Exclusive: Buffalo 8 has acquired worldwide rights out of Cannes to The President and the Dragon, a Jimmy Carter documentary from Sudanese writer, director and producer Waleed Eltayeb and Irish director-cinematographer Ian D. Murphy.
The film watches as the former U.S. President, a motley crew of public health veterans, ex-child soldiers, and local volunteers traverse political minefields, treacherous terrain, and bloody civil war to chase after an ancient parasite, uniting with the goal of eradicating Guinea worm disease. Produced by Touchline’s Shaun McGuckian and Eltayeb, and co-produced by Brave Road’s Andrew Bishop (ESPN’s 26.2 To Life) and Tim Byron Owen (The Matchstick Man), the film is a testament and dedication to all the Guinea worm warriors and those working on the frontlines to end the suffering caused by the horrific, water-borne disease.

At a time when syndicated science fiction was just Star Trek series, it took some guts on Warner Bros’ part to try something darker and more experimental with J. Michael Straczynski’s Babylon 5, designed to tell a sprawling epic that was more political than it was space opera. The show arrived thirty years ago and was successful enough to spawn spin-off five telefilms and a short-lived spinoff, spanning 1993-2007.
The core of it, the 110 episodes from the original five-season series, have been remastered and collected on a nice Blu-ray box set from Warner Home Entertainment. Also included is the original pilot film.
Set in the 23rd century, the Earth Alliance has found its place among star-faring races, notably the Minbari and the Centauri. Some of these races are fine with humans; others wish them gone. Then there are the Vorlons, and no one knows what they want.

Former First Lady Rosalynn Carter has entered hospice care, according to her grandson.
“She and President Carter are spending time with each other and their family,” Jason Carter said in a statement. “The Carter family continues to ask for privacy and remains grateful for the outpouring of love and support.”
The Carter Center announced in May that the former first lady has dementia. Rosalynn Carter, 96, has been a longtime mental health advocate, including during her tenure in the White House from 1977 to 1981. She is the founder of the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregivers.
Former President Jimmy Carter, 99, entered hospice care at home in February.
The Carters made a surprise public appearance in September, when they were driven in an SUV during the Plains Peanut Festival.
The Carters celebrated their 77th wedding anniversary in July. They are the longest-married presidential couple.

It may have taken a long time to get here, but Babylon 5 is finally making the leap to Blu-ray. Warner Bros. Discovery Home Entertainment announced today that all five seasons of the iconic sci-fi series will be released on Blu-ray on December 5th.
Babylon 5 has previously only been available on DVD and the image quality wasn’t always the best, so fans have been waiting for this moment for quite some time. You can check out the official box art for Babylon 5: The Complete Series below, which strangely doesn’t feature the titular space station.
All five seasons of Babylon 5 were scanned and remastered from the original camera negative in 4K, with a colour correction and the cleaning of dirt and scratches as well. The many CGI shots of the series have been digitally upscaled to HD, and short of a complete remaster, that’s probably...

Molly Tuttle pays tribute to a free-spirited woman in the new song “She’ll Change.” It’s the singer-guitarist’s first release from an upcoming 2022 album, her first with record label Nonesuch.
Tuttle penned the song with Old Crow Medicine Show frontman Ketch Secor, and the end result is a sprightly tune on which the picking dives off in ways as surprising and unpredictable as the woman being described. “She don’t worry about tomorrow/She’s got plenty on her mind,” Tuttle begins, dashing off nifty acoustic-guitar runs between lines.

A new version of the Emmy-winning space opera television series Babylon 5 is in the works. The CW has put in development Babylon 5, described as a “from-the-ground-up reboot” of the critically acclaimed 1990s series, from original series creator J. Michael Straczynski and Warner Bros. Television.
Written by Straczynski, the reboot revolves around John Sheridan (played by Bruce Boxleitner in the original series), an Earthforce officer with a mysterious background, who is assigned to Babylon 5, a five-mile-long space station in neutral space, a port of call for travelers, smugglers, corporate explorers and alien diplomats at a time of uneasy peace and the constant threat of war. His arrival triggers a destiny beyond anything he could have imagined, as an exploratory Earth company accidentally triggers a conflict with a civilization a million years ahead of us, putting Sheridan and the rest of the B5 crew in the line of fire as the last,...

Thirty years since it ended, we revisit much-loved 80s historical fantasy series Robin Of Sherwood...
The Robin Hood legend has been retold in countless ways, but one of the most memorable of modern times is Richard Carpenter’s hugely influential 1980s imagining, telling the story of Sherwood’s band of outlaws with a combination of realism and luminous fantasy with its roots in British folklore.
Made by Htv in association with production company Goldcrest Films (which was also behind Chariots Of Fire and Gandhi), its 26 episodes ran on ITV from 1984 to 1986, garnering a positive critical reception and inspiring a fan following that’s still enthusiastically active today.
Much of the success of the show was down to the spot-on casting and the chemistry between the performers. Michael Praed’s charismatic-yet-otherworldly presence as Robin was the perfect match for the show’s aesthetic, and the more down-to-earth Little John,...

Mbc’s pan-Arab show Laish La (Why Not?) has turned to Dubai-based, crowd-funding site Aflamnah to finance a project to rebuild a women’s radio station in the Gaza Strip.
The popular show, fronted by four Saudi social activists with big YouTube followings, aims to fulfil wishes sent in by viewers.
For their latest project, they are trying to raise $20,000 to help rebuild the Nisaa radio station, the first community radio station in the Gaza Strip for women, which was destroyed during the Israeli bombardment of the Palestinian territory over the summer.
“It’s an interesting concept for us, combining a radio station, TV show and crowd-funding,” said Vida Rizq, who runs Aflamnah alongside co-founder Lotfi Bencheikh. “These guys have a huge following on YouTube and the campaign has generated some 100,000 hits since it started two weeks ago.”

Beards are awesome, aren’t they? The right kind of beard can make any man into… well, a slightly hairier man, but theoretically a much more awesome man. Beards seem pretty intrinsically linked with sci-fi and fantasy, too: there are some kinds of facial hair that just scream “this is the future!” while “beardy” has been used as an adjective to suggest excessive nerdiness.
We, of course, would never use “beard” in a pejorative sense, ever. Because, as previously mentioned, beards are awesome. Here are the ten best beards in all of sci-fi and fantasy:
10. Rubeus Hagrid (Robbie Coltrane)
The Harry Potter franchise
According to an article in Scotland on Sunday, part of the character concept for Hagrid is that he’s a “mountain of leather and hair.

If ever a musical group could be given credit for writing the soundtrack for nightmares, Midnight Syndicate would have to take the honor. With 13 albums already under their collective belt, the Chardon, Ohio based duo of Edward Douglas and Gavin Goszka proudly announce the August 2nd release date of #14, Carnival Arcane
With this album based on a turn of the century circus (does anything say creepy more effectively than circus freaks and scary old-time carnys?) fans of the group can expect more of chilling, shadowy sounds they have grown to love from Midnight Syndicate.

Gothic horror soundtrack musicians Midnight Syndicate will be releasing their fourteenth studio album, entitled Carnival Arcane, on August 2nd. "The theme of the new disc surrounds the Lancaster-Rigby Carnival, a shadowy, turn-of-the-century traveling circus with more than a few skeletons in its closet," said band member Edward Douglas. I have a long history with Scifi conventions. I attended the second or third Star Trek Convention ever held in the early 70s when I was barely a teenager. The Hubs has been going to Philcon forever, it seems. However, it wasn’t until moving to Los Angeles that we really started attending major conventions with any frequency. That wasn’t by any design on our part. I had begun the insane writing experiment, The Secret Logs of Mistress Janeway. Because of those stories and later, the webpage, we started getting invitations to speak on panels at conventions. We became even more popular on convention panels after I appeared in the documentary, Trekkies. I was in fangirl heaven for a while. If a convention paid for me to attend, I had money to buy lots of stuff from the vendors. I bought t-shirts and buttons from my favorite shows, and I wore them,...

Last night's premiere for RuPaul's Drag Race Season 3 was held at Rage in West Hollywood and brought out a lot of star power. Among the familiar faces were Adam Lambert, Vanessa Williams and The A-List: New York's Mike Ruiz (who was overheard on the red carpet describing himself as "the Queen of Logo!")
Here's hoping that RuPaul and many of Drag Race's fabulous former contestants on hand last night (Raven, Ongina, Tammie Brown, etc.) didn't hear that. Otherwise, Mike might have a fight on his hands.
Luckily for us here at AfterElton.com, we had some friends on hand for the event (thanks Lisamarie, thanks Clint!) and they got some killer shots from the red carpet. Enjoy!

First, the timeline! Blue Sky Studios' CG-animated Ice Age (2002) introduced three unlikely prehistoric pals---Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth and Diego the Friendly Sabre-toothed Tiger. Ice Age: The Meltdown (2006) continued the fantasy saga while adding Ellie, a mammoth love interest for Manny, and her two wise-cracking possum "brothers" Crash and Eddie. They're all back for this second sequel---joined this time by outrageous weasel adventurer Buck Wild (Indiana Jones by way of Captain Ahab and Bugs Bunny)---as they await the birth of Ellie & Manny's baby and search for parental wannabe Sid in a colorful, dinosaur-filled land that time forgot.
The cast can be divided into the sedate (Manny, Ellie, Diego) and the scene-stealers (Sid, Buck, the possums). Sid is a particular delight as he ends up rescuing three lost, frost-bound eggs and nurturing the hatchlings who turn out not to be mammals but dinosaurs. And not just Any species...
