Young Sheldon’s antepenultimate episode featured a surplus of callbacks and Big Bang Theory Easter eggs — from Sheldon beginning his ritual of knocking three times before he enters a room, to Missy alluding to Sheldon finding a “smart, weird girlfriend” out in California, to which Sheldon scoffed, “I have a girlfriend and her name is Science.”
There was also a plethora of returning characters, including King Kong Comics patron Nate (played by theme song composer/performer Steve Burns), Medford High faculty members Mr. Givens (Brian Stepanek) and Ms. Hitchens (Sarah Baker) and — last but not least — Sheldon’s childhood bestie...

If you don’t have kids, you may not have heard of “Gabby’s Dollhouse.” If you have a preschooler, it has likely become a welcome upgrade from the “Cocomelon” of your child’s nursery school days.
No intended shade at “Cocomelon,” the other monster hit for Netflix in the kids space. “Cocomelon” is simplistic animation set to familiar nursery rhymes — it’s a low lift both in terms of production and consumption. “Gabby’s,” a combination of (a little) live-action and (a lot of) animation, is a child’s entry point into storytelling and imaginative play. It was for my kids — and millions of others.
For 2023, the top 5 children’s series on streaming ranked like this, per Nielsen:
“Bluey” (43.9 billion minutes streamed on Disney+) “Cocomelon” (36.3 billion minutes streamed on Netflix) “SpongeBob Squarepants” (19.8 billion minutes streamed on Paramount+) “Mickey Mouse Clubhouse” (13.9 billion minutes streamed on Disney+) “Gabby’s Dollhouse” (12.8 billion minutes...

Amid new scrutiny on child performers in the wake of the Quiet on Set docuseries, former Disney actress Christy Carlson Romano is opening up about the moments when she and her mother had to speak up on the set of Disney show Even Stevens, which Romano starred in as a teen.
In a conversation on Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown podcast, which also included Bialik’s fellow Blossom alum Jenna von Oÿ, Bialik asked the former child stars about times in which they had to assert themselves during production and what “worked well” in managing to be heard.
Romano noted that there were a couple of times when she was able to have a say in the production choices. One was when writers would come to her to draw from her own experiences while writing for her character, Ren. “They would be like, ‘Hey, you just turned 16. Are boys interesting to you?...

SAG-AFTRA is responding to calls for more safety protocols for working child actors following Investigation Discovery’s documentary Quiet on Set.
The five-part series delved into the toxic work environments that many child actors faced working on some of the most popular kids’ television shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s, including allegations of abuse, sexism and racism.
Jenny Kilgen, a former Amanda Show writer who is featured in the documentary, penned an open letter to SAG-AFTRA urging it to “initiate and institute robust child safety protocols” as well as support federal legislation on the matter.

Steve Burns, who became an icon of children’s television as the host of Nickelodeon’s “Blue’s Clues” from 1996 to 2002, recently spoke to “Today” and said he watched the viral documentary series “Quiet on Set” in “horror and heartbreak.” The ID Discovery series explores the alleged harassment and abuse that took place at Nickelodeon before and after the turn of the century, which is the same time Burns was the face of “Blue’s Clues.”
“I don’t have any particular insight into any of that,” Burns said about the allegations made in the documentary series. “I’m coming to it much the same as anyone else, with horror and heartbreak. It’s just terrible to watch it unfold. I don’t know what else to say, other than that it’s heartbreaking.”
An abundance of the allegations made in “Quiet on Set” revolve around Nickelodeon mega-producer Dan Schneinder and acting coach Brian Peck.

And with its final installment, we have our answer about who killed Little Man.
The intricate story of Covey comes to its conclusion on Black Cake Season 1 Episode 8. But the finale does a decent job of leaving the series open-ended so that this presumed mini-series could expand into another season.
And with the critical acclaim, it wouldn't be surprising if Black Cake got a renewal.
There's undoubtedly more to this bold series to explore. While there's indeed some form of closure on Coventina/ Eleanor Bennett's story, there are so many threads and different directions this series can go in if it so chooses.
Covey's children have their entire lives ahead of them, and at least two of them have the makings for compelling stories to explore.
And, of course, the series could easily maintain its time-jumping, non-linear storytelling if it opts to pursue different angles and perspectives from other important characters in Covey's life.

While looking for a project to follow the success of his films The French Connection and The Exorcist, director William Friedkin came across a book he found to be fascinating: Cruising by Gerald Walker, about “a series of murders in the gay bars of New York, and a detective assigned to go undercover to find the killer”. But Friedkin had already made a movie that centered on gay characters, The Boys in the Band, so he let the Cruising adaptation go by. For a while, Steven Spielberg was attached to direct the film, but wasn’t able to get it into production. In his memoir The Friedkin Connection, Friedkin revealed that it wasn’t until someone he worked with on The Exorcist turned out to be a real-life serial killer that he thought of the way to approach Cruising.

Within the filmography of the late William Friedkin, one of the most controversial works he delivered was Cruising. Set during a hot summer in New York City, the story sees a serial killer murdering and dismembering several gay men within the world of S&m and leather bars. Assigned to this case is Steve Burns (Al Pacino), an officer whose physical similarities to the victims makes him perfect to go undercover, with the prospect of rapidly advancing his career by doing so.
Poorly received upon release, this film was protested by New York’s gay community under the belief that it stigmatised them. This reviewer admittedly may not be the best judge as an outsider, although I...

The recently departed William Friedkin has a fascinating relationship with the gay community, not only as the infamous director of "Cruising," but also as the director of the film adaption of "The Boys in the Band" a decade prior, a monumental work of mainstream American queer cinema (and the first Hollywood-made film to use the word "c***" on screen). It's nothing short of a miracle that a director of Friedkin's caliber is responsible for two of the most impactful queer films in history, both continually debated. But "Cruising" is on another level. Depending on who you ask, the film is either a remarkable feat or irredeemable trash, and the controversy started before Friedkin ever called "action."

In the second hour (or “episode”) of Peacock’s I Love You, You Hate Me, a former neo-Nazi turned anti-hate activist goes for a rather big thematic swing, connecting her personal journey with the slings and arrows directed at one particularly kid-friendly purple dinosaur.

Two generations of children — and their parents — are familiar with the colossal purple dinosaur that frolicked across their television screens each week. The PBS series “Barney & Friends” amassed 14 seasons between 1992 and 2010 in the course of its lengthy run before coming to a flaming halt.
The reasons for the show’s initial success and accursed demise are outlined in a two-part docuseries from director Tommy Avallone, titled “I Love You, You Hate Me,” which is available for streaming on Peacock on Oct. 12.
With parallels to Sundance award-winner “Feels Good Man,” the 2020 indie documentary about Pepe the Frog that explores how a meme can be transformed from a comedic icon into a hate symbol, “I Love You, You Hate Me” delves into the lesser-known evils of the Barney bashing movement, when teenagers and adults alike began to bastardize the once-beloved character with acts of violence both physically and online.

"This year, we'll be full swing," ReedPop Marketing Director Fallon Prinzivalli tells Popsugar about what fans can expect from this year's full-scale convention, which they're expecting 200,000 fans of all different ages and backgrounds to attend.
