 80 Page Giants of late, most of which have been appearing from DC. That’s not a complaint mind you. I’m still an avid collector of the DC Dollar Comics issues from the late 1970′s and early 1980′s, so something about DC and oversized comics just feels right. Besides, there is a very good reason for this one. One of DC’s most famous characters, or franchises if you are a corporate lawyer, is celebrated his 750th issue. Not all in one continuous run of course, but in the many volumes and stop starts of recent times, Flash has crossed the exclusive line of characters with a 750 issue run. That’s something to celebrate. So how do you celebrate? You pull in writers and artists old and new. Your Geoff Johns,...

Since January has given us an extra week, we decided to do a special Kickstarter episode! Sometimes there are amazing comic book creators who’s fantastic ideas could use a bit of help from fans in order to get us a finished book. We are featuring two great writers who are starting Kickstarter campaigns to promote their titles. From the LRMOnline family we have Kat Kalamia and Omar Morales writer for “Cruzader: Agent of the Vatican” and Guinness World Record holder for the largest comic book published. Kat is promoting her title “Life Father, Like Daughter” and Omar talks about the “Not Forgotten” anthology he is working on. We then venture into our Top 5 independent comics and finish off with the books for the week!

Last year, writers Brian Buccellato and Jennifer Young, along with artist Matías Bergara, teamed up to create the comic book series Cannibal. The series is set in a small southern Florida town plagued by a cannibal epidemic, and its Volume 1 trade paperback is scheduled to come out this March.
Press Release: New York Times bestselling writer Brian Buccellato (Sons Of The Devil, The Flash, Injustice), co-writer Jennifer Young, and artist Matías Bergara (Sons of Anarchy) will release the first trade paperback collection of their ongoing Southern Gothic series Cannibal this March from Image Comics.
A Category 5 hurricane sweeps through the Southeast, uprooting ancient mosquitoes carrying a virus that causes the infected to crave human flesh. One year later, with no cure in sight, the region has become split over what to do with the victims. For the Hansen family, the answer is simple: kill them. However, all of that changes...

When it comes to Image and Aftershock titles (for me at least), I tend to pick up the titles written by familiar writers that I have enjoyed in the past. Brian Buccellato is one of those writers for me. With as many zombie movies, shows and stories out in the world Jennifer and Brian gives us a new twist on the genre, because all though they crave flesh and blood, they are still “normal” people. The book takes place in the southeast region of the U.S. where in 1994 a category five hurricane devastated the area. It also awoke ancient disease-carrying mosquitos that had been hibernating underground, unleashing a very old strain of yellow fever. The Global Medicine Management (Gmm) rushed out a medicine called “Y-pak” to fight the disease. Like most untested vaccines it had a terrible side effect. It caused whoever took it to crave human flesh. The...

Justice League #45
Writer: Geoff Johns
Artist: Francis Manapul
Colorist: Brian Buccellato
Letterer: Rob Leigh
Publisher: DC Comics
The Darkseid War rages on and is proving to be the biggest and largest story DC has told yet in the New 52 and DCYou era through the Justice League title. Readers are treated to an artistic switch with Francis Manapul and Brian Buccellato, who were the team that ushered in a new era for The Flash at the New 52’s inception to give us this aftermath of the insanity that went down in issue #44.
Darkseid is dead. This exclamation made by the Trinity rings across space itself, and the ramifications are immediately felt on several levels. In the immediate area, we catch up with Jessica Cruz, Steve, Diana, Mister Miracle, Cyborg, and Shazam all contemplating the next step and asking, “What happens next, and how can a God die?”

Sons of the Devil #4
Written by Brian Buccellato
Art by Toni Infante
Published by Image Comics, Inc.
One of the prominent themes in Sons of the Devil is family. From the interaction between Travis Crowe and his foster brother, Klay, in issue #1 to the genes shared by Travis and cult leader David throughout the series, to the new family ties revealed by Jenny last issue, family is an important concept in this series. Issue #4 sets the stage for arguably the most dysfunctional and unusual family reunion in modern fiction, barring maybe the Firefly family from Rob Zombie’s House of 1,000 Corpses and The Devil’s Rejects.
Following his normal formula for this series, Buccellato begins with a flashback, this time to 1989. Vanessa and Tilly, two young women who want to escape from the cult, The Sacred Co-Op, worry that their leader, David, may suspect the plans they’ve recently put into motion.

Sons of the Devil #3
Written by Brian Buccellato
Art by Toni Infante
Published by Image Comics, Inc.
Brian Buccellato and Toni Infante have done it again. Their combination of story and art combine to tell the tale of a modern cult and the lives it affects has produced yet another Eisner-worthy chapter to the series. Issue #3 sees Buccellato add some new characters to the plot along with another visit for the mystery man from his devilish, mirror-inhabiting alter ego. Infante’s art is dead on, as usual, perfectly capturing the psychological edge to Buccellato’s script.
Following Buccellato’s formula for each issue of Sons of the Devil so far, we begin with a flashback to Northern California, circa 1989. This time one of the cultists, a woman who contacted her policeman father in a previous issue, meets with her father to arrange an escape from the commune for herself, one of her friends,...

Sons of the Devil #2
Written by Brian Buccellato
Art by Toni Infante
Published by Image Comics, Inc.
Brian Buccellato’s tale about Branch Dravidian-style cults and the lives they affect continues in Sons of the Devil #2. The intrigue surrounding nice guy with anger issues Travis Crowe gets even more intense as the mysterious man who has been stalking him begins to close in. The man’s identity is hinted at and Travis goes ballistic on the man who killed his foster brother in the last issue.
Issue #2 begins with a flashback to Northern California, circa1989. A man wearing a mask fashioned from a bull’s skull is talking to his reflection in a mirror. He says, “Nine times ten, the blood of submission … and nine more the blood of my whores. The blood of my children. Ninety-nine and will it be mine.” When he takes off the mask, we see...

Sons of the Devil #1
Written by Brian Buccellato
Art by Toni Infante
Published by Image Comics, Inc.
In an afterword on the last few pages of Sons of the Devil, writer Brian Buccellato says,
“I’ve never been in a cult, but for as long as I can remember, I’ve been fascinated by them … What really intrigued me about these cults is how they were driven by dynamic, charismatic leaders – users who imposed their will upon others … I also wanted to explore the lives they affected. And when I stumbled across a photo of babies in Jonestown, I knew I found my way into this world. As a father myself, I wondered what happened to them. Did they survive? And if so, did they ever learn where they came from?”
That is what issue one, titled “Revelations,” is all about, setting up this story of cults and the children rescued from them.

DC Comics gives fans another one-shot prequel to their current Batman event through Detective Comics: Endgame. There’s no denying the cover of the issue featuring a figure wearing an Anarky mask with a smile painted on it is eye-catching. However, many will be disappointed as to what they’ll get on the inside of a book holding the subtitle “Anarky is No Joke!”
In Detective Comics: Endgame #1, the city is overrun by Jokerized victims, but a small band of teenagers unites to take a stand. Their secret knowledge of Gotham City’s streets helps them survive, but will Batman take help from this young group of upstarts? And what could it mean for the future of the young heroes in Gotham City?
Writer Brian Buccellato seems less than enthusiastic about giving readers anything too important or memorable when it comes to what happens before Endgame. I’m not sure...
