Fortitude International has acquired international sales rights to L Frank Baum adaptation Young Santa.
Sean McNamara, whose credits include Soul Surfer, will direct from a screenplay adapted by David Casci and Joel T Smith.
Gudrun Giddings and Christian Arnold-Beutel produce with Fortitude International partner Daniel Wagner of BiFrost Pictures.
Production on the Santa Claus origin story is set for later this year and the producers are out to cast. Baum famously wrote children’s classic The Wonderful Wizard Of Oz.
Fortitude International, launched by Nadine de Barros and producers Wagner and Robert Ogden Barnum, is in Cannes with a slate that includes The End Of The Tour.
The David Foster Wallace biopic will star Jason Segel and Jesse Eisenberg and Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions acquired all English-speaking territories earlier this year.
de Barros is also talking up the Barbra Streisand directing project and will announce further details in due course.

Sean McNamara ("Soul Surfer") has signed on to helm "Young Santa," a live-action adaptation of 'Wizard of Oz' author L. Frank Baum's 1902 book "The Life And Adventures Of Santa Claus."
David Casci adapted the screenplay about how a little boy became Father Christmas. Joel Smith, Gudrun Giddings, David Brookwell, Daniel Wagner and Christian Arnold-Beutel are producing.
Famous stop motion animators Rankin-Bass produced a TV special based on the work back in 1985. It was the company's last stop motion effort.
A traditionally animated adaptation was released in 2000, while a new animated version went into development in 2010 but never progressed and has seemingly collapsed.

For their 5th annual event, which is set to run Sept. 8-11, the Sydney Underground Film Festival is looking a little more demented than ever. And that’s saying a lot for this scrappy, still relatively young fest, which typically offers ample twisted cinematic offerings.
The fun kicks off with the Opening Night film, the demented superhero comedy Super, written and directed by former Troma go-to screenwriter James Gunn (Tromeo & Juliet); then ends with the Closing Night wallowing in Sydney’s seedy underbelly, X, by homegrown filmmaker Jon Hewitt.
Crammed between these two excursions into violence and depravity is a lineup filled with perverse visions, scandalous public figures, sickening horror, experimental pop culture remixes and more.
For Bad Lit: The Journal of Underground Film, the highlight of the fest is Usama Alshaibi‘s Profane, a complex psychological, psychosexual, spiritual morality play about a Muslim sex worker who endures a “reverse...
