Jesse Stone is back. After an almost three-and-a-half-year hiatus, the rough and tough lawman returns to Hallmark Channel on Sunday, Oct. 18 (and Hallmark Movies & Mysteries on Oct. 25), and for cowriter and series star Tom Selleck, “It’s been way too long!” In Jesse Stone: Lost in Paradise, the ninth film in the franchise based on the books by the late author Robert B. Tom Selleck would be just fine putting on Thomas Magnum's Hawaiian shirt again.
"If anyone wanted to do a movie and they think I'd still fit for him, I think that'd be great," the former Magnum, P.I. star says in the current issue of People.
But that doesn't mean Selleck – whose ninth Jesse Stone film Lost in Paradise premieres Sunday on Hallmark Channel – has been looking for Magnum-esque roles since the show went off the air in 1988.

A personal tragedy can affect someone in unforeseen ways.
Danny (Donnie Wahlberg) got new proof in "Knockout Game," Friday's (March 14) episode of CBS' "Blue Bloods" written by co-executive producer Brian Burns and directed by Robert Harmon, who also worked with series star Tom Selleck on most of the "Jesse Stone" TV movies.
The story opened with expectant parents Mike and Stephanie Rose (guest stars Josh Segarra and Rose Hemingway) taking an evening stroll and discussing possible names for their child. Suddenly, a gang of youths came rushing up behind them and one punched Stephanie in the face, felling her. A panicked Mike cradled her and screamed for help.
Frank (Selleck) already had concerns about the so-called "knockout game" being practiced randomly throughout the city's boroughs. As he struggled to determine factors linking the attacks, he ordered the NYPD to reach out to informants for any potentially useful information.

Ruh-roh! Tom Selleck doesn't think Uggie, the Jack Russell terrier who starred alongside Jean Dujardin in The Artist, is Tinseltown's top dog. Uggie was named Best Dog in a Theatrical Film at this year's Golden Collar Awards, but who is the clever canine Selleck thinks is the best in the biz? His Jesse Stone golden retriever costar, Joe. "I think Joe is the finest dog actor in the history of show business," the actor gushed to HuffPost TV. "[Uggie] does cute stuff. Joe doesn't do cutesy stuff," Selleck explained. "He, in the audience's mind, is another person. He's Jesse's roommate, and he thinks like a human. That's hard to...

Uggie the dog -- the scene-stealing Jack Russell terrier who played sidekick to Jean Dujardin in the Oscar-nominated film "The Artist" -- may be one of the most adored pooches of all time, but not according to "Blue Bloods" actor Tom Selleck.
When he's not playing New York Police Commissioner Frank Reagan on the CBS cop drama, Selleck is better known as Jesse Stone, the troubled detective in TV movie series "Jesse Stone," which is now in its eighth installment. And since 2005, Selleck has worked alongside a golden retriever named Joe, who plays Jesse's faithful canine companion Reggie.
"I think Joe is the finest dog actor in the history of show business," Selleck told HuffPost TV while on the "Blue Bloods" set in February. "[Uggie] does cute stuff. Joe doesn't do cutesy stuff. Ugh, save the drama for your teen mama.
So we all know that Teen Mom star Amber Portwood is dunzo with her babydaddy Gary Shirley, and it looks as though things are going south with her new boyfriend Jesse Stone after dating for an entire month. That's like... basically a lifetime, you guys.
The couple had a night out and what was supposed to be a nice little evening together turned into a disaster at the two bars they visited that night.
Nothing says romance like a night out at two bars!
"She hit Jesse in the face -- at Jimbo's Pub & Club," said a source to HollyBaby.com. "That's a red neck bar from hell. Let's put it this way: if you see a beer bottle getting thrown across the bar, you better duck. Once one of them starts going, they all start going."
Classy.

Treat Williams has the police on his mind a lot these days.
The "Everwood" veteran returns to series work in Lifetime's "Against the Wall," premiering Sunday, July 31. He plays the patriarch of a Chicago family of cops, and he's also about to revisit one of his career milestones: the true, police-corruption-themed 1981 drama "Prince of the City." Williams will participate in a screening of the movie Sunday, July 24, as part of a tribute to the late director Sidney Lumet at New York's Lincoln Center.
"Against the Wall" revolves around a police detective (Australian-born Rachael Carpani) whose new job as an Internal Affairs investigator doesn't please her longtime-cop father (Williams). Her mother ("Picket Fences" Emmy winner Kathy Baker) tries to keep peace within the family, which also includes a trio of policeman sons.

The down side to just consuming all of one's entertainment off of the Internet is the fact that channel flipping when one can't sleep becomes an exercise in futility. My television gets 22 stations. Half of those are in Spanish. Local access and actual networks make up the balance. So that's how I end up watching "Jesse Stone: Innocents Lost." Jesse Stone is apparently CBS' solution to the fact that they can't run NCIS or CSI all the time, and because Chuck Norris wasn't available to be a gruff older cop who hates youth and their technowiggins.

After announcing on Monday that he won't run for U.S. president, Donald Trump returned to NBC's Celebrity Apprentice for the season finale last night. It drew a 2.9 rating in 18-49, up 16% from last week but down 15% from last spring to rank as the lowest-rated spring Apprentice finale ever. Still, Celebrity Apprentice was the second-highest-rated program of the night in 18-49, tied with the 2011 Billboard Music Awards on ABC, which returned from a five-year hiatus up 7% vs. its last telecast in 2006 and helped ABC win the night in 18-49. Topping the demo ratings leader board last night was Fox's Family Guy, whose season finale was down 6% from last week and 3% from last season's finale. The finale of American Dad (1.6) was down 11% from last week, Bob's Burgers finished its freshman season with a 2.1, down a tenth from last week, and veteran The Simpsons (2.5) was even with last week and last year's finale.

The real cartoon characters on Fox were much more interesting than the figurative ones on Celebrity Apprentice on Sunday, as Family Guy finished the last Sunday of the 2010-11 season as the most popular show among adults 18-49, according to preliminary results.
Family Guy earned a 3.0 rating/7 share in the demo — down 3 percent from last season’s finale but still tops among the broadcast competition. It also ruled among 18-34 and teens. The Simpsons finale pulled a 2.5/7. Each 18-49 ratings point equals 1.3 million viewers.

Late author Robert B. Parker's estate has announced that his signature Spenser and Jesse Stone mystery novel series will continue. Parker died at his home in Cambridge, Mass on January 18, 2010 at age 77. Michael Brandman, who has co-written and produced the CBS TV movies that feature Tom Selleck as the tortured alcoholic detective Stone, will write the first Stone novel. Titled Robert B. Parker's Killing the Blues, it will be published September 13, 2011. Brandman goes way back with Parker, and aside from the Stone telepics, he also produced three Spenser novel adaptations for A&E. Parker's earlier Spenser novels formed the basis for the Spenser For Hire series that starred Robert Urich, and his Western series was turned into the Ed Harris-Viggo Mortensen pic Appaloosa. The new Spenser novels will be written by Ace Atkins, who has written such novels as White Shadow, Infamous and Wicked City. His...

Tom Selleck admits he's "superstitious" about anything that isn't a done deal, but he knows "Blue Bloods" is in great shape to get a sophomore year.
"We are the No. 1 new show on television," the Emmy-winning home-screen veteran proudly notes to Zap2it about his CBS police-family drama. "To be that on Friday night is rather remarkable, because there are less TV sets on. Do I care where we go [on the schedule next season]? That's kind of above my pay grade, but Friday didn't scare me.
"When 'Magnum, P.I.' was going on the air, they said, 'Thursday is kind of a dead night.' Then we went on, then 'The Cosby Show' went on, and Thursday has been one of TV's biggest nights forever more. They moved 'Blue Bloods' temporarily to Wednesdays to set up a new show ('Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior'), and that obviously was...

TV will be getting a little — and maybe a lot — more of America’s Favorite Television Personality, now that USA Network has greenlit an original movie starring Mark Harmon and based on a series of best-selling crime novels.
The NCIS star will play Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Lucas Davenport in Certain Prey, a two-hour USA original based on one in a series of page-turners by John Sandford.
In this particular story, Davenport is on the trail of a hitwoman while he himself is in the crosshairs of a killer. Production will start in May.

USA Network has given the green light to Prey, a two-hour movie starring Mark Harmon, as the cable network continues to expand its original programming portfolio beyond hourlong scripted series. The film is based on the best-selling Prey series of novels by John Sandford. Harmon will play the central character in the books, Minneapolis Deputy Police Chief Lucas Davenport. The movie is based on the 10th of the 20 novels in the series, Certain Prey, in which Davenport goes against a lethal hit woman and a ferociously cunning killer determined to hunt him down. Chris Gerolmo (Citizen X) penned the script for the movie, which is slated to begin production in May. Jaffe-Braunstein Films is producing, with Michael Jaffe, Howard Braunstein and Harmon executive producing. "Mark Harmon could read the phone book and we'd probably want to put it on the air!" USA's president original programming Jeff Wachtel quipped. While Prey...

James Marsters plays a pretty convincing bad guy in the pilot of CBS' new "Hawaii Five-0." So convincing, in fact, that what happens to him in the show probably isn't the last word on the character.
(Spoilers for the pilot and Marsters' character below, so proceed at your own risk.)
Zap2it asked "Five-0" executive producers Alex Kurtzman and Peter Lenkov if the new show would have a character similar to Wo Fat (Khigh Dhiegh), the long-time nemesis of Steve McGarrett (Jack Lord) on the original series.
"One of the first things we talked about is how do we get Wo Fat into the show," Lenkov says. "If you think about Victor Hess" -- the villain played by Marsters ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer," "Caprica") in the series premiere -- "having gone off that barge and not surfacing [in the climax of the episode] -- I think you can truly believe Victor Hess can be a Wo Fat character in our franchise.

New York -- CBS' fall primetime programming schedule continued to take shape Monday with pickups of several shows, mainly dramas, with big names attached.
As upfront week kicked off, the network picked up the comedy "$#*! My Dad Says," starring William Shatner, and four dramas: a "Criminal Minds" spinoff starring Forest Whitaker, the remake of the tropical cop drama "Hawaii Five-0," the family cop series "Blue Bloods" starring Tom Selleck and the legal drama "Defenders" starring Jim Belushi.
The network last week ordered the new Chuck Lorre comedy "Mike & Molly" for fall.
CBS is set to announce its full schedule Wednesday.
"Dad" is based on material by Twitter phenomenon Justin Halpern. The well-received pilot starred Ryan Devlin ("Cougar Town") as the young lead, based on Halpern, opposite Shatner as the opinionated father and central character. Sitcom veteran James Burrows directed the pilot.
The multigenerational "Blue Bloods" was known as "Reagan's Law.

Fast National ratings for Sunday, May 9, 2010
Although CBS easily won Sunday night's ratings competition, it wasn't the finale of "The Amazing Race" that got the biggest numbers, but the return to the popular Tom Selleck-starring "Jesse Stone" franchise. The network was left in the dust, however, when it came to the 18-49 demo.

ABC led the way in the adult demo race with a 2.6, followed by Fox, 2.3, NBC, 2.1, and then CBS, 1.8.

May is generally the month when the broadcast networks put their latest season to rest. While there are plenty of finales, as we've covered in its own post, that doesn't mean there aren't premieres and specials.
This month, 'Jesse Stone' is back, 'Friday Night Lights' returns to NBC, BBC America brings back new seasons of 'Ashes to Ashes' and 'Gavin & Stacey,' while the long-awaited return of 'The Boondocks' comes to Cartoon Network's Adult Swim. Fox is bringing back 'Past Life,' launching a new season of ''So You Think You Can Dance,' and premiering their quirky new police dramedy, 'The Good Guys.'
Why get depressed about what you'll be missing, when there's plenty to get excited about, Don't miss a thing with our May guide.

When I first saw the headline that Tom Selleck was going to star in a new drama for CBS, my mind instantly went to 'Jesse Stone,' the fine series of TV movies based on the books by Robert B. Parker. I think it would make for a great TV series, but alas, this is a completely different show.
Selleck is in talks to play the lead in a new drama for the network that would center on a family of cops in New York. Selleck would play the police chief and other members of his family would include Donnie Wahlberg (playing his son) and Len Cariou (playing his father). The show used to be called 'Reagan's Law' but now they're changing the name.
I'd rather see some Jesse Stone movies (or how about a 'Magnum, P.I.' reunion?), but if it keeps Selleck at CBS that means...

Tom Selleck might be returning to television.
The former "Magnum P.I." and "Jesse Stone" star is close to a deal to star in CBS' drama pilot about a family of New York police officers, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Formerly known as "Reagan's Law," the untitled pilot follows New York chief of police Michael (Selleck) who resides in Brooklyn with the ex-chief (Len Cariou), who happens to be his dad, Patrick. Patrick had divided loyalties between his former fellow cops and the demands of the mayor's office.
Michael's son, the third generation, will be represented by Donnie Wahlberg, who plays police detective Brian.
Selleck hasn't been resting on his "P.I." cred. In the past few years, he's been starring in the "Jesse Stone" movie franchise and played A.J. Cooper on "Las Vegas."

After lengthy negotiations, Tom Selleck is nearing a deal to play the lead in CBS' untitled Burgess/Green drama pilot.
The project (formerly "Reagan's Law") is a multigenerational drama revolving around a family of New York cops.
Selleck will play Michael, the handsome, confident and highly commended chief of police for the NYPD who lives in Brooklyn with his father, Patrick (Len Cariou), the ex-chief who struggles to find a balance between the political demands of the mayor's office and doing right by his fellow cops.
Michael's son Brian (Donnie Wahlberg) is also a detective.
For "Magnum P.I." star Selleck, who has remained a fixture on CBS in the past five years as the star of the "Jesse Stone" original movie franchise, this would mark the first regular series role since he took over as the lead on NBC's "Las Vegas" on the show's final season.

Just last week I posted one of my favorite episodes of the 80s ABC series Spenser: For Hire, and now comes word that the author of the novels, Robert B. Parker, has died at the age of 77.
No details yet, but Parker died at his desk in his Cambridge, Ma home. When you're a writer that's probably the way to go.
If you only know Spenser from the TV series that starred Robert Urich (which was great), you should pick up the novels, too. He's been writing them since the 70s and they're quite good, very engaging first person mystery stories set in Boston. He started a new series of book based around the Jesse Stone character (who happens to live my neck of the woods), and while I've never read those novels I have seen the TV movies featuring Tom Selleck as Stone and they are very good. Robert B. Parker, a best-selling mystery novelist and the creator of the "Spenser" series of novels, has died.
Parker, 77, died Monday (Jan. 18). The cause of death isn't known yet; according to several reports, he was just "sitting at his desk" when he passed away.
Parker is probably best known for the Spenser series, which spans more than 30 books and stars a tough, worldly Boston private eye. The novels were the basis for the 1980s ABC series "Spenser: For Hire," which starred Robert Urich, and several TV movies starring Joe Mantegna.
Parker also penned the Jesse Stone novels about about a burned-out, alcoholic Lapd detective who moves to Massachusetts and becomes the chief of police in a small town. The books have been adapted for several TV movies on CBS, with Tom Selleck playing the title character. His western novel "Appaloosa" was turned into a 2008 feature film starring Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen.

The books have been adapted for several TV movies on CBS, with Tom Selleck playing the title character. His western novel "Appaloosa" was turned into a 2008 feature film starring Ed Harris and Viggo Mortensen.
