When the mysterious tycoons of Abu Dhabi shared their gargantuan wealth with the relative minnows of Manchester in August 2008, a metaphorical grenade was cast into the top-tier mix of the Premier League. With the club forever living in their cross-city rivals’ shadow, Sheikh Mansour’s injection of funds suddenly opened the door to a plethora of opportunities.
No longer was the club discussing moves to extend the contracts of Darius Vassell and Nedum Onuoha. No longer were the blue half of Manchester bracing themselves for another summer of chief executive Garry Cook desperately trying to coax famous, washed up faces to the club in a bid to mask the lunacy of the Thaksin Shinawatra regime. Suddenly, the ilk of David Villa and Franck Ribery were being linked with Eastlands, a new lease of life having been breathed into the ‘noisy neighbours’.

Like the vagrant at a bus stop that won’t leave you alone, here I am to give you my Premiership round up for week four of the Barclay’s Premier League. I feel like this should be followed by a dramatic orchestral score, alas, this is a single media experience.
Following a brief break in play for international fixtures, Liverpool looked to maintain their bright start to the season away from home to Stoke City.
With several years of careful buying, dogged support and astute management from Tony Pulis, the Potters have firmly established themselves as a solid top flight team. Having spent well on players such as Jonathan Woodgate, Wilson Palacios and Peter Crouch, they have improved a side that reached the Fa Cup final last season and already boasts the likes of Ryan Shawcross, Kenwyene Jones and Jermaine Pennant.

The club has spent big again by making Blue Moon Rising, a documentary detailing their first season under Sheikh Mansour
Manchester City's domination-complex is not, it appears, restricted to matters on the pitch. Loaded with Sheikh Mansour's billions, the club now not only wants to win trophies at home and abroad but also prove a success at the box-office. Their move into the movie world comes with the release of Blue Moon Rising, a behind-the scenes documentary that details City's first season under Abu Dhabi control and contains interviews with players, staff, fans and a certain guitarist from Oasis.
It is easy to mock the idea of a football-related film but if the exclusive trailer for Blue Moon Rising is anything to go by, this latest attempt has the potential to be rather good; more Damned United than When Saturday Comes.
That is no huge surprise given the club drafted...
